Election results!
After the tie between Notherfork and Merlion, a debate followed in the College on what to do next. The result: a second round, and here are the results!

Notherfork – 8 votes (57.14%)
The Merlion – 4 votes (28.57%)
Abstain – 2 votes (4.29%)

Result announcement by Governor-General Neo-Conservatism:
The run-off is now over and Notherfork is the winner with 57% of the vote. Congratulations to all of the candidates and good luck in the next term.

Notherfork has yet to take the Oath of Office. After that, the selection of the Chancellors for the second Cabinet of the Realm of Equilism can begin and we will keep you updated in future updates.

This is also the time where we say goodbye to Restored Othalla’s Cabinet. Restored Othalla has done a wonderful job of leading Equilism after the reunification and much has been accomplished. Thank you!

Foreign Affairs
Diplomatic relations have been established with Liberty Alliance. The FCSTO has expressed its wishes for closer ties with Equilism.

Military Affairs
WATCH OUT! E-Army soldiers have been spotted crammed in a van in A Van Down by the River, acting idiotically in Random Idiots and marching in neat rows in The Legion. Conclusion: one minute they’re organised, the next minute they’re party animals…

The College of Equilism
The following topics are on the College’s agenda:
- College Laws and Procedures
- Amending the Committee and Procedures part of the College Laws and Procedures
- Cybernations
- And congratulations have been flying around the College with Noth’s election as the new Lord Chancellor.

Chancellor of the Realm
The Chancellor of the Realm elections (the elections for Equilism’s UN-Delegate) have been won by Felasia.
The announcement was made by Governor-General Neo-Conservatism:
By margin of 20-17, Felasia has won the position of CotR. Congratulations to all the candidates. The delegacy transfer is effective immedietly.
Felasia ran against Govvistan and the election remained exciting right until the end.

"Mowgli couldn't wait to be home and start making his new IKEA car." (Haken)

In the Games & Fun forum, the classical games are still very popular. Spam is also popular, but that is very old news.

Role Playing & Main Street
The classical RP-threads are still popular.

Crime in Seriphyn has risen dramatically due to immigration. Click here to read the topic.
New developments have been going on in Subterfuge. Click here to read more.

Tension on the north-western continent of Terra Ora has risen. Several nations are threatening to attack Govvistan after the Grand Elf of Govvistan refused to post a picture of himself with pointy ears. Several nations chose to take Govvistan’s side while several others are threatening him. There are also nations who expressed that they will remain neutral in the conflict. Tensions are threatening the south-western continent as well, as two nations on this continent have also chosen sides in this conflict.

Another week goes by, more debate happens. God, faith, the pope, and the Semantics of Enslavement seem to be this week's main sources of debate.

The College of Equilism
No news has been heard yet of a new Cabinet. The Chancellors from Restored Othalla’s Cabinet are still in in office until the appointment of new Chancellors.

- A proposal for regional holidays and titles

- The SIREN-project
- The Committee-section of the Laws & Procedures of the College has been amended with all votes in favour.
- Another amendment of the Law & Procedures of the College has been voted on, with the majority voting in favour.

Bar & Games
A funny video, age, Cybernations and what you’re listening to are hot in The Bar.

Tse Moana and Nagabeth will be hearing the results of the story-writing competition they entered tomorrow, Sunday the 26th. We all wish them luck! Hopefully they will post the stories on the Equilism forum. If they do, we’ll be sure to include a link in next week’s update!

On the Games front, our usual/classical games are still very popular. Yes, we do love spamming!

Role Playing & Main Street
The usual games in the RP-forum are still popular.

On the RP-front, things are still looking pretty active.
- On the War! Front – caused by Govvistan’s Grand Elf’s refusal to post a picture of himself with pointy ears - it looks like the first major battle is not far away. Tarricoe’s fleet attacked one of Tycholand’s ports, but Tycholandian ships attack from behind and Tarricoe escaped. Ships from Westleism arrived and it looks like he and Tarricoe will attack Tycholand. Meanwhile, Tycholand is threatening the life of Tarricoe’s second-in-command, Ixtapa, who was captured in the first attack. President Cowley of Flexion has called for a peace summit and many nations will attend.
- On the Subterfuge-front – the RP where a Tycholandian airliner was shot down – things are also heating-up. Seriphitican forces are in pursuit of the commando’s who entered a paramilitary base where they managed to recover a hard-drive which possibly contains evidence related to the shooting-down of the aircraft.

The good ‘ol classical games are still popular in the Games & Fun forum, so there’s nothing to report on that front. Those of you who are wide-awake will just have noticed that I did report something on that front.

It was Westwind’s turn to launch Caption Competition 32, as he won 31. This is the image:
giant_beer_cups.jpg

Role Playing & Main Street
While the classical games are still popular, the war surrounding Govvistan’s High Elf’s picture continues. Despite President Cowley’s best efforts, fighting is still going on, although it is less intense than it was. A cease-fire is in the works. The only battle is between the fleets of Tycholand and Tarricoe, with fleets from Westleism and Thoughtful Ideas close-by.

Equilism has just opened diplomatic relations with Evermoore and is considering opening relations with The New Inquisition.

