Punk D for Attorney General

I am personally disappointed with how Grosse has handled the office of Attorney General. I've said this before, said it to Grosse's face, and my opinion of his time as AG shall not change.

Indeed, I plan to do the exact opposite of what he has done. Grosse has made the statement that he cannot prosecute a case that he does not, in good faith, believe has merits. Well, it's nice of him not to believe a particular case has merits but the Constitution & Legal Code do not give him the right to make that decision and the courts have now affirmed that opinion.

I believe we do need to examine the role of the AG and how it functions. I don't disagree with Grosse, in principle, that prosecuting a case that you believe does not have merit is something that the AG would like to do. But where he & I diverge is in within our primary responsibilities - if elected my primary responsibility will be to uphold the letter of the law & not make my own personal interpretation of the law when it comes to items that may be 'nebulous'. For instance, I would have gone to the courts to make the determination they have just made re: the AG's authority to refuse a case at the first instance where I believed a particular case did not have merit.

But I don't want to talk anymore about what Grosse didn't do, I'd like to talk about what I will do if you elect me as Attorney General:

  • Get moving on present cases
This is priority number one and I plan to rank cases and acting first on those cases that most affect the region. For example, the charges pending against Eluvatar would be priority number One. Within 72 hours of taking office, I shall present said prioritization to the parties of each case and if anyone believes their case to be prioritizes inaccurately, I will hear their concerns and make adjustments wherever possible. I plan to take no longer than 2 weeks to move on all cases. What 'move' means may be different in each case. Some cases may go to trial but in ALL cases I will use the office to try to negotiate settlements between the two parties so that we can avoid a trial save in those cases where the parties cannot agree.
  • Develop an Attorney General's office
I plan to develop a staff of Deputy Attorney Generals. I believe there are a number of people who would like to serve as an AG on an ad hoc basis and I would like to develop the skill/expertise for the betterment of the region. Developing a Rolodex, if you will, of attorneys who can serve the region will enable the region to prosecute cases more timely and ensure that prosecutions are performed expertly.
  • Reform laws pertaining to the Attorney General's office
We definitely need to reform the AG laws. This will need the support and approval from the RA, but as the Attorney General, I shall seek guidance from the RA to make sure the RA either likes the current laws or would like to update them. However the RA decides, as the region's AG I shall execute their wishes to the best of my ability. My personal feelings shall be expressed during the discussion but however the RA decides to change or not change the role of the AG I will comply with the RA. I believe that in roles like the AG and court justices one should set aside one's personal feelings and serve the region. If you elect me to this post, I shall do this.

So that's my plan in a nutshell. If you have questions, please ask and I shall answer. I hope you give me the opportunity to serve in this role, I truly want to represent TNP and bring professionalism to this role. If you'll allow me to speak OOC for a moment the character of Punk Daddy is Don (me) on steroids from the standpoint that Don has a ton of opinions but usually exercises much greater tact than Punk Daddy. Punk Daddy is not as tactful on purpose but in the role of AG, I plan to curtail PD and let out more Don than I have in the 8+ years of PD. For reference, I'd like to cite last year's debate contest in TEP where I (Don) won against a number of NS'ers including AMOM. 2011 Debate Contest Winners In real life I debate and argue with many prominent members of my state, certainly holding my own. I'd like to have the opportunity to be a lot less of the bombastic, snarky, and in some cases hubris-riddled PD and bring a little more Don to PD. End OOC rambling.

Thanks for reading through this and I would love your support. :)

Thanks for the support HC.

Does anyone have any questions? While some of the old guard know me well, I don't believe a lot of you new folks know me much at all. I'd like to answer any questions you may have even if you do not intend to vote for me.

We have now in TNP a new court system, the Fiqh, which is based on common sense rather than legal minutiae, arbitration rather than the jack boots of authority and which, crucially, has proven itself capable of delivery rather than months of prevarication.

Evidence based observation would suggest that the current secular court system does not woek. What makes you think you can succees where so many others have failed? Would you refer cases to the Fiqh should the constitutional system remain incapable of delivery?

The current system has not been working, you're right. Where I will succeed where others have failed is that I do not believe that it's my way or the highway. For instance, the Fiqh, in my opinion is a good attempt to resolve issues outside of our traditional court system. As I stated, I will look to settle as many cases sans trial as possible and certainly will look to work with the new Courts to see if parties would be willing to have their cases heard there. If they are and if the Fiqh becomes a better resolution process than our current system, I would definitely support legal changes that made the Fiqh the court of the land.

The only way this happens is with a capable attorney who doesn't have qualms about doing things in a new, and potentially better way. I am that attorney and I hope to win this election and bring common sense to our legal system.
