Apology to the NPO

Might as well start drafting one. We're going to issue one at some point in time.

so that the NPO won't eat us:
We, The North Pacific's Cabinet, apologize to the government and people of the New Pacific Order for the disturbance and trouble that a NPIA operative caused on your forums and territory. We assure you that this operation was conducted outside of normal procedures by an official acting outside of the TNP government's authorization and in no way represents hostile intent from the TNP government. We here in TNP pledge ourselves to maintaining good and peaceful relations with our fellow feeder brothers and sisters and hope that this unfortunate occurrence will not irreparably damage relations between our two regions.

Given the nature of this incidence, we will soon be taking a very good look at NPIA procedures and oversight and implement any amendments as necessary.

Thank you for your patience.

Pick away at it.

Amended:

Bullshit. It we don't at least acknowledge that it was a NPIA operation the NPO are not going to buy it and we are back at square one.

I don't care about your damn trial and the charges against Mesian, we can have a new one with new charges. We need to do this right or not do it at all.

Not good enough MO, and here is my revision:

We, The Cabinet of The North Pacific, apologizes to the government and people of the New Pacific Order for the disturbance and trouble that a member of the NPIA has caused in your forums and territory. We assure you that this operation was conducted outside of normal procedures by several members acting outside of the TNP government's authorization and oversight and in no way represents hostile intent by, or any policy of, from The North Pacific. We here in TNP pledge ourselves to maintaining good and peaceful relations with our fellow feeder brothers and sisters and hope that this unfortunate occurrence will not irreparably damage relations between our two regions.

Given the nature of this incidence, we will be taking a very good look at NPIA procedures and oversight and implement any amendments as necessary. (This shows that we are committed to making sure nothing like this happens again which would actually be a positive step for our image and integrity.)

Thank you for your patience.

And thank MO for getting the ball rolling.

I agree and hence why I posted my version of the apology above. This was an NPIA op, they know it and we know it and so does anyone else who has been watching. There is no sense in hiding that at this point. It only makes us look even worse.

Look, you can apologize for kidnapping the Lindbergh baby for all I care. Hell, let's call it an NPA operation while we are at it - Mesian was a member of that, and we all suspect their motives as well. But the utility of tossing a quasi-governmental agency under the bus, regardless of how happy it will make our Pacifican overlords, seems suspect at best, and, at worst, merely highlights the ineptitude they are so happy to attribute to our governmental oversight.

And the "and we're changing this so it never happens again, naughty NPIA" just pushes the line a bit too far into pandering for my liking. Especially when the people writing the apology do not, directly, have any authority to enforce those changes.

But hey, whatever, makes you sleep better.

We then if we don't have the direct authority to make changes then why don't we charge this task to the people who do? I agree with Byardkuria, this apology should not come from us; it should come from the NPIA directly.

BS, that would be like admitted that they have authority over us.

I like Byard's revision. The NPIA operation was because of Hersfold, and not under government observation. Since we had no knowledge of it, there is only so much responsibility we can take. There's a new director of the NPIA and Mesian is on trial.

We should tweak Byard's to reflect that, whilst we are aware we fucked up, stress it was not a sanctioned operation and we (the TNP government) do not (officially, anyway) agree with the intentions or the acts.

Vitrionia has caught the gist of my revision - I have nothing against an apology*, but it shouldn't seem as though we (the government of TNP) were naughty, either by act or policy. There is nothing to indicate that anyone aside from Mesian or Hersfold knew or approved of this - we can certainly apologize for the acts of our citizens, but when they are operating without the knowledge or consent of the government, there is no reason for the government to express culpability.

* I actually support one - there's no reason to make any more of an interregional incident than we already have, and, since it was a TNP citizen, it is ultimately our responsibility to fix any damage caused to our relationship, regardless of where blame lies for the act.

I like Byard's proposal, we need to apologize for Mesian's actions but stress that this is not a sanctioned policy by the North Pacific government.

As a side-note apologies for my lack of participation in this issue, I have been away since the weekend so couldn't contribute until now. When we get some sort of consensus on the issue, then either myself or the Prime Minister can present it to the Emperor of The Pacific.

Oh hell's bells, if everyone supports Byard's proposal then I'll back it just to get thus thing over with but, huff puff, if they bitch at us later because we pulled the whole "NPIA operative" thing out of the apology let it be known I told you so.

They're going to bitch anyway. I suspect we'll hear about this for some time to come.

We do what they ask up to an extent and try to move forward. We should probably send some sexy diplomatic love to them as well. Soothe their egos for a bit.

A friendly face is always good at putting things on a back-burner.

Ministers, I first would like to state my appreciation for there actually being a productive discussion on this.

In light of this incident, we intend to investigate and implement any changes necessary to prevent such incidents from occurring in the future.

Thank you for your patience.

As you see, the recommendations above are a mixture of the suggestions of MO and Byard, with some additions. If it is necessary to explain the reasoning for the changes, well, you know I'll be here.

They're talking of shutting down their embassies, which as we all should know will only gone one way.

I apologise, but I took it upon myself to suggest to Darkesia that we both create delegations (I remember UK mentioning he was hiring for one) to discuss this away from the general public of both sides. It would be a black day if the feeders begin to drift apart again.

Out of interest, do we have a timeline on getting this apology out

I like Dalimbar's revisions.

Like Blue Wolf, I think that we need to acknowledge that it was NPIA but stress that it was an unauthorized op.

We should really speed this along.

As long as we emphasize that, while Mesian was an NPIA agent on an NPIA mission (targeted elsewhere), the act was not sanctioned by any government agency, it works for me.

If I may say so myself, I want to see the statement (don't care what version, you guys sort it out) out by Monday. That means Cabinet Ministers, please pick a version, vote on it, give it to the Prime Minister who will then go to the NPO boards and present it to them probably in our embassy (or whatever you lot find appropriate). This frankly has taken far too long, and is embarrassing. If they do however bitch and whine about what we say *after* we present the message to them, they will look like the bad guys.

Any apology should be conditional. There is no point in releasing an apology publically if they are going to spit in our faces. I would suggest talking with them first.

Attempts at talking were made (over there and here), and generally met with cold shoulders. I'm fixing to lock this thread at this point.

How about this:

1) Apologise, briefly.
2) Close our Embassies
3) Make the following people personae non gratae: New Kackface (or whatever) & Agamemnon
4) Profit.

We're not going to win against this whining little kids, so we should just stop trying. After thinking about it, I can't imagine anything we've got to lose if we concentrate on making friends with the other feeders for a while.

Sir, your ideas intrigue me, and I wish to subscribe to your newsletter.

Okay, so it kinda pissed me off when they did that warrant thing. I get a bit tetchy when people start trying to bring what passes for justice over there to my door.

Agreed, Minister.

We don't benefit from this relationship with them at the minute, and the attitude of the lower ranking members on our forums irks me. Perhaps it would be better to cut them lose and look at relations when things are a little less hostile.
