JAL 4 Delegate

Hello TNPers.

My first foray into TNP was as I recall in late 2005. I was the annoying PRP-turned-ADN newbie and Poltsamaa was running against Romanoffia for Prime Minister. Twoslit was being a jerk, the region was moving away from the ADN hegemony of the day, and activity was the last thing on our minds. An odd little fellow named Grenval was elected Minister of Communications; upon his resignation I his deputy was given the position.

My term as MoC was easily the highlight of my career and stands as my proudest achievement. I revived the North Pacific Wire, made fun of Cathyy, and gained some respect along the way. The Lexicon declared war on us with a frankly totally ridiculous casus belli. Sitting in cabinet during those absurd times was interesting for certain - and it was truly my pleasure assisting Prime Minister Hersfold, Delegate FEC, and the rest of our cabinet in bringing our region a victory. We made them look entirely ridiculous and it was such a well-oiled collaborative effort.

In early 2008 I was given an opportunity to help overthrow the government here and shape the flow of gameplay throughout our NSworld. I was very much torn over this at first but fully devoted myself to the Crimson Order effort by the time we launched. Like most coups it started out well - we had great plans. Plans like a PRP-esque provincial system and an antagonistic war machine with a pension for gameplay conflict. But the conflict slowed down dramatically in the weeks following our coup the effort began to dry up.

Do I have regrets? For certain. Aside from behaving like a jackass and failing to put in the effort necessary to build an active regional government I personally have found that conflict alone does not result in sustainable activity. If it were that simple many places in NS would be much more active than they are. Still - in my opinion many involved in the CO had noble intentions even if mine were more of a mixed bag.

In retrospect I should have done what I am doing now: running for delegate legally. I do not necessarily like the ideas of the CLO or NS judicial systems but I'm more than willing to live with them because overall I think our constitution is the strongest among the Pacifics. Offsite delegate elections provide for a dynamic and sometimes unpredictable (in good ways mostly) region and the delegate is given wide enough Constitutional powers to properly carry out his mandate.

If elected delegate I will mold the North Pacific into an Islamic Republic but within the parameters of our current Constitution. I will fashion my own title as Grand Ayatollah and I will appoint a Minister for Peaceful Jihad (foreign affairs), Minister of Oil (domestic affairs), and a Mahmud Ahmadinejad (who is responsible for the advancement of our esteemed nuclear effort). Members of my cabinet will sport humorous Islamic-themed avatars and/or sigs.

My administration will not take everything so omg srsly - though I am capable of taking things seriously when necessary and appropriate. In my opinion the days of powerful feeder militaries are behind us; I will focus on domestic and foreign affairs rather than military issues thus. On the issue of foreign affairs I will say something that might be somewhat controversial: we need to look beyond our feeder horizons and develop relationships with active UCR's. With the input of my cabinet and RA we will more than likely pursue alliances with at least one active UCR and I am open to suggestions. I believe this will put us back on the world stage where we belong and it will give us some de facto military might if the UCR(s) in question are militarily active. Like I have said I am open to suggestions regarding who to approach. I have not pursued this policy as Foreign Affairs Minister only because I went on two extended vacations without internet access (unknown to me in advance).

Summary of my qualifications:

Former High Judge of the Pacific (2005)
Former Lieutenant of the Pacifican militia (2005)
Former Director of the ADN News Service (2005)
Former TNP Minister of Communications and Editor of the Wire (2006)

Former TNP Minister of Arts and Entertainment (2007)
Former Crimson Order Minister of Internal Affairs (2008)
Former Crimson Order Intelligence Director (2008)
Former Equilism Minister of Immigration (2009)
Former Delegate of Lazarus (2008)
Former Vice Delegate of Lazarus (2008-09)
Current TNP Minister of Foreign Affairs

Thank you for taking the time to read this my lovelies :tb2:

Oh yes and my TNP nation currently is Durkadurkiranistan with 84 endorsements. Having swapped only half-ish the region I am prepared for a quick and efficient delegacy transfer if elected.

govt type doesn't really affect feeder endo swapping...when Dyr Nasad was WA, it was always capitalist paradise/corporate bordello/capitalizt...and I think I had the endo swapping down :P

:D where will we be obtaining our nuclear materials from?

