Royal Prydanian Armed Forces/Konunglegur Prydanskher

The current Prydanian military was built from the Framan Ríki Eining (FRE, Front of National Unity) and their allied militias following their victory at the end of the Prydanian Civil War in June 2017, but reflected earlier pre-Syndicalist military traditions. The Prydanian military is divided into four brances. The Royal Prydanian Army, Royal Prydanian Navy, Royal Prydanian Air Force, and the Knights of the Storm.

Storm Lords

phbMqT8.png

The concept of the "storm" is a common motif throughout Prydanian history. The traditional seat of Loðbrók power and often the possession of the heir to the throne, Tempest Holm, is perhaps the most well-known example. The name itself is Mercanti for the Prydanian name Stormurholmr. The battle that Vortgyn Loðbrók won to unify all of Prydania occured at Stormhaven or Stormurhöfn, a Viking outpost on the edge of Bayardi territory.
And of course, the order of knights tasked with the King's safety- the Knights of the Storm. Or Riddarar af Stormur.

What is interesting is that this motif of the storm only seems to have emerged post-exile following Oswald's Conquest in Andrenne. It seemingly began with the tale that Hróarr Loðbrók first set foot on what would become Tempest Holm in the midst of a vicious storm, ending the journey of the exiles Vikings. It's from here that the motif of the storm seems to spread. Hróarr's descendent Vortgyn was, after all, King of Tempest Holm before he was King of Prydania. Or Konungur af Stormurholmr.

What's notable is that this doesn't appear anywhere in pre-Oswald sources. The Loðbrók stag is certainly pre-Oswald, and was likely derived from Jägdar, the Andrennian pagan god of the hunt. Pre-Oswald Loðbrók motifs seem entirely derived from this.
The Loðbrók seat of power in what is now Andrenne was Heorot, meaning "Hall of the Hart." The name of the Loðbrók heirloom sword Jægerblað comes from the Prydanian phrase for "hunter's blade," and was said to have been blessed by Jägdar himself (it was later blessed by Messianist priests centuries later after the decedents of the Vikings under Hróarr's command had converted). Examination of Heorot reveals a preference for themes not only of stags but of oak leaves and forested scenes. Motifs that re-occur in Prydania even today.

The storm that inspired the naming of Tempest Holm- and thus gave the idea of the storm primacy in Prydanian thought, did not eclipse these earlier ideas. The Skógarland, the name the Viking settlers of Prydania gave the forests that stretch across the central region of the country to this day, were said to be a defining feature of the new land these settlers called home.
It was in this way that the storm- symbolizing the journey of Loðbrók and their bannermen and warbands- was married with the traditional pre-Messianic concepts of respect for the hunt and sanctity of nature in the Prydanian consciousness.

Prydanian Soldiers Return to Býkonsviði in 1818 by Frode Bach, 1819.

Frode Bach was a realist Prydanian painter in the nineteenth century.
He was born in Krummedike, the son of Sanne Bach, a blacksmith, in 1792. At the age of eleven he was granted a dispensation and was admitted into the Royal Prydanian Academy of Fine Arts.
He painted the work at the age of 27, one year after the end of the Wars of the Callisen Republic. The scene depicts the victorious return of Prydanian soldiers following the successful UKAG offensive against Callise. The UKAG offensive followed a Prydanian victory over the invaders, an act many scholars believed led to the revival of Prydanian national sentiment. The combined UKAG offensive was the last major military operation of the UKAG era. The UKAG would split soon after the Callisen Wars, and King Rikard III of Prydania would re-assert Prydanian sovereignty.

These themes are reflected in the painting. The final victory of the War was a UKAG effort, but the scene painted in the streets of Býkonsviði primarily depicts Prydanian flags, with only two UKAG flags visible in the background. This reflects both the increasing Prydanian national awareness of the time, as well as a celebration of Prydania's successful resistance of the Callisen military prior to UKAG reinforcements arriving.

Prydanian Fascism and the Boar:
An Explanation of Social Commonwealth's Suidaic Emblem

ONuSYHS.png

The Social Commonwealth Party emerged as the leading Prydanian fascist movement in the late 1920s. The party's various predecessor organizations all took their lead from Andrennian fascism, adopting an ideology that attempted a syncretic fusion of various anti-enlightenment, anti-humanist, and anti-democratic ideals that had gained traction since the early/mid 1800s. This ideology was constantly refining itself.
Social scientists and historians struggle to define fascism as clearly as they as they define its left-wing equivalents of communism and syndicalism, yet the common threads seem to be a rejection of democracy, rejection of the concept of individual liberty, glorification of the state and autocratic rule, the rejection of the "other," and the glorification of the nation above all else.

The Party itself chose a boar as its emblem. The choice of the boar is reflective of one of the party's slogans, "Heim og Ættkvísl." Which translates to "Hearth and Kin." The idea of the hearth, as the domain of the ideal Prydanian family, called back to Jól, or Yule, the old pagan Nordic holiday that had been supplanted by the Messianic Christmas. The concept of the "hearth" for Yule was tied to the old pre-Messianist sacrifice of a boar to Taunell, the chief deity of the Andrennian pantheon. While this tradition is thought to have given rise to the tradition of a ham on Christmas? It also became a symbol of peace and tranquility in the home, with one's kin.
Though the "Heim og Ættkvísl" slogan was supplanted by the "Til Sigurs!" ("To Victory!") slogan in quick order? The idea of using the image of a peaceful, ideal Prydanian home as the vanguard against the perceived enemies of Prydanian Nordic culture lead to the adoption of the boar as a symbol for the movement.

The Social Commonwealth Party was ousted from power in 1951, following the Dominion's defeat in the Fascist War. Rikard VI, who had been an enthusiastic Social Commonwealth supporter, passed away in 1954. His son, Robert VII, dismantled the fascist state. The Party would rise again, however, using the economic turbulence of the early 1980s to gain a foothold in Prydanian politics once more. The assassination attempt on the King's immediate family left only Robert VII's youngest sons, Prince Anders and Prince Robert, alive. Anders III and the new Social Commonwealth leader Stefan Toft would together establish an autocratic de-facto one-party state.
This state lasted until 2002, when it was overthrown in a Syndicalist coup. The resulting Civil War between the new Syndicalist government and the pro-Royalist Front of National Unity relegated the memory of Social Commonwealth fascism to the dustbin of history.

The FRE victory in the Civil War led to an attempted re-emergence of Social Commonwealth loyalists. FRE infiltration, however, lead to the ring-leaders of the proposed resurrection to be arrested. The movement was declared a criminal organization and outlawed by a decree from the newly-crowned King Tobias III.
Display of the boar-head banner or any other Social Commonwealth uniforms or symbols in Prydania is punishable by up to one year in prison.

To the soldiers, airmen, and sailors of the FRE armed forces and our allies from across the seas.

Fifteen years ago the tyranny of Syndicalism embedded itself in the heart of the Prydanian Realm. Today, after a great crusade of many years, we find ourselves on the outskirts of our beloved capital, on the verge of regaining our freedom and our country. Already General Krummedike's Fifth Army has engaged the Syndicalist enemy in the outskirts of Keris to the west. There will be no salvation for the criminals who now occupy Býkonsviði, who have refused the prospect for peace and who now force us to see the war to its logical end.

We will all embark upon one last fight for the future of our country, against an enemy that grew from within and nearly destroyed us. The tide had turned, however. From the heart of Austurland to Alaterva, to Hadden and Krummedike, our forces, along with our closest friends and kin from afar, have thrown the Syndicalist tyranny back and liberated many of our realm from Syndicalist oppression.

We have a rendezvous with destiny. Not all people are called for such a fate, but fate rarely calls upon us at a time of our choosing. It is our duty now, to fight one final time for the Prydanian Realm and the country we all believe in. We will fight in the streets of Býkonsviði until the very end to put the criminal regime of Thomas Nielsen in the ground and ensure the victory of civilization over the forces of oppression. Your task will not be an easy one, but in the name of Prydania, our future King, and our soon to be won freedom, in the name of God Almighty, I ask you all. Won't you come with me and take this city?
-Field Marshal Stig Eiderwig-Loðbrók, Thane of Eiderwig, of the FRE Armed Forces

Democratic People's Republic of Skanda- Analysis of Potential Trade-based Relations Given Current Political Climates in Craviter and Iteria
Tosh N. Bang
The potential of trade-based relations between the Kingdom of Prydania (the Realm) and the Democratic People's Republic of Skanda (Skanda) is a complex topic that relies on a number of factors.
The immediate estimation among most politicians and the general public is that such a relationship is unlikely to be possible or- if it is- not open to much potential. It is true that the Realm and Skanda are unlikely to view each other's political systems without suspicion. The Realm's ties to UKAG, as well as ethnic and cultural ties to Andrenne, will also complicate matters. These limitations, however, do not fully cover the topic and do not account for all variables and opinions on either side of the Realm/Skanda question.

It is important to note that regimes in Skanda one would comfortably call communist or socialist never overlapped with the Syndicalist regime in the Realm. Therefore the DPRS regime does not have the baggage associated with recognizing the Syndicalist regime (see Ugria). While political orientation remains a stumbling block this fact allows both officials in Skanda and the Realm to start from a position not tainted by the Syndicalist regime or the Civil War.
Leaders in the current Skandan regime voiced support- mostly tacit- for the Syndicalist regime in so far as it suited their interests back at home prior to the establishment of the DPRS regime. Skandan silence and neutrality re: the Syndicalist insurgence post-Civil War that was crushed can be seen as the Skandan regime's personnel no longer willing to be seen as pro-Syndicalist. The Skandan government's unwillingness to offer even a symbolic condemnation of Jannik Lieftur's execution is telling and indicative that Skanda views the Syndicalist regime and movement as a past event that they no longer feel obligated to support moving forward.

Ideological differences also fail to account for the mutual economic benefits that can be gained by economic cooperation. Both Skanda and the Realm are highly agricultural, and each can find new markets for their agrofood exports in each other. Skandan rice and fruit is still a rare sight in the Realm, and the Realm's wheat, potato, and meat-based goods would find new markets in Skanda. Skanda receives some of these products from Demescia, but the Skandan government- like all concerned economic actors- is weary of relying too much on one place for a single product. Dairy specifically represents both a major export of the Realm and a foodstuff that is almost absent from Skanda.
This offers the Realm a chance to fill this particular need, and likely will be enough to overcome philosophical ideological divides. Both Skanda and the Realm could gain new market opportunities by trading with each other.

The DPRS regime is also fundamentally cautious of the legacy of Jirou Yoshiʻhiwe. Cautious in so much as they are desperate to avoid their system developing into a copy of Jiroism. Jirou Yoshiʻhiwe represents a conundrum of the regime- he is seen as an ideological forefather, yet it is universally recognized throughout the DPRS leadership in Skanda that his hardliner approach to communist governance would not be viable for Skanda either internally or externally. The SEZs are a repudiation of hardline Jiroism, and represent the regime's willingness to do business if beneficial to the regime and their economic needs. The election of a moderate to left leaning government in the State of Iraelia willing to commit to a thawing of realtions with Skanda could also usher in a new era of international cooperation on Skanda's part.

There is much to be gained from an economic perspective by the opening of trade relations between Skanda and the Realm. Yet these economic benefits do not overwrite the lingering feels of ideological distrust that would exist between the two. Feelings towards left-leaning governments in the Realm have only somewhat been tempered by the thawing of relations with the First People's Empire of Cogoria. And while Skanda has no overt history with the Prydanian monarchy- beyond familial ties between Kjellner and Loðbrók dynasties- their distaste of the institution itself would cause tension with the Realm if raised.

Skanda represents a new opportunity for the Realm to expand its economic markets, while also representing the same for Skanda. Ideological divides, however, could potentially undermine any potential agreement if not handled delicately.

Recommend approaching with hesitant caution.

forward- M. Toft

To King Thibault II of Saintonge, and the people of his Realm,

Your Majesty, I wish to extend my heartfelt gratitude to you and the people of your nation for the kindness, generosity, and compassion shown to Prydanian refugees who sought sanctuary in your borders.
The extent of Saintonian efforts were not known to me for the longest time. It is only now that I have been enthroned as King of Prydania that I am privy to intelligence and diplomatic documents of both the ousted Syndicalist regime and my own faction that now occupies the government.

The story these documents tell speak to the role of your people and government. I do not know how my realm will ever be able to repay yours, but it gives me comfort as both a King and as a Prydanian to know we have friends such as the Santonian people.

I hope nothing but the best regarding our governments' future relations.

Humarrúlla, Prydanskstil | Lobster Roll, Prydanian Style
The Prydanian lobster roll was developed in Keris, a city on northwest coast of Prydania. Keris has a long seafaring and fishing tradition. North ocean lobster has long been a regional delicacy, becoming a regular staple of working-class diets.
The Prydanian-style lobster roll reflects these origins. They can be served with either a bun or piece of bread, toasted and buttered. Clumps of lobster meat are topped with melted butter and nothing else.
They are commonly served with sides of salted fries or chips.

Prydanian Songs

Over the Hills and Far Away
by Johan Torp, 1816, written during the Calisean invasion during the Wars of the Calisean Republic.

Here's forty kross on the drum
For those who'll volunteer to come
To 'list and fight the foe today.
Over the hills and far away.

O'er the hills and o'er the main.
Through Norsia, Drekaríki, and Aleman.
King Rikard commands and we obey.
Over the hills and far away.

When duty calls me, I must go
To stand and face another foe.
But part of me will always stray
Over the hills and far away.

O'er the hills and o'er the main.
Through Norsia, Drekaríki, and Aleman.
King Rikard commands and we obey.
Over the hills and far away.

If I should fall to rise no more,
As many comrades did before,
Then ask the fifes and drums to play
Over the hills and far away.

O'er the hills and o'er the main.
Through Norsia, Drekaríki, and Aleman.
King Rikard commands and we obey.
Over the hills and far away.

Then fall in lads behind the drum,
With colours blazing like the sun.
Along the road to come-what may.
Over the hills and far away.

O'er the hills and o'er the main.
Through Norsia, Drekaríki, and Aleman.
King Rikard commands and we obey.
Over the hills and far away.

Come all You Brave Prydanians
by Charles Joð, 1846, written to honour a Prydanian victory against the Callisens in western Prydania in 1817.

Come all you brave Prydanians
I'd have you lend an ear
Concerning a fine ditty
That will make your courage cheer,
Concerning an engagement
We had at Samloku town―
The courage of those Callise boys
So bravely we pulled down.

There was a bold commander
General Beck by name
Took shipping at Landerne
And unto Erkiengill he came.
He said:
"My gallant heroes,
Forward if you would steer
To fight against Callise boys
Without dread or fear."

We travelled all that night
And part of the next day
With firm determination
To show them the Nordika play.

We travelled all that night
And part of the next day
With bold determination
To conquer or to die.

Our general sent a flag to them
And unto them did say:
"Surrender now your lines
Or I'll fire on you this day."
But they would not surrender
And chose to stand their ground
We opened up our great guns
And gave them fire all around.
Their general sent a flag to us
For quarter he did call:
"Hold your guns, Prydanian boys, I fear you'll slay us all."
"Our line you have at your command
Our camp likewise."
They brought their guns and grounded them
Right down before our eyes.

And now we are all home again
Each man is safe and sound
May the memory of this victory
All through the realm sound.
Success unto our volunteers
Who did their rights maintain
And to our bold commander General Beck by name!

They All Call It Prydania, but I Call It Home
by Freybjörn Grendal, 1957, written following King Robert VII dissolving the fascist government, as a celebration of a better, democratic Prydania. Currently getting renewed play in Prydania to celebrate the country's rebuild following the Civil War.

This is my country
This is my land
My old Prydanian land
This is my home

Side by side and stroke by stroke
Our fathers were sailing along
They were building a road to the future
With a sword and a smile and a song.

Out of the wilderness and out of the surf
Grew the land that we live in today.
Though the job to be done has barely begun,
There is one thing I'm proud to say:

My country is my cathedral
The northern sky its dome
They all call it Prydania
But I call it home

The mountains, the lakes and valleys
Are friends that I have known
They all call it Prydania
But I call it home
From the Straight to the March
From the sea to Norsia
We're on united brotherhood
And united we will stay

The people across Craviter
And far across the foam
They all call it Prydania
But I call it home

For the King, to Valhalla
by Knud Buch, 2013, written as a Royalist song in honour of Prince Tobias Loðbrók during the Civil War following the Second Battle of Markarfljot.

When a humble bard
Graced a ride along
With Tobias Loðbrók
Along came this song

From when the true Prince fought
A silver-tongued scoundrel
His army of thugs
At his command did they revel

They came after me
With masterful deceit
Broke down my door
And they kicked in my teeth

While the scoundrel's men
Minced our tender meat
And so cried the Prince
He can’t be beat

For the King, to Valhalla
O’ Valley of Plenty
O’ Valley of Plenty
O’
For the King, to Valhalla
O’ Valley of Plenty

At our edge of the world
Fight the Syndie horde
That bashes and breaks you
And brings you to mourn

He fought every red
Until they were all dead
Tossed to the dark
From whence they came

He wiped out your pest
Got kicked in his chest
He’s a friend of the realm
So give him the rest

That’s my epic tale
Our champion prevailed
Defeated the Syndies
Now pour him some ale

For the King, to Valhalla
O’ Valley of Plenty
O’ Valley of Plenty
O’
For the King, to Valhalla

Solider, Poet, King
by Svafar Vignes, 2016, written at the height of jubilation as FRE forces pushed against the Syndicalist Republic post-Battle of Hadden. The collapse of the Syndicalist Republican Army armoured corps in Hadden in late 2015 resulted in swift FRE gains. The song was a reflection of the jubilant liberation from Syndicalist tyranny. The lyrics have a double meaning. On one hand they refer to the soldiers, the thinkers, and Prince Tobias of the FRE (the solider, poet, and king) coming to tear down the Syndicalist state. The lyrics also, however, represent Jesus and the word of God coming to liberate, itself a reputation of the harsh state atheism of Syndicalist ideology.

There will come a soldier
Who carries a mighty sword
He will tear your commune down
Oh lei, oh lai, oh, Lord
Oh lei, oh lai, oh lei, oh, Lord
He will tear your commune down
Oh lei, oh lai, oh lei, oh, Lord

There will come a poet
Whose weapon is his word
He will slay your Party with his tongue
Oh lei, oh lai, oh, Lord
Oh lei, oh lai, oh lei, oh, Lord
He will slay your Party with his tongue
Oh lei, oh lai, oh, Lord

There will come a king
Whose brow is laid in thorn
Smeared with oil like David's boy
Oh lei, oh lai, oh, Lord
Oh lei, oh lai, oh lei, oh, Lord
Smeared with oil like David's boy
Oh lei, oh lai, oh, Lord

Oh lei, oh lai, oh lei, oh, Lord
He will tear your commune down, oh lei, oh lai
Ohh
Oh lei, oh lai, oh lei, oh lai, oh
Oh lei, oh lai, oh lei, oh lai, oh
Oh lei, oh lai, oh lei, oh lai
Oh lei, oh lai, oh lei, oh lai, oh

Tear the Syndies Down
by Viði Gaoþair, 2013, the song was one of many to come out of liberated Austurland following the FRE's Winter Offensive in 2013. The song refers to the FRE fighting on with Goyanean and Andrennian help- the Nordika powers- and how the combined arms and forces will tear the Syndicalist regime down. Andrennian tanks, which made up the bulk of the FRE armoured corps are mentioned. As is FRE military commander Field Marshal Stig Eiderwig, fighting across the Stór River to cross into Midland.

