Since the Delegate is Head of Government and Head of State...

Garde à l'eau!
Informally speaking here:

Given that the Delegate is Head of State and Head of Government, would it not be wise to require the Delegate to present a "My government will" statement as to the policies that will be put on the agenda? Just like the Queen of England does before Parliament?

It could also be required or advised for candidates to present such a statement in their campaign threads as well?

If they don't, will we impeach them?

It just seems unnecessary to me. As long as they do their job and do it well, I have no qualms.

It would be nice, but the current delegate hasn't been forthcoming on anything and has the transparency level of concrete.

I think most would settle for them just turning up on time. :P

While not necessary, it could encourage a greater level of accountability. By requiring the delegate to make a clear statement outlining his governments plans before the RA after an election, the electorate will know what to expect from his/her government. Should these things not be met, then the delegate is likely to be unpopular.

But beyond accountability it is also good to see some form of vision for the region and where it wants to be in the coming months.

Shouldn't these ideas and plans already be proposed during election by candidates for Delegate? If TNP is stupid enough to elect a Delegate that does not have a plan before the election then it is likely that we don't want a plan or that we don't actually care.

Clearly. Elections do give accountability as well. But I remember you posting, when you were running for delegate, that you saw little point in putting up a post on the forum anyway, as people were unlikely to read it anyway.

Not only that, not all things are announced in elections as well. Upon winning an election, the delegate having more time to think and consider his/her position should be able to give the assembly a timeline for the implementation of their promises.

Whether or not the candidates make their plans clear during an election is in my opinion not relevant to this argument. A delegate addressing the assembly in such a way, would also add to the ceremonial nature of the postion.

It would be nice of the Delegate did that but I don't believe it should be a requirement.

True, but it does give a good outline for governmental policies that fall under the purvey of the Delegate. It also sets the tone for the Delegate's term to a certain extent - and provides a good tool for torturing delegates for political entertainment should they sufficiently stray from their campaign promises.

All in all, voluntary or not, it makes the Delegate actually look like a head of state and government which is generally a desirable situation all things considered.

TNP seems to prefer vague generalities, platitudes and cliches to thought out plans and platforms. This has been proved over and over again.

The last times I ran for positions of power and I posted plans, I almost never got elected. It seems people have more hope when to leave everything all mysterious and shadowy. :P

or perhaps some things are just better left unsaid? Who knows.

You have a point there, BW.

I now suppose that means I have to drop that plank from my platform for declaring Flemingovianism as the unofficial-official state religion of TNP.

And replace it with "Free Rum For Everyone! Drink Up and Flush the Power Elite Right Out You Kidneys!"
