Haha, you're right. One of my ambitions this summer is to educate myself on some Meteorology 101. Any suggestions for textbooks or the like?
The sad part is that I've never taken an academic class in meteorology :(

I've learned most of what I know from online weather communities. Textbooks focus heavily on math... stuff like the vorticity equation etc. What interests me personally is practical weather forecasting which most university meteorology departments surprisingly suck at.

I figured you hadn't been instructed in a classroom setting, it's why I asked for your recommendation. I am going to learn it myself, though I want to learn more than just how to forecast the weather.
