King Durk the Awesome
TNPer
Hello TNPers.
My first foray into TNP was as I recall in late 2005. I was the annoying PRP-turned-ADN newbie and Poltsamaa was running against Romanoffia for Prime Minister. Twoslit was being a jerk, the region was moving away from the ADN hegemony of the day, and activity was the last thing on our minds. An odd little fellow named Grenval was elected Minister of Communications; upon his resignation I his deputy was given the position.
My term as MoC was easily the highlight of my career and stands as my proudest achievement. I revived the North Pacific Wire, made fun of Cathyy, and gained some respect along the way. The Lexicon declared war on us with a frankly totally ridiculous casus belli. Sitting in cabinet during those absurd times was interesting for certain - and it was truly my pleasure assisting Prime Minister Hersfold, Delegate FEC, and the rest of our cabinet in bringing our region a victory. We made them look entirely ridiculous and it was such a well-oiled collaborative effort.
In early 2008 I was given an opportunity to help overthrow the government here and shape the flow of gameplay throughout our NSworld. I was very much torn over this at first but fully devoted myself to the Crimson Order effort by the time we launched. Like most coups it started out well - we had great plans. Plans like a PRP-esque provincial system and an antagonistic war machine with a pension for gameplay conflict. But the conflict slowed down dramatically in the weeks following our coup the effort began to dry up.
Do I have regrets? For certain. Aside from behaving like a jackass and failing to put in the effort necessary to build an active regional government I personally have found that conflict alone does not result in sustainable activity. If it were that simple many places in NS would be much more active than they are. Still - in my opinion many involved in the CO had noble intentions even if mine were more of a mixed bag.
In retrospect I should have done what I am doing now: running for delegate legally. I do not necessarily like the ideas of the CLO or NS judicial systems but I'm more than willing to live with them because overall I think our constitution is the strongest among the Pacifics. Offsite delegate elections provide for a dynamic and sometimes unpredictable (in good ways mostly) region and the delegate is given wide enough Constitutional powers to properly carry out his mandate.
If elected delegate I will mold the North Pacific into an Islamic Republic but within the parameters of our current Constitution. I will fashion my own title as Grand Ayatollah and I will appoint a Minister for Peaceful Jihad (foreign affairs), Minister of Oil (domestic affairs), and a Mahmud Ahmadinejad (who is responsible for the advancement of our esteemed nuclear effort). Members of my cabinet will sport humorous Islamic-themed avatars and/or sigs.
My administration will not take everything so omg srsly - though I am capable of taking things seriously when necessary and appropriate. In my opinion the days of powerful feeder militaries are behind us; I will focus on domestic and foreign affairs rather than military issues thus. On the issue of foreign affairs I will say something that might be somewhat controversial: we need to look beyond our feeder horizons and develop relationships with active UCR's. With the input of my cabinet and RA we will more than likely pursue alliances with at least one active UCR and I am open to suggestions. I believe this will put us back on the world stage where we belong and it will give us some de facto military might if the UCR(s) in question are militarily active. Like I have said I am open to suggestions regarding who to approach. I have not pursued this policy as Foreign Affairs Minister only because I went on two extended vacations without internet access (unknown to me in advance).
Summary of my qualifications:
Former High Judge of the Pacific (2005)
Former Lieutenant of the Pacifican militia (2005)
Former Director of the ADN News Service (2005)
Former TNP Minister of Communications and Editor of the Wire (2006)
