POTW: Was there ever a "Golden Age"?

I think there was, and I could probably cite examples, but I'm more than willing to do my part to turn this, what we have now, into a golden era of itself.

There was a Golden Age, and it has passed. I am glad you have time and energy to take what we have and make something of it. I wish i had that, I still play NS and will keep playing. But, the excitement and sense of wonderment I once had has faded.

NS is what we make it to be. The more people think the "golden age" is dead and gone the more that will be true. If we progress forward, instead of wishing for the "good old days" then we can find a new experence.

2004. What made it a Golden Age wasn't just the number of active players but the fact there was such a thing a new and original ideas. It's not because of a lack of effort or talent among current players, it's a matter of timing. Someone else simply got there first. Discovering America in 1497 just doesn't have the same impact no matter how worthy the explorers.

Imperial Order of Frith (how many of you remember them?)
Atlantic Alliance
Alliance Defense Network
Sardaukar Defense Confederacy Trust
New Pacific Order
The Meritocracy

When each of these were major players, the first going out shortly after the rest rose to prominence, with their own set of nations (not a lot of overlapping) things were interesting.

There was indeed a golden age- I'd say it was the chaotic interesting period before influence in general, and judging by the stories I've heard, 2004 in particular.

That being said, there's no use in moping around about how you missed your chance at this period. That's just the way MMO games in general are. Instead, you gotta do the best you can with with you got.