Military Affairs
E-Army soldiers have been spotted wearing orange-coloured clothes in Ukraine, surfing in The West Pacific, flying starships at warpspeed through Space, acting cool in Amazenien, The New White Islands and Anime and generally being a nuisance for invaders.

Chaucerin resigns
Chaucerin has resigned all the offices he holds with immediate effect: the Lord High Advocacy, Member of the Triumvirate of Guardians, soldier of the E-Army and Admin. Chaucerin faces a busy real-life, but also wants more say for the newer members of Equilism. Chaucerin is a long-term member of Equilism and has held numerous positions. He will, thankfully, not be leaving Equilism. His announcement was met with much sadness and thank-you’s. Thank you for all you’ve done for the region, Chauce!

There are updates surrounding the crisis of the Govvistan’s High Elf’s refusal to post a picture of himself. Tycholand was faced in Thorough Port against Westleism, Thoughtful Ideas and Tarricoe, but reinforcements arrived on time. Tycholand wanted to let the enemy fleets depart, on the condition that rhey signed a cease-fire. Meanwhile, a cease-fire in the Peace Summit, hosted by Flexion’s President Cowley, still has to be signed and the conditions agreed upon. After the first day, everyone has retired for the night.
Discussions are still going on about the West Equilism Trade Association (WETA).

Equilism Statement Regarding the Events in The North Pacific

The Foreign Affairs Chancellory of The Realm of Equilism has been monitoring the unfolding events in The North Pacific with concern for our friends and neighbors. It is our long-held belief that all regions have the right to self-determination without outside interference in their internal affairs. However, it is also true that the events in great regions such as TNP can affect and concern regions throughout NationStates.

Our greatest concern is for the well-being of the people of TNP, and the stability of the region. And it is our true hope, that all parties concerned in the current situation will place the best interests of the region above personal agendas. Our own experience has taught us that there are times when a region must come together and overcome strong differences in order to create a new path that leads to a rejuvenated future. We fail ourselves when we don't change and adjust to new realities and situations.

It has always been Equilism's policy to support the legitimate government of any given region, and we will not depart from that policy in this situation. We support the constitutionally elected government of The North Pacific.

We also recognize that a constitution must serve the region it is written for. A region should not suffer to serve a constitution. When a time comes that a Constitution becomes a burden, rather than an enabler of activity and progress, it is time to seriously consider what needs to be done in order to ensure the viability of the government and the vitality of the region.

It is encouraging to us that the Prime Minister and UN Delegate have engaged in discussions concerning the situation, rather than moving to an immediate state of all-out civil war. The North Pacific has particularly suffered through too many delegate/government crises in its long history. Open and frank discussions among the concerned parties will hopefully lead to a new and bright future for the region.

We have also taken notice of the deployment of troops from Gatesville into TNP. We are not aware of any specific or official requests for military support from any authority within the region, and look forward to the quick withdrawal of our friends in Gatesville from TNP, in order to de-escalate an already difficult situation. We know that Gatesville has a long history itself of supporting the right of self-determination in the internal affairs of each and every region.

In conclusion, Equilism supports The North Pacific, and wishes only the best for the present and the future of all. Times such as these are very difficult, and bring out strong emotions on all sides. We hope that a mutually amicable resolution will leave TNP a stronger region than before. If there is any way in which we may be of assistance to the region in securing stability, we would be honored to be of help.

Equilism Foreign Affairs Chancellory
21st Day of July 2007

Executive Summary of The Monarch:

Short version: We love you guys. Stop fighting.

-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-

Hi TNP!

My name is Tycholand and I'm Equilism's Chancellor for Foreign Affairs. The Chancellor has appointed me as Equilism's Ambassador to TNP, so I'll be terrorising you all. :P

Thanks for putting that statement in here, Lewis and Clark! :)

Equilism Statement Regarding the Events in Taijitu and The Rejected Realms

The Foreign Affairs Chancellory of The Realm of Equilism has been following the raid of The Rejected Realms and its aftermath with great concern. We strongly condemn Red Kagran's invasion and the reprehensible methods he employed to accomplish it. Our major objections are as follows:
  • 1) The very act of invading denies the right of regional sovereignty that Equilism has long upheld.

    2) To invade under the premise of spreading democracy both ignores the right of regions to self-determination and displays a dangerous lack of awareness of the political situation in The Rejected Realms.

    3) The unauthorized use of the Founder nation shows a deep lack of respect for due process.

    4) In utilizing game mechanics to make the invasion viable, Red Kagran and his associates took no regard for the right of Taijitu civilian citizens to refuse participation in an extremely controversial military operation.
We in Equilism understand that Red Kagran's actions were not condoned by the executive Government Cabinet of Taijitu. We thank those who have taken pains to apologize for what has happened, particularly Allama and The G Rebellion. We approve of Taijitu's swift action to impeach the author of this travesty.

However, the rest of the region of Taijitu cannot be held blameless. Those who helped plan and execute a foreign coup, disregarding civil rights for the sake of military expediency and taking it upon themselves to formulate Taijitu's foreign policy, must be held accountable for their actions. Those who made possible, either by direct assistance or by their silent and knowing consent, the dissolution of civil authority and the destruction of liberty, must be brought to justice. To do anything less is to condone their actions and to excuse in many what has been condemned in one. Most importantly, it would demonstrate that the citizens of Taijitu have not understood the gravity of the offenses committed in their name.

