Those interested in seeing the (NationStates) world and joining the Diplomatic Corp should use the Diplomatic Corp sign up thread. I will also use this thread to post any announcements made by the Ministry.

My deputy must have the tact of Alfred, Batman's butler
My deputy must have the verbal grace of a door-to-door encyclopedia salesman.
My deputy must have the restraint of a nun in a lingerie shop
My deputy must have the diplomacy skillz of Henry Kissinger,
My deputy must have the looks of Michael Hasselhoff in speedos

Who Else could I appoint?

OPARSENAL FOR TEH WIN.

I graciously accept this appointment.

I believe it's time we started things off with a 24-year-old bottle of French Bordeaux.

Advance notice; I shall be away from Friday for a week (without Net access).

Thus: I need a Deputy before then... Someone... Anyone...

ahem....interested....that is if the Deputy can help in creating the Regional Update (haven't seen ours in years).

Tres, the regional update is now in the hands of the MoC, since the information gathering overlaps so much to do the MoC job with the Wire, and the Regional Updates.

So wait.....though this ministry does the posting...another ministry creates the doc? WHo's idea was that?! :headbang:

Anyway...I offered my help in that ministry as well...so makes no difference.

Haor, the constitutional amendment just passed a couple of weeks ago. So I suggest that, bottom line, when the new MoC takes office, you work out a working relationship with them about the regional reports.

And? They can produce all the "regional reports" they like. The Amendment does not say anything about what the DC can or cannot write or post in our embassys abroad. IMVVHO the MoC should look to revive the Wire and try to establish something like the Pacific Press (in its heyday not its current form) or Intermet. That would be a better use of their time (not, TBH, that making an update takes long) and would make more sense as Tres says. It will also help create activity in the DC by leaving update writing with them.

Eh....compromise...MOC creates it...we edit it and post it in our embasies. Or someone can propose some legislation.

Legislation isn't needed. I don't have a problem with the MoC producing "regional reports". I was merely saying that the DC will continue to produce embassy updates internally as it has done for the vast majority of its existance.

And to say again, IMHO the MoC should look to revive the Wire and try to establish something like the Pacific Press (in its heyday not its current form) or Intermet as that would be more beneifical to the MoC, the DC and the region as a whole.

EDIT: And the new DMoEA is EM.

EDIT: And the new DMoEA is EM.
WHAT???!!!

This is an outrage! I am fully outraged! Like, this much *holds hands out real wide* in shock and disbelief and bewilderment and flabbergastery and rancor -oh yes, rancor. Quite! And vehemence too, but a lot of discernible rancor as well!! I'll get you for this Haor Chall. I keep an lj updated Enemies List, and you are ON it now. In a *very* strongly worded section if I may add. You. Pol Pot. Ron Popeil. Under "Jerks".

Rage! Outwardly!

Great. The Ministry of Communications would like to work with you on composing the Regional Update. Could you contact me in order to get this going?

It cannot have escaped your notice that Lone Wolves United have decided to establish a raider group operating out of their consulate in the North Pacific.

there are those in the region who feel that this is a calculated insult to the historic sensibilities of the region, and (even if it were not) is a flagrant abuse of consulate status and our hosptality.

the MOEA has the right to close a consulate. He does not even have to justify this decision. Can I ask, are you intending to allow the consulate of Lone Wolves United to continue in this region, given the above?

Haor, if you use MSN, please feel free to contaact me on that venue. (I have problems in getting into IRC, so MSN woulld be a easier alternative.

The MoEA, as you may or may not know, also does something that we in the trade call "diplomacy". Depending on the results of that, yes, the closing of the LWU Consulate may be considered as part of our response. At this stage it will not be closed however.

There is also a little thing called not taking a patronising tone with those who make an honest and respectful enquiry.....

Yes, I have heard of diplomacy. It is a shame that Lone Wolves did not try this before taking this step. I do not see why they deserve more respect than they afforded to us.

Things in TNP tend to drag on a little. Can I ask how long you envisage this period of deplomacy lasting, and when a decision on the closure of the consulate will be reached?

Diplomacy doesn't necessarily contain respect. Our views are being made known quite clearly. Hopefully it will only take a couple of days to reach a decision, I will be keeping the cabinet informed and will also provide more information to the RA when we are at a stage to do so.

Diplomacy doesn't necessarily contain respect.

It does if you expect to receive respect, which is sort of my point.

I think that's just a case of misinterpretation. What I mean was, diplomacy is being tried not out of respect for LWU (as you suggested) but because it is more likely to achieve a result then just closing the consulate first. Hopefully that clarifies that slightly.

Anyway ... a couple of days ... thanks for the reply. I appreciate it.

No problem.

Hi,

Four days on, I was wondering whether a decision had been reached as to whether the Lone Wolves United consulate should remain open?

Following the announcement here I do not feel that closing a consulate is necessary.

To explain, LWU have been are well aware of how we viewed this incident. Closing a consulate as an isolated action achieves very little and on that basis, as further action is unlikely to be taken, there is no reason to do so, un my opinion.

Well, it's funny you say that Flem, I was going to request the closing of several consulates for no other reason than I didn't really like what they had to say in their regional reports but decided not to because of HC's announcement. :eyeroll:

:2c: The MoEA shuts embassies and consulates down for legitimate reasoning, not because they said something you personally didn't agree with. HC was correct not to cave into such foolish demands and should serve as an example of the benefits of being levelheaded and not reactionary in the face of a “problem”.
