Government Officials
Consul: The Senator from Cortath
Praetor: The Senator Amie Free of Balanvinsk
Archon Praefectus to the Meritocratic Isles: The Senator from Valle de Mexico
Lenitor Fabulae: The Senator Prince Justin of Eureka
Legatus: The Senator from Tresville

From the previous Legatus The Senator Robert Stewart Salisbury from Scandinavian Duchies

Brevity has never been a quality loudly espoused by us verbose Senators of the Meritocracy.  Yet, fitting in with the pleasantly surprising theme of our rebirth as an active organization dedicated to and predicated upon the government of the meritorious, I shall be brief.  The Senate has returned, and with the Consul from Cortath at our helm, we have quickly found once more what it is that sets the Meritocracy apart, as a community of able individuals rapidly expands and draws the best minds from the international community.

As should be evident to the reader, the diplomatic corps of the Senate has been reestablished, and ambassadors are therefore at hand to provide any further information you might desire as to the nature of Meritocratic government, community, foreign policy, etc.

Recent News:
- The Senator from Cortath has remained Consul after 7 Tallies. Congrats to him!

- More than a handful of applicants have been accepted into the senate halls. However, just as many could not survive the application process.

- The IRC #Merit on Espernet has tripled in size and has had a few ex senators stop in to say hello.

The Senator from Moldavi is now the Twenty-Sixth Consul of the Meritocracy. He is succeeding the Senator from Cortath, first Consul of the Pact Senate.

The Consul has announced his cabinet:

Lenitor Fabulae: Prince Justin the Terrible, of Eureka
Praetor: Senatrix Amie Free, of Balanvinski
Tribune: Queen Jella Punk, of Big D Baby

Legate to NationStates: Lord Vilius Romanov, of Halmont
Quaestor to NationStates: King Gabriel Indarion, of Shasarazade

Legatus Ikarius: The Senator from Cortath
Quaestor Ikarius: Senator Leon Trotsky, of The Prophet Armed
Lictor Ikarius: Senator Cisco, of Tresville

Though the usual summer lull has affected most regions, The Meritocracy has continued its regular activity without a pause.

Moldavi remains consul after the 12th Senate Tally and his popularity has not dwindled.

During the 11th Tally we had 27 Senators. We now have 30 and 3 more have recently applied.

We also have 4 regions being represented in our forum. These regions now have embassies: Gatesville, Great Britain and Ireland, Equilism and The Pacific.

Haor Chall seeks to reinvigorate the Senate

This past week the Senator from Haor Chall was able to 'wrestle' the Consulship from the Senator from The Prophet Armed. Haor Chall stated:
If we want it, there are challenges out there. To rebuild the Senate as something of significance would be a challenge. It would not be easy, hopefully it could be fun. In many ways it may be similar to the challenges we have faced before, in some ways different. But one fundamental is that the Senate can no longer rely on its old reputation. Nobody outside of these walls cares about what happened in the Accords, or the Charter. That has no relevance to our standing now. It can be done. The question is, do we want to? If we do, the challenges await us.

Challenges certainly await this consul and his new administration. For many weeks the Senate has been mired in inactivity. There have been stops and starts and stops again. Many Senators have either resigned or been expelled and the Senate is certainly in its most precarious position. However, the new Consul seems convinced that the Meritocracy can regain its relevance within the NationStates world and its members still have much to offer.

The Meritocracy reestablishes international ties

This week the Meritocracy established embassies within all of the feeders. Quaestor (foreign minister) Maximus Punk II of Big D Baby is quoted:
The Meritocracy has deep ties with almost all of Feeder regions and many player created regions. In our attempt to reintroduce ourselves to the world, we would like to again establish ties with larger regions. Many have stated that NationStates is dead, but for many of us, we continue to believe that our community is still alive and well. The Meritocracy is very interested to get further acquainted with the politics of the day and contribute wherever possible.

Interested in becoming a part of the Meritocracy?

The Meritocracy has always been the place where leaders from various NationStates regions have come to enjoy lively debate, challenge their political skills, and influence the larger NationStates world. If that's something you're interested in please take a look at our current governmental system, The Pact, and also see our application guidelines.
