La Mafia - A Little History

Before La Mafia's Reestablishment, La Mafia was once a sprawling region with an amazing growth rate. La Mafia was established May 22, 2007, and within a week its population was over sixty nations. La Mafia continued to grow at this rate, its mafia-theme driving it forward at an amazing rate. By the end of June, La Mafia had over two hundred nations and was still growing. One would assume that such a region would have had amazing forum activity, but sadly La Mafia always fought a hard battle trying to increase forum activity. By Mid-July, La Mafia had reached about two hundred fifty nations, and was beginning to branch out. La Mafia began creating relations with other regions such as Great Britain and Ireland, Europeia, and The DEN. It was at about this time when La Mafia fell. Their founder, Don Corleone, had a few priorities in real life, and the region's government wasn't stable enough to stand by itself. La Mafia fell and would slowly shrink over the next six months. On December 15, 2007 La Mafia was reestablished, and Don Corleone returned.

La Mafia's Reestablishment

La Mafia was reestablished on December 15, 2007. Since then we've had our deal of 'bumps in the road' and luckily the most of them are over with. Our original goal was to have two hundred nations within our region by the New Year. Obviously, that didn't happen. With all of the hustle and bustle of the holidays such a goal was quite frankly, out of reach. Not only was La Mafia inactive due to the holidays, but NationStates was as well so recruiting wasn't as productive. This time around, La Mafia's plan is to grow quickly (not as quick as its original establishment), but to mainly focus on Forum Activity.

Government

Currently, La Mafia's government isn't established due to a lack of people to fill government positions. Under La Costituzione Della Mafia, our constitution, La Mafia's government is to be a Parliamentary Monarchy. Although, our government is currently functioning as a monarchy to create stability, organization, and unity. For more information over our government, you may read our Constitution.

The Judiciary

La Mafia's Judiciary has been established and we have our five judges chosen. Due to the lack of forum activity, as well as the lack of people within our forum, Don Corleone has been appointing positions within our government instead of following the traditional way set out in our constitution. We have already been able to put our Judiciary to use in the case: Sci&Faith vs La Mafian Government.

Judiciary's First Case

Our Judiciary has held its first successful case. This case is the Sci&Faith vs La Mafian Government. The trial began on December 28, 2007 and was resolved on January 1, 2008. Within this case, The Prosecutor was The La Mafian Government, and The Defense was Sci&Faith. This case concerned Sci&Faith's giving away confidential information, breaking La Mafia's Foreign Policy, and breaking his agreement within his application for citizenship. The five judges unanimously voted Sci&Faith guilty to the charge. His punishment was two weeks suspension from the forum, a stripping of all government powers, and a one month probation period after his suspension in which he isn't able to involve himself in government dealings. On January 4, 2008, The Godfather of La Mafia, Don Corleone, shortened Sci&Faith's sentence and ended his suspension on the 4th, and his probation began. For more information, join our forum.

Our New Forum

La Mafia is proud to announce its new Invision Power Board 2.3.3 located at www.nslamafia.org. We switched forums on January 2, 2008 and are still adjusting to the new change. We have finished much of the forum, but are still finishing the government portion and how it will be organized. We currently have forums devoted to general discussion, games and the like. Feel free to stop by if you like.

New Alliance

La Mafia is proud to announce its newly established alliance with Europeia! The treaty passed on January 4, 2008. Our hope is that this treaty will help La Mafia and Europeia to become very close, and eventually create an even tighter alliance. As La Mafia is currently running as a monarchy, this treaty won't be run through our Legislative Council, it will only need to be approved by The Godfather.