I have heard that North Korea has some that they would like to share.

In any case I will instruct Mr Ahmadinejahd to submit WA proposals to facilitate our quest for nukes... umm, nuclear power.

What sort of activities do you have planned to keep TNP active and exciting? Obviously there probably isn't anything concrete, but do you have anything cool in mind?

A dance would be nice. I organized a roleplay dance during the early days of the Crimson Order and it drew a lot of attention; the Feast of Blackadder dances in the NPO were rather... active... too. :P Such a thing would be easy to organize - just get the word out to the outside world via embassy updates or whatever. I'm pretty sure dancing is legal under Sharia law although I'd have to check to make sure :P

It would also be nice to have a stand-up comedy contest. Contestants would have a maximum number of words with which to be amusing and a panel of judges could determine the winner.

Really it boils down to giving people something to talk about. These forums get quite a bit of traffic compared to most other regions; just a matter of getting people to post. The Islamic theme concept will be my attempt at giving people something to talk about.

It is also abundantly clear that our forums need an overhaul and this can and should take place regardless of these election results. Our forums are a disastrous maze for newbies who dare to look at our behemoth structure. A new skin would help freshen things up as well. That said this is up to our lovely forum admins more than me; I will nag them however ;) Sydia has been very good on this issue I might add. If another administrator is required to complete the necessary work then he'd be the obvious choice.

Suspect it is question time...

1. Do you feel that you are a trustworthy person? Can people be confident that you are being honest in this thread?
2. Have you ever deceived people in this region?
3. What would your islamic republic do about the women in this region who refuse to wear a burkha?

I am going to combine #1 and #2 since they are related:

1./2. Of course I feel that I am trustworthy :P It is a matter of whether or not the region feels that way as well. A year and a half ago my participation in the Crimson Order meant that I had to break the oath I took to the region; moreover I lied to you in particular over my motives in the CO (specifically that I was spying on them). That was a total falsehood I invented to allow me to keep an eye on the FRA at the time. Nearly a year ago I said I regretted it then and I regret it now.

So can people trust me? I can give you my word and the fact that I have basically zero influence but there is little else I can do or say to that end.

3. Actually I'm pretty certain females in Iran are not forced to wear burkhas, though if somebody would like to roleplay the role of a female in a burkha I'd not stop them :P

Thank you flem :)

And thank you as well, Dyr Nasad, I guess :P

I suppose I should include some closing comments as the campaign draws to an end - especially given that I now have a worthy opponent:

I promise to be an active and engaging delegate who will commit himself entirely to the region and community. I sincerely believe that I have the wisdom, the tenacity, the expertise, and the time necessary to guide our regional government toward a bold and bright future.

I promise to bring new ideas to the table while having the humility to admit when my own idea is not working. Islamification I believe will provide for an exciting and fresh atmosphere and will draw the world's attention to the North Pacific while at the same time remaining true to our democratic ideals.

I promise to work hard. As delegate I will personally contact every new nation created within the North Pacific and invite them to these forums. The UCR's get unfettered access to our citizens' inboxes - we can and should provide these citizens with a superior alternative.

And finally - I promise to be loyal to this region and its community. In the months following the Crimson Order it became abundantly clear to me that the most beautiful aspect of Nationstates are the friendships made - IC and OOC. I pledge both IC and OOC that I will not betray those bonds of friendship.

I would be most privileged to recieve each and every vote that I might receive; to be elected delegate of our region would be by far the most humbling experience of my career in this game. I will defend her to my last breath and so help me God there is a bright future for the North Pacific and Nationstates both.
