I intend to hold TNP vs Grimalkin on IRC, logging the trial and posting the logs.

Attorney General Gracius Maximus takes issue with this, saying that IRC is less accessible than a forum trial, and declares that therefore I need not seek agreement from him to a set date.

Does his opposition to IRC as a medium for trials hold merit on constitutional or legal grounds?

IRC isn't my cuppa tea, but GM would have a heart attack if he had to do a trial my way; which is having everything ready to be posted at the appointed time of trial.

I believe that the Court as a whole, or an individual presiding judge, has to right to determine procedure for a trial. There literally has been no agreement among the various justices since the current Constitution came into force as to one favored approach to conducting a trial, and until there is legislative guidance, we are left to a case-by-case experimental approach, one trial at a time.

Addendum:

I believe the region still has an official IRC channel #tnp, which I believe is currently owned by Flemingovia. If I remember correctly people can join the channel and observe the chat without being given a voice to "speak" in the channel by a channel mod.

There had been a second TNP government channel as well but I don't remember it's title; and in any event there can be a subchannel set up for the trail by those who have mod powers at the primary channel -- or at least that's the way I remember it. In any event, GM can also "record" the chat (anyone who is on can do that if they know the correct commands) so any concerns he may have about completeness can be resolved by giving him or others the option of recording the chat -- but only the official transcript posted by the court will be used by the Court . If there a transcript issue, we'll deal with that when the time comes. In the meantime, you should plan on posting the complete transcript, errors and all, and that should avoid any issues.
