This site is working to establish a new list of the Seven Wonders of the World, since all but one of the original list has been destroyed through war, nature, or the ravages of time. You can register to vote (they require an e-mail addy, for some silly reason) and pick your top seven. The winners will be announced in Lisbon on July 7th, 2007 (7/7/07).

The ballot includes:
  • The Acropolis, Athens, Greece
  • Alhambra Palace, Granada, Spain
  • The Temple of Angkor Wat, Cambodia
  • The Pyramid of Chichén Itzá, Mexico
  • The Statue of Christ Redeemer, Rio De Janeiro, Brazil
  • The Coliseum, Rome, Italy
  • The Easter Island Statues, Easter Island, Chile
  • Eiffel Tower, Paris, France
  • The Great Wall of China
  • Hagia Sophia, Istanbul, Turkey
  • Kiyomizu Temple Complex, Kyoto, Japan
  • The Kremlin/St. Basil's Cathedral, Moscow, Russia
  • Machu Picchu, Peru
  • Neuschwanstein Castle, Füssen, Germany
  • The City of Petra, Jordan
  • The Pyramids of Giza, Giza Plateau, Egypt
  • The Statue of Liberty, New York, United States of America
  • Stonehenge, Salisbury, England
  • The Sydney Opera House, Sydney, Australia
  • The Taj Mahal, Agra, India
  • Timbuktu, Mali
The site provides a description of each, in case you're not sure what some of them are - and a image search on Google wouldn't hurt either.

I voted for:
Chichen Itza, The Coliseum, Easter Island, The Great Wall, Petra, The Pyramids at Giza, and Stonehenge.

Gotta go with the Great Wall - having your cities immune to Barbarian attack gives you a huge advantage. Same with the Pyramids - being able to switch directly to Universal Suffrage while your opponents are stuck in Despotism is wonderful.

Out of that list there, I would go with.
  • The Acropolis, Athens, Greece
  • Alhambra Palace, Granada, Spain
  • The Coliseum, Rome, Italy
  • Hagia Sophia, Istanbul, Turkey
  • The City of Petra, Jordan
  • Stonehenge, Salisbury, England
  • The Taj Mahal, Agra, India
I will vote on the site when I have more time. (tomorrow)

*Hersfold wonders if Byard has ever played the Civilization games...

*Byardkuria wonders why Hers has to wonder.

Personally, I think that there need to be more facets than engineering/construction to make something a Wonder.

How's about DARPA.

The Arecibo Observatory.

Kennedy Space Center.

The London Eye.

Hell, The Internet.

As such, I am apathetic.
