    Fascinating scientific research inside!

The central problem is of course the fact that legitimate scientists can't go anywhere else except to the government for dependable funding.. At least that's what the situation USED to be. Unterwasserseestaat mentions that a good chunk of funding does come from industry, which may be true.. but...

    The Mod Act

That is my fault. When I refer to "mods", I'm really referring to "admins". I was just lazy in my terminology.

    Formal Discussion, Constitutional Appendix

Submitted by Heft: This is a move to create a separate appendix from the Constitution for notes on how the Constitution was updated/changed. The quoted part would be the text of such an appendix.

    Re Hersfold's question on AJ's

Hersfold asked in the voting thread whether the bill would affect the current AJ's we're confirming now. In my own personal opinion, I don't think there's a problem. The current AJ's get confirmed, and their terms are up in November, as per the bill if it passes.

    Fascinating scientific research inside!

I think it might be hard to say that Bush has ruined science.. That's going a little too far. However, I agree with Kirby that science is getting a short shrift.. Society cannot expect bioscientists, for example, to turn out cures when funding for such critical institutes such as the NIH...

    At Vote:Repeal "Replanting Trees" [Complete]

This one is tempting to fote for, since the original resolution is a paltry three or four lines. However, I think that the repeal authors could have merely written another proposal in more detail and called it something else. AGAINST.

    AlHoma's Trivia Contest

Bah. I'm not even going to pretend I know any of this. EDIT: Flem, I would cheer at an all-history set as well.

    Guys-type thread

I'm going to wonder when this thread will move into the debate of whether women are more romantic than men.. At which point I will ride in with my infamous "defense of the enlightened guy" argument that I've developed at length during discussions with my friends.

    Fascinating scientific research inside!

This is just another example of pathetically poor science. The fact of the matter is that we waste millions of dollars on projects that seem patently obvious. For example, I read the other about research that confirms that eating more food leads to obesity. Goodlord! That's a revelation. I...

At Vote:UN Security Act 1 [Complete]

Oh dear.. You should've known I'm a contrarian :P There was not a consensus, there was a UNANIMOUS vote, and there is a difference. Consensus implies that different sides of the issue have come together. A unanimous vote is nothing of the sort. In fact, any unanimous vote in a democratic...

    The Mod Act

Wow, I'm enjoying the long posts with point by point analysis. And no, that wasn't sarcasm. The fundamental problem, and this touches on what FEC said earlier, is that an admin/mod is inherently an OOC position in NS, and the laws that we create are inherently IC. Therefore, if we attempt to...

    Removal of Security Council

Corruption is inevitable at some point in all freely elected forms of government purely because of human nature. But that doesn't mean we shuoldn't have any anti-corruption laws either.

    Removal of Security Council

To take the last point first -- I previously suggested and pushed for a piece of legislation that would bar any Ministers from sitting on the SC because I felt it to be a possible conflict of interest. However, as many will recall, that effort got nowhere.. If that really is a problem, I'd...

    Removal of Editorial Notes

We've had multiple proposals at vote simultaneously (or overlapping each other) before. As long as neither one of the proposals affects the other one, then that's not a problem.

SWA should be correct on 4 and 5. 3. I'm going to guess somewhere in Europe! 1. This must be Montecristo, Italy (the Monte Cristo sandwich and The Count of Monte Cristo, respectively.)

At Vote:UN Security Act 1 [Complete]

Hm, I'm rather surprised by the votes here.. The wording could be improved, but it gets its point across.. I don't believe it's an atrocious violation of sovereign rights of nations either. FOR, in full contrarian spirit.

    Removal of Security Council

I'm tempted to agree with Nam here.. The reason we haven't "seen much" of the SC is not because they are not doing anything, but rather because we haven't seen many regional emergencies lately, and that of course is a good thing. I think we need the SC to say "hey hold on a second, let's make...

    Guildwars

Unfortunately after my experience with WoW, I swore I would forsake all MMO's for awhile.. Before WoW, I didn't quite believe that dungeon crawls would take the entire night.. until I experienced it. However, that hasn't stopped me from meticulously reading stuff on GW online.