In this election season, the future of Taijitu hangs more than ever in the balance. Taijitu can no longer afford to ignore the invader-defender dynamic. Neutrality may only be obtained by foregoing all regionally sanctioned military action outside of the warzones. Maintaining the present course of unpredictable military policy will result in the closing of foreign relations between Taijitu and Equilism.

It has long been Equilism's policy to hold no foreign relations with invaders, believing as we do that there can be no ideological common ground between those who deny the right of regional sovereignty and us who fight only to restore it. Should Sovereign Dixie be elected Delegate of Taijitu, despite his acquiescence in the invasion of The Rejected Realms and disregard for civil process and authority, we will expect immediate and definitive action taken to disprove Taijitu's invader standing.

We in Equilism hope that the citizens of Taijitu still stand for the ideals of democracy, fair justice, and the combat of tyranny. It is on the basis of those ideals alone that we call on Taijitu to demand, for all its citizens, justice uncompromised.

Foreign Affairs
The only news that is to report on the FA-front is that Equilism has rejected an Embassy exchange request with The New Inquisition.

Military Affairs
Equilism loves Canada! E-Army soldiers have been sighted in Canadian Goose Land and in Canadian Scottish Alliance. They’ve also been spotted helping-out Fort Azure. Our soldiers have also been hammering invaders with hammers and poking them with sickles in the mass-battle in Marixst Leninist Party.

The College of Equilism
The only activity in the College at the moment is about new members joining and about the Regional Holidaus & Titles.

UN-resolution Voting
Equilism voted 4-4-0. Our UN-Delegate voted against the proposal.

Bar & Games
In the Bar & Games section, postcounts was everything the past week! Nagabeth reached 3000 posts and The Merlion and Tycholand both reached 4000 posts. This after a competition between The Merlion and Tycholand on who could reach 4000 posts first: the spamming largely took places in the Games & Fun forum (Tycholand won). Other topics in the Bar are what you’re listening to, your thoughts, Chaucerin’s resignation, blogs, the CTE’ing of Astarial, Zorn Uzkul’s announcement, When Squirrels Attack! and the last book.
Also, Tse Moana pointed us to the hilarious http://youtube.com/watch?v=YgnloJgui1U]Human Tetris![/url]

Role Playing & Main Street
The traditional games in Role Play are still popular.
In Merl’s Live Music Pub, people are waving around guns, talking about guns and wanting drinks.

Equilism World Cup
ewc2007.png

In the Equilism World Cup, the Quarter Finals and the Semi-Finals have passed. Four nations progressed from the Quarter Finals to the Semi-Finals (Tycholand, Felasia, Westwind and Restored Othalla) resulting in the matches Tycholand vs. Felasia and Westwind vs. Restored Othalla. Felasia and Westwind won their respective matches and will continue onto the Final on the 24th of June!
The Quarter Final was complicated by the CTE’ing of Cernun, which meant that Tycholand was allowed to come into the Quarter Final (see Match Schedules and results thread for more information).

Foreign Affairs
Not much movement in the FA offices this week, although we have received an invitation from the International Union.

Military Affairs
E-Army soldiers have been seen throughout the North Pacific...At least their standard-issue coats will keep them warm there.

The College of Equilism
- The vote for the Lord High Advocate Confirmation is open.
- We also have a few new members to welcome. Applications are welcome anytime!

UN-resolution Voting
Unnecessary Animal Cruelty - 5 Aye, 0 Nay
Repeal "The Right to Form Unions" - 2 Aye, 5 Nay

Bar & Games
A slight drop off in activity, no doubt due to the summer break. Still, games such as "Who will post next?", "5000 bottles of beer" are evergreen and no doubt the spamming will continue soon.

Role Playing & Main Street
While the classical games are still popular, the war surrounding Govvistan’s High Elf’s picture has been put on hold. We are still waiting on the second day of negotiations to begin, but it is not without pressure. There has already been an assasination attempt on Thoughtful Ideas' Empress. We wait with baited breath...

With a wave of interest, Naivetry has opened her self titled Expedition Services. We look forward to the fruits of her labour.

Open Debate Board
Discussion on the upcoming US elections, "God doesn't work, faith is a trick" and the Big Bang Theory just doesn't stop. A couple of new debates have arisen too; we'll keep you posted.

This weeks award goes to The Philosophes, with this beauty:
The Philosophes:
I'm assuming this was a knee-jerk response, because frankly its a statement unbecoming of you, Chainik. And I say this as a man suffering from 10 hours of work on his feet at 130 in the morning, so my sense is about as intact as the china in a china shop mid-bull-run. If that made sense.

Equilism World Cup 2007

The Final was played between host Felasia and Westwind. In a fierce match in a jam-packed Unity Stadium, Felasia players were contaminated by the Storm, and not by radiation! They defeated Westwind 2-1.

Felasia vs. Westwind (Unity Stadium, 21:00)
Felasia: 4,131 - 2
Westwind: 21,633 – 1

Congratulations to Felasia, who takes away the World Cup Trophy and 10 Tse Points!

