Just read about this and thought it was cool and kinda scary.

. . . the development of a fully operational quantum computer would demolish the concept of national security. Whichever country gets there first will have the ability to eavesdrop on the plans of its enemies. Although still in its infancy, quantum computing presents a potential threat to global security.

While there are more detailed articles out there, this one that Los Alamos Lab put out is probably the most accurate. Basically, this new sort of Quantum encoding is theoretically able to crack any form of digital encryption, be it financial, personal, or national security related.
