SWA for SRA

This post will be edited later, as right now I'm short on time.

But fellow members of The North Pacific, tell me, how do you really feel about the speed of the Regional Assembly? Do you think that it's a fast, efficient, and responsive body of law that can create legislation to meet the challenges of our region?

Or is it this thing that requires so much time to pass a war powers act that by the time it shows up the most noticable and dangerous part of the conflict is over?

I'm not saying that our legislation should be a rubber stamp, but when there exists over 5 pages worth of guidelines on how to submit a bill, there becomes a problem. Thus, if elected, I promise to:

1. Streamline the procedure for submitting and debating a bill.
2. Create a standard format for bill submissions.
3. Appoint committees which overlook the bills being passed and researches them in more detail.
4. Make the Regional Assembly more responsive to deal with the growing constitution and a need to switch to more bill based law.

In short, I promise to make the Regional Assembly pick up the pace, so that the next time the region is in crisis, it can do something about it quickly.

I'm interested in this idea about committees overlooking bills, how do you forsee this working?
Committees would be requested in a motion through the informal discussion of the bill. What would happen then is that the Speaker of the House would appoint anywhere from 3 to 7 people to review the bill and report back on it when formal discusison begins.s

It seems to me that committee members would be just as apt to be inactive and slow in moving. Plus, it would introduce another level of bureaucracy.

However, the idea of fitting people into their respective areas of knowledge intrigues me. I guess I'll have to see how it plays out.

In any case, good luck in your campaign!

Apologies for the late response:

The thing about the committees is that their report is not mandatory to bring any bill to a vote. However, a group of people dedicated to research would be beneficial to giving the bill the respect and knowledgeable debate it deserves.

While committees might fall victim to inactivity and inefficiency, the idea and ability to do so is much needed. It would be able to shorten debate time.

6. Simplify the guidelines for bills and legislation. We haveover 5 pages worth of notes on how to submit a bill, even if it's about chewing gum. Seriously, our system needs to be less confusing and intimidating.

Do you feel an absolute structure for committees is required? If people want to comment and feel competent in the area, will they not do it anyways? How will a committee guarantee a better response and improvement in a bill?

By switching to a bill based law, do you mean turning more away from Constitutional modifications?

This canidate has been ruled ineligible to run for Speaker of the Regional Assembly as there is no evidence to support the fact that he is in fact a member of the RA.

Minister North Harmoneia and I have been searching for records of SWA's acceptance, and have attempted to contact both SWA and Former Minister Poltsamaa regarding this issue. Unfortunately, we found nothing and recieved no response from either party. I am unable to hold back the elections for a single candidate, as that would not only be illegal but would greatly inconvenience everyone else running. I apologize to SWA and his supporters for this situation, but unfortunately there is nothing I can do about it.

If anyone has any questions regarding this, please let me know.

Since I have sent the PM that informed me of my acceptance into the RA, I will answer these questions.

A committee formalizes what would otherwise be informal and disorganized information gathering. This is simply a voluntary process that makes it easier.

Yes, I hope that Constitutional Amendments become serious and rare.

:pinch:

After recieving the PM from SWA, I have determined that he is eligible after all, and as such will now belatedly add him to the official ballot.

If you would like to vote for SWA as SoRA, you are welcome to do so. If you have already voted, you may edit your ballot as long as you do so before the elections close. Again, sorry for the (continued) inconvenience.