Foreign Affairs
The FA department is currently producing a statement regarding recent events in The North Pacific;

Military Affairs
- There's been sightings of E-Army members searching for the Dark Truth, coming over all Humphrey Bogart-like in Casablanca and quackers in Ducks Go QUACK.
- Men wanted for hazardous journey. Small wages. Bitter cold. Long months of winter. Constant danger. Safe return doubtful. Honour and recognition in case of success. And lots of shiny stuff. Now recruiting!

The College of Equilism
- Naivety has been confirmed as Lord High Advocate and has been welcomed warmly by the other Triumvirate members. This has also resulted in Astarial's nomination as Advocate General.
- Applications are welcome anytime!

UN-resolution Voting
Delegate Felasia has voted AGAINST the recent resolution 'Environmental Science', based on a vote of 2 Aye and 2 Nay.

Bar & Games
There has been plenty of spamming fun in the Bar, with '5000 bottles of beer' proving very popular (too much so?).

Role Playing & Main Street
We're still waiting for Nai's lovely maps, while the rest of Main Street seems to have succumbed to the regional summer-slumber. This has also spread to the regular RP-ing crowd, but the Never-Ending Argument has (predictably?) continued.

Open Debate Board
There's been a huge upswing in activity here and, not suprisingly, we've been discussing American politics. Bush commuting Libby's sentence has stirred much debate and debators in the upcoming US elections have continued their merry venting.

Equilism Update

Regional Power: Very High

Equilism Wiki: http://ns.goobergunch.net/wiki/index.php/Category:Equilism

Foreign Affairs
Responses have been provided to the occurances in The North Pacific and in the Rejected Realms, and have been disseminated to our various embassies. The new Acting Chancellor, Flexion, also apologises for the late publishing of this issue of Equilism Update.

Military Affairs
- Like the little baby ducks in cartoons, E-Army soldiers have followed their fearless leaders back into Ducks Go QUACK, although we doubt that they've yet managed to use bright yellow down as camouflage.
- Men wanted for hazardous journey. Small wages. Bitter cold. Long months of winter. Constant danger. Safe return doubtful. Honour and recognition in case of success. And lots of shiny stuff. Now recruiting!

The College of Equilism
- Astarial has been confirmed as Advocate General. Congratulations Asta!
- Westwind has been using his powers as Monarch to make some very pleasing proclamations: Enter Lord Chaucerin, Father of Laws and Lady Tse Moana of the Waterfall!

UN-resolution Voting
Delegate Felasia has voted FOR the recent resolution 'UN Labor Relations Act', based on a vote of 4 Aye and 0 Nay.

Bar & Games
Restored Othalla has been leading a new wave of spam-warfare in the Bar & Games subforum.

Role Playing & Main Street
We're still waiting for Nai's lovely maps, while the rest of Main Street seems to have succumbed to the regional summer-slumber, although in a gritty typicality of Equilismers, the 'Attack the Previous Poster' thread has been going strong.

Open Debate Board
It's been a strong week overall for the ODB, with much debate about the dropping of atomic weapons on Hiroshima and Nagasaki in WW2, more talk about God and Chainik Hocker has been restraining us from a religion flamewar.

Quote of The Week

Canada6:
Ironically, it's probably the simplicity of evolutionary theory contrasting with the complexity of the visible world that makes it so hard for some to accept. That's when they start pulling out bananas and pictures of croco-ducks.
In his very insightful manner, Canada6 again gives us this weeks best quote, although Chaucerin gave him a run for his money with this one in the very same thread...

Chaucerin:
No evidence for it, no reason to beleive it - except for faith alone. Occam also cuts you on this one...
Carebears were invented by an evil, evil force - no question...
And there's no forgetting Astarial.

Astarial:
Clearly the invisible pink unicorns are invisibly pink, not invisibly blue, or green, or any other blasphemous color.

That about wraps up this weeks update from the friendly folks in Equilism. We wish you all the best and we'll see you next week. Take care!

Foreign Affairs
Relations have been closed with The Non-Aligned States and Taiijitu, statements are available here.

Military Affairs
- An unusually slow week for the E-Army soldiers has resulted in the spontaneous production of awards and shiny things. 17 Gold bars, 27 Silver bars and even a Defender-Demi God title have been issued. Congratulations all soldiers!

The College of Equilism
News.bmp
After a protracted run-up with only one nominee, the College has elected Restored Othalla as Lord Chancellor (again). The results of the vote were:
Vote:
Yes [ 9 ]  [90.00%]
No [ 0 ]  [0.00%]
Abstain [ 1 ]  [10.00%]
The outlook is very positive for this next term, and we can be confident that Restored Othalla has many new ideas up his sleeve.

UN-Resolution Voting
In what might be Felasia's last vote as Chancellor of the Realm, Accesible Family Planning has been give a thumbs up, citizens voting Aye 4, Nay 3. We're almost finished electing our next Chancellor too. The Monkye is ahead 16 to 4 over Wagger-tribe.

Bar & Games
There has been some more spamming, quite a bit coming from Thoughful Ideas. Good to see him back. Wesleism has also discovered an addiction to spamming and has taken time off to recover.

Role Playing & Main Street
There hasn't been much real RP'ing since Govv left but the characterisation threads (Attack/Be Nice to the Previous Poster and The Last One Wins) have been very popular.