Tom-Ordimus Ordeal

As many know, Tom or Ordimus nuked the forums of Libertia. He was held trial at many different regions, and at the majority banned. Tom was a member of La Mafia, and for some time, was La Mafia's Primo Ministro or Prime Minister. The Position of Primo Ministro, held no power at the time and still doesn't as our region is being run as a monarchy under The Godfather - Don Corleone. Don Corleone wasn't aware of these circumstances until after they had occurred. The La Mafian Government had no dealings with this forum nuking and does not support it whatsoever. After the nuking of the Libertian Forums, Tom continued to be housed within our forums and region. Many other regions did not look positively upon this. His reason for his continued housing within La Mafia was that he is a close of Don Corleone and a friend of Don Corleone within real life. Tom is the reason Don Corleone began NationStates and if it weren't for him, La Mafia wouldn't exist today. As you can see, La Mafia didn't house Tom to support his nuking of Libertia, it housed Tom for many a reason and the most important: His being Don Corleone's best friend. This case was much more delicate than most other regions first took it to be. Tom has recently quit NationStates altogether, as he couldn't do anything due to the extreme amount of bannings within foreign regions. La Mafia has banned Tom in order to create a seal and prove to other regions that we don't support this sort of dealing.

La Mafia would like to formally apologize for what happened to Libertia and we would like to formally state that The La Mafian Government didn't and doesn't support what occurred.

Political Parties

As of Feb/01/08 political parties in La Mafia will be able to be established. The prerequisites for a political party are filling out an application and having at least 6 other active forum members backing it. With political parties introduced, La Mafia is one step closer to a better democracy.

Upcoming Elections

La Mafia has never had its first election yet, but as of March/01/08 the first election will take place. It will definitely be interesting to see how campaigns will go and what electoral traditions will be started with this first election. This day will be marked as the day that La Mafia moves away from Monarchy and into Democracy.

Governmental Positions Filled

All of the positions in La Mafia’s government have been filled. Don Vito Corleone used his emergency powers to appoint all positions in La Mafia to jump start the region’s development and activity. This has worked very well, and La Mafia’s activity has hit a new level.

Legislative Council in Full Swing

After the appointments of governmental positions, many new bills have been introduced and debated on in the Senate. All of the bills have been made to spike activity and help take work off of the Godfather of La Mafia. With the Senate came much more activity in La Mafia now that everyone has a place in the region.

The First Prime Minister

Prime Minister Stratus was announced the first Prime Minister under La Mafia’s new government. He was appointed by The Godfather under his emergency powers however has made the point that though he was not elected, he has the will of the people at heart. He recently introduced the first State of The Empire Address hoping to outline his goals and duties in office. He went on to say that he hoped that every Prime Minister would create this outline every few weeks to let the public know what they were up to. There is currently a bill being proposed to make The State of the Empire Address mandatory for all Prime Ministers.

New Constitution

The Godfather spent four days writing a new Constitution for La Mafia. The brand new Constitution more clearly outlines the duties and responsibilities of each branch of government, and rivals the US Constitution in length. With this new guideline to La Mafian politics, activity, creativity, and supremacy are expected to spike in the region. Download Constitution Here


The New Military

The new Military of La Mafia is up and running. With ideas never used by any other region before, it is expected that La Mafia will be a very powerful entity with this new force. The new military consists of The Air Force, The Navy, and The Standing Army.

The La Mafian Empire

With Imperial Order 0001, La Mafia was announced an Empire by Don Vito Corleone on Jan/23/08. The Order was signed by Prime Minister Stratus and The Godfather. Under this Order, La Mafia has established two Commonwealths which are expected to be worked on soon. The two Commonwealths are Democritium and Brooklyn.

The Mandatory Recruitment Bill

The Mandatory Recruitment Bill was finally passed in La Mafia on Jan/30/08. This bill outlines that all government officials must go on X amount of recruitment runs per week to maintain their jobs. After much debate, the punishments for not doing so have been lowered substantially however. This bill is expected to spike the on-going growth of La Mafia and its Commonwealths, and will take much more work off of the Godfather.

