Monte Ozarka for AG and SC

Hello all. Some of y'all have known me for a while, and others have only known me for a few short months. I hope that during that time, I have come across as an intelligent, moderate voice of reason. It is on precisely those credentials that I come before you today as a candidate for the Security Council and the position of Attorney General.

If you elect me, you can count on few, if any, earth-shattering reforms from the AG's office. Of course, the AG is not the place for reform. It should, instead, be a place where dependability, vigilance, and adherence to the law should be respected. I promise this to you.

I promise not to allow cases to idle and stagnate, at least for my part. I promise that I shall push the legal processes as fast as they may go. I promise no biased judgment before the law. However, I also promise that I will be merciful towards honest mistakes. I abide by the principle that the swift, brutal hammer of legal judgment may not be the best course of action for all situations.

In short, I promise to carry out the duties of AG efficiently and with as much merit as is in me.

--------------------

I am, of course, running again for a seat in the Security Council. Over this past term, I have carried out my duties faithfully and have given my opinion and voted in a timely manner on the great majority (if not all) of the issues that have come before the SC. I bring an intelligent, dependable, and cool head to the table.

Thus, I ask for your vote yet again during these elections for more continued good service.

--------------------

Since Dalimbar and constitutional reform are the hot-button issues of the day, I figured that I should speak on it a little bit.

Dalimbar is in the wrong. That is undeniable. He has betrayed our trust and acted most contrary to our democratic spirit.

However, I agree with him in that I think constitutional reform has long been overdue. I most certainly do not approve of his methods, but the shock of his actions have awoken us from our apathetic stupor. "Meh, good enough" is no longer good enough. We are confronted with a need to change, and we should meet it head-on, and as much on our own terms as possible.

You may have guessed from my recent words and legislative activity that I may be counted as a "reformist". I personally believe that the government needs to be more stream-lined, with an executive that is capable of rapid action. However, I believe that a firm and effective system of checks and balances must also be in place. I believe that our system of government should grant our elected officers enough free rein over the powers needed to exercise their duties. We as citizens should be vigilant, but we should not accept a system in which any power in the hands of an individual is inherently distrusted.

I support a high degree of government reform, as is apparent in my draft of a proposal for a new government structure. However, I know that others think differently, and though I will try to convince you of how great my system is, I will not push it upon you. If you have your own ideas, I urge you to bring out your ideas into the public sphere. Only with public sharing of ideas can we decide where and in what way we should alter our governing structure to best fit the needs of the region. (P.S. No matter what, I insist that whatever changes that are made be effected through the channels that our current Constitution provides.)

I now stand for whatever on-topic or off-topic questioning you may throw at me.

What's with the penguin? I've always wanted to ask, but kept forgetting. :P
I'm pretty sure this is how it goes:

Way back when on s2 during times of peace, happiness, and lollipops, I decided to change my avatar. Didn't know which one to pick, though, so I threw up the candidates in a poll in the OOC. I'm pretty sure the penguin won. And I've pretty much stuck with it since then.

EM:
If no cases arose during your time in office, how would you feel?

I'd feel perfectly fine. The power to pursue justice shouldn't be arbitrarily wielded. The AG mandate requires me to not simply prosecute cases but only worthy cases. If nothing comes up, then all the better.
