Out with the Old, In with the New

The January 2011 elections began on January 1 and came to a conclusion on January 17 to elect a new Delegate, Vice Delegate, and Speaker of the Regional Assembly for the North Pacific. The candidates for the delegate race were the incumbent delegate Flemingovia, Dalimbar, and Grosseschnauzer. The campaign was at times fierce, yet professional, with discussed issues which included the involvement of government, rogue Delegates, activity, and making sure the trains ran on time, among other matters. Each candidate ran a well campaign for the delegacy however when it was all said and done, Dalimbar was victorious.

Delegate Election Results:
  • Dalimbar: 8
  • Flemingovia: 4
  • Grosseschnauzer: 3

Part of Dalimbar Acceptance Speech:
Thanks Flem for your service to the region over the past term. I would like to thank you and Grosseschnauzer for a good campaign, and I would like to congratulate Blackshear on becoming Vice Delegate and Felasia on becoming Speaker of the Regional Assembly.

I would like to thank everyone who voted for me in the election, and I am looking forward to working with the region as your Delegate over the next term.

Cheers!

Blackshear ran for the Vice Delegate position unopposed gaining 18 total votes.

Blackshear Acceptance Speech:
Thank you to everyone who voted for me. I realize I ran unopposed but I appreciate the endorsement I received from the Regional Assembly.

Short term I'll be working on reaching #2 on the endorsement list. Long term I'll be trying to beef up the Security Council's membership. We'll see what happens from there.

In the Speaker election, Felasia also ran un-opposed, gaining 15 votes.

In Other News:

Rapid Delegate Transfer
Following the election of Dalimbar to the Delegacy, the Government turned to the issue of the transfer of the in-game Delegacy from Flemingovia to Dalimbar's WA territory Chodean Kal. As soon as the results of the election were announced, Dalimbar embarked on a telegramming blitz, encouraging all those nations who were not endorsing him to do so, and invited them to the forum. By the time the January 18th evening update happened, Chodean Kal went from 106 endorsements to 148. As Flemingovia had 144 endorsements (based on Government estimates), the Delegacy transfer was completed just one night after the election. Commentators from both from The North Pacific and around the world, including the incoming Delegate himself, were surprised at the quick transfer, with Chief Justice Grosseschnauzer describing the event as "one of the fastest and smoothest Delegate transitions in living memory".

TNP and Social Media
fb.jpg

Thanks to the hard work of the new Secretary of Internal Affairs, Pasargad, TNP has expanded into the realm of social media, by having an official page on Facebook. Want to keep up with news and events from The North Pacific? Feel free to visit us at [http://www.facebook.com/pages/The-North-Pacific/179097305462419?v=info].

Also, it is expected that the Secretary of Communications, Vilnoia1, is to revamp our regional media services. Speculation is mounting that Secretary Vilnoia1 and the Delegate are working on creating spaces for foreign newspapers, re-establishing our own regional newspaper, and are investigating the possibility of an official podcast to serve both North Pacificans and listeners outside of the region. Stay tuned for more information!

Forum Root Access Handover

Hersfold announced on January 21, 2011 that he had handed over the root access of the Regional Forum to Admin Grosseschnauzer. He stated that the cause of this decision was based on a request from the region because he hasn’t been around for the past three years. He completely agreed that since he has been absent from the forum that we should not have to contact him to come and access the root admin controls. These controls will allow Grosseschnauzer to perform restricted functions within the admin control panel that cannot be accessed from the regular admin menu. While these functions are not commonly used on an everyday basis they are still necessary to use from time to time to maintain our regional forum. Please join us in congratulate Grosseschnauzer on this promotion to Root Admin of The North Pacific Forum.

TNP RMB Contests

Recognizing the success of reducing the number of badspam recruitment messages from the RMB by encouraging recruiters (and North Pacificans) to post messages in different styles of poetry (especially haiku, a TNP favorite.) The Delegate has continued this policy by announcing a different style of poetry each week for recruiters to follow. Nations are encouraged to post in this style, and to submit nominations to Chodean Kal, who will announce the winner in a week's time. The prize will be recognition in the World Factbook Entry, and a large supply of TNP Rum.

Excellent job. I know you put a lot of effort into this.

It would be awesome if we could share this with our inter-regional friends abroad.

Thanks Guys. I have to thank a lot of people for some input on this regional update though. It definitely was not a one man show in creating it. Also the plan I think Dali has is to use it in our foreign embassies.
