FDA bans flavored tobacco

THINK OF THE CHILDREN!

I know that people think these "flavored" tobacco are supposed to be targeting kids, but they still taste fucking disgusting. No one I've ever known has started off with some peach flavored cigs or bubble-gum flavored chew, its only after they start using tobacco products that they get into that shit.

Oh well, paranoia and ignorance wins yet another argument. Then again, smoking is bad for you...but so is drinking, and if they ban that I'm going to riot like its Paris 1968.

also: note that they didn't ban menthols because the tobacco lobby makes serious ching off them whereas their competitors sold lots of cloves which the FDA has now banned.
 
I've learned over the years that liberals are not actually open minded about things. They're controlling and very narrow minded. If you want to get stuff done and actually have freedom it's all about the Libertarians.

Most underage smokers I knew growing up loved cloves, and other flavored cigarettes. But hey, anecdotal evidence...
 
You'll be happy to know that the Conservative government up here in Canada wants to do the same thing, JAL. Ban flavoured tobacco and cigarillos, not legalize marijuana, that is.
 
The FDA confuses me. They will ban certain kinds of tobacco, yet they allow aspartame and BST/BGH to be used. Aspartame contains three extremely toxic chemicals. Certain forms of it are made from strains of E. Coli. Aspartame has never been fully studied and has links to brain cancer and retardation in lab rats. It was never fully tested on humans when approved. BST has been linked to cancer and adolescent obesity. It's so bad that it's banned in Canada and Europe. The FDA and it's lack of concern about the food supply is the main reason I don't buy food from the grocery store.

Just goes to show that government doesn't mind you poisoning yourself as long as you use their poison.
 
Right, they should totally address every toxic chemical we're exposed to on a day to day basis instead of trying to address the #1 preventable cause of death in the US. We just need to give them a bigger budget, raise taxes a little, i'm sure people would understand that it's for their own good and would not complain at all.

Also it's not really fair to hold up Europe and Canada as an example of how bad it is just because it's banned. They have a different system of risk assessment than the US. "Innocent until proven guilty" is not a concept that is only used in the justice system of the US...
 
A $3.2 billion dollar budget isn't enough?! More taxes are not a solution(plus the ban on flavored tobacco will severely crunch the Federal tax income). Americans are already taxed to death as it is. And both aspartame and BST/BGH contribute to the #1 cause of death. Here in America heart disease is the #1 cause of death. One of the contributing factors to that is obesity. As I pointed to earlier they also have links to cancer #2 cause of death. And yes if it is going into food it should be addressed since they are THE FOOD AND DRUG ADMINISTRATION. It's kinda their job. If leading doctors the world over call it a poison then yes we should kinda at least listen.
 
I'm going to have to see where you're getting your data that there is a causal link between BGH/BST and these negative health effects. I do know that there is a causal link between smoking cigarettes and increased rates of heart disease and cancer. Just like the FDA does, and thank goodness they're trying to address it!

I think what you're doing is called "missing the point" of my argument and instead would prefer the FDA to chase after chemical boogeymen. You're worried about BGH/BST? Well look at this list of additives to cigarettes.
