Winter Vacationers

President Ted Nicholson was rellaxing in his office. It had been a hard campaign, but he had beaten the opposition party. He thought back to how it had all started.
When Ted was a child, there was no "Winter Vacationers". The territory now known by that name had been conquered long ago by the nation known as Romanar. There was a love/hate relationship between the Romanarians and the native people. Romanar was a rich, powerful nation and had greatly helped the natives ecnomically. However there were real problems politically. Though Romanar was officially a representitive republic, there was considerable corruption, and to a large extent it was more a plutocracy than a true democracy, and since the Winterians were somewhat poor, they got the short end of the stick.
There had been tension for some time, but the bovine fertilizer really hit the fan about the time Ted turned 30. The President of Romanar, Jack Logan, had been treating its southern territory very heavy-handedly, and the south finally sturck back. The resulting civil war didn't directly affect Winter Vacationers, but when the south broke free, that gave them ideas. A few yers later, during a period of chaos in Romanar, the people of Winter Vacations, led by Ted, demanded their freedom. Militarily, WV was no match for Romanar, but the Romanarians were fed up with war, and then-President Jill Jackson granted WV its freedom. The territory had long been a "winter Vacation" spot, and the name stuck.