There's a great and a bloody fight 'round this realm tonight
And the battle, the bombs and shrapnel reign
Nielsen told the world around he would tear our Crown down
But our Crown's gonna break them Syndie chains
Our Crown's gonna break them Syndie chains

I walked up on a mountain in the middle of the sky
Could see every farm and every town
I could see all the people in this whole wide realm
That's the Crown that'll tear the Syndies down, down, down
That's the Crown that'll tear the Syndies down

When I think of the men and the ships going down
While Eiderwig fights on across the Stór
There's Haland in ruins and Hadden in chains
Good people, what are we waiting on?
Good people, what are we waiting on?

So, I thank the Goyaneans and the mighty Andrennian vets
And Nordika the whole wide world around
To the battling FRE, thanks, you can have some Andrennian Tanks
If it takes 'em to tear the Syndies down, down, down
If it takes 'em to tear the Syndies down

But when I think of the ships and the men going down
And Eiderwig fights on across the Stór
There's Haland in ruins and Hadden in chains
Good people, what are we waiting on?
Good people, what are we waiting on?

So, I thank the Goyaneans and the mighty Andrennian vets
And Nordika the whole wide world around
To the battling FRE, thanks, you can have some Andrennian Tanks
If it takes 'em to tear the Syndies down, down, down
If it takes 'em to tear the Syndies down

You'll Never Leave Rakjandi Alive
by Daníval Ólfjörð, 1933, written to celebrate the strikers in the 1931-32 Rakjandi Coal Strike, aka the Rakjandi Coal War, aka Blóðugrakjandi (Bloody Rakjandi). Coal miners in the western Prydanian mountains went on strike and violently resisted attempts by the mine companies, Thanedom of Krummedike, and the national government to break the strike. The miners were forced back to work, but the event was key in the slow radicalization of the Syndicalist movement. The song itself makes no overt reference to the strike, allowing it serve as a timeless anthem to the hardship of coal miners in the western Prydanian mountains.

In the deep dark hills of western Prydania
That's the place where I trace my bloodline
And it's there I read on a hillside gravestone
'You will never leave Rakjandi alive'

When my granddad's dad walked down Ash Mountain
And he asked Elna Höyer to be his bride
He said, won't you walk with me out of the mouth of this valley?
Or we'll never leave Rakjandi alive

Where the sun comes up about ten in the morning
And the sun goes down about three in the day
And you fill your cup with whatever bitter brew you're drinkin'
And you spend your life just thinkin' of how to get away

Well no one ever knew there was coal in them mountains
'Til a man from Beaconsviði arrived
Waving hundred kross bills
He said, I'll pay you for your minerals
But he never left Rakjandi alive

Well granny, she sold out cheap and they moved out south of Keris
To a farm where big Landerne River winds
I bet they danced them a jig and laughed and sang a new song
Who said we'd never leave Rakjandi alive?

But the times, they got hard and rye wasn't selling
And ole granddad knew what he'd do to survive
He went and dug for Rakjandi Coal
Sent the money back to granny but he never left Rakjandi alive

Where the sun comes up about ten in the morning
And the sun goes down about three in the day
And you fill your cup with whatever bitter brew you're drinkin'
And you spend your life just thinkin' of how to get away

And the sun comes up about ten in the morning
And the sun goes down about three in the day
And you fill your cup with whatever bitter brew you're drinking
And you spend your life digging coal from the bottom of your grave

In the deep dark hills of western Prydania
That's the place where I trace my bloodline
And it's there I read on a hillside gravestone
'You'll never leave Rakjandi alive'

Bountiful Evening
by ??? in ??? This song is a traditional Prydanian folk song believed to originate circa 900, following the establishment of viking colonies in the Bayardi land of Prieden following Oswald the Conqueror's unification of Andrenne. Though certain anthropologists and linguists believe a variation may have been song by the vikings of Heorot prior to Hróarr Loðbrók's exodus. It is believed that the version that solidified into a folk song in what became Prydania references the Craviter Swallow, which has become a symbol both of the Yellowtail Economic Engagement Treaty and the Akarian Sayoku Dōmei political party.

bountiful, bountiful, bountiful
A little swallow flew
and started to twitter,
to summon the master:
"Come out, come out, O master,
look at the sheep pen,
there the ewes have yeaned
and the lambkins have been born
Your livestock is great,
you will have a lot of money,
If not money, then chaff,
you have beautiful wife."
bountiful, bountiful, bountiful,
A little swallow flew.

The Dancing Wind
by Bjarkar Freydal, 1591. This song was written to celebrate the Christmas season and the onset of winter. It reflects Prydania's long nature-oriented outlook. The country has always relied on its agricultural output, but this song explains why the winter season is one of celebration and not dread. While it does kill vegetation the cold also reinvigorates the land after the harvests of the fall. Prydania's outlook towards nature is thus summed up as one of balance.

The cold comes at Christmas
certainly dark as coal.
Caressing children
sheltered with candles in windows.
wind, yes dance wind
It's winter and the cold gives a new vigour.
wind, yes dance wind
It's slipping on a cold Christmas Eve.
Now the snow is sparkling
in a black night.
Feeds of rhythms and tones
of vibrant hearts.
wind, yes dance wind
It's winter and the cold gives a new vigour.
wind, yes dance wind
It's slipping on a cold Christmas Eve.
wind, yes dance wind
in winter, children find shelter.
wind, yes dance wind
Winter brings children a Merry Christmas.

Take Me Home, Woodland Roads
by Jasper Dahl, 1921. The song was written to celebrate the natural beauty of the countryside in western Prydania. It experienced a resurgence at the end of the Civil War, popular among farmers who were returning home after being forcibly conscripted into mining pits or industrial factories by the Syndicalist government.

Almost Valhalla, Prydania
Ash Ridge Mountains, Landerne River
Life is old there, older than the trees
Younger than the mountains, blowing like a breeze

Woodland roads, take me home
To the place I belong
Prydania, forests tall
Take me home, woodland roads

All my memories gather round her
Hunter's spirit, stranger to peaceful skies
Dark and calm, painted on the land
Misty taste of brennivín, teardrop in my eye

Woodland roads, take me home
To the place I belong
Prydania, forests tall
Take me home, woodland roads

I hear her voice, in the morning hour she calls me
The radio reminds me of my home far away
And driving down the road I get a feeling
That I should have been home yesterday, yesterday

Woodland roads, take me home
To the place I belong
Prydania, forests tall
Take me home, woodland roads

Woodland roads, take me home
To the place I belong
Prydania, forests tall

Take me home, woodland roads
Take me home, down woodland roads
Take me home, down woodland roads

The Battle Cry of Valhalla
by Gerðar Reykfell in 1817, this song was written in honour of the war effort against the invading Calliseans and gained popularity as a marching song. The song's lyrics were re-worked in 2014 by an unknown source, serving as a song for the Royalist side during the Prydanian Civil War.

Oh we'll rally round the flag, boys, we'll rally once again,
Shouting the battle cry of Valhalla!
And we'll rally from the hillside, we'll gather from the forest,
Shouting the battle cry of Valhalla!

The Kingdom forever, hurrah! boys, hurrah!
Down with the invaders, up with the Cross;
While we rally round the flag, boys, we rally once again,
Shouting the battle cry of Valhalla!

So we're springing to the call from the East and from the West,
Shouting the battle cry of Valhalla;
And we'll hurl Chavier's crew from the land we love the best,
Shouting the battle cry of Valhalla!

The Kingdom forever, hurrah! boys, hurrah!
Down with the invaders, up with the Cross;
While we rally round the flag, boys, we rally once again,
Shouting the battle cry of Valhalla!

2014 version

Oh we'll rally round the flag, boys, we'll rally once again,
Shouting the battle cry of Valhalla!
And we'll rally from the hillside, we'll gather from the forest,
Shouting the battle cry of Valhalla!

The Kingdom forever, hurrah! boys, hurrah!
Down with the Hammer, up with the Cross;
While we rally round the flag, boys, we rally once again,
Shouting the battle cry of Valhalla!

So we're springing to the call from the East and from the West,
Shouting the battle cry of Valhalla;
And we'll hurl the Syndie crew from the land we love the best,
Shouting the battle cry of Valhalla!

The Kingdom forever, hurrah! boys, hurrah!
Down with the Hammer, up with the Cross;
While we rally round the flag, boys, we rally once again,
Shouting the battle cry of Valhalla!

Hróarr's Song
by Cædmon Völsung in 1151, written in the latter years of King Anders I's reign, the song references Hróarr Loðbrók leading the clans of Heorot east to Prydania from Andrenne in the 870s. The song celebrates the voyage across the Great Northern Ocean and romanticizes the adventurous streak of the viking age.

Follow the path
To where no one's ever been
Don't turn around
Until you reach the end
Across the sea
And beyond the distant lands
The world awaits
So don't make any plans
There you go
There you go

When every step
Takes you a thousand miles away
You'll find the edge
Beyond the break of day
And leave behind
Everything you've ever had
The one's you love
The comfort of your bed
There you go
There you go

What you call home
Is a box of memories
Forever lost
But good enough to keep
Cause you don't know
What tomorrow holds for you
Another path
Or just a glimpse of truth
There you go
There you go

There's a place at the end of the road
Where our lives turn to light pure as gold
Where the past is just a sparkle of time
And the world is all good by design

This is not a farewell
Just a goodbye

Marching Through Hadden
This song reused an old folk tune from the Prydanian countryside of Midland that had been used for a number of songs for centuries. Lieutenant Heiður Sværd is said to have written the lyrics to celebrate the FRE's capture of Hadden in late 2015 during the Prydanian Civil War.

Bring the good old fiddle, boys, we'll sing another song
Sing it with a spirit that will start the world along
Sing it as we used to sing it, 50,000 strong
While we were marching through Hadden!

Hurrah! Hurrah! we bring the jubilee!
Hurrah! Hurrah! the flag that makes you free!
So, we sang the chorus from Reykjadalr to the sea
While we were marching through Hadden!

How the people shouted when they heard the joyful sound
How the chickens clucked which our commissary found
How the wheat even started from the ground
While we were marching through Hadden!

Yes, and there were King’s men who wept with joyful tears,
When they saw the honoured flag they had not seen for years;
Hardly could they be restrained from breaking forth in cheers,
While we were marching through Hadden!

Hurrah! Hurrah! we bring the jubilee!
Hurrah! Hurrah! the flag that makes you free!
So, we sang the chorus from Reykjadalr to the sea
While we were marching through Hadden!

"Eiderwig’s dashing Cavaliers will never reach the coast!"
So the saucy Syndies said and 'twas a handsome boast
Had they not forgot, alas! to reckon with the Host
While we were marching through Hadden!

So, we made a thoroughfare for freedom and her train,
A hundred kilometers in latitude, nearly five-hundred to the main;
Syndies fled before us, for resistance was in vain
While we were marching through Hadden!

Hurrah! Hurrah! we bring the jubilee!
Hurrah! Hurrah! the flag that makes you free!
So, we sang the chorus from Reykjadalr to the sea
While we were marching through Hadden!

Lovesickness of the Gods

This is an old Prydanian folk song, whose origins lie some two-hundred years before the exodus from Heorot to Prydania. It tells of a god's love for a frost giantess.

Though every day the elfbeam dawns,
It lights my longing never.

From Gymir’s house I beheld go forth
a maiden dear to me;
Her arms glittered and from their gleam
shone all the sea and sky.

To me more dear than in days of old
was ever maiden to man;
But no one of gods or elves will grant
that we both together should be.

All Shall Fade

This is another old Prydanian folk song, originating around a century after Hróarr Loðbrók led the vikings of Heorot east. It commemorates the journey and a search for home.

Still round the corner there may wait
A new road or a secret gate,
And though we pass them by today,
Tomorrow we may come this way
And take the hidden paths that run
Toward the Moons or to the Sun.

Apple, thorn, and nut and sloe,
Let them go! Let them go!
Sand and stone and pool and dell.
Fare you well, fare you well!

Home is behind, the world ahead,
And there are many paths to tread
Through shadows to the edge of night,
Until the stars are all alight.

Mist and twilight, cloud and shade,
All shall fade, all shall fade!
Then world behind and home ahead,
We´ll wander back to home and bed.
Fire and lamp, and meat and bread,
And to bed! And then to bed!

By Luscovo Field

By Halftan Forren, in 2014. The song is meant to sound like a traditional Prydanian viking song, and references the failed invasion of Norsia by King Robert I of Prydania in the 14th century. It was an early example of folk revival music in the FRE-liberated portions of Prydania during the Civil War.

Right you are Robert Loðbrók, the prophecy
Of Brother Olav Meloy's dreams, and now you
Have to go with Prince Harald and march to Norsia and
Fulfil more strange dreams

In spring of 1328 the journey was started.
The power loving king of Prydania ruled eager
His land and with one hundred and ninety-five
knights, to the Austurlands they marched,
And Prince Harald's band led a number of ten longships.

Came up from the city of Luscovo, in battle
Fall the Jarl Brevig and Thane Jórvík, he fled.
Robert and Harald went forward because Jarl
Stordalen, he swore to them that he and the knights
Of the king's table will meet them
At Luscovo field.

Next day when Robert and Harald walked around
The camp, the sun gleamt at many helmets and
Armours.
The Queen of Norsia had arrived and
Saw with clarity that the northmen army was
Standing ready
At Luscovo Fields

Got them on the advice to led them out of county,
While Norstoga lead the Storm Knights as fast as he could
But to win a little time, they said to the bad, strong
Tjodolv that he has to stop the king's men out there
At Luscovo Field.

And long Tjodolv held out against the
Norsian Queen but from underneath
The bridge with spears they stuck, so they
Overcame. Then the second battle ran
Over, while Öystein and Norstoga and all
Men sprang from the ships, to reach in
time, Luscovo Field.

Before Robert's army could march forward
They were cut from both sides and an arrow
Hit him. When Öystein and Norstoga arrived,
Fully dressed in armour all over the men were
Slit and ran barely fighting in the water and the
hills at Luscovo Field.

When the third battle began, was called Orreira
And slaughter was great and the Prydanians
Had to flee.. So they went to William's men in
There at Luscovo Field.

Prydania the Fair

Do you hear Herjolv, my friend?
The ship was long and wide
Where will I find Gunnar?
He travelled really far out
Hróarr's ships bring the course charts
The ship was long and wide
Travel with wind out to the lands to the east
He travelled really far out
After the strong wind they went through the fog
The ship was long and wide
Among icebergs layed fjords with green valleys
He travelled really far out
They settled camps in steep hills
The ship was long and wide
But further out him Leiv wanted to travel
He travelled really far out
Do you hear Bjarni Herjol?
The ship was long and wide
Where will I find hospitable shores?
He travelled really far out
They sailed along Thule to the north
The ship was long and wide
So held they course out in the ocean to the west
He travelled really far out

Land they saw after two days, there were rock, stones and caves
And the men called it Yerland and it was not farmable
And on southern shores they later saw wooden grounds and hills
And here was flowers and green fields they called it Prydania the Fair
And here it grew grains along wide shores, she was Prydania the Fair

Builders of the Future
by the Syndicalist Republic Ministry of Public Enlightenment, 2007, written for the Syndicalist Young Pioneers, the youth wing of the Syndicalist Party of Prydania.

Sing to the sailors in the People's Navy
Sing to the soldiers on the battlefield!
Sing to the airmen in the burning azure
Sing to the workers' rising yields!

We are the children, builders of the future
and we the children swear to ye
loyal devotion, fearless devotion
and to die with dignity!

Sing to the faithful members of the Party
Sing to the Party policy!
Sing to the country, the People's Prydania
Land of peace and victory!

Heorot
No one is sure who first composed this song but it first appears around 20 years after the arrival of Hróarr Loðbrók and bus followers in what is now eastern Prydania. It's a tongue-in-cheek tune meant to present the land they had to flee from in Andrenne, Heorot, as an idealic place.

A law was made a distant moon ago here:
July and August cannot be too hot.
And there's a legal limit to the snow here
In Heorot.
The winter is forbidden till December
And exits March the second on the dot.
By order, summer lingers through September
In Heorot.
Heorot! Heorot!
I know it sounds a bit bizarre,
But in Heorot, Heorot
That's how conditions are.
The rain may never fall till after sundown.
By eight, the morning fog must disappear.
In short, there's simply not
A more congenial spot
For happily-ever-aftering than here
In Heorot.

Heorot! Heorot!
I know it gives a person pause,
But in Heorot, Heorot
Those are the legal laws.
The snow may never slush upon the hillside.
By nine the moonlight must appear.
In short, there's simply not
A more congenial spot
For happily-ever-aftering than here
In Heorot.

With her power
The demon brings death to Eras
Then she dies

When history
Changes greatly Reginleif
Reveals herself
First as an evil Demon

When her sleep ends
Reginleif rises again
As a great hero

Wander My Friends
No one really knows who composed this song, though its first mention is in the court of Baldr III, in 1515. It's believed the lyrics were written to celebrate the Loðbrók dynasty, restored by Baldr III of House Scylfing after a century and a half of Korovan Maksutov rule. The song can be seen as a celebration of the perseverance of Hróarr Loðbrók in leading his people to Prydania from Andrenne.
The song became popular amongst the common people in the coming years, its lyrics resonating both with those weary from work and happy for celebration.
The song faded away as the 20th century took hold but found new life during the Civil War when the then Prince Tobias Loðbrók quoted it in his speech following the liberation of Haland, saying the FRE would fight the Syndicalists until the end and that the country would survive the war because "despite our weariness we'll follow the road."

Wander my friends, wander with me
Like the mist on the green mountain, moving eternally
Despite our weariness
We'll follow the road
Over hills and back
To the end of the journey

Come on my friends and sing with me
Fill the night with joy and sport
Here's a toast to the friends who have gone from us
Like the mist of the green mountain,
Gone forever

We Don't Wanna Bend It
Written in 2023 by Hastein Storlie for the Röddin Prydansk frá Alaterva song contest, the song was banned from the competition because of its political nature. Song organizers deemed the lyrics "we don't wanna bend it" as being directed against Hubert Bennett, the leader of the socialist government in Callise. The song was meant as a repudiation of the Callisean socialists' alleged aim of extending influence across Craviter, including Prydania.

