The Naizerri National All-Stars Tournament (NNAST) is a 8 team end of season tournament for the top 6 teams in the National League One and the finalists of the Naizerri National Cup. If one of the finalists of the NNC is in the top 6 teams, the 7th best team enters and so on and so forth. The NNAST is split into two 4 team groups, with the top 2 from each advancing to the semi-finals.
The semi-finals will be played at the Wabirö Dome in Wagbätä, the home of Naizerre's national side, with the final also being held there. The 80,000 seater stadium will have a new pitch laid just for the event, with the first use of the new retractable roof planned if the rains typical of the month persist. The 8 teams in the tournament are:
SuperSport Rangers - The reigning National Division champions, SuperSport came out of nowhere last season to upset the established Boango Teams, winning the title on the last day of the season. Naizerre international captain Joel Ruffier leads the club, having been made player-manager at the start of the season.
Boango Wildsters - Traditionally the powerhouse of Naizerri football, and currently contributing 11 players to the national side including exciting young striker Druze, Wildster have triumphed in 8 of the last 10 National League One seasons but were upset by SuperSport Rangers come from nowhere win of the league. They'll be looking to avenge themselves in the All-Stars Tournament.
Boango United - If the Red and White of the Wildstars have dominated the National League over the past decade, it is their Red and Black neighbours and rivals that have claimed the Nazerri National Cup for their own. 7 wins and 9 finals appearances, the current holders of the cup include 4 internationals, and Naizerre's record cap holder Jardel. Knocked into third place by SuperSport's title win, they'll be looking to defeat both them and the Wildstars, and claim their place at the top of Naizerri football.
Lamata Warriors - There once was a time when if the winners of either league or cup weren't the Lamata Warriors, then something had gone very very wrong. Naizerre's most successful domestic team boast 42 league titles and 37 cup wins but haven't won either for almost 15 years. The All-Stars Tournament does represent their best chance of a trophy for half a decade though, with Naizerre's number one goalkeeper Prince Samba rejoining the club after a successful decade at the Wildstars.
Moshemini Talestars - The Green and Gold of the Talestars hasn't always flown highest or shone brightest but they are capable of an upset - the one other time the Wildstars haven't won the league came when the Talestars surprised everyone with the introduction of 'crashball' to Naizerri football - high pressure, massive physicality and running directly at goal - and won the league by a record 27 points. That philosophy still holds true at the Warthogs and international Didier Derdain is a welcome edition - the former SuperSport striker epitomises the pacy, powerful striker that crashball needs to work.
Kiakuma Chiefs - The Chiefs represent the new style of Naizerri football, utilising a possession-based patient style that frustrates opponents. The smallest team in the National League - with an equally small stadium that provides a tense, intimidating atmosphere in the heart of Kiakuma - have survived take-over attempts, losing players to bigger teams and an earthquake that destroyed part of the stadium in recent years, but 'everyone's second team' as they have become known continue to compete year after year. Kousso Abeliyad may be third choice keeper for Naizerre but he is an unique goalkeeper who can also score goals - 42 in the last 5 seasons is a record some players would kill for.
Kilamba Blues - Yo-yoing between divisions provides for a different outlook on footballing styles than most other teams, and having to rebuild your squad every other season means that the Blue Wave from Kilamba are always a team that can switch it up. They've just come off a 7th placed finish, which is their highest in their history and reached the semi-finals of the National Cup, with Brin Biro providing both assists and goals from right back.
Djofa Invicta - It may be more than 30 years since Djofa Victory as they were then known went an entire season without losing, but the Invicta are still a proud club, if one that hasn't had much to celebrate since then. A powerhouse in the early days of the Naizerri National League, Djofa have fallen on hard times in recent years, repeatedly involved in relegation battles for much of that time. A surprise National Cup final appearance and a 9th placed finish should be considered a success, but the All-Stars Tournament will be a tough experience for a young side led by ageing captain and international legend, Franck Tiote.
For the first time, the National Naizerri Football Federation is allowing foreign nationals to play for Naizerri clubs, and has allowed each club to add three foreign players to their squads, prior to the opening games of the Tournament.
OOC Stuff: Hi. So what I'm looking for here is to add up to three players for each team from foreign nations, and that eventually when people have their own domestic football rp developed we can move into making international tournaments for club teams, and a transfer market etc etc.