Open Debate Board
It's been a slower week on the ODB, with the discussion of dropping atomic weapons on Hiroshima and Nagasaki in WW2 still stirring some discussion. It was (on the 6th and 10th of August) also the aniversaries of the bombings.

Quote of The Week
Chainik Hocker:

Chainik Hocker:
The Monkye:
Is that safe?
You can strap it to the roof of a Delorean going 88 miles per hour with no ill effects, so yes I'd say it's safe.

It has been known to create paradoxes with the potential to uncreate all of existence, though, so you need to read your instruction manual with care before you operate it.

That about wraps up this weeks update from the friendly folks in Equilism. We wish you all the best and we'll see you next week. Take care!

Military Affairs

The E-Army has once again won a great victory over the poorly organized and sadly wanting invader body yesterday!

Marching in behind our fearless leader, The Merlion, we within the E-Army made invaders quail in the faraway land of Zulu. Invaders thought to conquer this land of warrior folk, but they were pushed out of the region by a coalition of organized and sharp defenders. The E-Army blanketed the land, using classic Zulu warrior techniques. Our great Commander Merl charged straight into the teeming masses of invaders, while the rest of his soldiers flanked the enemy on each side. Our reserve, not watching the battle, waited before striking until the most opportune moment in the classic Zulu style.

Our fantastic soldiers have once again prevailed, and NationStates is again safe from tyrants. Who can possibly step up and toe the line with Equilismers? I cannot answer that question, and there are no few invaders who know that their own lackadaisical efforts pale in comparison to our great hammer.

The peace will last until another invader group decides to be beaten.

Chancellory of Internal Affairs Weekly Update - 15 August 2007

Chancellor: wagger-tribe
Interior Officiates: The Monkye

*****

The College of Equilism
The new Chancellors have been announced, and approved by the Monarch.

Westwind:
Restored Othalla:
Ladies and Gentlemen,

It is with pride that I present my new Cabinet, with the blessing of the Monarch. This Cabinet will be under a lot of stress (mainly by me breathing down their necks) to perform, to make the region grow once again. We have been hit heavily by this years summervacation (or slump as you might know it). We therefore need to rebuild. I as your newly chosen Lord Chancellor hope to turn things for the better, and I hope to do this with the following Chancellors:

Chancellory of Internal Affairs : Wagger-Tribe

Chancellory of Foreign Affairs : Flexion

Chancellory of Defence : Tarricoe

Chancellory of Intrigue : Tse Moana

Chancellors, please rise and take up your new seats in the College. Let's make this a good term! Show them what we got!

Restored Othalla
Lord Chancellor of the Realm of Equilism
As the Lord Chancellor said, I fully endorse the new Cabinet of Chancellors. Congratulations to you all !

Signed this 15th Day of August, 2007
Westwind, Monarch of The Realm of Equilism
Voting is also taking place on an amendment to the Constitution, relating to the timing of elections.

*****

UN Resolution Voting
Repeal "SPCC Regulation Act" is receiving an overwhelming respose, with 4 Nay votes. Voting ends on Monday August 20.

Bar & Games
There has been quite some spamming amount of useless important posting happening here. Feel free to add to the spam postcount!

Role Playing & Main Street
Nai's Expedition Services has been churning out maps all week right here, although a very bad dust storm has obviously kept other vendors inside. The Role Playing forum has also suffered, although once more we have seen the characterisation threads (Attack/Be Nice to the Previous Poster and The Last One Wins) prove very popular.

*****

Open Debate Board
Once again, plenty of diligent debate has been stirred. We've seen more on the 2008 US Elections, plenty of colour and depth in 'God doesn't work, faith is a trick' and some especially heated talk in Conspiracy Theories. Debaters have also been enlightened by Neo-Conservatisms Independant Study on the Peloponnesian War.

Quote of The Week
Chaucerin:
Flexion:
...Also, being a liberal does not make you good nor does being a conservative make you bad.

Four squares of stupid...

The E-Army also commends two long-serving troopers on their recent promotions. The Merlion, twice former Chancellor of Defense, has been assigned the rank of Captain, and wagger-tribe received the rank of Lance-Corporal. Congratulations, soldiers!

The College of Equilism

This week the College voted unanimously to pass an amendment to the Laws and Procedures of the College of Equilism, changing election days to the first of the month.
Westwind:
I congratulate The College on its good sense and wisdom. I am pleased to approve and sign the amended Laws & Procedures of the College of Equilism: Duties, Rights & Votes.

Signed this 23rd day of August, 2007
Westwind, Monarch of The Realm of Equilism
The College is also discussing whether to seek the opening of a chapter of the Order of Gryphons in Equilism.

In other news, Lord Chancellor Restored Othalla has extended a roll call of College members through the 1st of September, returning Equilism citizen Adyndril has applied for admittance (accompanied by much applause and a 'woot'), and Chaucerin has been welcomed back into the College.

*****

UN Resolution Voting
Repeal "SPCC Regulation Act" was passed 5,904 votes to 2,552. Equilism voted against the repeal.

