Election Commissioners

Tresville

TNPer
SECTION ONE

The election cycle for the 4-month terms of The Delegate, The Speaker of the Assembly, and CLO members, shall begin on the first day of the months of January, May, and September.

Candidates should be posting their interest by the 17th of December. Commissioners should be chosen by this time.

If your interested in being an election commish please post here. I am looking for 2 active members who are not running for any positions. You should be responsible and have good organization skills. Overall...you should be decisive and not easily shaken in the case of an error.

Here are your duties:

1. Interested Candidates in government positions up for election must be verified of their eligibility 7 days after posting their interest in running.

2. You are responsible for making and keeping election deadlines. Unless the constitution, RA or delegate specify otherwise...your deadlines and election procedures are binding and will be upheld by the government.

3. You are responsible for contacting the Speaker to ensure that the list of RA members or eligible voters is up to date prior to the beginning of election.

4. You may choose a subordinate or two to help with anything you need (other than actual vote counting).

5. You must enforce deadlines and make sure that members accepted into the RA past the beginning of the election cycle are not eligible to vote.

6. You are responsible for keeping the Voting booth account organized once you become a commissioner and prior to leaving. You do not have the authority to change the Password on the account. An admin will always check with the proper official prior to giving anyone access to this account.

7. Should your co commissioner go inactive...you are responsible for keeping deadlines and informing the current delegate in order to assign someone else to confirm the vote count.

*note*
To be clear...once elections end...your position ends.

If anyone see's anything I should include or have missed...please PM me. Again...PM don't post. Thanks.

I have asked a Member of The South Pacific and our own Tropical Pixieland if they would take the positions. They will post soon.

Hello TNPers! :)

Tresville and I have spoken, and I am willing to serve as a Commissioner to help tally the votes in the January elections.

I look forward to helping out my old region, and if anyone has any questions, I'm always around!

T. P., you have been provided temporary moderator status to the elections area of the forum. You will be provided the access information for The Voting Booth as well which should be used wheneber possible to make all announcements and for the reciept of votes by PM. (RA voters have the option of posting their votes in the voting threads, or send their votes privately to the Voting Booth.)

I should explain further. Since we had no volunteers who are active members of the forum, one commish will be strictly for tallying and confirming the final votes the other Commishioner will be responsible for everything else.

I do need someone with knowledge of our election process and laws to aid the senior coomish. This role would be simply as an advisor to run things by to make sure everything is done properly.

I would do it myself but people may see this as a conflict of interest since I do intend to run again for the Delegate position.

The commish will officially open the Campaign period soon.

The Election Commission could be incorporated into the Court since the elections for Justices run separately than the elections for other positions the majority of the time.

Unless there is an active trial the Court really doesn't have much to do and should be able to accommodate most of the process, although I can not personally speak for the other Justices at present.

Since you have already arranged an accommodation for this election then perhaps it should be considered for the future.

That is a good idea. The second person I asked has not shown so....if any of the justices are up to it...the more the merrier.

If I can wait until Monday (going out of town this weekend) then I will help, otherwise I can not this go around because it is relatively short notice.

No prob. I'll hold the fort down and get this going. If he doesn't show by then...you can take the spot on Monday.

It would be a bad idea for the Court to be involved in conducting the election. What happens if there's a dispute that requires the full Court to hear the dispute because it involves a question of whether some action was constitutional. That would require a full Court panel, and a Justice acting as election commissioner would create a conflict of interest.

I don't see it as a conflict of interest at all. The EC is meant to make sure the election process proceeds within the confines of the law and the Court is supposedly the final arbitrator and interpretor of the law so the two do go hand in hand.

If there is an error on the part of an EC then it will be seen as such by the Court since all arbitration falls to the Constitution. If the Constitution is not followed then the effects will be clear, as they were last time. The only potential difference is that the Court now will not defer decisions on legality to non-law interpretive bodies.

Also, the Court has established a rule by which a substitute Justice can be named if indeed a conflict of interest exists.

