Lesson 3: Puppets and Switchers

What the hell is a puppet?

Generally, a puppet is considered as any nation a player has in their possession. As such, examples of puppets include any nation you own, such as your main nation, your World Assembly (WA) nation, and so forth.

What do we use puppets for and why?

Raiders use puppets for raids mainly. Others use puppets for a variety of reasons such as recruiting, ambassador work, annoying the crap out of people, and so forth.

One of the main reasons we use puppets is to protect our main nation. If we break the rules (by accident of course) the MODS will probably delete the offending nation. If it’s your main nation you'll probably get pretty mad. If it’s your puppet you just make a new one.

Do we need new puppets for every mission?

Yes and no.

We generally use new puppets s other regions can't track our movements. When defenders find out we invaded a region, they will find out who the invaders are (by looking at the names of nations endorsing the delegate) and they will then watch those nations to see what regions they are in by dossier-ing it. Once the defenders have the name of a raider nation, they will probably move defender nations to that region to endorse the native delegate. This becomes a problem when if are trying to invade that region.

Sometimes, though, we don't use new puppets but old ones we've used before, which we call "dirty puppets" or "dirties" because of the increased chance of them being caught. The puppets are used most commonly on quick, up-date missions, throw away or fun missions, and for reinforcement of an already capture region.

How do I keep defenders from finding out that my puppets are going to be used to invade a region?

Never use your main nation to invade; keep it within The North Pacific and use it to talk to other members, and resign it from the WA. Create a puppet nation, make it WA, and leave it in a small, peaceful region that has a founder and is not raider or defender region, When you are called to invade then use your puppet nation. Remember that once you have taken part in an invasion your nation is noted by the Defender regions. All they have to do is type your name in the ‘Search nation’ section of ‘the world’ and watch you when you move so you will have to create a new puppet after every raid. Easy. Keep your WA puppet in a small out of the way region and never keep it in the Pacific regions. Never move your main nation anywhere near a target.

What is a WA switcher and how does it work?

A WA switcher is a puppet that can be put into the World Assembly at a moments notice. This allows us to run missions very soon after the previous mission (usually the day after the previous one ends).

It usually takes 1-2 days to get a nation in the WA if we don't use switchers. Using WA switcher effectively means you need to have at least 2 e-mail addresses (just create a couple of hotmail or yahoo accounts if you don’t have 2 already).

When you create your puppets, enter an e-mail address not being used by a puppet already in the WA and apply to join the WA with the new puppet. To join the WA you will have to use a link provided by an e-mail sent to you by NS. Once a mission is finished, take that puppet out of the WA and put the new puppet in the WA (link in e-mail) so it is ready or the next mission. Now you have another e-mail address that isn’t being used, so you create another switcher.

Can I have more than one puppet in the WA at once?

NO!! Both puppets will be deleted. Always resign from the WA before joining with a new puppet. But this doesn’t mean you can apply to join with a new puppet, as long as the puppet applying to join doesn’t have the same e-mail address as the puppet currently in the WA.
