Court Justice Confirmation Discussion

Please post discussion of the nomination of Poltsamaa for Associate Justice (to complete the remaining three months of Democratic Donkeys' term as Associate Justice) in this thread. A separate voting thread for the confirmation vote will be placed in the Voting Forum, as is the usual practice on Court nominations.

Voting will open at Midnight, Saturday January 13, 2007 (7:00 p.m. Friday January 12 2007 EST, 4:00 pm PST) and will end at 11:59 pm GMT Friday January 19, 2007 (6:59pm EST/3:59pm PST). A quorum of the Regional Assembly is required to participate in the referendum.

Oh, and just so its clear!! Regardless of the result of the RA vote, I'll still be retained as defense attorney for Fulhead Land!!

Just in case that was the reasoning behind this "out of left field" nomination!! ;)

I think Polts will be able to fulfill both positions admirably. His experience with the judicial system puts him in a unique position to contribute toward improving the practical workings of the court.

If Grosse had not let me know he was nominating you I was going to suggest it. I want you on my Justice Team.

LOL! Wouldn't even be a conflict of interest unless you are the sitting judge for a case you are arguing. :lol:

...now about those parking tickets...

You'll make a good judge, Poltsy!

So there's no misunderstanding:
  • I sought public input from the Cbinet and the Regional Assembly for suggestions concerning the Court opening as soon as Byardkuria announced his retirement when his term ends;
  • I sent private messages to a long list of folks who i thought could qualify to serve on the Court, including Poltsamaa; he was one of those who responded with an expression of interest;
  • I solicited feedback privately from the Cabinet of a short list of potential nominees, which included Poltsamma on that list;
  • I received suggestions concerning the Court vacancy some of whom suggested that Poltsamaa be considered.
In other words, Poltsamaa was considered for nomination on the merits with several others, and based on my decision to nominate Democratic Donkeys for Chief Justice.

As to the trial of Fulhead Land, I would hope that it would conclude at some point before the terms of both Associate Justices expire at the end of April.
