Vote for KiwiTaicho - Council of Five

KiwiTaicho:
"Currently I'm the Deputy Minister of Immigration and Internal Affairs and am privileged in that I have had the chance to participate in the Council of Five. I'm also an active member of the NPA and a staunch believer in the democratic process within TNP. Some will be unhappy that I was the one who motioned for the recall of a popular member of the judiciary recently but I believed and still believe that someone who openly conspires to overthrow that democratic process should never be in a position of power. Those who complain about the apparent oligarchy surely should have no objection to a new face on the Council of Five. Above all I want all voices in TNP to be heard, I wish to attract more involvement by the wider TNP community and ultimately hope to maintain the regional assembly as the paramount law-making body."

As I mentioned I'm KiwiTaicho, the current Deputy Minister of Immigration and Internal Affairs and while I have been in the region itself for quite a while, my presence on the forums is a relatively recent occurrence.

When I first joined the forums I was under the impression that newcomers would be given a fair go and ultimately that my opinion would be given the same weight as everybody else's. Regretfully on at least one occasion my status as a newcomer has been used against me as if it removes my argument completely. This is what I hope to change. I hope to bring people to the region and instead of greeting them with an elitist attitude, welcoming them and treating them as they should be treated.

A select few of the RA refer to the oligarchy implying that some nations, particularly those on the Security Council are holding onto power and preventing new people from stepping up. Whether this is true is not the point but rather the same critics of the so-called oligarchy are quick to appear and disapprove when new members such as myself wish to join the executive and propose a new point of view.

As I mentioned I am also an ardent supporter of the NPA. I am an active member and wish to do all I can to inspire others to join and remain active. Recently there have been heated debates on how the NPA should develop and I welcome any opportunity to be a part of such a debate, as a member of the RA or hopefully, as a member of the Council of Five.
I have briefly mentioned the recent recall of a popular member of our judicial branch and I truly do stand by all of my comments. I value the democratic process highly and have tremendous respect for the law-making authority of the Regional Assembly. I thus think that the RA should have the final say on any matters of great import and no one opinion should dominate the landscape simply because of some sort of elitist superiority based on the time one has spent in the region.

Finally I would like to voice my overwhelming gratitude to the current Council of Five as well as all of the other unsung heroes of TNP who hold offices and actively pursue prosperity within the region. Thank you for the nomination and most of all, thank you for taking the time to read what I have to say.

I welcome any constructive questions or comments accordingly.

I suspect from your opening post what the answer will be, but I feel I ought to ask you the same question I asked abbey. But since you only arrived on this forum five weeks ago, and in that time have made only 24 posts, do you think you have the experience of The North Pacific to be elected to the Council of Five?

I am opposed to elitist superiority in the region as well, and I think you would be a Great choice for council of five.

Thank you so much! The best of luck to you too!

I actually framed the original post (as you noticed) partly in response to your comment to Abbey and partly based on how certain members have responded to me in debates. Since you took the time to ask, I will endeavour to re-answer the question and hopefully without repeating myself.

Firstly, as a forum administrator, I am deeply concerned that you place such a high value on ones post count. I've moderated and run several large forums myself and I assure you that involvement or experience should rarely ever be measured by how many posts one has. I mean this with all due deference but quite a few of your recent posts I've read add little if anything to discussion and often seem to create unnecessary friction. Personally I read as many of the topics that arise as I can but often I don't feel the need to respond. This is because I have nothing new to add, I feel a discussion is not constructive or I feel that the post itself stands on its own merit and therefore does not need criticism levelled at it.

Secondly, again with all due deference - over the past five weeks I have been heavily involved in all areas of the region. Some of which I can't talk about but if you would like to ask about my involvement in the NPA, the council of five or anything else - feel free to talk to the Minister of Defence or the delegate.

Thirdly, I would ask to be elected in the hope of gaining valuable experience. If you don't let anyone new up to bat, how can one ever hope to gain experience? Voting and participating without an office shows participation but I don't consider this to be experience. The passage of time also does not simply mean one is experienced. Many members have recently been critical of 'experienced' members holding onto the keys to the kingdom and when I stand up as a newcomer I'm told that I need to sit on the forums a while longer before I can participate in an office? This seems silly.

Fourthly, I think that the Council of Five should be representative of ALL of the regional assembly and considering how many new faces have appeared in the RA of late, it is very appropriate that at least one new comer should be a part of the executive branch.

Finally though Flem, I want to thank you for asking the question because at least you're thinking about who you're voting for and not simply clicking the name of a person you like the most. Thanks also for helping with the many administrative tasks that are necessary to keep the forum moving. As I previously said, I welcome any further questions.

The Cabinet is a dynamic group of people, often there are disagreements and rowdy debates. As a member of the cabinet how do you think you would contribute to this? What would you do to ensure you have a good working relationship with the rest of cabinet?

Good question! I think since I've joined the forums I've tried to avoid making *everyone* happy because that's what I do in real life and it's bad! You can't make everyone happy and you need to speak up sometimes regardless of how it'll impact on other people.

As you know, I'm well aware of the strong opinions and politics that seem to consistently popup and I think all you can really do is try to find middle ground where you can. That said, sometimes you just need to put your foot down too. I worry I was a bit over the top with the whole Blue Wolf saga but then again I'm a big believer in the democratic process and I won't apologize for fighting for that tooth and nail.

Many people (in real life) have referred to me as a peace maker and I think that's all you can really do in cabinet, put across your views while trying to listen and incorporate what other people have to say while trying to defuse any tricky situations. As I said previously, you need to try and find middle ground. If you can't do that... well most of the important decisions ultimately should be made by the Regional Assembly at any rate.

As for a good working relationship, it's like any other relationship that people find themselves in, you work at it one step at a time. Most importantly you be tolerant and inclusive to all members and avoid being condescending to the newer members because this was a real problem with some people during the current term.

Thanks for asking the question and I hope that answers it!