Weekly Citizen Honors

From here forward, I will be beginning each Foreign Update with recognition of an outstanding citizen. This bi-month, we of La Mafia see fit to honor ToraErulastiel, a member of our Judicial Council and a Senator for her ongoing loyalty to the region. One of the first members and definitely one of the most loyal. She has overcome great tragedy (such as the incident in our Pirate RolePlay) and has come out against attempted bribery. This week, we honor thee, Tora.

Bi-Monthly Interview
From here forward as well, each edition will include an interview with someone registered on the forums. For this edition, we recognize a foreign ambassador from Europeia, Pineapleboy. To give a sample, we asked Pineapleboy many questions, including interesting answers, like his constant obsession with the online MMORPG, RuneScape. Following this update, the interview will be posted.

Yet another Scandal!?

That’s right. Another scandal in La Mafia’s forums. However, it involves neither Tom, Sci&Faith, but our great Chancellor, Noah, a soldier, Blink, and a senator, Tora. Noah, the Chancellor of La Mafia, was voting against the Mandatory Recruiting Bill, and supposedly asked Blink to try and persuade Tora to vote against this. Tora came out against this and proceedings are currently at a stand still.

Elections Update

After the announcement of the elections this March, some important people have announced their candidacy. For senate, we have Blink, the Don, Spectre, and Drumman running. Drumman seeks to regain his spot as Minister of Internal Affairs. Sci&Faith wants to take the Cultural Secretary spot for his own. The Don wants to be the Grand Commandant, and Matlack, Blink, Spectre, and Drumman seek the Judge positions.

Mandatory Recruitment Controversy

This bill passed by an incredibly low margin. This has sparked a lot of controversy, especially because almost the entire government will be up for possible suspension the first week in. Some people find it incredibly punitive on the people, and some have even protested to a point of leaving their important positions. This is a huge issue with La Mafia, as its forums have never been so quiet in its entire existence.

Asteroids… AK47s… Poker… and Lira?
Yep, that’s right! The La Mafian Department of Commerce and the La Mafian Department of Immigration have worked together to bring citizens and ambassadors alike a fun experience with a La Mafian Arcade, Battle Shop, Casino, and a Bank. It is likely that there will be wages for jobs performed in La Mafia as well. At the moment, they’ve been an absolute hit, with Mr Saturn being the clear frontrunner in the arcade. In the battle area, guilds are allowed. Because of how the money is not yet set for inflation, buying a guild is like going down to the nearest gas station and buying a pop.

The Civilian Protection Party
Matlack, myself, has recently formed a new left-leaning party known as the Civilian Protection Party, or CPP. The party is formed to oppose the conservative government party and to support the recently-in-the-news civilian’s rights.

The Federal Conservative Party
Moments after the announcement of the CPP, the Godfather renamed and reformed his party, the newly named Federal Conservative Party, to try to meet the high standards of the CPP.

2. When I was in sixth grade, I had a friend named Rory. We liked to talk about random things, and one of those things was the origin of the pineapple. After that went on for a while, he once called me Pineapple-boy, and I quite liked the name

6. This is true, but the answer was derived by analysis of the better defined the 1-Lord Alphaneisa scale, Lord Alphanesia being about equivalent to 15. Since, on a 1-10 scale, LA scores about a 10 and an odious fiend would only score about a 6.66, we can deduce by extrapolation that Odious fiend is the equivalent of 10 on this variant scale, though this is just a theory.

32. This all just a matter of symbolism. The towel represents the Cold-war era Iron Curtain, in which the Soviet Union and Eastern Europe was encompassed. The coconuts represent the Communists. Though they have ideas that are great in theory, the milk and meat of the coconut, that has been encompassed in a hard, rough exterior, which really forms the identity of the seed. The Dog, which is much bigger and more powerful, represents the capitalists leaders, who were in control despite being less in number. The appearance of the fourth coconut represents the Communist uprising, when they gained greater support and, both literally and figuratively, killed the capitalist leadership, thereby taking control of the "towel."

Also, judging by the characterization of the Capitalists as "dogs" one would assume that the inventer of this seemingly simple scenario had a particular pro-Communist bent