Bar & Games
This week in spam game history, "5000 bottles of beer" passed the 2000 bottle mark. "Ask the Guru" has also been revived, dispensing mystical wisdom on everything from the meaning of life to the significance of a smile. As always, the classic word association and disassociation games and other traditional spam dishes have proven very popular.

Role Playing & Main Street
The Role Playing forum has as usual seen much activity in Attack/Be Nice to the Previous Poster and The Last One Wins. Nai's Expedition Services is also hard at work on map revisions here, while other business owners enjoy the summer sunshine.

*****

Open Debate Board
This week on the ODB, Neo-Conservatism and Canada6 have continued a detailed discussion of Neo's Independant Study on the Peloponnesian War, with the debate touching on everything from Euro-facism and the war in Iraq to the characterization of today's and tomorrow's most important political regimes. The argument in Conspiracy Theories has turned to a discussion of the role of indoctrination in religion and politics, while the popular Political Compass test has come under fire in 2008 US Elections. Meanwhile The big bang theory has gone off on yet another tangent, this time touching the nature of a non-theistic absolute morality, while in 'God doesn't work, faith is a trick', Naivetry has subjected the colorful Richard Dawkins to a lengthy though admittedly ad hominem attack.

The College of Equilism

Discussions about the opening of a chapter of the Order of Gryphons in Equilism are ongoing.

Meanwhile, Chaucerin has sportingly agreed to be the first victim initiate in the Equilism Rite of Passage, a newly proposed measure that may accompany admission to the College in the future. While Lord Chancellor Restored Othalla sees the Rite as just "a bit more fun" to accompany joining the College, at least one enthusiastic Equilismer has been seen pulling out black robes and a torch for use during "questioning."

*****

UN Resolution Voting
The Monkye as Chancellor of the Realm has voted to approve the repeal of "Individual Self-Determination."

Bar & Games
The return of Wesleiesm has kick-started another week of spontaneous spam production. Over 100 more bottles of beer have been taken off the wall, words have been associated and disassociated, avatars have been scrutinized, wishes corrupted, questions asked, and greetings posted.

Role Playing & Main Street
Attack/Be Nice to the Previous Poster and The Last One Wins are providing plenty of competitive violence, creative kindness, and endless argument in the RP forum.

*****

Open Debate Board
This week on the ODB, 'God doesn't work, faith is a trick' has been revived by a new participant in the debate. What will Narangue say in answer to Lady Asta? Who will get the last word? Stay tuned to find out on next week's episode of the Equilism Weekly Update.

The College of Equilism

Discussions about the opening of a chapter of the Order of Gryphons in Equilism are winding down. Naivetry has suggested it is time for the matter be put to a vote.

Chaucerin has completed the first half of the Equilism Rite of Passage (for excerpts, see Quote of the Week, below). The attention of the College has now turned to the creation of an appropriate dare. A consensus seems to have formed that he must post in lolcats style for a week, including at least one post on Equilism's Open Debate Board. Chauce's response:
Chaucerin:
That way at least, someone might beat me...sorry, couldn't resist.

As for the dare...come to daddy...!

*****

UN Resolution Voting
Equilism voted to approve the resolution "Water Quality and Conservation," which was passed 6,700 votes to 1,795.

Chancellor of the Realm The Monkye has also restarted discussions on UN Resolutions to be proposed.

Bar & Games
Fresh-baked pies are being offered in the E-Bar courtesy of Hamajahala, and the accompanying sugar rush may help to explain why the usual spam games are still going strong. Several Equilism citizens have newly revealed their faces in Photo Gallery 1, and this revelatory trend is continuing with the creation of an Equilism facebook group.

Role Playing & Main Street
Role Playing and Main Street have been quiet lately, with the eternal exception of Attack/Be Nice to the Previous Poster and The Last One Wins. Nai's Expedition Services is blaming slow production times on the rigeurs of education.

*****

Open Debate Board
Opposition has found the newest participant on the Open Debate Board in 'God doesn't work, faith is a trick'. Chauce's response to Narangue has pushed the thread over the 200 post mark.

Meanwhile, The Monkye has just proposed a new topic of discussion: Globalisation. Come by and add your thoughts!

Quote of The Week:
Just a simple question...

Given a room that contains Neo, Noot, Groth, Asta, Moo, Oth, Tse, Neboe and Equility exclusively, and...
Given that this room represents the entire political spectrum...

Describe this given political spectrum; your place within it; and finish with a Haiku describing this venture.
Old man, you are outta your mind - way to go.

The spectrum ranges from a near biblical and thoroughly triumphantist conservatism to a thoroughly idealistic and entirely impractical application of the deeply flawed systems of communism. About the center of the room a number of left-of-center social democrats with a wider than expected range of social standards. Next to Neo, I am the furthest to the right.

...and Noot is wearing assless chaps...again...

Many on the left.
One is alone on the right.
Between, I translate.
Well done, bravo !

One last question................... Don't you think it's about time Noot washed those chaps ?
No mortal soap could rend from them the filth and soilage of his...wait a minute, if they are assless chaps, they'd probably be all right.

As Foreign Affairs Deputy for Equilism, I would like to offer my apologies for the recent inactivity. The Equilism Foreign Affairs Chancellory is in the process of evaluating its open embassies and foreign ambassadors; and now seemed like a good time to make sure we had a presence on these forums. ;)

Stay tuned over the next few days for a Foreign Affairs announcement on the events in TNP.

