Feeder Unity

A lofty goal, we'll all admit, but I believe a giant MDP would be workable in today's climate. Something that says "We won't step on your toes, and we'll get your back if you're invaded". I think it's time we stopped pretending we'll eventually all get along, and start trying to just work together when we need to.

After all, feeders are siblings.

Comments, critiques and questions welcome.

A lofty goal, but I'm not sure if every other feeder cares enough. Besides, you can't not mix politics in. I'd be rather cautious about unconditional military support that doesn't take context into account.

Back on 21 August, I recieved the following message from Dezzland:

Schnauz,
I've been trying to organize a feeder summit. There is much to discuss since the last time we met (18 months ago). Kandarin and the Pacific have already signed on.
~Dezz

I sent thr following reply:
Dezz, at the moment I am merely a regional assembly member and a member of the TNP Security Council, and elections are underway. If you are asking me as a private citizen, I have no problem with the idea.
At the momemnt, Upper Kirby is the outgoing Prime Minister, and Emperor Matthuis is the outgoing Minister of External Affairs.  You might want to approach them if you re looking for an official government participation.
It's hard to say who will be elected, since a number of the positions are contested this time.
But if I am being asked to participate as a private citizen, I would likely attend.
schnauzers

Dezzland then reaponded with:
I've Pmed EM two days ago but he is awful when it comes to realizing he has messages. My hope is that you will discuss this with those appropriate. I think the procedure we are going to have is that the leader of a Feeder and one appointed official (Defense Minister, Foreign Affairs Minister), to be part of the procedings.

So I am relaying Dezzland's request given we have a new Prime Minister and a new Minister of External Affairs.

I'm not sure what would be accomplished at a feeder summit, but I'm not opposed to the idea of what, if only to see what people have to say. However, I'm not sure the environment is all that good right now for feeder level agreements. The Pacific hasn't behaved all that well towards us in the last few months (and they'd probably say the same thing), and I have to admit to a certain level of disappointment with TWP's recent diplomatic faux paus where we're concerned (as in their treatment of a treaty proposal that was about ready for submission when I left office only to learn that TWP sent their diplomatic messages to Dalimbar rather than to Upper Kirby or Emperor Matthuis); as well as the hoof-in-mouth syndrome during the Affair d'Dalimbar. So it is a fair question to ask what area of common topical groundwork there would be for a feeeder-wide agreement.

Considering what has happened with both The Pacific and TWP in recent months I'm fairly cautious about anything like this. Dezz is in Lazarus IIRC? If they do organise this and get everyone onboard then we will attend. LV if you could get in contact with Dezzland and see what's going on that would be good.

:(

That's not true, I did reply on the Lazarus forum the next day.

But anyway, the problem I had with Dezz was that he wanted to discuss Addarow and the whole Forum Destruction thing, and I didn't consider it (especially Addarow, who is just a loser) important enough to be discussed at a feeder summit.

Considering the lack of help we received from other feeders during the whole Dali thing, I doubt we could acheive feeder unity, not that it wouldn't be a good thing though.

I was most disappointed recently when Dali went rogue, and the response of the MOEA of the WEst Pacific was less than supportive: in fact, he seemed more intent on lecturing us than helping us. And the West is the feeder to which we have traditionally been closest.

Plus we have the accusations from Dalimbar that Moo Cows was long ago trying to get him to go rogue in TNP - an accusation I give more credit to than the counter-accusation that Dalimbar is lying.

I think a feeder summit would work OK if we know what it is aiming to achieve. Meetings for the sake of meetings are pointless, so the argument "we have not met in a while" is pretty irrelevant to me.

I also think a MDP would fall over when we have a situation of civil war: Who would a MDP support? The constitutional government or the delegate?

Lecturing? It seemed to me he was blatantly interfering in our internal affairs. Either way it was unwelcome, and was not constructive.

This thread adds to the stacks of evidence that the feeders will never be best chums. That said, we're all professionals, and we all have to work under the same circumstances.

Given that all feeders were created equal in the eyes of Max, we should at least have a working relationship and a treaty which would extent protection to our sister in the event that they are attacked. It would require us all putting our differences aside long enough to recognise our governments as official, but that is something I think would be reasonably easy to achieve.

It is about time we started viewing our fellow feeders as distant relations. We may not keep them close to our heart but they are our family.

Since I'm not making myself clear, I'll expand upon my ideas.
  • A Feeder-wide mutual defence pact, which gives each feeder means to involve itself in the defence of its sister.
  • Either a treaty or a gentleman's agreement that states we shall not actively pursue intelligence information from each other. Passive intelligence is fine, but we should remove all our moles from each other and start working on a little trust
  • Clear means with which to combine military efforts. A plan of attack should any of our sisters be invaded, or coup'd.
  • Pan-feeder recognition of sitting governments and terms which make the treaty void should a government change without unconditional support from the other feeders.
What we would not be doing is forming an alliance, agreeing to their foreign policies or stiffling debate between the feeders.

I see a few problems with this.

Firstly The Pacific would most likely support any regime change that would be favourable to it.

The East and South Pacifics are fairly neutral, I tried contacting various members of The South Pacific during my term, but was met with general apathy or unreplied PMs. The East is better, but with Kangarawa (their MoEA) no longer around, and Gnidrah being more favourable to The Pacific, it would be difficult.

I think I'd be able to get the Pacific to agree to this, assuming the wording is correct. As to the apathy of other feeders? I think I can sell the benefits to them on some level. It doesn't really require them to do anything other than not invade us.

As for the military side, neither The South or East Pacifics maintain armies.

Also, will you be inviting The Rejected Realms and Lazarus?

That's fine.

I'm suspect we would be speaking to Lazarus and TRR, but I am aware that they would be more likely to require our assistance.

As I've said to you, I have no interest in holding a summit or something here. Our focus needs to primarily be internal this term. If you want to talk with the heads of the other feeders and see what you can come up with I don't have a problem with that.

The NPO is allied with CLT, an invader organization. Do we want to have a MDP with a feeder allied with invaders (and raids with said invaders, according to Darkesia)? Founderless invader regions have a history of being invaded themselves, obviously.

Further, Equilism already has their military stationed in the Pacific endorsing Moo. Frankly I don't want the NPA to end up in the same situation as the E-Army, bogged down in the Pacific just because Moo is too busy with Cybernations to endoswap.