Some people tell you the stories
To drag you down to the knees
But let me tell you: don't worry
No worries, no worries

Another glass of my brennivin
Will kick the hell out of me
But let me focus on good stuff
Some good stuff, just good stuff

We don't wanna bend it to negative moves
It's killin' the grooves
I'm a-tryin' to shoot in some disco tonight
Boogie with you

So many people are whining
They're freakin' all day long
The bitchin' will last forever
And ever, and ever

You better change your perspective
Your life won't be outta luck
A groovy sun will be rising
Be rising, it's rising

We don't wanna bend it to negative moves
It's killin' the grooves
I'm a-tryin' to shoot in some disco tonight
Boogie with you

Boogie with you, boogie with you
Boogie with you, boogie with you
Boogie with you

I like all Craviter countries and I love Prydania
Say: give me sexy ah (Give me sexy ah)
Say: give me sexy ah (Give me sexy ah)

Bend it
Don't wanna bend it
We don't wanna bend it
We don't wanna bend it

We don't wanna bend it to negative moves
It's killin' the grooves
I'm a-tryin' to shoot in some disco tonight
Boogie with you

We don't wanna bend it to negative moves
It's killin' the grooves
I'm a-tryin' to shoot in some disco tonight
Boogie with you

We don't wanna bend it

Education in the Kingdom of Prydania

-History

The education system of Prydania has remained remarkably stable despite the events that have rocked the country since the mid nineteen eighties.
The present-day education system has its roots in the reforms of Prime Minister Kristvin Austdal in the years following the death of the pro-fascist King Rikard VI. Rikard's liberal-minded son, King Robert VII, was eager to support reforms to the country following the Fascist War's conclusion.
Austdal's government had a number of tasks to accomplish regarding education reform. The first was to standardize the country's education system. Education had, up to that point, been developing at an uneven pace. Schooling in the urban areas were modernizing while some rural schools were, according to Austdal's Minister of Education Heiðmar Fagerland, "operating at a nineteenth century level." Standards had to be agreed to, and applied universally to bring schooling up to even levels across the country.
The second task would be what those schools taught. The pro-fascist and hyper nationalist curriculum of the Social Commonwealth regime was replaced by a liberal-minded and modern curriculum based on the curriculum used in places like Goyanes, Valland, Saintonge, and Callise.
The third task was funding it all. This was, in actuality, the easiest part. Austdal's government made a commitment to investing in education, an investment that helped give rise to Prydania's post-Fascist War boom.

The standardized system was hijacked by both the second Social Commonwealth dictatorship of 1984-2002 and the Syndicalist dictatorship of 2002-2017, but neither made any significant adjustments to grade scales or overall organizational structure. Both regimes were content merely to steer the curriculum.

As such the system and structure was retained when revamps to the education system were first overseen by the government of Prime Minister Magnus Brandt in 2018. Curriculum would be reworked entirely to remove Syndicalist influences as well as reflect modern academic standards the world over, but the structure of the education system would remain in place.

An addition was made though, in the realm of adult education. The Civil War had resulted in many young adults and adolescents being pulled into the fighting. As a result the end of the War saw many adults and adolescents with incomplete educations. The Brandt government- taking inspiration from the Austdal government over sixty years previously- made use of their own investments and foreign aid to pay for programs to allow these individuals a means to continue their educations. It was investment in education that served Prydania well in the 1950s, and so it would again.

Prydansk Mælingarhundur

sO1Krmh.jpg

Breed Name: Prydansk Mælingarhundur | Prydanian Retriever
Measurements:
Weight: 27-34kg
Height (Shoulder): 51-61cm

Coat: A dense, lustrous, straight coat.

Colouration: Ranges from reddish gold to whitish gold.

Temperament: They are outgoing, trustworthy, and eager to please family dogs, and relatively easy to train. They take a joyous and playful approach to life and maintain this puppy-ish behaviour into adulthood. These energetic, powerful dogs enjoy outdoor play. For a breed built to retrieve waterfowl for hours on end, swimming and fetching are natural pastimes.

History: The Prydanian Retriever was bred in Krummedike, Prydania in the mid-19th century. Hunting wildfowl was a popular pastime for the local elite and the many rivers and lakes in the area required a retrieving dog that was proficient on both land and in water. Thane Georg of Krummedike and his son Thane Asbjørn bred the breed from various other tracking breeds from 1832 to 1887.

Purpose: The breed was bred to be a tracking dog proficient on both land and in water, though the breed's outgoing, gentle, and loyal temperament made them popular family dogs. The breed soon spread from the Krummedike region throughout the country, becoming a staple of the idealized rural Prydanian home. They have also proven themselves to be adapt police dogs, proving invaluable as narcotics dogs.
Today they serve all of these purposes, though the hunting of wildfowl is no longer as prevalent as it once was. Therefore it's more common to find a Retriever as a family pet or as a police dog. The Prydanian Civil War of 2002-2017 has led to a large number of feral Retrievers in the Prydanian countryside.

Auburn Channel Petroleum

Auburn Channel Petroleum (Prydansk: Auburnrás Jarðolía, Norsi: Auburn Kanál Ropa, Saintongeaise: Pétroles du canal auburn) is a multi-national company that jointly owned three ways by the governments of the Kingdom of Prydania, Empire of Norsia, and Kingdom of Saintonge.

Auburn Channel Petroleum's origins lay in the discovery of oil reserves between the Prydanian mainland and island of Stormurholmr. Prydania was long thought to be devoid of oil. This deposit, however, lay within Prydanian territorial waters. The discovery occured in the midst of the Civil War, in late 2011. Syndicalist plans to tap the deposit were not actionable due to anti-Syndicalist activity on and around Stormurholmr, Austurland, and the instability of the Syndicalist Republic of Prydania's puppet state in Korova.

The Winter Offensive in early 2013 saw Stormurholmr and Austurland cleared of Syndicalist forces. Victory in Hadden in late 2015 saw the FRE seize the entirety of the Prydanian mainland's Auburn Coast. Tapping the oil was a low priority, however, as the FRE organized a governing structure for the liberated territories, printed money, and continued the war effort.

The FRE's victory in the summer of 2017 finally brought the issue of the oil deposits to the forefront. It also highlighted the government's unwillingness to invest in the infrastructure needed to tap and extract it. Prydania had long been a breadbasket economy and the new government focused its resources and foreign aid to rehabilitating rural farms and infrastructure along with urban centres.

"The oil is there," then-Prime Minister of Prydania William Aubyn said. "If we invested in the infrastructure to tap it, it may be there for five years. Maybe even ten or twenty. It's finite though. The soil though, our agriculture. That's lasted Prydania for centuries and will last Prydania for centuries longer."
It was a matter of algebra. Prydania's resources- both on hand and in the form of foreign aid- were not unlimited. Rebuilding what was lost was seen as a more pressing priority.

It was the Norsians who broached the topic of a partnership. Norsia would develop the infastructure and extract the oil. A portion of the workforce would be Prydanian, and Prydania would get a share of the profits. It was a more long-term, co-equal plan than other would-be suitors who suggested paying a one time rights fee for the deposits.
Prydania's network of foreign aid also included the Santonians, who had invested in a number of businesses in the country. Including planned collaboration for nuclear power plants. This foray into the energy sphere brought the Santonians into contact with their Norsian counterparts and the possibilities of Auburn Channel oil being extracted for alternative energy initiatives was brought up. Saintonge reached a deal with Norsia and Prydania, where they would shoulder some of the infrastructure costs to become co-equal partners with Norsia.

Auburn Channel Petroleum was created to be jointly owned by the three countries. Its board comprises of government officials from all three, though not evenly. Prydania's share of its own reserves is less than either Saintonge or Norisa's (both of whom have equal shares) as it is not paying into the cost of infrastructure and extraction. What it does get is a 25% cut from profits of its own oil in perpetuity (subject to potential increases through renegotiations down the line), which will easily surpass any one-time rights fee offered.

Auburn Channel Petroleum is but one new initiative among many looking to rebuild and reorient Craviter's economy as decades of political instability finally come to an end.

Tóki's Kóla, Sweet Taste of the North!
Tóki's Kóla was founded by Tókiúrsk Adríel Hafnfjörð in 1905 in Hadden, Prydania. Originally marketed as "Tókiúrsk Kóla Wine," the drink's original recipe contained coca leaves and kola nuts. The drink was marketed to steel workers and ship builders in Hadden as a drink to provide energy during the work day and as a safe substitute for alcohol. This last bit cannot be overstated, as the industrial revolution lead to a push to limit alcohol consumption among the working class. It was in this environment that Tókiúrsk Kóla Wine thrived. The drink gained even more popularity in Hadden with the establishment of Midland Motors in 1916, and the expansion of the industrial working class within the city. The drink gained popularity throughout Prydania in the 1920s, and Hafnfjörð sold formula and company to Johan Stardal in 1926. Stardal's aggressive marketing campaign led the newly re-branded Tóki's Kóla being called "Prydania's second national drink" after Brennivín by 1932.

Tóki's suffered during the Fascist War due to rationing, resorting to bottling drinks in recycled glass bottles and temporarily switching ingredients to use fruit juices from fruit rinds. The Dominion's defeat turned out to be a blessing, however. Rationing was lifted and the new democratically elected government encouraged the free market with a number of economic incentives to rebound the economy in the post-war era. Tóki's Kóla would grow through the 50s, and explode to become a staple of Prydanian national identity thanks to the economic boom of the 1960s and 1970s. It was in 1958 that the mascot Tóki, a smiling man in a futuristic jump suit giving the thumbs up, was introduced.

Tóki's Kóla survived the return of fascism in 1984, in part due to the lack of wartime restrictions. Though the company's advertising, which had grown experimental and in line with the loosening of social morals in the 70s, was reverted to a more traditional message thanks to government censors. The Stardal family was all but wiped out in the Syndicalist coup of 2002. Syndicalist propaganda played up the brand's origins as a working man's drink and opted to continue its production. Though economic sanctions placed on the Syndicalist Republic meant its reach was a fraction of what it once was. In fact Tóki's international market share had been declining steadily since 1984 as more and more countries put up trade barriers in response to the previous fascist regime's government. Tóki's retained its distinctive blue cans, though Tóki the mascot featured a miner's helmet.

The assets to Tóki's were seized by the Royalist government following the collapse of the Syndicalist regime. The government auctioned the assets of the company off to Taurine Power, an energy drink company that had sprouted up in Prydania post-civil war.

Tóki's Kóla is slowly making its way back onto the international market, with it appearing as far away as Sorovia.

LáBru is a relatively modern beer. It was founded after the Civil War by Láufar Gyldenlove and Brunjólfur Dokken with a government aid business grant. The two lifelong friends saw that there was an opening to be had, with the country's two traditional brewers, Víking and Gull, recovering from fifteen years of Syndicalist management.

LáBru is sold as a cheap option, and has gained a following among the burgeoning heavy metal scene in Prydania. Detractors refer to it as "barely beer" and "water," but remains popular at its low price (each can is only x6.58) and 4.8% alcohol content.

LáBru's mascot is Beygjar the Robot (Beygjar in Vélmenni) was a cartoon doodle by Láufar. The sketch was noticed by a crowd of customers at a concert in Haland, with one patron suggesting they sell merch with the cartoon. Láufar and Brunjólfur had shirts with Beygjar the Robot holding LáBru cans a month later. He's grown into a beloved mascot for the brand.

Vestein Höj was the first child of Olav and Edith Höj. Olav worked in the lumber trade and Vestein would make toys out of wood as a child. Vestein decided to enter the toy business in 1927. He and a number of partners founded Spilvel in his hometown of Hildisey, Prydania. The name comes from the Prydanian Makari phrase "spila vel," meaning "play well."

yUSUQr5.png

Spilvel's original offerings were wooden toys, including a line of wooden block building bricks. 1935 saw the introduction of the first plastic interlocking bricks, but production was cut short in 1937 by the onset of the Fascist War due to rations on plastics. The company continued to make wooden toys until 1942, when the fascist Social Commonwealth government commandeered the factory to convert it into a munitions factory to help with the war effort.

Höj successfully petitioned the post-Social Commonwealth government for restitution as part of a government program that aimed to roll back fascist influences following the death of King Rikard VI. He re-opened the Spilvel factory and began to produce the plastic brick sets that had been popular before the war forced them to stop production. The plastic bricks became very popular, and caught the eye of foreign investors, who pumped capital into the company. This increased capital allowed Spilvel to expand into foreign markets.

Vestein died in 1956, and was succeeded by his son Carsten Höj as head of the company. Carsten's leadership saw the company's reach expand beyond the small factory his father had established and soon the small town of Hidisey was home to a significantly enlarged factory. Carseten Höj also over saw the opening of branches opened in Andrenne, Valland, Cimmeria, Mouxordia, Valencia, Hesskin, and Syrixia.
Caresten also managed to be politically adept, managing to keep the renewed Social Commonwealth Party's influences out of the company following its revival in 1984. He passed away in 1998 and was succeeded by his daughter Heidi de Rochedragon, wife of Santonian noble Charles-Ardouin Lavicomterie de Rochedragon.

Heidi and Charles-Ardouin saw the company nationalized under the Syndicalist government after the Syndicalist Coup of 2002. They were able to flee to Saintonge, where they started up a new company head office in the port city of Plaisance. This new venture was funded, in part, by the the SNIS.

oSNkGRu.png

IloZuIk.png

This led to a number of legal battles, with the nationalized Spilvel Collective Corporation in Syndicalist Prydania taking what became known as Spilvel-Plaisance to court over who controlled the various Spilvel branches in foreign countries. All foreign branches willingly re-organized under the Spilvel-Plaisance branch and all local courts had dismissed SCC's claims by 2006.

The two companies diverged in their offerings. Spilvel had traditionally offered a variety of sets. Homes, farmsteads, city scenes, sports scenes, sets based off of mythology and history, along with a few sets based off of licenced properties. Spilvel-Plaisenace continued with this line, with a more Saintonge twist, though occasional Prydanian and Andrennian Thaunnic sets were made as well.
Spilvel Collective, however, began to focus on sets that depicted idealized Syndicalist values. Sets featuring ship construction, factory work, collectivized farming, and mining. The Spilvel Collective sets were known to suffer from production defects, notably in terms of plastic quality, brick warping, and missing mini figure limbs.

Heidi and Charles-Ardouin returned to Prydania following the Royalist victory and successfully petitioned the new government to have the Prydanian branch returned in 2017. Spilvel Collective Corporation reverted to Spilvel-Hildisey. The company was once again re-organized, with various branches serving local markets. Spilvel-Plaisenace remains the company's primary headquarters, though efforts have been made to rehabilitate Spilvel-Hildisey. The Hildisey factory was operating at full capacity by the summer of 2019.

Currently the Rochedragons are primary shareholders in Spilvel, with the Saintonian SNIS holding a minority share in the company.

Spilvel presents Kanoka, a line of buildable action figures to play sets that feature the innovative 'ball-and-socket' system, giving figures more range of movement compared to classic Spilvel sets and figures. Kanoka represents a new approach by Spilvel. Kanoka will feature not just sets dedicated to characters, but will also feature an overall epic story to be told across a multimedia spectrum. The story of Kanoka focuses on a group of Omani, defenders of truth and justice in the primordial universe. Kareko, Shinsuki, Hoako, and Kai must defend the flow of life essence from the evil Nukua and his volcanic fire army.
The story is heavily based off of Kensu mythology from Skanda.

YNjYeIr.png

Spilvel's Space Safari line began in 1981, under the watchful eye of Carsten Höj. Space Safari began as a line of space themed fantasy adventure sets and quickly became one of the company's best selling lines as science-fiction took over movie theatres the world over in the early 80s.
The Space Safari line was revived to counter slumping sales with Space Safari: Inayus in 1983. The Inayus line was Spilvel's first foray into marrying fiction with their toyline. Inayus worked the previous Space Safari figures and sets into a grand epic in the Inayus galaxy, opening the way for the story to continue.

The company later purchased a small gaming company from Haland named Hvíturdvergur in 1985. Hvíturdvergur had begun to see growth with the popularity of small minifigure model sets aimed at table top gaming. Carsten Höj saw potential in the concept as Spivel began to see positive returns on their own fiction-driven Space Safari: Inayus line.
Hvíturdvergur continued its minifigure gaming operation under Spilvel until 1987. Hvíturdvergur employee Valtýr Móberg approached Höj with a concept- a Hvíturdvergur-style table top game centred around the Inayus universe.
The refresh of the Space Safari: Inayus line had begun to run its course by '87 and the company was looking into ways to keep the IP popular. Móberg offered an outside the box solution- Inayus' fiction contained many themes that Hvíturdvergur's gaming fanbase would be receptive to. And no one was doing sci-fi in table top. Höj listened. Space Safari: Inayus was phased out and Hvíturdvergur's Inayus Tabletop RPG was born. The sets proved incredibly popular, with the fiction attracting the traditional fantasy enthusiast clientele Móberg predicted would come.
Hvíturdvergur as a company had grown out of the home brew RPG table top craze of the late 70s and early 80s, and as such fostered a creative environment not just in terms of design, but also fiction. Hvíturdvergur took Spilvel's initial Space Safari: Inayus story and expanded on it greatly via short stories in monthly fan magazines and even short novels. The fascist regime that rose to power in 1984 initially dismissed such fantasy stories as irrelevant, allowing Spilvel and Hvíturdvergur a degree of creative freedom not found elsewhere in Prydania. A company restructure in 1993 resulted in Hvíturdvergur being done away with as a distinct entity, with its assets and offices absorbed into Spilvel itself. Little changed, however, and the Inaus RPG remained popular.

The Syndicalist coup of 2002 saw Spilvel split between the Syndicalist Republic-owned Spilvel Collective Corporation and the private entity now based out of Plaisance, Saintonge. Spilvel-Plaisance, run by Carsten Höj's daughter Heidi de Rochedragon and her husband Charles-Ardouin Lavicomterie de Rochedragon, continued to produce the Inayus tabletop game along with the rest of the company's traditional lineup. The Spilvel Collective Corporation continued to produce old Space Safari sets on occasion to insist it had not abandoned the property. The Syndicalist defeat saw Spilvel-Plaisance return to Prydania and re-absorb the assets of the Spilvel Collective Corporation. The Inayus tabletop RPG remains one of their more popular products outside of the traditional construction brick sets.

Inayus Races
The story of the Inayus galaxy sees players choose sets corresponding to various races.
Siezon Humans- expansionist and proud, seek to bring the light of human civilization into the darkness of the galaxy.
Mobius Humans- human-alien hybrids, peaceful and looking to spread enlightenment.
Arem Humans- Humans from Arem with a sense of honour and justice who defend the survivors of their people from the Kalorian onslaught.
Aslief- A mysterious, ancient race and friend of the Arem. Rivals of the of the Kalorians.
Grohl - Axe wielding dwarfs, they fight for the common good and are uncompromising in either their quest for glory or justice. Rivals of the Yviiri.
Kalor- Expansionist raptor reptilians who look to subjugate the galaxy to their will.
Yviiri- Multi-limbed and militaristic, they believe they alone are the inheritors of the Precursors' will and have the right to rule the galaxy.
Kyaan- The Precursors, returned to set the galaxy right- in their estimation.

What became known as Bloxorr began in 2006 under the code-name "POBloquer." The idea was the brainchild of Argant-Roland Hervé, a Spilvel engineer from Bethany who coded homebrew computer games as a hobby.
While Spilvel as a company rolled out many new products following its relocation to Plaisance, Saintonge from Hildisey, Prydania in 2002 the "POBloquer" project from 2006 was the first "major project" since the move.

Hervé, among the first of the engineering hires among the company's arrival in Saintonge, began experimenting with reproductions of Spilvel bricks in his homebrew games. The sandbox nature of the experiment convinced him that there was potential in a Spilvel-based video game "system." It was the emphasis on the term "system" that really captured Rochedragon-Höj CEO Charles-Ardouin Lavicomterie de Rochedragon's attention. Hervé was not pitching a video game per se. He was pitching a virtual Spilvel sandbox that also included a catalogue of virtual reproductions of Spilvel's popular properties. Consumers would be drawn in by the promise of video games based on Spilvel's product line but could explore the sandbox nature to build new things and share across the internet. Online gaming had just started to take off, and the promise to carve out a niche for Spilvel was too much for Rochedragon to pass up.

It was, unfortunately, delayed by a number of factors. Rochedragon-Höj did not want to over-extend the company following its relocation, and so the "POBloquer" project was not given a priority for funding. Charles-Ardouin, however, believed in the project and refused to shut it down. He told Argant-Roland to continue to develop "POBloquer" as best he could.

