Over the past couple of days, the UK has been hit by a spate of letter bombings. Luckily so far no one has been killed, and the injuries caused seem not to be life threatening. Early on there were reports that there might be an animal liberation link to them (due to what now appears to be a separate campaign going on at a local level in Oxfordshire), but now it seems to be some grudge against motoring regulations. The first targeted the company that runs the London congestion charging, the second the accountancy firm of a speed camera provider, and today the Driver and Vehicle Licensing Authority's HQ in Swansea. Obviously the only hope is that whoever is responsible is caught quickly...

There isn't really much discussion to be had on the topic, but the BBC coverage caught my eye, largely because of:

emphasis mine:
John O'Connor, a former Metropolitan Police commander, said that whoever was behind the attacks seemed to know what they were doing.

It was a person "of reasonably high intelligence" because of the required skill in making the devices, he said.

"This, for me, has got all the hallmarks of somebody that has become deranged over something."

Genius...

You have to love the Government's ability to state the obvious at times. Hopefully they find who's behind this. Letter bombs are a scary thing.