All has been quiet on the front lines; E-Army soldiers have spent their free hours plotting ways to recruit.

Chancellory of Foreign Affairs Weekly Update – 20 October 2007

Current Chancellory Posts

Chancellor of Foreign Affairs: Flexion
Deputy Chancellor of Foreign Affairs: Naivetry
Senior Advisor to the Chancellor: Tycholand

Some movements have been made in the Foreign Affairs department with the following notices being of significance:

- The Monkye has been relieved of his ambassadorial duties in the Evermoore, as relations with them have been closed.

- Relations with ACCEL have been closed, hence Neo-Conservatism will no longer be posted there.

- Tse Moana is no longer ambassador to City Anhk Morpork, with a statement to be released soon about the closing of relations.

- An offer to join the GAFSR has been declined by the Chancellor, and the backlog of other offers is being dealt with.

A Visit from Our Founder

Equility, original Founding Nation of Equilism, paid a visit to the upper-level governmental forums this week. For several of those present, it was their first meeting with the Equilism legend. Prior to this appearance, Equility had not posted on the forum since May 22, 2006. In his absence, Westwind has maintained control of the Founding Nation, keeping Equilism secure.

Equility:
Hello everyone, long time no see! I'm glad to see that this community is still active and alive. Foremost I'm happy to see that our core ideals have survived and are still being practiced (even outside the sphere of the game). I hope and expect this friendly and open community to survive for a long time to come. I am proud on what you all have achieved, I really am.

There is so much I want to know and to ask, but for now I'll leave it to this. I don't have much time to pass by this forum, and my time will remain restricted, however I'll do my best to pass by once in a while!

In the wake of Equility's visit, wilting flowers on the windowsill were seen to burst spontaneously into bloom, at least one government official was spotted dancing, and there was much rejoicing.

Recruitment
Tarricoe joined The Monkye this week in recruiting; official statistics have not yet been compiled, but it seems that Tarricoe will take home this week's Recruiter of the Week medal.

Schism Day: October 20
This week, Equilism commemorates the one-year anniversary of the split that divided the region into two different and opposing governments, from Westwind's Coup on Oct. 20, 2006 until Reunification on Jan. 4, 2007. All Equilism friends and citizens are invited to learn about and/or reflect on the events of that tumultuous period in this thread [link].

The Monkye:
And the Cricket World Cup has come to a close.
With the final match played, the standings are as follows:

1. Flexion
2. Wartom
3. Twobagger
4. Naivetry
5. Restored Othalla
6. Bogans and Boozers
7. Felasia
8. Tycholand
9. The Monkye
10. Thoughtful Ideas

Congratulations all nations on a fantastic tournament!

Team Statistics will be posted in the Pavillion soon for those interested.

Naivetry has suggested a Constitutional amendment to provide alternative requirements for membership in the College. Currently, prospective members must wait 2 weeks before being approved; Naivetry suggests that different requirements, such as the Equilism Rite of Passage recently demonstrated by Chaucerin, might encourage activity and faster integration into government.

Repeal "Max Barry Day" is under vote in the UN forum, standing currently at 1 Aye and 5 Nay. Members seem to agree that the original resolution should be repealed, but are criticizing the current repeal as hypocritical and counter-productive.

From flying barbeque to a head-butting contest, the fun in the E-Bar never stops. Spam games and quizzes have also seen a continued spate of activity, due in part no doubt to ongoing post count wars between Equilismers...

Events on Flight AN528 have continued to stall. The present writer speculates that this may, in fact, be a novel new RP technique wherein the tension and suspense of the situation is portrayed by expanding disproportionately the time elapsed between production of new scenes. In other news, this writer also announces that eating copious quantities of cookies and chocolate bars is the only effective way to slim those hard to reach areas. Stay tuned for more disingenuous misantidisuncounterinformation next week...

This week on the ODB, Climate change - fact or fiction? continued talking about Al Gore before being set back on topic by Hamajahala, while in Canada is governmentless, The Brits take back what was theirs Canadian politics continue to be a topic of much native interest and American/Australian bewilderment.

In the Equilism Cricket World Cup Pavilion...
Thoughtful Ideas:
Well done foreign teams.
Do not offer my team any condolences, they are awaiting their time slot in the scorpion pit...
That, friends, is another week in Equilism. We wish you all the best and we'll be back again next week. Take care!

Indeed, it is shiny. :D

Equilism Statement Regarding the Events in The North Pacific and the Rejected Realms

The Realm of Equilism extends congratulations to The North Pacific and Great Bights Mum on their recovery of the UN delegacy. As was rumored, the E-Army supported GBM, Former English Colonies, Haor Chall, and the other members of the legitimate, constitutional government during the coup, and in securing the transition of power after Emperor Matthuis abandoned the delegacy.

Our reasons for this were twofold. First, Emperor Matthuis was not a constitutionally elected delegate gone rogue, but a formerly trusted member of the region who seized new power unlawfully. More importantly, however, EM's coup soon became more than just an internal conflict. His continued reign depended heavily upon the outside assistance of Gatesville, Catlandatopia and others after the initial takeover had been accomplished. We in Equilism could not condone by inaction this blatant disregard for the sovereignty of The North Pacific.

