In accordance with being appointed to be the Elections Commissioner by Delegate New Kervoskia, I am pleased to announce that our now-belated elections will commence.

In order to minimize further delays to the election cycle, the timeline for the May 2010 election will be as such:
Monday, May 10 2010 at 2:00am EDT - Start of nomination period.
Monday, May 17 2010 at 1:59am EDT - End of nomination period.
Monday, May 17 2010 at 2:00am EDT - Start of official campaign period.
Thursday, May 20 2010 at 1:59am EDT - End of official campaign period.
Thursday, May 20 2010 at 2:00am EDT - Start of voting period.
Thursday, May 27 2010 at 1:59am EDT - End of voting period.

The following positions are open to candidacy:
Delegate
Vice Delegate
Speaker of the Assembly
Council of Legal Oversight (3)

In order to qualify to be a candidate, one must either declare their candidacy or must be seconded by two Assembly members and accepted by the nominee in this thread before the nomination deadline as mentioned above. Please note that in accordance with TNP Law 26, a nation may only stand as a candidate for one (1) position.

The link to the voting booth will be posted in this post when it is created, and further announcements will also be attached to this post.

The nomination period of the May 2010 election is officially opened. The candidates are:

Delegate
New Kervoskia

Vice-Delegate
Eluvatar

Speaker of the Assembly
Govindia
Grimalkin

Council of Legal Oversight (3 seats)
Dyr Nasad

Flemingovia

Although I recognize that there is a current court challenge against the clause of the constitution which requires Regional Assembly members to have been members for 30 days prior to submitting their candidacy for elections, at this time the section in question has not been amended nor removed by the courts. As such, I can not legally permit HEM to be a candidate in the Delegate election.

With regards to the candidacy of Great Bights Mum, although the Elections Commission recognizes the number of years of service of the nominee to the region in the past, it is the understanding of the Elections Commission that due to the fact that said nation had to re-apply to become a member of the Regional Assembly after losing rights to sit in the Regional Assembly due to inactivity and has not served the 30 consecutive days prior to this election period, I as Elections Commissioner am forced to issue the same decision as I did with HEM. As such, as Elections Commissioner I can not place Great Bights Mum on the ballot. Should there be a ruling on the section in question by the Courts before the nomination period is closed (1:59am EDT Monday May 17th, as noted above), then the Elections Commission will act accordingly.

Since CJ Schnauzers has announced he will be afk for an undetermined length of time, it does not appear a ruling from the court will be forthcoming prior to the close of nominations.

Over the past two months, I have been active in the region. I have alerted NK to potential threats and security issues which I am sure he will acknowledge. I have also maintained a high level of endorsements to safeguard the region. I simply overlooked completing the RA paperwork in a timely manner. How about if you give me a "Special Dispensation?"
 
There is a larger scale disenfranchisement going on. This is why I strongly support dismantling the Regional Assembly completely.
 
At this point in time, I am hopeful that the Court will be in a position to make their judgment before the nomination period ends. However, should there be no official response from the Court by either Saturday evening or Sunday morning, at that time I will be prepared to issue a decision regarding the "special dispensations" as asked by Great Bights Mum. In the mean time, I am open to consultations with interested parties between now and Saturday evening. Should there be a wish on the part of interested parties to contact me privately, please feel free to send me a private message, or query me on IRC (I am there under the nickname Dali). If there is interest in a public debate on the matter, I encourage those interested parties to utilize more appropriate venues to engage in said debate, and should there be debate on this topic, I will take the various viewpoints into consideration when rendering a decision.

I would also like to ask that this thread be used for nomination of candidates only. Further discussions on special cases can be made in other venues, as stated above, as I am interested in ensuring that those individuals who are interested in either submitting their candidacies or else nominating other members are able to do so in an orderly fashion.
 
Under TNP Law 26, in the section "Candidates", it states that "Candidates may only stand for one office or position during a given Election Cycle." As such, Gov, can you please choose which position you are wanting to run for before I place you on the ballot?

EDIT: Please disregard this statement. Due to the statement by Chief Justice Grosseschnauzer in the January 2010 elections here: http://z13.invisionfree.com/TNP/index.php?...opic=5741&st=20, nations may run for a CLO spot and one of the other position on the ballot. My apologies.
 
I should also get somewhat involved again.

I nominate myself for a spot on the Council of Legal Oversight.