Spilvel continued to grow in Saintinge and "POBloquer" continued to be quietly developed. The break the project needed came in 2012. The smartphone market had grown considerably over the previous five years and smartphone gaming began to take off. The advent of mobile gaming began to eat into the market share and profits of traditional toy companies whose target demographics become more and more tied to phones and tablets rather than physical toys. Spilvel was spared to a degree as the novelty of the building block system still pushed consumers towards physical purchases, but the Rochedragon-Höj board saw the writing on the wall; toy companies would need to embrace digital space or die off.
Charles-Ardouin convinced the board to pour more money and resources into the "POBloquer" project. By 2013 Hervé presented a prototype- Bloxorr.

The first prototype was a virtual reproduction of Spilvel's football minifigures in a football game. Fun animations flashed across the screen as players could switch out the minifigures' torso pieces to choose jersey styles for each team. The demo was well-received by the R-H board and tested well with focus groups. By 2014 the game catalogue was finalized; Spilvel's licensed Bass Pro Shop, Spilvel Football featuring licences from the world's top domestic leagues, Glass Maze, Lootblox!, licensed Quatris games in both Classic and Adventures! styles, Rockband, Skeleton Invasion, and two forms of Trivia; classic and Zombie. The Zombie Trivia and Skeleton Invasion games were rumoured to be included because of Argant-Roland Hervé's love of B-movie horror flicks.

Spilvel's Bloxorr launched in time for the 2014 holiday season, on 2 November across all major platforms. The game continues to be supported today with regular patches and updates through Spilvel Gaming, a subsidiary setup to manage development and support. Bloxorr's mix of free-form play and standard gameplay in a variety of scenarios have kept it popular among children, gamers, and Spilvel fans alike.

1964
The University of Beaconsviði Experiment

1960s Prydania- the boom period. Fascist Wars? Done, over. Social Commonwealth? A bad nightmare. King Rikard VI? Been dead for years. His successor? His liberally minded son, King Robert VII. The fascists were dismantled, the power to select the Alþingi returned to the people. Soldiers returned home. They had babies. Democracy was free and open. And Prydania reconnected on the world stage. And that meant investment. The economy grew as peacetime and scientific advancements led to greater crop yields. The service industry in the bigger cities and towns began to grow. Mining, farming, automobile manufacturing. Prydania was a tiny country on the top of the world, but it was a place where you could make it.

Páll Riddari was one such person who made it. The year was 1964, and the third year journalism student/track and field athlete at the University of Beaconsviði had just sold his first pair of Ör Íþróttum (Arrow Athletics) shoes. It had taken a year to get to this point though.
Páll had a problem in 63. In fact all runners for UB's track team had problems that year. The university had installed a new urethane track. Traditional metal spikes from cleats tore the new surface up, and didn't provide much traction. And the university, which had spent a lot to install the damn track, warned the team to switch out shoe types. Problem was availability. Specialized track shoes for a variety of surfaces could be pricey, and not every uni-aged student could afford a new set. Páll's solution? If you can't afford new shoes, make them!

Well it was a bit more complex than that. Páll and his track team friend Bolli Bakkmann began thinking about a solution to the broader problem. Not just needing new shoes, but new shoes that would work on a urethane track- as well as dirt and grass. Even bark chips! All of their problems- not just the immediate one- would be solved. Páll was a journalism major- he knew what he wanted, but making it was something else. Bolli though, was majoring in chemistry. And he had a solution. His girlfriend, Bára, had just bought him a waffle iron. The idea he had, as Páll openly mused about his ideas- was too good.
Bolli grabbed the waffle iron- and Páll- and made his way down to the university lab. He poured the components of urethane into the waffle iron and presto- the rubber spikes were born. The pair constructed the rest of the prototype and realized they had something when they tested it; the rubber spikes didn't tear up the new UB track and they adjusted to all surfaces.

So fast forward. 1964. Páll and Bolli introduce Arrow Athletics. The name came from Bára, actually. She was a competitive archer. Bolli later stated he felt naming the company after her in some way was only fair- since they'd destroyed her gifted waffle iron to make the first batch of shoes!
They sold the shoes- at an affordable rate- to their track mates. The shoes took off. Not just among UB's track and field team, and not just among track and field athletes in Prydania. Basketball players, weekend hikers, moms who ran every other day to burn some spare calories- by 1972 the shoes had taken off. So much so that Bolli and Páll had chosen not to pursue their degrees beyond the undergraduate level. They were in the shoe business.

1978
Take Aim and the Legend of Lambert Fugl

The 1970s were more of the same. The economy was strong, the countryside was peaceful. And the cities were places where anyone with an idea could prosper. Arrow was prospering. They had stopped selling shoes out of the back of Páll Riddari's van by 1969. They'd dominate the sportswear market in Prydania ten years later. How? Lambert Fugl.

But first...
Hockey. Hockey is Prydania's national sport. The country's league may only have six teams, but I dare you to find any other hockey club in the world that has fans as dedicated as those six teams. So much so that each team incorporated their own "Athletic Clubs." You had each hockey team that ran rowing clubs, cycling clubs, racing clubs, football clubs, and basketball clubs. Ah basketball.

Hockey is hockey. Good luck displacing that in Prydansk. Basketball though...
It wasn't the most popular sport in Prydania, but it was the coolest.
Rewind to 1973 and the rookie season of Lambert Fugl, power forward for Midland Basketball Club. The non-hockey wings of these broader clubs often drew from local talent, and Fugl was no exception. He was a mechanic's son from Jórvík, signed right out of high school. His father couldn't afford to send him to university, but if Midland Hockey was willing to pay his son a decent wage to play for their basketball club while he figured out what to do with his life? Why not?
Thing was Fugl was dominant. He had a killer instinct on the court and was unapologetically brash. He exploited an advantage basketball had over hockey that basketball didn't even knew it had- in hockey the ice is surrounded by boards and glass, and the players wear helmets that obscures their faces. In basketball the fans are right up against the court and you can see ever expression every player makes. Fugl's trash talking, his aggressive style of play, and his colourful expressions as he played made his games a sensation. By 1976 the small arenas and gyms that hosted Prydania's basketball circuit- including a converted corporate office building in Haland- were packed. Fugl and Midland's rivalry with Katarínus Júl and Keris helped drive interest. Basketball never overtook hockey but it didn't need to. It captured the youth culture, the counterculture. Its symbols became the symbols in Prydanian popular culture.
And what brand of shoes did Lambert Fugl wear? Arrow Athletics.

The 1978 Finals between Midland and Keris saw Fugl and Júl lead their team to a combative five game series, with Midland winning a close game five to win its third championship in five years. And there was Lambert Fugl, talking to reporters from RÚV 8 with an Arrow Athletics track jacket.

1984
You Can't Have Counterculture if Culture isn't Organic

Prydania's economy began to slow down in the late 1970s. It was then that the cracks beneath the post-Fascist War recovery began to show. Prydania had never been invaded by the victorious Allies. The fascist Social Commonwealth government faltered in the face of national pressure to step down, and a broken and defeated King Richard VI didn't have the strength to insist against the national will.
Still...Social Commonwealthism was never defeated. Never discredited like its Andrennian counterpart. The diehards, and zealots, the true believers all just vanished underground. The economic slowdown though, caused them to come crawling out. Allowing them to claim that weak leadership had led not only to economic stagnation- but moral degradation! The counter culture movements of 60s and 70s Prydania brought a harsh reaction from hardcore fascists who decried the loss of "true Prydanian morals" and "true patriotic culture."
It wasn't just the far right that was spurred into relevance though. Radical elements of the Syndicalist Party began to agitate for social and political change. And soon...soon they and the SoComs began clashing in the streets.

Then it happened. The summer of 1984. A bomb planted by radical Syndicalists detonated, killing King Robert VII, his wife, Queen Loke, and their eldest son Crown Prince Baldr and his wife, Lisse. Additional assassination attempts against Robert VII's two other sons- Prince Anders and Prince Robert- proved less successful, but the country was thrown into shock. It was in that shock that Prince Anders ascended to the throne as King Anders III.
New Alþingi elections were mandated by a royal succession. Maybe it was Syndicalist involvement in the assassination of the King. Maybe they just didn't have PR that could make the revived Social Commonwealth Party when they claimed victim- even when they started an altercation- anytime a riot broke out. Maybe Stefan Toft just really knew how to connect to a crowd. Regardless, Prydania had a new king, and it had a Social Commonwealth Prime Minister.

The thing about culture, you see, is that it's organic. Or it should be. It grows from people, it grows from entertainment. It grows...from life. And in that way counter-culture is organic too. The two aren't actually enemies, despite the name. Culture and counter-culture feed each other. They dance with each other. They inform each other. And counter-culture was where Arrow made their money. It's what made basketball cool, what made Lambert Fugl a cultural icon, what made shoes suddenly a fashion statement and not just something you bought because you needed them.

All of that changed in the summer of 1984. Anders III and Stefan Toft. Truly a match made in heaven. Or hell, if we're being honest. Their autocratic tendencies lined up. Their belief in the need to revive "the patriotic Prydania" of ages past lined up. Prydanian culture- which had been evolving ever since the Loðbrók-led viking clans from Andrenne first began to interact with the Bayardi and AK- suddenly stagnated. These weren't just new fascists. These were fascists informed by their past failings, and they truly believed that culture had to be controlled if they were going to survive.

Of course other things led to Arrow's declining profile in the 80s and 90s. Governments not willing to do business with the fascist government in Prydania saw declining export sales. SoCom protectionist policies led to foreign consumers having less access to Prydanian goods. Beyond that though- when culture becomes curated it becomes empty. It's ironic in a way. The same cultural purity the SoCom fascists wanted to return was never pure. The Prydania they clung to from ages past was just as dynamic culturally as the Prydania of the 1960s and 1970s. Yet they didn't see it like that, being blinded by a nationalized sense of nostalgia.
Counter culture dried up. Popular culture became a barren wasteland of whatever the government promoted or deemed "suitable." And Arrow's appeal- as a lifestyle brand, as something you bought so you could have some attitude- vanished.

Bolli Bakkmann and Páll Riddari had never agreed politically despite their friendship and business partnership. Bolli was a Bandalag man and Páll voted Free Democrat. It's sad that one thing they could agree on- opposition to the Social Commonwealth regime- wasn't possible. It was in 2002 that the two admitted on Syndicalist Republic-run television that the Social Commonwealth government had threatened them into silence. To "make your shoes and shut up."

2002
The People's Shoes

The Social Commonwealth regime lurched until 2002, and the writing was on the wall. The opposition parties were agitating for change and the country was set on edge politically. No one knew what would happen next.

And then the Syndicalist Party gunned down most of the Alþingi. Most of the royal family was executed on live tv and suddenly over nine-hundred and seventy years of Loðbrók rule came to an end. Prydania was a Syndicalist Republic. Just another stop on the wheel of dictatorship.

Arrow was spared direct nationalization as a result of their reputation for fair labour practices and friendly relations with their Syndicalist-affiliated union. Instead the factories were nationalized and the union was brought under government control, but Arrow could exist as a "private firm" that leased the factories from the government. There was a catch though- Arrow's product output could be dictated by the government at any time. Bolli Bakkmann and Páll Riddari were spared the fate of death, imprisonment, or exile many in their situation faced, though their lives became very prison-like in their own ways.

Not much changed, of course. The early revolutionary excitement faded as it became clear that a Syndicalist dictatorship was just as keen on keeping power as the Social Commonwealth dictatorship they had replaced. Perhaps even more so. The SoComs of '84 had been smart- they understood the past. And they knew what they needed to do to hang onto power. They managed it as long as they could through brutal repression. The Syndicalist Party had to harden or it would die, and it did the former.
A brutal authoritarian state of the leftist variety was no more conducive to the free flow of ideas than an right wing authoritarian state, and Arrow quietly sat there, making cheap shoes, cheap athletic wear, and not innovating. Not like it used to.

2017
Aiming Upwards

The private firm arrangement lasted until 2008. Bolli Bakkmann and Páll Riddari- both aged sixty-four at the time- were forcibly bought out by the government. Arrow reverted to state control and the two were essentially placed under house arrest in Beaconsviði.
Arrow continued under state management, with a number of its factories switching to military footware as the government began to be dragged further and further into the civil war with the various Royalist militias that had sprung up in the wake of the 2002 coup. Arrow goods on the open market became scarce as the Syndicalist government pushed further to a war footing.

The war ended in the late spring of 2017 with a restoration of the Loðbrók dynasty, but not the SoCom dictatorship. Prydania's new government opened the nation up again, dismantling the cycle of party dictatorships that had begun in 1984. Bolli Bakkmann, however, didn't live to see the very end. He died of a heart attack during the Battle of Beaconsviði at the age of seventy-three. Bára, just two years younger, joined Páll in taking back control of the company. Páll sold out in exchange for compensation for the nationalization in 2008 while Bára chose to forgo said compensation to keep control of the company.

Bára Bakkmann now controlled the company that was named after her archery from her younger years, and she set out plans to revive Arrow. Cheap shoes were manufactured for those who had next to nothing following the fifteen years of fighting. Bára took the company back to its roots, making cheap but reliable shoes that weren't flashy but did the job. Arrow got a new logo two years later, symbolizing a sense of renewal. An archer aiming an arrow upwards.

Where is Arrow Athletics now? It's not chasing its trendsetting days. That's not in the cards just yet. It is transitioning though. From cheap shoes for people who have nothing to specialized athletic footwear once more, as the economic situation improves. In a country where sport is an escape from the horrors of war? And where wounded national pride focuses on what it can call its own? Arrow Athletics is there. Once more a presence on the soccer pitch, the basketball court, or in track and field. It will grow in time. Like the country whose opportunity made it possible back on that track in 1964.

Taka Mið!

City of Býkonsviði/Borg Býkonsviði

Population: 2,057,737
The City of Býkonsviði is the capital of the Kingdom of Prydania. Its status as the capital dates back to Vortgyn Loðbrók's conquest of the Bayardi lands in 1029. The newly crowned King Vortgyn I chose the city as his capital to better administer the Bayrdi lands, leaving the castle of Stormurholmr to his son Tobias to rule as Grand Thane.

Archaeology in Býkonsviði reveals human habitation dating to the Stone Age. The city of Bakenveld grew up as a Bayardi settlement, described in Bayardi sources as a "beacon" on the "field by the sea."
The city's port and proximity to the Ryon River made Bakenveld a wealthy trading centre, allowing it to assert its independence from the control of the coalescing Bayardi Kingdom.
The city was governed by a council of wealthy tradesmen and nobles who appointed a Marshal to oversee the city's safety and military defences. The tenure of a Marshal was inconsistent. Some Marshals served for life, others served for a decade, some more, some less. It appears as if the Marshal's ability to hold their post depended on their ability to maintain the favour of the Council who appointed them.

Absalon Rosk was the Marshal of Bakenveld during the arrival of Goyanean and Ceretian Monks to northern Craviter in the mid 900s. Absalon's conversion to Messianism roughly corresponds to the date that Kaldor Loðbrók of Stormurholmr converted.
Absalon's conversion was in line with a broader conversion of the Bakenveld populace. He began a building project to construct a castle in the heart of the city along the Ryon River. Absalonkastali- Absalon's Castle- was mostly completed by the early 1000s. Soon thereafter the Courantist Church canonized Absalon.

In 1014 Vortgyn Loðbrók of Stormurholmr raised a host and landed in Austurland, the eastern part of the land the Bayadri called Prydein. The Nordic name revealed its nature. The Austurland had been settled by viking clans loyal to the Loðbróks, who held sway from the island of Stormurholmr. All of whom had come in the mid-late 800s as they fled from Oswald the Conqueror in their home of Andrenne.

Vortgyn Loðbrók, at the age of 16, looked to re-assert Loðbrók control of the viking lands. Some clans, such as the Eiderwigs, came loyally when Vortgyn called. Others resisted. Vortgyn was not afraid to wage war and he eventually bent the resistant viking clans to his will, earning him the title Lord Protector of Austurland.
Vortgyn's ambition, however, wasn't merely to reassert Loðbrók control over the viking clans of Heorot. He wanted to conquer all of Prydein, or Prydansk as his people called it in their tongue. Vortgyn led a unified army of the viking clans against the Bayardi Kingdom. The war this started lasted until 1029, when the Bayardi King Bram's host was defeated by Vortgyn's host at the Loðbrók outpost of Stormurhöfn.

Vortgyn marched on Bakenveld and issued his demands. Bakenveld would retain its independent character in his new Kingdom if they accepted him as King. The city Council agreed, granting Vortgyn and his heirs the office of Marshal in perpetuity. Vortgyn decided to make the city his capital as it provided an ideal position to administer the newly won Bayardi lands. He was crowned King of Prydania by the Bishop of Erkiengill on Christmas Day 1029 in Bakenveld. In time Bakenveld became Býkonsviði as the Nordic Prydanian language supplanted the Bayardi language. Vortgyn took up residence in Absalonkastali, which grew to become Absalonhöll (Absalon's Palace) as it was built up over the following centuries.
To this day the Court of the Prydanian Crown is referred to as the Court of St. Absalon despite the Bayardi nature of the namesake.

Býkonsviði did retain its own distinct autonomy within the unified Kingdom of Prydania. Prydanian Kings continued to hold the title Marshal of Býkonsviði and the city Council continued to administer the city independent of the rest of the Kingdom. The city even maintains a special member of Parliament that is allowed to opt it out of select types of legislation.

The city has remained the capital through the many changes to Prydania's political situation as well. It remained the nominal capital of both Prydanian subdivisions during the UKAG era where Prydanian Kings reigned locally under the UKAG Grand Emperor and High King. And it remained the capital during the Syndicalist Republic era.

The capture of Býkonsviði marked the end of the Prydanian Civil War in the spring of 2017. The city was badly damaged as a result of the battle, though it was built up relatively quickly thanks to foreign aid and concentrated construction projects. The city has not yet fully recovered from the war or the battle that ended it, but the more overt damage has been cleaned up, infrastructure is improving, and the city's streets have begun to bustle once more.

City of Stormurholmr/Borg Stormurholmr

Population: 228,011
Stormurholmr, or Tempest Holm in Mercanti, actually refers to two places. The first is the island of Tempest Holm, sitting in the Auburn Channel between Prydania and Korova. The second is the actual city of Tempest Holm, the location of the castle Stormurkastala (Tempest Keep). The island of Tempest Holm contains a few townships, but we will be focusing on the actual city of Stormurholmr and the Stormurkastala building.

Stormurholmr is named as such because Hróarr Loðbrók, exiled lord of the Andrennian petty kingdom of Heorot, is said to have found the island in a storm after fighting his way along the northern coast of what is now Prydania. Hróarr's followers settled in the eastern regions of what is now Prydania, battling the native Aed Kaene for dominance and eventually prevailing. Most viking clans who followed Hróarr settled on the eastern mainland to the west, an area that would become known as Austurland.
Hróarr oversaw the construction of the castle Stormurkastala on Stormurholmr. The new castle served as the seat of Loðbrók power following the loss of Heorot to Oswald the Conqueror in Andrenne. A town began to grow up around the castle in short order.

Loðbrók lords continued to hold the title King of Heorot in defiance of Oswald, pairing the title with Grand Thane of Stormurholmr. The most notable of these lords before Vortgyn was Kaldor Loðbrók who, in 956, converted to Messianism, culminating the conversion of the vikings in what is now Prydania.

