General election coming up

I would like to remind everyone that we have just a lil over a week left for campaigning. Though we don't have an election Commish at the moment you can take some initiative, make sure your eligible and post your campaign thread.

Those wishing to run for the Delegacy should take this time to post in the RMB, talk to people on the forum etc.

I will start to inform the people on the RMB in a few days if the announcement isn't in the WFE already. I will also ask Ator, our new Admin, to Mass PM the forum members to remind them about elections. Will also ask him to update the info Box.

Don't complain about inactivity of government or that the same people are holding positions if your not actively participating or stepping up to take on the responsibility of being Delegate, VD etc.

Good luck to everyone!!!

Tres, please read the Election Law before you post about elections.

Law 26 now sets nominations to start on the 1st, and actual voting on the 10th. (And the Delegate may, in advance of the month for election adjust that schedule if there's reason to think that a shift would encourage a higher voter turnout.

We've got one electoral commish; Nam. We can have a max of two, so there's still chance to serve as one if not running for election.

The elected offices are:
  • Delegate
  • Vice Delegate
  • Speaker of the Regional Assembly
  • The Council of Lower Offices/Legal Oversight (depending on the name change vote).

Whoops...my bad...I forgot that passed recently.

Pushing this early helps though. Remember that the past two elections I had to push things earlier in order to make sure we had enough people running. Voter turn out is one thing...having actual people to run is another. Having candidates does come first. We have to account for inactivity as in the past years we had enough active people for positions. It is hard to even get positions with the least amount of responsibility filled (as Syd and I have had to deal with).

I suggested some time ago that we need to adjust for the lack of activity. Law 26, though passed and fine does not take that into account.

I'll make two points:

First, Tres, Law 26 permits the Delegate to adjust the election calendar within the designated month for the election cycle prior to that month if the Delegate feels it would encourage a higher level of participation. We can't be having improvisation at the spur-of-the moment, and expect to have higher levels of participation.

Second, Syd, this subforum should only be for announcements.

I'll let you and Tresville take a crack at sorting this out.