It is a conflict for a Justice to participate in running the election, and then act as a part of a panel to review the legality of his own decision-making. Maybe that's not the case in a kangaroo court, but then that's not the norm here in TNP.

Also, the Court has established a rule by which a substitute Justice can be named if indeed a conflict of interest exists.

What rule? And where is it publicly posted so the citizens of TNP can even see it?

*rollseyes*

Baseless insults are unnecessary and typically beneath you. Simply because not everyone believes the judicial process should include overly verbous statements and long drawn out processes that serve no tangible purpose doesn't make it a kangaroo court.

If a conflict of interests actually presents itself then the Court will handle the issue of its own accord.

That being said, the Court has established its own rules for substitution Justices as a right provided for by the Constitution. The Constitution states nothing of it being public.

But the Bill of Rights requires it to be public:

Bill of Rights Clause 9:
9. Each Nation in The North Pacific is guaranteed the organization and operation of the governmental authorities of the region on fundamental principles of democracy, accountability, and transparency.

Secret procedures are inconsistent with democracy, accountability, and transparency.

It isn't secret, just not public.

That being said, since you feel that your rights are being violated then the Court will happily release the policy.

Let's set a date of Monday, December 22nd for the release date since I will be offline after this evening for the majority of the weekend and not able to address any concerns or questions that might arise.

9. Each Nation in The North Pacific is guaranteed the organization and operation of the governmental authorities of the region on fundamental principles of democracy, accountability, and transparency.

If you're going to consider the judiciary a government authority in regards to this right then it is flawed because the court should not be accountable to the nations of the region but instead to the Constitution. Or maybe I'm just going crazy.

I have learned after half a decade in this region to pick my battles.

The citizen from Grosseschnauzer has proven time and again that mere reason isn't sufficient arguement in the face of dogged personal bias in regards to some so I feel it better just to let him have his hurt feelings and beliefs that his "rights" are impeded by the Court not sharing their decided upon process, which he has no say in whatsoever, than continue to argue over pointless issues.

GM, the problem s your unyeilding refusal to accept and acknowledge the Bill of Rights as a full and equal part of the basic organic laws o The North Pacific.

Every time the Bill of Rights has been voted upon by the voters of the Region, its status as part of the organic fundamental laws of the rgion has been overwhelming affirmed.

You have throughout you time in the this region have expressed your opposition and dislike for what is currently called the Bill of Rights, and you do seem to like to ignore its existence whenever you think you can get away with it.

I will doggedly call for adherence to the Bill of Rights and the Constitution whenever and whereever necessary as a member of the Regonal Assembly and as a citizen of The North Pacific. This is no difference for me whether I have occupied an office in the regional governmental authorities in the past or not, and I don't need to hold an office to demand adherence to our organic laws, whether in general or in specific circumstances.

Umm, that is just not true. I would ask that you attempt some form of substantiation of that claim but since I know that you can not there is little point.

Oh but don't you see? Anyone in a job formerly vacated by Grosse must do things as he has done. Or else we're anti-democratic/anti-Constitution/anti-bill-of-rights/pro-puppy-kicking. He can quit, he can be voted out, but oh no we're all entitled to serve as he would. We're just keeping the seat warm for him really.

And isn't that democratic and in the spirit of the North Pacific?

Grosse, if you feel that Ivan has not served to protect the laws of this region in any way then you can try and impeach him if you feel there is a basis for it. Making allegations really isnt too helpful. Ivan has been elected to stand by and protect those laws just as you proclaim to and I have no reason to believe he won't do so.

i think we need to split this thread.

A call was made for people to help out as election commmissioners.

I am answering that call and am wiling to help :ADN:

sorry, i misunderstood cisco :P i thought i didn't need to post here after I agreed.
mea culpa

Mavenu and Ivan will be running the elections and making sure every member is eligible. TP will help them Tally the votes at the end.

I am back.

Thank you for your patience, Mr. Delegate. I will verify the eligibility of all candidates tonight and post the validity of the currently listed 39 RA members as well.