Vortgyn Loðbrók was crowned King of Heorot and Grand Thane of Stormurholmr in 1014, at the age of sixteen. Vortgyn was not content to reign from his family's island outpost, nor was he content with the title of King of a kingdom his family no longer ruled. He landed in the Austurland in 1014, calling the banners of the viking lords that dotted the eastern reaches of the land the native Bayardi called Prieden. A name the vikings turned into "Prydansk."
Some lords came, others defied him. The Loðbróks before Vorgtyn had grown complacent and some viking lords on the mainland scoffed at the idea of answering the call to an unproven sixteen year old boy.
Vortgyn, however, was ready to meet them in battle. He gathered his host of those who answered his call and made war on the defiant viking clans and lords, subduing them to the will of Stormurholmr once more. Vortgyn then had himself named Lord Protector of Austurland. By specifying "Austurland" Vortgyn declared that he had designs on the west- ie the rest of Prydansk. The war with the Bayardi Kingdom that followed lasted over a decade. Finally, in 1029, the Bayardi were crushed. Vortgyn had himself crowned King of Prydania and chose to rule from Bakenveld (later to become known as Beaconsviði as the Nordic name took prominence) to better control the Bayardi holdings.

Choosing to rule from Bakenveld rather than Stormurholmr caught many of his closest Thanes off guard. Still, Vortgyn assured them that Austurland would not be neglected. He named his son Tobias Grand Thane of Stormurholmr. This began the tradition of the reigning monarch of Prydania granting the title to their heir, usually a first born son.

Stormurholmr remained a quiet town on a forested island outpost until the formation of UKAG in the 1640s. Erik III of Prydania recognized that the newly unified Andrennian-Goyanean empire would attempt to subdue all Nordic outposts. Already the Kanadas were beginning to resist. Erik VI, to save his crown, submitted peacefully to UKAG, even surrendering the title King of Heorot. In return he and his heirs would rule Prydania under the Grand Emperor and High King of UKAG.

Stormurholmr was thrown into chaos in 2002. The Syndicalists were weakest in the east of Prydania, and never fully controlled the island of Stormurholmr, though they did secure the city for a period of five years from 2002-2007. One of the FNU's first real victories was to force the Syndicalist government in Stormurholmr to abandon the city and castle, leaving the island in FNU hands for the rest of the Civil War. Some contemplated having the twelve year old Prince Tobias crowned as King at Stormurkastala, though it was decided that any coronation would have to come in the event of Syndicalist defeat.

Stormurholmr remains quiet now that the Civil War is over, the eastern-most Prydanian territory. Its symbolic importance remains, however.

Political Parties of Prydania

MtihMua.png

Party Name: Íhaldsflokkurinn | Conservative Party
Founded: 1843
Party Colours: Blue Red
Political views of the party:
Classical conservative, right of centre, monarchist, social conservatism (some factions), pragmatism (some factions)
Number of seats in the Alþingi: 50/187
Leader: Sören Högh
History:
The Conservative Party was formed in 1843 and is technically the oldest political party in Prydania, though the Free Democrats were formed from parties that were around just as long. The Conservatives trace their origins to the pro-Court faction within the Alþingi during the reign of King Robert II (1575-1620). Historically the Conservatives, and their Courtly Party predecessors, stood for the religious compact between Messianists and Thaunics, a strong monarch, and support for the aristocracy.
More recently the party has come to stand for the urban upper class, support for the Laurenist Church, low taxes, and fiscal responsibility. Beginning in the 1890s they formed an electoral alliance with the Agrarian Party, forming the Conservative-Agrarian Alliance, (Íhalds-Landbúnað Bandalag). As a consequence the Conservatives essentially retreated from the countryside, relying on the Agrarians in those regions and becoming a purely urban party.
William Aubyn, party leader during the Syndicalist Coup of 2002, went on to lead the Front of National Unity (FRE), the main body of anti-Syndicalist resistance. Aubyn would go on to lead the post-Civil War Provisional Government as Prime Minister. Aubyn led the Conservative-Agrarian Alliance into the 2018 elections (the first free elections in Prydania in over thirty years) but lost a close election to Magnus Brandt and the Free Democratic Party.
The Conservatives served as part of the Official Opposition following the 2018 election, and broke with the Agrarian Party over Agrarian Party and Coalition leader Tenna Nygaard over her actions regarding the Thorbjörn Höjsleth/Prydania Today scandal and ties to foreign agents.
They returned to government following the 2021 elections, despite falling to the Alþingi's third party. They formed a coalition with upstart party Peace not Blood as a junior partner, with Conservative leader Sören Högh becoming Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Foreign Affairs.

Party Name: Landbúnaðarflokkurinn | Agrarian Party
Founded: 1849
Party Colours: Green Yellow Gold
Political views of the party:
Agrarianism, localism, monarchist, social conservatism (some factions)
Number of seats in the Alþingi: 0/187
Leader: Björn Laksáfoss
History:
As the pro and anti courtly parties of the Alþingi coalesced into the Conservative and Liberal parties during the 1840s a new movement began to grow in the countryside. Rural townsfolk and farmers, feeling both factions in the Alþingi only represented the political and social elite, began advocating for their interests. The Agrarian Party formed in 1849, one year after the 1848 elections. The party tended to align with the emergent Conservative Party in preferring the Messianist/Thaunic Compact over the Liberals' support for total freedom of religion, but were far more willing to advocate for market intervention to support agriculture and investment in rural infrastructure. The Agrarian Party was small at first, but grew to the point that they were actively dominating parts of the countryside. In 1890 they entered into an electoral pact with the Conservative Party, forming the Conservative-Agrarian Alliance (Íhalds-Landbúnað Bandalag).
It was an interesting arrangement. Their economic progressiveness pulled the Conservative Party towards the centre. As a junior partner to the more established Conservatives they formed a number of Alliance governments, though rarely leading the government. There have only been two Agrarian Prime Ministers in history. Ragnfast Backe served as Prime Minister from 1951-1954, leading a grand coalition government following the fall of the first Social Commonwealth fascist dictatorship. The second Agrarian Prime Minister was Yngvild Folland, who served as Prime Minister from 1969-1970. She served as Prime Minister to finish out the term of Gudvær Hillestad's Conservative government following Hillestad's untimely death. Yngvild Folland was also Prydania's first- and only- female Prime Minister.
The Agrarians joined with the Free Democrats and Conservatives in supporting the anti-Syndicalist resistance led by the FRE. Agrarians served alongside those parties and the People's Party in the post-Civil War Provisional Government. Following the Conservative-Agrarian Alliance's slim defeat to the Free Democrats in the 2018 election Conservative leader William Aubyn resigned. Agrarian Party leader Tenna Nygaard, who managed to win leadership following her return to Prydania after the War, assumed interim leadership of the Alliance. Nygaard was able to hold onto Alliance leadership even after Sören Högh succeeded Aubyn as Conservative leader, and served as leader of the Official Opposition in the Alþingi. The Alliance fractured under her leadership, however, when she attempted to use the Thorbjörn Höjsleth/Prydania Today incident as an excuse to pivot towards national populism. A number of younger Agrarian ÞMs defected from her caucus, eventually joining Peace not Blood. A social movement that grew into a political party. Then she forcibly broke the Agrarians off from the Alliance when the Conservative Party voted to oust her from leadership. The Agrarians limped into the 2021 elections, losing all seats to Peace not Blood challengers. In the aftermath of the electoral wipe-out Nygaard was removed from the party as it attempted to redefine itself.

Party Name: Frjáls Lýðræðislegflokkurinn Prydansk | Free Democratic Party of Prydania
Founded: 1954
Party Colours: Gold Black
Political views of the party:
Classical liberal, centre, left of centre, constitutional monarchist
Number of seats in the Alþingi: 55/187
Leader: Maríanna Toft
History:
Though founded in 1954 the Free Democratic Party of Prydania traces its heritage as far back as the Conservatives. The Liberal Party was formed in 1842, one year prior to the Conservative Party's formation, and emerged from the anti-court faction in the Alþingi. They won the 1848 elections and proceeded to enact universal suffrage and ushered in complete freedom of religeon. They were, however, unable to disestablish the Laurenist Church or rid the Alþingi of un-elected peer seats.
In time the Liberal Party grew to represent the middle classes and wealthy farmers, opposed the Church involving itself in state affairs, and believed in a strong democratic Alþingi. Whereas the Conservatives entered into an alliance with the Agrarians the Liberals used relationships with the wealthier landed farmers to establish their own rural voting base. This set up the Conservative-Agrarian Alliance and Liberal Party as the two dominant factions prior to the advent of the Syndicalist Party. The Syndicalist Party itself was formed in part due to the Liberal Party's hesitation to embrace workers' rights as a central party policy plank.
The Liberals faced a challenge from newer centrist parties during the 1920s, as the Centre Party and Reform Party broke off, both of which viewed the Liberals as having stagnated in the face of rising domestic fascism. The party, like all non-fascists forces, was suppressed during the first Social Commonwealth fascist regime but emerged to prominence following defeat at the end of the Fascist War in 1951. Following the end of the FW the Reform, Liberal, Centre Parties re-formed, and christened their new political force the Free Democratic Party of Prydania. They would go on to victory in the 1954 election, with Kristvin Austdal becoming Prime Minister. Austdal and King Robert VII were both seen as the architects of the post-FW recovery of the country. The Free Democrats, Conservative-Agrarian Alliance, and Syndicalists became the three primary forces in post-FW Prydanian politics, until the re-birth of the Social Commonwealth fascist movement in 1984.
In 1993 the party elected Gætir Ravn, a Prydanian Shaddaist, as leader in stark defiance of the reigning Social Commonwealth fascist regime. Ravn would be gunned down by Syndicalists with most of the Alþingi during the Syndicalist Coup in 2002, though the party itself would support the FRE during the Civil War. The Free Democrats served in the post-Civil War Provisional Government, but opted not to join the Conservative-Agrarian Alliance as a permanent third member. Instead Magnus Brandt, a FRE diplomat and Prydania's first ambassador to the PGU, became the Free Democratic Party's leader. He led the party into the 2018 election, the first free national election in Prydania in over thirty years, promising to modernize the country and provide a written, codified constitution to the restored Kingdom. Brandt's message resonated and he won a slim victory over the war hero William Aubyn and his Conservative-Agrarian Alliance.
Brandt's government laid foundations for economic recovery, investing in infrastructure, housing, education, and the economy. Brandt's government also codified legalized same-sex marriage, housing reform, established trade councils for workers and management to peacefully work out disputes, and began the process of codifying a constitution for the Kingdom of Prydania to enshrine the political freedoms and democratic system of government so many had fought and died for in the Civil War. Negotions with King Tobias III resulted in a document that both passed the Alþingi and was approved by a majority of the electorate in a national referendum. Brandt retired from a life of public service, including fifteen years as a leader during the Civil War, having achieved his greatest accomplishment in setting Prydania on the path to recovery.
Brandt's Minister of Defence Reynir Aaker took over as the government and party reached record high approval ratings. Aaker, however, was ousted by Maríanna Toft in an internal coup. Maríanna Toft, daughter of the last fascist PM of Prydania, sought to make a name for herself in the post-Civil War era and hoped she could ride the party's good will to an electoral victory.
In the end the Free Democrats won the most seats out of any party with fifty-five, but both lost the popular vote and ended up losing thirty-seven seats in total. A sure electoral victory turned into a major loss as the upstart Peace not Blood party swept the countryside. In the end no one party won a majority. Toft was able to hang on as party leader but she was forced to settle for Opposition Leader. Peace not Blood and the Conservatives formed a coalition.

Party Colours: Red Yellow
Political views of the party:
Social democracy (some factions), democratic socialism (some factions), social justice (some factions), left wing, constitutional monarchist
Number of seats in the Alþingi: 25/187
Leader: Annie Gram
History:
Like the Free Democrats the People's Party claims a lineage that stretches back beyond their official founding. The People's Party was formed in late 2016, growing out of the Popular Movement. The Popular Movement was a movement of moderate Syndicalists who felt the Syndicalist Republic regime had grown too extreme, and who were morally aghast at its litany of human rights abuses. The Popular Movement worked in conjuncture with the FRE to oppose the Syndicalist Republic. Annie Gram, a protege former Syndicalist Republic Minister for Press and Media Mattias Hagelin, came to lead the group as both a source of resistance against the Syndicalist Republic and as a home for those who felt betrayed by the actions of the Syndicalist regime. As the Civil War drew to a close the Popular Movement formally announced the creation of the People's Party to serve as the group's political vehicle in a post-Civil War society. The People's Party participated in William Aubyn's provisional government.
Gram and the People's Party didn't fare too well in the 2018 elections, winning only two seats. Yet the result wasn't that discouraging. Lingering Syndicalist baggage meant it was always going to be a tough first election. Gram and the rest of the party set to work on growing the movement. The focus was the traditional Syndicalist heartlands of the mining region of Krummedike and the working class urban centres.
In fact that Syndicalist legacy was something the People's Party wanted to redefine. While the rejected the violent political repression of Thomas Nielsen and the Syndicalist Republic they emrbaced the legacy of Rune Leth. Leth served as Prime Minister from 1921-1931 and became known as the father of the Prydanian welfare state. He also expanded the Syndicalist Party's base from urban workers to rural workers, small homesteaders, and the professional middle class. While his big tent vision of the Syndicalist Party didn't endure his positive legacy did. It was that legacy, the one before the turn to authoritarian oppression, that the People's Party wishes to claim.
The 2021 election was a success in some ways. The party swept most of Krummedike and grabbed seats in the working class districts of Hadden and Býkonsviði. Their election night total of twenty-five seats was a huge step up from the previous two. Yet they failed to make further headway into Keris beyond a single by-election pickup and they were utterly shutout in Austurland the central regions, the regions that received the brunt of Syndicalist abuses. Still, the party has proven that it has staying power and has provided a home for the left wing in Prydania's new democratic structure in a post-Civil War landscape.

Party Name: Friður ekki Blóð | Peace not Blood
Founded: 2020
Party Colours: Pink Navy Gold Lavander Teal Sky Blue
Political views of the party:
"Peace-first" politics, neutrality, centrism, anti-Syndicalism, anti-fascism, big tent, social conservatism, "ordered liberalism," social market economics, constitutional monarchist
Number of seats in the Alþingi: 57/187
Leader: Kjell Svane
History:
Peace not Blood was founded as a social movement in late 2019 by Rósalind Brúnsteð and Trym Varvik of Keris. It was created in the wake of the Messianic League Crisis. Named after the song by Fascist War-era Prydanian anti-war songwriter Kristbjörn Eskfjörð, Peace not Blood found support among teenagers and young adults who had grown up during the Syndicalist era and Civil War and wanted peaceful solutions to Prydania's issues. Peace not Blood grew steadily but quietly until the Second Ducrijekan War in Gothis. The Free Democratic government of Magnus Brandt pledged support for the Andrennian invasion and sent a contingent of anti-insurgency troops to aid in the war effort. Peace not Blood loudly protested to Prydania's entry into the War. Their sentiments were echoed by Thorbjörn Höjsleth, a Prydanian refugee-turned Santonian citizen-turned Santonian National Assembly member. The resulting Thorbjörn Höjsleth/Prydania Today situation led to Peace not Blood publicly declaring their support for him as he recovered from the stabbing attack.
When Tenna Nygaard, leader of the Agrarian Party and Conservative-Agrarian Alliance, publicly went after Höjsleth Ísgeir Aðaldal, a ÞM from Höjsleth's home town, publicly resigned from the Agrarian Party. Nygaard's increasing turn to the national populist side drove even more young Agrarian ÞMs to join Aðaldal as independents. Finally, just before Nygaard was deposed leader of the Official Opposition, Aðaldal became the first member of the Alþingi to register as "Peace not Blood." The other independents followed his lead, with Bersi Langseth becoming the caucus' first Alþingi leader.
In 2021, with an early election looking more and more imminent, Peace not Blood reached out to Kjell Svane. Svane was a former FRE ambassador and, recently, a two-term chancellor of the Pan-Gotic Union who had earned a degree of positive notoriety for negotiating a peaceful solution to the Andrenne-Goyanes-Ajovulka territorial dispute. Svane was recruited to serve as the party's leader for the next election and Svane set out to build a team. Led by Dr. Lúðvík Erheorot, an economics professor at the University of Býkonsviði known for championing social market principals, Svane built a leadership team for Peace not Blood that actively raised the party's profile. While the party enjoyed a groundswell of support among young people Svane's leadership and his team gave the party a sense of legitimacy when it came to potentially governing.
The plan worked. The October 2021 election not only saw Peace not Blood take over all Agrarian seats, but also the vast majority of rural Free Democratic Party seats, as well as a few key Conservative holdings in urban areas. Though they only won fifty-four seats to the Free Democratic Party's fifty-five, Peace not Blood won the popular vote and ended up forming a coalition government with the Conservative Party that saw Svane become Prime Minister.
The party has proven difficult to define by foreign observers. In a broad sense the party emphasizes what it calls "peace-first politics" but rejects the term "pacificist," declaring they are ready and willing to use force to defend Prydania and Prydanians. The party is also a young and idealistic mass movement that skews towards the conservative side of things, as the generation that makes up its support base came of age under the boot of Syndicalist authoritarianism. Yet economically it supports social market principals and has been agressive in enacting "ordered liberalism" and social market theory since forming the government. Its this social market ideology and an ideological distaste for Syndicalism, as well as their support for Thorbjörn Höjsleth, that allowed them to supplant the Agrarians as the party of rural Prydania. The question is...will they look to supplant their Conservative coalition partners too? And if so... what does the future hold there?

Party Name: Bayardi Aksie Party | Bayardi Aðgerðflokkurinn | Bayardi Action Party
Founded: 2021
Party Colours: Black Red
Political views of the party:
Bayardi interests, localism, Bayardi autonomy, Jórvík autonomy (some factions), Jórvík independence (some factions), Bayardi cultural promotion
Number of seats in the Alþingi: 0/187
Leader: Ruan Vosloo
History:
The Bayardi Action Party was formed in 2021 by a former Social Commonwealth Jórvík functionary Ruan Vosloo. Vosloo formed the party as a vehicle to run for an Alþingi seat in the city of Jórvík after being denied entry into both the Free Democratic and Agrarian Parties. Though he came in last in the field he none the less continued to promote the party. The BAP largely flew under the radar. Bayardi have traditionally not been discriminated against in Prydanian history and have enjoyed broad cultural autonomy. To the point that Bayardi were one of the most loyal bases of support for the FRE during the Civil War.
Still, BAP made a small splash with a bold, forceful social media campaign. The party's visibility was once again raised when a Jórvík restaurant owner Christoffel van Schalkwyk was nominated by the party to stand for the election of Lord Mayor of Jórvík. As part of his announcement van Schalkwyk quoted xenophobic Santonian politician François-Louis Villault, who claimed Prydanian refugees were trying to overrun Saintonge like they did to the Bayardi, citing King Vortgyn I's victory over the Bayardi in 1029.
The party is, above all else, a vehicle for the elusive figure that is Ruan Vosloo. The party has espoused both the position that it merely wants greater cultural autonomy for the province of Jórvík and that it wants total independence. It has also stated that it will both stay committed to local Bayardi politics while also hinting at running for the national Alþingi.
Presently the party is primarily an antagonistic force, appealing to a fringe element of Bayardi society.

Heimviður Furniture/Heimviður Húsgögn

Ingþór Habekost of Býkonsviði was a low-level Syndicalist Outer Party member who worked in the civil service as an office manager for the capital's wing of the Party. His job was not glamorous as he merely kept the bureaucracy running for Býkonsviði Syndicalist Party Chairman Karel Sonnensen, who was convicted in 2018 for his role in the anti-Shaddaist pogroms of the summer of 2015.