Equilism has long supported the right of all regions to self-determination without outside interference in their internal affairs. This belief in regional sovereignty governs our stance against invading and motivates our actions as defenders. We understood that Gatesville shared this fundamental belief in regional sovereignty. Gatesville's intervention in the internal affairs of The North Pacific has thrown this into serious doubt.

Foreign relations between Equilism and Gatesville are hereby placed on probationary status. Gatesville's embassy in Equilism will be downgraded to a consulate, subject to future review. With the delegacy of The North Pacific secure, the E-Army will lend our aid as needed to the Rejected Realms to restore Kandarin after the usurpation by Emperor Matthuis.

In conclusion, Equilism stands by our friends and by our principles. If there is any way in which we may be of further assistance in defending either one, we would be honored to lend our aid.

Equilism Foreign Affairs Chancellory
27th Day of October 2007

====================

EDIT: October, not July. :duh:

SPECIAL DOUBLE ISSUE!
Two weeks for the price of one!

E-Army soldiers were some of the first to respond to the delegate crisis in The North Pacific, lending their support to Great Bights Mum and the constitutional government. After helping to ensure the safe transfer of the delegacy back to GBM following the self-exile of Emperor Matthuis, E-Army soldiers pursued EM to the Rejected Realms, where they helped to overtake Emperor Matthuis and reinstate Kandarin by the next update.

In addition to these high-profile maneuvers, however, the E-Army also found time to join our allies in the successful defense of Woodstock. Congratulations soldiers - rock on.;)

The Foreign Affairs Chancellory has been busy these past two weeks tracking events in The North Pacific and the Rejected Realms. Our statement on those events was originally issued separately from this update; please feel free to contact your ambassador, FA Deputy Naivetry, or FA Chancellor Flexion if you have not received a copy.

In addition, Equilism opened foreign relations with Europeia this week. New ambassador assignments are yet to be posted, but should be out soon.

Equilism's Internal Affairs Chancellory announces the start of activities gearing up for the holiday season:

In addition to discussing the events in The North Pacific and the Rejected Realms, the College of Equilism saw the beginning of the November election cycle with The Monkye nominating Tarricoe and Tarricoe returning the favor for the position of Lord Chancellor (LC), Equilism's Head of Government. Flexion was also nominated for LC.

However, on November 3, the Monarch, Westwind, exercised the emergency powers granted to the Triumvirate of Guardians under Section VIII of the Constitution of the Realm to admit five members who had been waiting for admittance to the College: Hamajahala, Garneska, Wartom Pendragon, MILLITARISM, and Adyndril.

Westwind:
Emergency Actions to be taken:

1. All College applicants shall be processed and results provided before voting in the elections begin.
2. All College applicants shall be presumed to be eligible to hold office, prior to completion of processing. And so may run for office, or prepare seek a Chancellorship.
3. If processing finds reason to deny College Membership, the applicant's candidancy shall then be voided.
The College Admission Emergency Powers Action was seconded by Guardian Naivetry, Lord High Advocate, marking the first use of the Triumvirate's emergency powers since the ratification of the Constitution.

According to Westwind, the goal of this emergency action was "to increase participation in our Democratic process by ensuring our active members have the opportunity to do so." While there was originally no intent to effect the timing of the election cycle, the Triumvirate has concurred with the judgment of the third Guardian, Neo-Conservatism, and his oversight of elections as Governor General:
Neo-Conservatism:
The nomination period will be conducted again, this time with new members having the opportunity to run for office. After a new 2 days of nominations, we'll start an entirely new vote.
New nominations will run until Tuesday, November 6th, followed by a three-day vote. Candidates and their platforms may be found on the Election Board.

The resolution Passport Standardisation Act was passed 5,997 votes to 3,253, and implemented in all UN member nations. Equilism voted 3-1 in favor of the resolution.

"Extraordinary!" "Phenomenal!" "Flabbergasting!"

These are just some of the comments received* by this writer on the amount of spam generated in the past two weeks by the diligent residents of the Bar and Games forum. 5000 bottles of beer on the wall rapidly approached the landmark 1000 figure in the week of Oct. 21-27, and has now surpassed it by at least 150 bottles. Meanwhile, Word Association, Attack/Be Nice to the Previous Poster, and other classic games remain ever popular.

* i.e., totally fabricated.

The hijackers aboard Flight AN528, still sitting on the airstrip in Tycho City, have gone unnoticed for another two weeks. Equilismers speculate that the time continuum in Tycholand has recently suffered disruption, as that nation ceased-to-exist earlier this week.

This week on the ODB, debaters in Climate change - fact or fiction? questioned the viability of alternative sources of energy, while Phil's latest op-ed piece met with much applause. Finally, 'God doesn't work, faith is a trick' has sputtered back to life after Canada6 posted a link comparing national per capita GDP and religiosity.

Astarial:
Just a note... I believe Dali was a rogue delegate, not a rouge delegate.  :P
Wesleiesm:
I bet he looked fabulous though.
That, friends, is another (two) week(s) in Equilism. We wish you all the best and we'll be back again next week (probably). Take care!
