Could an Admin update the forum description ? I currently reads:

WA Delegate's Office
Currently occupied by Delegate NewKervoskia

As NK clearly isn't the sitting Delegate, could this up updated to avoid confusion for new folks (and old folks like me).

Nothing wrong with the forums as long as they are well managed.

Government might be okay too, if it had anyone actively running it.

Never thought I'd see TNP turn into an Anarchy.

It's only an Anarchy as long as the old members have control. The second someone unaccepted by this core group of old timers steps into the fray "the resistance" suddenly come out of nowhere to "restore order". Of course, once the threat to the old order is suppressed then we can all go back to being inactive, dull, game-killers. :)

Oh yeah, also forgot the history of the "rebels" that come out of the system claiming they will mix things up with some crazy and wacky changes. They eject a few hundred nations, then get bored and go inactive, usually handing control back to the government they claimed they were going to abolish after only a few months in power. TNP history is full of examples of these types starting almost from directly after the fall of Pixiedance to the present.

Well, it's hard to argue with any of that. But it seems that the 'old members' were the ones that opened the floor to unlimited discussions on what to do. Though this is only how it appears to me having arrived 'after the fact'. (I'm still catching up on the current state of NS.) It would be nice to see more comments from them. Silence is deafening, and does not contribute to the well being of the region.

The control of the forum and it's control on the region is an old debate. And really, the answer is quite simple if everyone could accept it.

But a lack of trust has become an entrenched state of being for TNP. That's not meant to be a criticism -- there has been good reason for lost trust through the many betrayals and ursurpations. This disruption to the region has it's roots back in UPS Rail and Great Bight. Before that, TNP was a powerhouse and major player in NS affairs. Not that it didn't have odd quirks before that.

Feeders are managed by an oligarchy of core players. Some cores are tightly organized, some are loose associations. A healthy feeder refreshes that core. And feeders that take chances are usually the most interesting and active.

Security is already provided for the region by game mechanics through influence. Rogue delegates can't last long. So the more important thing is to ensure an interested, active, and creative Delegate and empower that person to lead the region. And provide that person with the ability to have active leaders helping with the work of managing a feeder. (which includes an active and responsive forum admin)

Combine that with an environment that encourages new players to get involved immediately, not restrict their direct participation in regional affairs for long periods of time.

Yes....gimicks and wacky changes are merely entertainment, and does not last.... and produces nothing of lasting impact. But when you are starting from nothing, as it appears, there is little to lose.

One thing is certain = The status quo isn't working

The root problem IMO is that TNP's player base is very conflict-driven and tends to fade away in times of peace. That is not the case in the West Pacific or the East Pacific as it exists now.

The easiest and most effective way to change that is to draw in players from other regions, and the best way to do that is to change governments and provide a completely fresh slate. You can also recruit internally - I have tried it - but for the most part TNP is full of issue-answerers and puppets. The few who might actually be interested in gameplay are turned off by the RA application process.

And the above is true because of the system of government IMO

When elections are only every 4 months and the legislature is for all members, there is no real incentive to be active.

I don't have a concern over the frequency of elections. And I have no problem with the legislature being for all members - I like and encourage that. Though I beleive inactive members need to be removed - they can reapply if they become active again later.

But a 30-day waiting period is extravagent and promotes inactivity rather than engagement. It's meant to provide security, but it only provides a roadblock to activity.

Delegates, Ministers, and Speakers must be active and engaged in the duties that they've accepted, and not be busy trying to hamstring each other. The CLO soul reason for existance is to be a thorn in the side of the region's executive. Not a true security measure.

And a Judiciary that engages in trials that go on endlessly for months is worthless.

To return to the topic of this thread, I am sorry I have not acted on this earlier - I have been in and out of hospital for the past three weeks, and while I have sometimes been able to look in on the forum via my iphone, it has been near impossible to do any posting.

Hopefully I will be back regularly now. Any forum issues, you know where I am.