"We were all on edge over that," Habekost said.
"I was a glorified paper pusher, and I didn't even know about it until it was happening. Afterwards Sonnensen came in with his top staff, and said 'this is the party line, if you don't like it take it to Leiftur.' What could I do?" Habekost said.

How much he knew about the Pogroms and what role he played in them is still speculated on by a few. What is known is that he testified against Sonnensen at his trial and that as an Outer Party member he was granted a pardon by the King- he didn't need to make a deal for his testimony. Further, he's far from an ideological Syndicalist.

Habekost's father, Jesper Habekost, was a member of the civil service that was rebuilt by the government of Prime Minister Kristvin Austdal after the Fascist War. Like most middle class bureaucrats Jesper was a Free Democratic voter, though not overtly political. Ingþór followed in his father's footsteps, entering the civil service at the age of twenty one in 2002- the year the Syndicalists couped. The Syndicalist Party absorbed much of the civil service. Those who would go along anyway.

"I wasn't a Syndicalist but, like Pabbi, I was apolitical. They kept me on. Those were chaotic times, so I did what I could. I joined the Party, secured a position. It was insanity, and having a secure government job was...well...the best you could hope for, I suppose. I didn't make waves. I probably should have, it's easy to say that I probably should have, but I didn't."

Habekost was thirty-six when the Civil War ended. His pardon came two months after hostilities ended and he seemed to be in a good place.

"The new government, like the Syndies fifteen years earlier, needed people. I was in a good position. Again, I did what I could do. I took a post in the Ministry of the Interior."

That job was where Habekost had a realization. The Prydanian Skógurland is the vast forested area that covers southern and eastern Prydania. And Habekost saw an opportunity.

"The Skógurland was mostly in FRE control since 2013. The rest since 2014. The Syndicalist government couldn't engage in forestry. Lord knows they would have screwed that up- look at what they did to agriculture- but it was untapped. The FRE who controlled it was too busy fighting a war. They weren't tapping that resource either. The new government after the War saw it as a source of revenue. Forestry had been a strong sector of the Prydanian economy in the years between the Fascist War ending and the second Social Commonwealth government in '84, so it stood to reason that responsibly controlled forestry could again be a good prospect. So that got me thinking...who are they going to sell to?"

All of the paper mills and furniture companies that had existed before the Syndicalist coup were nationalized and put under direct state control. Compensation existed, but for many families the old guard who last ran the businesses were gone- dead and buried. Many took the assets, sold them, or just took a cheque from the government instead. Habekost capitalized.

"I saw an opportunity. Salbjörg Buttedahl's father Edvard owned Múrsteinninn, an old furniture manufacturer. She had deeds to land for logging, she had deeds to old factories, but no real idea what to do. She wanted to sell. So I bought," Habekost explained.

He bought with money raised from two sources- the Prydanian government which was giving out loans to jumpstart businesses in the aftermath of the war, and from foreign investors. It was his concept for retail that managed to win the foreigners over.

"I looked around at the state of the country a year or so after the War was over. People were trying to pick up their lives, and I thought.... 'let's make it affordable and easy.'"

That was business pitch, a furniture store that kept costs low and assembly easy.

"The idea was you'd go to the store, see something you like, and you'd get it in a box you could take home. You didn't need to schedule delivery," Habekost said. "And you didn't need to pay an arm and a leg. You would get everything- screws and all- in that box."

The government of Magnus Brandt that was elected in 2018 inherited the forestry plans of the provisional government of William Aubyn and implemented them with little deviation- sustainable forestry as a strong sector of the Prydanian economy.

"The government had regrowth and replanting goals, they had quotas we weren't to exceed, we had workers' rights laws to abide by. And hey, it was all fine by me. Sali and I..." Ingþór and Salbjörg were engaged by late 2018, "...wanted to build a business. You can't build a sustainable furniture manufacturer if the trees all die, right?" Habekost said.

The new company was named Heimviður- Home Wood. The first store was opened in Býkonsviði in 2019, and matched Habekost's vision. Customers enter to a showroom area before collecting a shopping cart to go to the Market Hall. It's there that smaller items such as home appliances are purchasable. The Market Hall also has the Warehouse Desk, where the furniture sets in the show room are available for purchase. Clerks take orders and return with the boxes filled with the pieces needed to make the sets.

"It took off," Salbjörg said.
"I loved to see it, because we used Pabbi's old storefront in Býkonsviði for it. It's a new company, but it's got that history there. I don't think Pabbi would know what to make of Ingþór's layout, but he'd probably say 'if it works it works!'"

And it has worked. A second Býkonsviði store was opened in mid 2020, with a store in Hadden opening in early 2021.

"We have plans for Keris, Stormurholmr, Haland, and Alaterva," Habekost has said.
"We've even gotten some international feelers. People who see the model, like it, and want to export it. We're going to do it smart though. Grow when we can, and where we can."

The Habekosts- Ingþór and Salbjörg are now married- are also innovating. The original Býkonsviði store was expanded to make room for a Zambonis Pizzu. The Prydanian pizza chain started by a Predician immigrant has proven very popular and now provides Heimviður shoppers with a chance at lunch. The Hadden store was built with the Zambonis already installed.

Additionally Heimviður has become a leading partner in the government's sustainable forestry initiatives.

"We're very proud of our forests in this country," Habekost said.
"I knew that even growing up in Býkonsviði. The forests are special. They're not just a source of income, and a resource. They're special. Part of the country's soul. I'm proud our company is helping prove that forestry can be responsible and sustainable."

Heimviður's four planned Prydanian locations are planned to be open by early 2023.

Prydania's National Anthem: Land Guð og Skóga/The Land of God and Forests

-Mercanti lyrics
There is a lovely land
with spreading, shady forests,
Near salty northern shore
Its hills and valleys gently fall,
its name is ancient Prydania,
And it is Jägdar's hall.

There in the ancient days
sailed our fathers from afar
They fought sea and storms
Then they went forth wild nature to face,
now found Tempest Holm,
Their final resting place.

This land is green and fair,
the sea is blue around it,
And peace is cherished there
Strong men and noble women still
uphold their country's honour
With faithfulness and skill.

Hail king and fatherland!
Hail citizens of honour,
who do the best they can
Our ancient Prydania shall remain,
as long as God is with us all
and our spirit sings among the forest!

-Prydanian lyrics
Það er yndislegt land
með breiðandi, skuggalegum skógum,
Nálægt saltri norðurströnd
Hæðir hennar og dalir falla varlega,
það heitir Prydansk,
Og það er salur Jägdar.

Þar til forna daga
sigldi föðurar okkar úr fjarlægð
Þeir börðust við sjó og óveður
Síðan fóru þeir fram villta náttúru til að horfast í augu við,
fannst nú Stormurholmr,
Síðasti áningarstaður þeirra.

Þetta er græntland og sanngjarnt,
sjórinn er blár í kringum hann,
Og friður er þar þeginn
Sterkir menn og göfugir konur enn
halda uppi heiðri lands síns
Með trúmennsku og kunnáttu.

Heilla konung og föðurland!
Heilsið heiðursborgurum,
hver gerir það besta sem þeir geta
Forn Prydansk okkar verður áfram,
svo framarlega sem Guð er með okkur öllum
og andi okkar syngur meðal skógarins!

Prydanian Flag History/Meaning

5jEb2jO.png

National Flag

The Barbed Cross' evolution is easy enough to track. The Andrennian-Makari Loðbrók clan of pre-Oswald Andrenne venerated Jägdar, god of the hunt. Jägdar himself was represented by a stag, and this was reflected in the banners the Loðbróks made to represent themselves. The original red and white banner of the Loðbrók clan featured two crossed stag antlers on a red field.
This banner was the one carried by Hróarr Loðbrók, exiled King of Heorot, as he led the massive expedition that led to the Nordic settlement of what is now Prydania. Hróarr's new seat of power, Stormurholm, was represented by the old viking banner. The Messianic conversion of the Loðbróks and their followers in the 900s, however, saw the old banner and its pagan sun emblem fade from use. A new, rectangular, banner was adopted that removed the sun.
It was shortly after Messianic conversion that the Loðbróks adopted a proper heraldic emblem. This emblem featured a stag on a field of white and black, and a field of green oak leaves. The stag had a large Messianic cross between its antlers, with smaller crosses in each quarter. It was here that the red banner and the standard of the Loðbróks began to separate, though both would be used concurrently.
The red banner with the crossed stag antlers began to shift into a barbed saltire cross around the late 900s, and was more or less in its final form by the time of Vortgyn Loðbrók.
Vortgyn conquered the native Bayadri, unifying Prydania. The Barbed Cross and the Loðbrók standard continued to be used concurrently, with the Barbed Cross becoming the "national" flag during the 1500s.

Royal Standards

The Royal Standard came about at the same time the heraldic charge of the Loðbrók family was adopted. The stag had been used by the family since its time in Andrenne, having been associated with Jägdar, god of the hunt. The story goes that after Goyanean monks arrived in Loðbrók lands in what is now Prydania to preach Messianism? A huntsman serving the Loðbróks of Stormurholm saw a stag with a cross glowing between its antlers. He took this as a sign of Messianic favour for the Lord of Stormurholm. This began the process of conversion of the Loðbróks and their followers and was reflected in the cross added between the stag's antlers on the family's standard. It became the Royal standard of all of Prydania following Vortgyn Loðbrók's fifteen year crusade and campaign of unification against the Bayardi in 1029.
It remained as such until 1819. Rikard III Loðbrók re-asserted Prydanian sovereignty following the splitting up of the UKAG. This followed a re-awakening of Prydanian nationalism following the successful war against Callise. Rikard III re-designed the Royal standard to reflect this. He adopted the old UKAG Imperial standard pattern of placing the coat of arms of his dynasty against the national cross flag. Both to reflect the earlier sovereignty the UKAG had over Prydania and also to tie the monarchy in with the increased national awareness.
The old design was returned to use, however. King Tobias III cited the 1819 flag's association with the fascist Social Commonwealth dictatorships of 1937-1951 and 1984-2002.

BFUe1nN.png

Royal Prydanian Army Flag

The Royal Prydanian Army flag is an off-set cross swallow-tail design. It dates back to just before Prydania entered the UKAG and remained the Royal Prydanian Army's flag under the broader UKAG military apparatus.

TvT58QJ.png

Royal Prydanian Navy Jack

The squared version of the Prydanian Barbed Cross flag as the flag of the Royal Prydanian Navy dates to the 1400s. No explanation for the crossed design is given, though it is speculated that it was chosen to distinguish the Army from the Navy. The Army marched into battle using the rectangular cross flag, and so the Navy would be distinguished by a square variation. It also served to distinguish itself from the ensign, which was the standard rectangular Barbed Cross flag at the time of the Royal Prydanian Navy's formation.

OBV1pcJ.png

Royal Prydanian Navy Ensign

The ensign was, as previously explained, just the standard rectangular Barbed Cross flag. This variation replaced it in 1657 and has been used since, save for the Syndicalist Interregnum of 2002-2017. It was designed during the UKAG era, taking ques from the Goyanean banners that were prevalent in Prydanian harbours. It was flown by Prydanian ships in peacetime, and would raise UKAG imperial flags during times of war. It became the independent Kingdom of Prydania's naval ensign upon the dissolution of the UKAG in 1819.

Royal Prydanian Air Force Flag

This flag was designed upon the Royal Prydanian Air Force's establishment as a separate branch in 1920. It's identical to the Army flag, with the body of the flag switched from red to sky blue.

Order of the Knights of the Storm Flag

The Order of the Knights of the Storm was established by King Vortgyn II Loðbrók in 1076 in honour his father, King Tobias I Loðbrók. Tobias I was a devout man, and the holy order was established by his son to reflect his values. The Knights of the Storm served as the guardians of the Prydanian monarch until the Syndicalist coup in 2002. They were refounded via a royal proclimation following the Civil War's conclusion.
The flag is the standard Prydanian Barbed Cross flag with the cross from the Royal coat of arms in gold imposed upon it.

Prydanian New Years' Traditions

New Year's in Prydania is actually much like New Year's in a number of places. It's a celebration, but doesn't really have much deep significance. It's just a good time to have a party and enjoy company.

The King's Speech. The Prydanian monarch gives at 6:00 pm local time on New Year's Eve. This dates back to the time of Queen Alexandria in the 1880s, actually.
The tradition became so engrained that even Thomas Nielsen was compelled to give New Year's speeches at the same time while he was Chairman of the Syndicalist Presidium.
The content and tone of the speech tends to change, depending on the situation in the country.

Wearing red and white. A tradition that wasn't upheld during the Syndicalist era but has returned, is the wearing of the national flag's colours. Some people go subtle with maybe some plaid or perhaps some muted dark reds with some white, while others will go all out and wear flag caps and flag-themed party hats!

Smashed porcelain. You take all the porcelain that's been chipped over the past year and you smash it on your friends' doorsteps. It's considered a good thing if you have a huge pile of smashed porcelain in the morning. It means you have a lot of friends.

The first foot. This tradition holds that you can invite someone to be the first person to enter your house in the New Year. Tradition holds that they bring good luck and good fortune for the coming year. Usually a blonde haired person means the most good luck.
This goes back to medieval times and the fact that the Royal family has a lot of blondes. The King showing up to your home was considered an honour, and this led to blondes being preferable for first footers.
First footers will say "Gleðilegt nýtt ár! (Happy New Year!) May the new year bring good luck and prosperity to his household!”
In central Prydania a tradition holds that if you refuse the invitation to be a first footer the good luck you would have brought is turned back on you as bad luck.

Gifts to usher in good fortune. This is related to the first footers. They can bring gifts to symbolize the good fortune they bring. These gifts- and what they symbolize- are...

coal - warmth
alcohol - joy and happiness
coin - money
book - knowledge
bread - food
cheese - comfort/wealth
tonic - health

Some first footers bring all these gifts, others bring only a few.

Food. So a Prydanian New Year's dinner consists of three things- cod, steiktsvínakjöt, and kransekage. Steiktsvínakjöt is crispy pork belly, and is considered the national dish of the country. Parents also tend to make it for their kids to reward them. Kransekage is a desert. It's a buttery cake in a ring shape that is only made for New Year's.

Fireworks. Of course fireworks.

So there you have it! Prydanian New Year's traditions!

Tallest Building in Prydania

Prydania's tallest structure is Reynir Hospital in Reynir, Prydania. Reynir is a suburb of Býkonsviði and Reynir Hospital serves as a teaching hospital for the University of Býkonsviði. It has also been the place of birth of multiple members of the Prydanian Royal Family. King Tobias III was born here, along with his and Empress Alycia's sons Princes Baldr and Hael.

Reynir Hospital stands 120 meters (390 feet) tall and has twenty-eight floors.

A Non-Comprehensive List of Creatures from Prydanian Folklore

Sjómunkur

e3CyK0y.jpg

The Sjómunkur aka the Sea Monk is a humanoid with heavy fishy features that give it the appearance of a monk in a habit.
It's said to wander beaches at night and will curse you to die the next time you go out to sea should you come upon it.

Draugur

HJyt5h1.jpg

A Draugur is a corpse that has returned from the dead. They are said to be newly deceased people who have risen from their graves to harass the living. A recently deceased person could become an Draugur if they practised black magic, were greedy, mean-spirited, or were buried without proper burial rites.
Draugur were said to be more active during the winter and their presence would be heralded by a blizzard or otherwise heavy snowfall. They are said to posses inhuman strength and will murder humans and livestock alike. Draugur are also said to engage in "roof riding," where they stand atop a roof and stomp through the night to keep people from getting a good night's sleep.
The only way to kill (or re-kill) an Draugur is to cut off its head and burn the body. The ashes must then be scattered.

Knoggelvi

P2jtYh6.jpg

Said to be a sea demon, this creature is best described as a skinless centaur, with arms that can reach the ground, yellow eyes, black blood flowing through its veins, and breath toxic enough to wilt crops and cause livestock to fall ill.
They emerge from the sea at night and will run down and murder any person they see, though it's said you can escape one by crossing a river or stream as they cannot tolerate fresh water. They also ravage farmlands close to the sea. The only time they are contained is the summer. They are said to be unable to come ashore during the summer months, as the evil has been freshly banished from the land for the year.
It is most common around the Auburn Channel and on Stormurholmr, where local superstition says you must say a prayer if you dare to utter its name.

Nykur

BQwIl2O.jpg

Nykur are water dragons that live in steams, ponds, and lakes, and can transform into stunningly handsome men or women to lure humans into their body of water.
Some Nykur are malicious and will attempt to kill and eat the human, but others are rather friendly and are said to only wish to entertain the humans they find with their singing. Which is said to be so beautiful that trees dance to it and waterfalls stop to listen to it.
Some stories even tell of Nykur that fall in love with a human and agree to marry them and remain in human form. Though a Nykur will grow listless and depressed if it doesn't have access to a fresh water source.
A malicious Nykur can be defeated two ways. Calling out its name will cause it to die, as will getting it to drink brennivín.

Kraki

sIR4sCy.jpg

A Kraki is said to be a giant sea monster half squid and half whale. Unlike whales, which are said to be offspring of the Thaunic sea gods, Kraki are said to be twisted, evil creatures that can take down a large ship with ease. They prey on vikings and, later, sailors and fishermen in the deep ocean, far from land.
They are so massive that it's said one with part of its body above the water can be mistaken for an island. And their mouths are so large that they can cause whirlpools to form merely by pointing their gaping maws upward towards the surface. It's said that Kraki inhabit the Pale Sea.

Skógarmaður

0OL3MpQ.jpg

The Skógarmaður, aka "the Forest Man," is a being that's said to inhabit Prydania's deepest forests. They can shapeshift into anything that lives within the forest, but their "natural" form is said to be a tall, gaunt creature with bark for skin and moss for shaggy hair, long fingers like branches, and hooves for feet.
Some Skógarmaður are malevolent and will lead travellers to their deaths, but others will ensure a successful hunt if a hunter has properly venerated them.
Each Skógarmaður is said to have its own territory, and disputes between them were said to be the cause of trees crashing.
As a Skógarmaður can shapeshift into anything that lives in the forest they can take on the forms of humans who live in the woods. It is easy to distinguish a Skógarmaður from a real human, however.
Skógarmaður will put the wrong shoe on each foot and will not cast a shadow.
Malevolent Skógarmaður will rarely appear to their victims, instead mimicking the voices of people they know, or animals they are listening for, to lead them astray into the forest to die. Helpful Skógarmaður, however, would help a hunting party secure a kill if the party made a sacrifice of bread and salt to it
You can avoid the attention of a Skógarmaður by respecting the forest. You do this by not taking resources beyond what you need to survive, not whistling, not swearing, and not intentionally harming plant life. If you do get one's attention you can protect yourself and repel it by saying a prayer, making it laugh, or by wearing your clothing inside out.

Kristurjólakötturinn

xq1k376.jpg

The Kristurjólakötturinn, also known as the "Christmas Cat," or the "Prydanian Christmas Cat," is said to be a large cat about the size of a shed. It is said to emerge on Christmas Eve to eat children who didn't do enough to help their parents prepare for the harvest back when summer turned to fall.
The story was successful at getting children to do their fair share in farming communities, but it was also so affective at scared them that it caused some panic. So much so that, in 1747, the Alþingi passed a resolution declaring that the custom of scaring children with the story of the Kristurjólakötturinn was to be abolished. It didn't work, and by the 19th century the story was amended to refer to all lazy children, not just those who lived in the countryside.
These days the Kristurjólakötturinn is merely used as a Christmas mascot in Prydania.

Stories of the Prydanians

Hunferð and the Whale

It's said, during the days of the Kingdom of Heorot in the old lands of Andrensk across the sea to the west, that there was a man named Hunferð who had malice in his heart. He would curse the world and loaf about while others worked to fish, hunt, or learn a trade.
One day Hunferð was walking by the shoreline. He saw a herring whale and, in his youthful arrogance, threw a rock at it from the shore. The rock hit the whale's blowhole and exploded.
The god Ozaviin, god of the sea, descended and chastised Hunferð. He banished Hunferð from the sea for twenty years.

Hunferð took the anger of the god to heart and devoted himself to improving his life. He learnt how to be a blacksmith, married, and had many sons and daughters.
But then, in the nineteenth year of Ozaviin's edict, Hunferð thought "I have done well. I have become a better man, a father, and a grandfather. Surely Ozaviin will look favourably on me returning to the sea."

So Hunferð went out in a boat to go fishing and a herring whale emerged from the water, eating him.

Academic Note: This is one of many stories from Prydanian mythology that shows whales as being favoured by the Thaunic sea gods.

Prince Lindworm
Long ago in Heorot King Skjöld and his wife Alfhild were despondent as they were without child.
One day Alfhild was walking in the woods, hoping the splendours of Jægdar's domain would take her mind off of her and her husband's inability to conceive.

As the young Queen was walking she came across an old norn*, who sensed she was distressed.
"What troubles you, Queen of Heorot?" the norn asked.

"My husband and I cannot conceive a child," Alfhild replied.
"It's brought us both much sorrow."

"Such afflictions can be easily remedied, with the right magic," the norn replied.

"Is this the magic of life or death?" Alfhild asked, cautiously.

"It is life," the norn answered, "but even the powers of life can grow wild without care. Head my instructions and you and the King will have a healthy child and a loving family. If you do not head my instructions the powers of life will grow wild indeed."

Alfhild agreed to the norn's terms and the norn instructed the Queen to take an empty vase and set it upside down in the northeast corner of the royal garden. Leave it there until after the next full moon. She was instructed to make love with her husband the King on that night. The next morning there would be two roses under the vase. If the Queen ate the red rose she would have a son. If she ate the white rose she would have a daughter. She needed to burn whichever rose she did not eat, however. Eating both roses would lead to disaster.

Queen Alfhild did what was instructed, but did not believe the norn. She and King Skjöld did make love on the next full moon, however. The Queen checked the vase the next morning and low and behold there were two roses underneath, one red and one white.

Alfhild contemplated which rose to eat- if she had a son then he might one day be called on to go to war. If she had a daughter she would have to be married to a foreign lord. Either way she would lose her beloved child.
She eventually chose to consume the white rose though, but the rose was so intoxicating in taste that she couldn't help but eat the red one, ignoring the norn's warning.

The Queen was soon pregnant, and nine months later she gave birth to a healthy baby boy...and a lindworm, a serpentine dragon. The lindworm fled the room immediately through the window and the Queen and her handmaidens vowed to never tell the King.

The son born that day would grow up into a dashing prince, Gram, who desired to be a viking warrior. On Gram's sixteenth birthday his father Skjöld declared he would join his viking warband, but he first had to find a wife and start a family so the Loðbrók line would not die if he fell in battle.
So Gram set out on a horse to find a wife to wed, but he was confronted by a giant and powerful lindworm soon after leaving the city.

"A BRIDE FOR ME BEFORE A BRIDE FOR YOU, BROTHER!" the lindworm ordered, sending Gram back to his parents.

Alfhild confessed the truth of the norn and lindworm to Skjöld and Gram, and Skjöld explained that since the lindworm was born first he should be married first. Yet lindworms were said to devour their brides. Skjöld was not willing to risk angering other realms by having their royal daughters consumed by the beast, so he approached his Master of Horses. His daughter would wed the lindworm and lift the curse.

The Master of Horses' daughter, Asa, heard of this plan and tried to run away through the woods. There she came across the same norn who had advised the Queen. She told the norn of the lindworm and planned marriage, but the norn told her to go through with the wedding. Asa was aghast, but the norn assured her that if her instructions were followed Asa would not only survive, she would end up a happily married queen.

So Asa wed the lindworm, and promised her husband she would be ready for the evening soon, knowing that was when the lindworm would eat her.
Asa, however, put on ten dresses. She said the lindworm could eat her once she was undressed, but the lindworm had to remove a layer of skin for each layer Asa discarded.

As Asa removed each dress the lindworm discarded a layer of scales and skin. Finally, Asa was down to her undergarments, and the lindworm was small, and weak. It was then that Asa enacted the final instructions the norn had given her. She took a whip coated in milk and attacked the weakened lindworm.

The King's guard, hearing the commotion, rushed in to find Asa and a young man, the human form of the lindworm and Prince Gram's twin brother. The process the norn had told Asa to follow had resulted in transforming the lindworm from his monstrous state.

The newly human prince took the name Wiglaf, and as the eldest of the twin brothers succeeded Skjöld as King with his beloved Queen Asa by his side for the rest of their lives.

King Wiglaf would begat three sons and two daughters, the eldest son being Hróarr, who would go on to be the last King of Heorot and lead its people to what is now Prydania.

Academic Note: This story is interesting as it includes historical figures. King Skjöld, Queen Alfhild, King Wiglaf, Queen Asa, and Prince Gram are all historical figures attested to in contemporary records, and Wiglaf was the father of Hróarr. Further it is noted in old records that his wife Asa was of common birth. The story is believed to be a tale meant to convey why twins seem to be common in the Prydanian royal family.
The lindworm remains a symbol in Prydania, most notably on the traditional flag of the city of Markarfljot.

History

The Alemriche Football Association was founded in 1867, the first organized governing body in football. CEFA, founded in Alemriche in 1900, established an international body to oversee the game. CEFA's organization ran parallel to efforts in Prydania to form a national association, which came to fruition when Býkonsviði FF (present-day Konunglegur Býkonsviði), Midland FF, and Haland Víkingar FF agreed in principal to form a national association. Smaller Prydanian clubs, not wanting to be shut out of an association with the three largest teams at the helm, soon joined. The Prydanian Football Federation (Fótboltasamband Prydansk) was officially inaugurated in 1901. The FSP joined CEFA a year later.

CEFA launched the World Cup in 1953 as a means to heal the wounds of the worldwide Fascist Wars of 1937-1951. Prydania participated in the inaugural tournament, but wouldn't reach the finals until 1965. Prydania lost that game 0-4 to Naizerre, but would win the next World Cup in 1969. Prydania defeated Vivanco 2-1.

The Syndicalist coup in the fall of 2002 resulted in the Prydanian Football Federation falling under the control of the Syndicalist Republic. Like all elements of society the Football Federation was ideologically purged. Syndicalist Prydanian teams failed to make much of a splash internationally from 2002-2013.

In early 2013 the Framan Ríki Eining (Front of National Unity) drove Syndicalist forces from Austurland and Stormurholmr. Prydania now had two rival governments claiming legitimacy, and CEFA stepped in to take control of the Prydanian Football Federation. The organization was to be run in an apolitical manner.
Like the Syndicalist teams before them this new CEFA-run Prydanian organization failed to make much of a splash at first. Though it was the beginning of CEFA-headed outreach programs that allowed Prydanian youth to use football as a means to escape the realities of Syndicalist rule and civil war.

The 2017 team, however, did something special. The 2017 World Cup was being played against the backdrop of the final months of the Prydanian Civil War. By the time the tournament began the Syndicalist Republic had surrendered and the Prydanian team went on a tear. King Tobias III was crowned just prior to the Prydanian team's semi-finals game against Maloria. The apolitical Prydanian team came out for that game with the Prydanian barbed cross flag sewed to their sleeves, and the Prydanian Royal anthem- Land of God and Forests- was played.
Prydania would defeat Maloria, but would fall to host nation Alemriche on penalties in the Finals. Still, the surprise run resulted in Prydania's re-emergence as a football contender as the Civil War ended.

The Prydanian team competed in the World Cup in 2019, but was eliminated in the first knockout round by Skanda. The disappointing result was amplified by criticisms of aggressive play by team stars Peter Bach and fellow star Kurt Mörch.

Bach and Mörch would lead the team again into the 2020 Odinspyl, where they rebounded from a rocky start in the round robin stage- including another loss to Skanda- to win gold. The path to the gold medal included eliminating World champions Goyanes in the last round robin game, defeating Saintonge in extra time in what was deemed "the real gold medal match" due to its back and forth nature and closeness, and wins over Demescia and Skanda.
The Odinspyl's emphasis on young players meant that Prydania's gold medal victory made young, relatively obscure Prydanian footballers household names, leading to Prydanian players fielding offers from all over the world.

Traditions
Prydania's men's national team is referred to as "the Harts." The women's team is referred to as "the Hinds."

Fan traditions include red viking helmet-esque hats made of fabric, and scarves in the team colours.

The team has an unofficial anthem sung by fans at games.

Valhalla hringir

Hver sjóndeildarhringur er nýtt upphaf
Rís upp og ríkið

Langt frá firðunum og ísköldum straumum
Hrafnar svífa yfir nýjum landamærum
Lög og sögur af örlögum ákvörðuð
Skjöldur og spjót

Heiðursheit eða æsispennu
Dragðu saman fyrir ættina og ættingja
Klank hamra og þrumuhrun
Pund innan

Ó-ho-ó
Bergmál eilífðarinnar
Ó-ho-ó
Valhalla hringir í mig
Ó-ho-ó
Að rífa örlögin
Ó-ho-ó
Valhalla hringir í mig
Valhalla hringir í mig

Valhalla Calling
Ships on vigor of the waves are skimming
Barren summits to the verdant plains
Each horizon is a new beginning
Rise and reign

Far from the fjords and the ice cold currents
Ravens soar over new frontiers
Songs and sagas of a fate determined
Shields and spears

Vows of favour or the thrill of plunder
Pull together for the clan and kin
Clank of hammers and the crash of thunder
Pound within

Oh-ho-oh
The echoes of eternity
Oh-ho-oh
Valhalla calling me
Oh-ho-oh
To pluck the strings of destiny
Oh-ho-oh
Valhalla calling me
Valhalla calling me

The Calendar

Month Names

Prydania uses the Umbrial calendar, though it has two separate name groups for the months. The "traditional" Nordic month names are derived from Goyanean names and Prydanian translations of the Umbrial month names. Which list of names is more common changes depending on the historical era. Presently the Nordic names see more widespread use but the Umbrial names have left their mark. Such as the name of Októberfest.

Nordic names
Mörmánuð- January
Þorrimánuð- February
Gjömánuð- March
Einmánuð- April
Harpamánuð- May
Skemánuð- June
Solmánuð- July
Heymánuð- August
Tvimánuð- September
Haustmánuð- October
Gormánuð- November
Jólmánuð- December

Umbrial names
Janúar
Febrúar
Mars
Apríl
Maí
Júní
Júli
Ágúst
September
Október
Nóvember
Desember

Though the Nordic names are more widespread in Prydania, using the Umbrial names will not cause one any problems. Prydanian companies have increasingly begun using the Umbrial names for international business with colleagues in non-Nordic countries.
Most calendars printed for Prydanian speakers will feature both names, usually with the Nordic name given prominence.

Day Names

In contrast to month names, Prydania only has one set of names for days of the week.

Sunnudagur- Sunday
Mánudagur- Monday
Þriðjudagur- Tuesday
Miðvikudagur- Wednesday
Fimmtudagur- Thursday
Föstudagur- Friday
Laugardagur- Saturday

Languages

Prydania has a (perhaps surprising) amount of linguistic diversity.

Prydanian is the only official language at a national level and is spoken by pretty much everyone.

Bayardi is a recognized regional/minority language. It has co-official language status in Jórvík, and is commonly used on signage- both public and private- in Jórvík and surrounding areas.

Gojan and Andrennian are commonly spoken secondary languages as a result of the UKAG era. Gojan can be found as a secondary language in the east and Andrennian as a secondary language in the west.

Norsian is found in some communities near the Norsian border and along the northern coast of Kings' Lake as a result of fishermen from both sides on the lake finding open port for centuries. There's even a Norsian-Prydanian pidgin language that only locals can understand.

Rechvik is the language of Prydanian Shaddaists, a mix of Yihuddi with a number of Gotic languages. Though structurally a Gotic language it is written in Yihuddi script. It, like Bayardi, is a recognized/protected minority language. Though unlike Bayardi lacks a region where it is widely used outside of private and religious life.

Mercanti, traditionally only a language a Prydanian would learn if they were educated at a university level and pursuing a degree that required it, is now being taught as a vital component of the revised Prydanian curriculum. Mercanti instruction begins as early as Year 3/age 9 in the Prydanian school system.

Santonian, Norsian, and Asthonic are the most popular languages studied at the higher high school and university levels.

Alexandria, Queen of the Prydanians by Sir Vali Fornes, 1839.

A portrait of Queen Alexandria of Prydania done up in the garb of a viking warrior queen, by Sir Vali Fornes, painted in 1839 just a year after Alexandria has succeeded her father Rikard IV.
Alexandria was both a woman and the second born to the late King, and thus had much working against her. With her older sister Luta presumed dead, Alexandria's coronation was a more sober affair. The painting was meant to garb her in the traditional vestments of a Prydanian monarch, and reaffirm her status as Queen of the Realm.

excerpt from the Prydanian opera “Miklagard”

KING RIKARD
The time is here
Time to be brave, while others fear
Fear the stars, the moon and the Holy Ghost
It's what lurks in the dark that scares us the most
You're damned if you do, you're damned if you don't
What tomorrow brings is still the unknown
But can you condone? How to atone?

I'm so alone
How can I know I won't bemoan?
Every tale needs it's star and knave
Which part I play is yet to be unveiled
History, just what's agreed
Yet it will judge both you and me
Shields and swords, will win you wars
But in the end, the battle's for our hearts
Fought by bards

You look back in time
No-one heard the bells chime
You wonder how
How could they this allow?
Exactly the same
Are the questions aimed your way
When looking back on today

THANE GUNNAR OF EIDERWIG
The time is here
Time to be brave, let others fear
We know the walls will fall
But out of the ashes a new day will dawn
We've enslaved the world
We have slaughtered, we've burned
All, in the name of our faith
Only a fool would except
Others to settle for anything less
The tide is about to turn

KING RIKARD
The sea has pulled away
Like small children we play
What is this?
Come take a look at all these fish!
As long as you spend
There is more for you to lend
Someone always saves us in the end

THANE GUNNAR OF EIDERWIG
The time is here
Time to be brave, let others fear
We know the walls will fall
But out of the ashes a new day will dawn
We've enslaved the world
We have slaughtered, we've burned
All, while knowing what is best
Might take a year or ten
Generations of men
We've passed the point of no return

JÆGDAR
Fifty-one days in fifty-one
Fifty-one steps for you to acknowledge your defeat
The last in line: Alger Loðbróki
Evolution through revolution
A frozen river, enough to tip a kingdom
Markarfljot, Darrow, Haland, Hadden, Býkonsviði
At Shravasti it would all end

KING RIKARD
Tough are times ahead
With care you tread
Before you know
Out we need to bow
Enjoy it while it lasts soon forgotten in the past
Our time here ended so fast

KNIGHTS OF THE STORM
Open your eyes
Yourself apprise
All empires find their demise
The taller they are, the harder they fall
The snowball
Is on the roll
Open your eyes
Yourself apprise
New powers are on the rise
So strong is our faith that the world stays as is
Until it hits, like shattering glass to bits
How did this happen? How could this happen?
How could the Crusade fall?

National Board of Trade Unions/Þjóðernstjórn Stéttarfélög/ÞSSF
The National Board of Trade Unions (Þjóðernstjórn Stéttarfélög, ÞSSF) is the national trade union centre in Prydania, representing all major trade unions in the country.

In many ways it's the successor to the Trade Union Assembly, the Stéttarfélagþingi. The Stéttarfélagþingi was first convened in 1870 to represent the class interests of the growing industrial working class. They initially reached out to the Liberal Party (primary ancestors of the modern Free Democratic Party) but the Liberal Party proved unwilling to adopt workers' rights as a policy flank. This led to the Stéttarfélagþingi to call for the creation of a party dedicated to working class and union interests. This manifested as the Syndicalist Party in 1898.

The Stéttarfélagþingi remained as a working class organization, one of many trade union organizations that was in some way affiliated with the Syndicalist Party. By the mid 20th century the Stéttarfélagþingi and Syndicalist Party were intertwined. Through the Stéttarfélagþingi the Syndicalist Party was able to wield considerable influence over most unions in the country.
The rise of Thomas Nielsen didn't fundamentally change any of this at first, but the growing authoritarianism of King Anders III and Stefan Toft's Social Commonwealth government was cause for Nielsen's right hand man Jannik Lieftur to purge the Stéttarfélagþingi of any remaining independent voices. This brought it, and thus all of the country's trade unions, under total Syndicalist control.

Following the Syndicalist takeover in 2002 the Stéttarfélagþingi was formally "merged" with the Alþingi, as the national congress of trade unions served as the legislator of the Syndicalist Republic. What was meant to be a national government formed from a federation of trade unions, however, was in practice a centralized one party state under the control of Nielsen, Lieftur, and Syndicalist Party enforcers.

The fall of the Syndicalist Republic at the end of the Civil War brought the issue of workers rights and organized labour to the forefront.
There was no desire to outlaw collective bargaining among the new FRE-led government, but the extent to which the old Stéttarfélagþingi and its unions had been intertwined and connected to the Syndicalist Party was seen as one reason why the Syndicalist Party was able to seize power as it had.
Instead laws were passed which restricted trade unions' abilities to donate to political parties or endorse them or specific candidates. The desired effect is to completely separate organized labour from the political sphere, and avert the sort of weaponized control the Syndicalist Party was able to wield over the unions.

It was in this new post-Civil War landscape that organized labour began to redefine itself. The old Stéttarfélagþingi and its unions had been stripped of their autonomy and integrated into the Syndicalist Republic, which was now in shambles and declared a criminal conspiracy by order of the newly crowned King Tobias III. The new unions that rose up out of this were focused entirely on ensuring their workers got a fair shake in the emerging post-CW economy.
The biggest political victory they achieved was lobbying the Free Democratic government of Magnus Brant (2018-2021) to adopt the Santonian system of local labour boards meant to give union leaders and employers government-controlled arenas to negotiate face to face.

The Þjóðernstjórn Stéttarfélög emerged as a replacement for the old Stéttarfélagþingi, an organization made up of most of Prydania's trade unions and representing the collective interests of the working class. Per the law they are politically neutral and have no ties to any political party. Though informal polling seems to suggest most of its membership supports either the People's Party or Peace not Blood National Democratic League.

Battles of the Prydanian Civil War:
Second Battle of Alaterva, 2014

Perhaps no battle of the Prydanian Civil War had as much intrigue, insanity, and interest as the Second Battle of Alaterva.

In January of 2014 the FRE, having liberated Austurland and secured Goyanean, Andrennian, and Xentheridan support the previous year, began planning new offensives to liberate the rest of the country from Syndicalist rule.

While the First FRE Army under Stig Eiderwig would advance north towards Hadden the Second FRE Army under Niels Krummedike would advance west. First attacking Alaterva before pushing into Jórvík and towards the mining heartlands in the southwest.
Krummedike's forces seized Alaterva in early May of 2014, securing the first objective of the FRE's second front offensive.

What happened next was a comedy of errors, clash of egos, and international reaction that, to this days, confounds most Prydanians who come across it. But to fully explain we must first turn the clock back to 2008.

In 2008 the Kingdom of Korova collapsed and the Syndicalist Republic, which still held nominal control over Austurland at the time, launched an invasion of the country and successfully established a puppet regime, the Syndicalist Republic of Korova.

While the invasion proved successful and seemed to assert the Syndicalist regime's
military prowess the victory hid deep issues that would become apparent once the FRE forced it into open combat five years later.
The first was factionalism. The People's
Militia under Minister of Internal Affairs Jannik Lieftur had long been at odds with the Syndicalist Republic Armed Forces. Lieftur pushed for the invasion primarily to secure his own force's position in the Syndicalist regime's hierarchy. By forcing the Syndicalist Republic's military to invade early with little prep he was counting on the military taking unnecessary losses. This would weaken its prestige in the eyes of the Syndicalist Presidium as well as weaken it numerically. Further with the military launching an invasion of Korova the People's Militia took over control of checkpoints across the country, further increasing their power and prestige.
The invasion of Korova had the desired effect. Though Syndicalist propaganda portrayed the Prydanian invasion as a success that restored order and peace and helped establish a "people's Syndicalist regime" the fact was that the invasion was a disaster. The Korovan government had collapsed yet the Royal Korovan Military was able to inflict losses in the tens of thousands on the Syndicalist Republic of Prydania's Armed Forces. Loses the military never should have taken given the state of the Korovan government and lack of centralized authority.
This, as stated above, was by design. The collapse of the Korovan regime was sudden and Field Marshal Borg of the Syndicalist Republic Army estimated it would take months to properly prepare an invasion force. Yet Lieftur convinced the Presidium to order the invasion immediately. Lieftur got what he wanted. The invasion was a success which bolstered the regime internationally but internally he weakened his enemy and strengthened his own forces' position within the regime.

There were two side effects of the invasion of Korova. The first was that distrust between the Syndicalist Republic Armed Forces and the People's Militia deepened. Secondly the People's Militia and not the Armed Forces had become responsible for security and hunting the FRE insurgency in Austurland.
Both of these made the FRE offensive that secured Austurland in early 2013 possible.

2013 also saw the founding of the final piece of this puzzle, Dunkler Wald. The Alemreiche private military corporation was hired by the regime primarily to reinforce Syndicalist forces on the front against the FRE and their Goyanean, Andrennian, and Xentheridan allies. It was a duty Dunkler Wald would share with Cogorian "volunteers," Cogorian soldiers sent over under the guise of neutrality.

Through 2013 and early 2014 Dunkler Wald went from hired guns for the Syndicalist Republic Ministry of Defence to a power player in the internal politics of the Syndicalist power structure.
Leading the Dunkler Wald efforts in Prydania was the company's Head of Special Teams and Solutions, Lt. Commander Jörgen Schei. Jörgen was himself a Prydanian, having joined Dunkler Wald after his discharge from the Syndicalist Republican Army following the invasion of Korova. As a Prydanian he was ideal as Dunkler Wald's point man for the operations in Prydania. While Jörgen had long been critical of the Syndicalist Republic's military structures and power structures he had been powerless to do much about it as a young officer. Yet Dunkler Wald's point man for Prydanian operations he found a new platform to attack those he saw both as inefficient and as his rivals for influence in the Syndicalist power structure.

Throughout 2013 and early 2014 Schei increasingly criticized the Syndicalist Republic's command structures- specifically Minister of Internal Affairs Jannik Lieftur and Field Marshal Ejvind Borg- for being too politically handicapped and too selfish in their desires to secure their own prestige over military necessary to effectively run the war. In late 2013 Schei commented in a social media post, seemingly in jest, that Syndicalist Presidium Chairman Thomas Nielsen should place Dunkler Wald in command of the Syndicalist war effort.

Dunkler Wald had, in their short history up to that point, managed to cultivate a reputation internationally that was based on a combination of brutality of reputation and meme humour that painted them as cool, efficient, brutal, and tailored to a nihilistic point of view that embraced unapologetic militarism and masculinity. This fanbase found itself merging with pro-Syndicalist international commentators, who had grown as the Prydanian Civil War transitioned from low level insurgency to full-on armed conflict that began to demand more and more international attention. Around the world pro-Syndicalist online circles devolved into a civil war of their own, between those who supported Borg and Lieftur and those who supported Dunkler Wald.

This came to ahead in early May 2014 when FRE forces seized Alaterva. The Syndicalist response had to be quick, yet they couldn't divert much from their northern flank, determined to resist Eiderwig's march to Hadden.
Cogorian "volunteers" and Dunkler Wald forces were thus used for a majority of Syndicalist counter-offensive operations against FRE-held Alaterva.

Borg was not keen on the arrangement, but had little choice as any diversion of troops and armour from Hadden was politically wrought. Lieftur, for his part, hoped to use Dunkler Wald in a replay of his successful Korovan gambit. Hope that Dunkler Wald could retake Alaterva for the Syndicalist Republic but sustain heavy loses, weakening the prestige and leverage Jörgen Schei and Dunkler Wald would have compared to his own forces.
Jörgen, however, had been a young officer in that Korovan invasion and recognized what his troops were being asked to do. So he determined to turn Jannik's plan back on him. He'd not only re-take Alaterva, open up a front against a weakened FRE's soft underbelly, but he'd do it in a way that proved him and his forces were the only ones in the Syndicalist war effort fit to lead it.

The Dunkler Wald offensive seemed promising at first. Brutal fighting in the central forested regions pushed the FRE back to Alaterva, and Dunkler Wald moved in to re-take the city in August 2014.

It was around the time that Dunkler Wald entered the outer neighbourhoods of Alaterva that the online discourse from pro-Syndicalist and pro-Dunkler Wald personalities began talking about the "inevitable" fall of Alaterva. And how it would force the FRE into a defensive position across all fronts with Syndicalist forces ready to strike at its rear as it prepared for an offensive towards Hadden.

From August 2014-on the fall of Alaterva, the military prowess of Dunkler Wald, and a Syndicalist victory were all proclaimed but something happened amongst this international clatter.

Alaterva didn't fall.

Despite every self-styled military "expert" on Twitcher and Viedéo proclaiming it would, the Second Battle of Alaterva dragged on. Indeed, Dunkler Wald and Cogorian "volunteer" forces began to encircle the city, but FRE and Nordika troops held firm, and Dunkler Wald's offensive was unable to break past the city's outer limits. At one point after the maps circulating online- some measuring house by house changes in the front line- stopped showing Dunkler Wald advances a figurative bombshell dropped.

A video was uploaded to Dunkler Wald's Viedéo channel featuring Jörgen Schei in full tactical gear flanked by Dunkler Wald soldiers.

"Lieftur, Borg!" he exclaimed, talking to his rivals in the Syndicalist power structure, "where's the fokking ammunition?"

The video had come out a week or so after reports started to trickle out of Alaterva that the Syndicalist-aligned Dunkler Wald and Cogorian "volunteer" forces were facing ammunition shortages. And now... Schei had gone public and accursed the right hand man of Chairman Thomas Nielsen and the Head of the Syndicalist Republic General Staff of denying his soldiers ammunition at a crucial stage of their offensive against a major target.

With the advance on Alaterva stalled a fresh FRE counter-offensive in October forced Cogorian and Dunkler Wald forces to retreat and abandon Alaterva.

The Second Battle of Alaterva had been fought and concluded, with the FRE regaining offensive initiative in southern Prydania.

A confluence of inter-Syndicalist rivalries, rivalries between those forces and a foreign mercenary force, and that mercenary force's Prydanian officer looking to supplant the government officials he in theory worked for, all against the backdrop of an international military enthusiast community who poured over both the battle itself and the larger than life personalities behind its more dramatic turns led to the Second Battle of Alaterva reaching epically weird levels.

Of course the events of the battle would set the stage for Dunkler Wald's March for Justice, but that's a story for another time.

Prydanian Pastries

Prydanian culinary tradition has a long history of delicious pastries.

Austurs- called “Austurbrauð'' in Prydania. Originally called “sveitbrauð,” which means “country bread.” It’s a puff pastry made of laminated yeast-leavened dough that creates a layered texture. Very similar to a Santonian croissant! The Austur is topped off with icing, pearl sugar, and fruit, sweetened cream cheese, or chocolate. It has its origins in rural Austurland, coming to western Prydania in the 1850s when there was a migration out of Austurland to western Prydania around Býkonsviði. It was there that sveitbrauð became known as “Austurbrauð.” They become known as “Austurs” by foreigners as the dish spread out of Prydania.

Greidas- Called “Greiðar” in Prydania. These are sort of similar to Austurs, in that they’re made from the same laminated yeast-leavened dough. It differs from an Austur in that the filling is placed inside and the shape is such that it resembles a fat comb (hence the name, “greiðar” is Prydanian for “comb”). This is accomplished by shaping the dough in a semi-circle and cutting slices around the rounded side. The sliced sections separate as the dough rises, giving the pastry its comb shape. Norsians are fond of calling them “medvědí drápy,” which means “bear claws.”
Unlike an Austur, which can include a variety of toppings, Griedas are almost always filled with almond paste, with the occasional raisin variety popular in Prydania’s Shaddaist communities.

Apple Slices- Called “Eplaskífur” in Prydania, which means “apple slices.” The meaning for which will become apparent. It’s a spherical pastry with an outer texture akin to a pancake. The inside is very fluffy, and is baked with bits of apple or applesauce inside. Hence the name. It is also traditionally served with jam.
Actual apple slices are a traditional “healthy snack” Prydanian parents give their children, and eplaskífur are a popular sweet treat. It’s common for Prydanian parents to go “eplaskífur, eikki eplaskífur!” Which means “apple slices, not apple slices!”

Býkonsviði/Beaconsfield/Balise le champ- named after Prydania’s capital city, this is a hole-less doughnut filled with marmalade or jam and topped with powdered sugar. A regional variation from Hadden switches the marmalade or jam out with custard or chocolate. These are called Haddeni Býkonsviður, or “Hadden Beaconsfields.” Variations without any filling exist, but it’s said that your host is wishing you bad luck if you find your Býkonsviði is without filling.

Karnivalur- The Karnival is named as such because it’s traditionally served during Carnival in the lead-up to Lent. The holiday is a celebration in Prydania that involves children dressing up in costumes, playing games, and collecting candy and treats from their neighbours. Similar to Halloween in other nations, though it’s in February rather than October. Karnival pastries are rectangular unlike other types of doughnuts. They’re usually topped with powdered sugar or cinnamon sugar. The tradition is said to have started by families wanting to empty their pantries of lard, sugar, fat, and butter so they could more easily abstain from those during Lent.
Karnivalur are not different from other doughnuts in terms of ingredients (and can be almost identical to Býkonsviður if served with jam). What distinguishes it is the rectangular shape.

Thynsts/Þynnist- A staple of Prydania’s Shaddaist community, thynsts are made by frying thin sheets of dough made from flour and eggs rolled into a loose roll. They are traditionally eaten with cinnamon, though they are eaten with honey on Rosh Hashanah, the Shaddaist New Year.

Grannur- Grannur are made from flattened dough that are cut into trapezoids. A slit is cut into the middle, to simulate the shape of a knot. As gannur are eaten during Christmas this knot is meant to synbolize a tied knot on a present. The dough, once properly arranged, is fried in oil.

Jólatertur/Yule Tarts- Another Christmas pastry. The jólaterta are a puff pastry made in the shape of a star or pinwheel, filled with prune jam or apples, and dusted with apple sugar. Jólaterta are made in the shape they’re in to symbolize the star said to have been seen by the Three Wise Men on the night of Jesus’ birth.

Rósettukökur/Rosettes- thin, fritter-like cookies that are made from iron moulds that are distinguished by their lacy patterns. This often means the irons needed to cut out the dough will be quite complicated in pattern.
The batter is a blend of wheat flour, eggs, sugar and whole milk. The iron is heated in the oil and then pressed into the batter. It is then dipped into the oil again, to create a crisp outer layer of dough. The rosette is then carefully separated from the iron and the edges dipped in frosting or sugar. The process can be complicated, as it takes a good sense of timing to know when to pull the iron out of the oil a second time to get the crispiness just right, and a trained, steady hand to separate the finished cookie from the iron without ruining the shape.

Kransekage- A buttery marzipan cake in a ring shape that’s made for New Year’s. It’s made in different sizes, and this serves a purpose. You stack kransekage on top of each other, with the larger ones at the bottom and smaller ones at the top, into a turret-like shape. This is meant to recall the cornucopia and symbolizes wealth, happiness, and plenty for the coming year.

Gambling Regulations in the Kingdom of Prydania

SkTPfid.png

Prydansk Happdrættisleikir H/F:
Crown corporation that holds a legal monopoly on lottery offerings.
Prydanian Financial Services Act:
Law that regulates financial services and transactions
Prydanian Gambling Act:
Law that regulates the scope and legality of gambling
Prydanian Gambling Authority:
An independent government agency that resides within the Ministry of Finance, and is responsible for securing a proper and regulated gambling market in Prydania so that players are protected against unfair and illegal gambling. They are responsible for issuing licences for gambling operations nation-wide.

I Definitions
Prydanian gambling legislation provides the following definitions of games and their different categories.

Games
Lottery, combination games and betting:

  1. lottery: an activity where a participant has a chance to win a prize, and where the odds are based exclusively on chance;
  2. combination games: activities where a participant has a chance to win a prize, and where the odds are based on a combination of skill and chance; and
  3. betting: activities where a participant has a chance to win a prize, and where bets are taken on the outcome of a future event or the occurrence of a future event.
Class lottery
A lottery that is divided into several classes, with separate prize draws for each class.

Pool betting
Bets where all or part of the prize depends on the size of the total pool of bets or is split between the winners.

Slot machines
Mechanical or electronic machines that can be used for games where the player can win a prize.

Online games
Games concluded between a player and a gambling operator using remote communications.

Land-based games
Games concluded between a player and a gambling operator or a gambling operator's dealer who meet in person.

Contrary to most gambling regulations, Prydanian gambling legislation does not distinguish between online poker and other online casino games. Poker is considered a casino game and is not subject to specific regulations, and is consequently regulated under the same rules as any other online casino game.

Definitions in law
Fantasy league games are considered and regulated as pool betting and require a licence to be offered. This allows an operator to offer daily fantasy leagues as well as the more traditional season fantasy leagues.

Spread betting is considered a financial product and cannot be offered under a betting licence. The offering of spread betting is restricted to registered financial companies and is regulated under the Prydanian Financial Services Act LBK No. 1140, 26 September 2019.

Competitive sports for prizes are not considered betting or gambling, and can be offered without a gambling licence. The same is ultimately true for skill competitions, but skill competitions often have an element of chance, for example, a drawing between correct answers in a quiz where more than one participant has the correct answer, but only one can be the winner, and consequently are close to the legal definition of combination games. However, if the questions are not simple to the extent that the average person would get everything right with little or no effort, such competitions are not considered to be gambling and therefore do not require a licence.

Free prize draws are considered gambling as they fulfil the definition of a lottery under Prydanian law. However, since the element of a wager is not present in a free prize draw, a licence is not required to offer such draws legally, but a gambling duty on the prize must be paid by the operator.

Distinction between speculative and hedging financial products
Article 2, Section 3 of the Prydanian Gambling Act excludes betting on the future value of financial instruments that lie outside the scope of the Gambling Act, and such betting, for example spread betting, is consequently regulated by the Financial Services Act.

This does not exclude all betting on financial products, and it is generally considered inside the scope of the Gambling Act and legal under a betting licence to offer fantasy league-style games on publicly noted shares, bets on which share will perform best on a given trading day, etc.

II Gambling policy
The structure of Prydanian gambling legislation is that the offering of gambling is generally prohibited unless the operator has a licence to offer gambling.

On the offering of betting and online casino, there is no limitation to the number of licences that can be granted, and anyone who fulfills the legal requirements and satisfies the Prydanian Gambling Authority that the operation can be run responsibly and will be sufficiently funded will be granted a licence.

III Crown control and private enterprise
The offering of lotteries as defined in the Gambling Act (except for games positively exempted as allowed casino games) is restricted to Crown-owned operators. Prydania has three different types of class lotteries, and Prydansk Happdrættisleikir H/F holds the monopoly to offer any other kind of lottery.

All other types of gambling have been opened up to privately owned operators who have obtained a gambling licence.

IV Territorial issues
In Prydania, gambling is regulated and licensed nationally.

V Offshore gambling
The key element with regards to offshore gambling is whether or not an offshore gambling operator is targeting the Prydanian market.

Under the Gambling Authority's current interpretation and enforcement of the Gambling Act, accepting wagers from players located in Prydania without having a Prydanian licence is not contrary to Prydanian law provided that the operator accepting such wagers is not targeting its offering of gambling products at the Prydanian market.

An operator is considered to be targeting the Prydanian market if one or more of the following conditions are fulfilled:

  1. the gambling website is offered in a Prydanian or Bayardi-language version;
  2. the operator offers customer services in Prydanian or Bayardi;
  3. games are offered that are considered to only be of interest to Prydanian players. For example, betting on lower-ranking Prydanian sporting events, betting on the outcome of Prydanian Alþingi elections, or slot machines with the theme of a Prydanian TV show, movie and similar screenings unknown or considered obscure outside of Prydania;
  4. Prydanian krossar are accepted or offered as a currency on the gambling website;
  5. there is acceptance of payment services such as the Prydanian debit card payment system PryKort, which is exclusive to the Prydanian market;
  6. there is marketing and advertising in the Prydanian media;
  7. marketing and advertising is in Prydanian or Bayardi; and
  8. there is direct marketing targeting Prydanian consumers, where the operator sender is aware that the recipient is based in Prydania.
If an operator targets the Prydanian market without a Prydanian licence, the Gambling Authority has shown great commitment to having such an offering shut down or curtailed within Prydania.

Article 65 of the Gambling Act provides the Gambling Authority with the legal authority to block payment services to an operator offering gambling in Prydania without a licence. The same provision allows the Gambling Authority to block access from Prydania to the violating operator's website or websites.

Further, Article 59 places a complete ban in Prydania on advertising of unlicensed gambling.

In all cases where cease-and-desist letters have proven insufficient to stop the unlicensed offering, the Gambling Authority has successfully gained court orders to force internet service providers (ISPs) to prevent access to certain websites where unlicensed gambling was offered and targeted at the Prydanian market.

The Gambling Authority estimates the unlicensed offering of gambling in Prydania to represent 5 per cent or less of the total Prydanian gambling market. The operators are less optimistic but still estimate that approximately 80–85 per cent of the Prydanian market is licensed and compliant. The Gambling Authority and government consider these numbers a success in light of widespread underground gambling during the Syndicalist regime and chaos of the Civil War years.

The Gambling Authority has not yet had to pursue enforcement, including fines for violation of the Gambling Act, outside Prydania, so the enforceability of the Gambling Act against a foreign operator has not yet been identified.

The Gambling Authority is pursuing and developing cooperation with as many foreign gambling regulators and gambling commissions as it can, in order to improve its chances of receiving assistance if a foreign operator violates Prydanian law, and to promote a higher degree of uniformity and mutual recognition of standards within, in particular, the online gambling industry.
