So The Grim Reaper - who for the sake of clarity I will say is one of my closest NS friends and the recipient of many beers should we ever meet - has proposed changing the laws on citizenship - pretty much solely to allow me to hold office/gain citizenship. I do not think this should surprise anyone who followed the last election, where Grim lamented the fact that he was unable to appoint me Culture Minister should he win. For opening the debate, I thank Grim and owe him a debt of gratitude.
In their current form, I do not support the changes. It gives people with less stake in the region (and don't confuse that with no stake, for I do have a stake in the continuance of the current government and its systems) too much say in my opinion. If citizenship is to be conferred upon people without nations, it should be with few or even zero voting rights. I am unsure as to whether it should include the ability to hold Ministerial office, but I would - entirely selfishly I admit - like it to include the ability to hold deputy minister positions.
I would like to address a few things though. Firstly, the circumstances of my Delete-on-Sight order. I had, prior to that, had three nations deleted. St George of England was deleted for serial flaming and trolling, largely in the General sub-forum. -St George was deleted for posting this video. It probably falls under NSFW rules and you are so warned. The moderator's reasoning for my deletion was that I posted porn. I do not believe it is porn, but I will leave others to judge.
My third nation to be deleted was... you know I honestly can't remember. It was probably a repeat of the first offence in some form. The Delete-on-Sight order came after I called military gameplay 'self-fellatio and legalised trolling' following a two week or so period of tension with the moderation team. The context of this comes from the two Liberate Haven proposals, and the drama arising from that. The NS RP Mentor team penned an open letter to the moderation team protesting the situation as it was then - and as far as I know, exists today - in regards to military gameplay and the perceived targeting of RP regions.
The moderation team then entered into talks with the Mentors about what could be done. From multiple sources within the Mentor team I learned that the attitude gameplay moderators such as Sedgistan and Fris were bringing to the discussion gave them - and in turn me - concerns that they weren't entering the discussions in good faith (Fris especially has form for this). I raised this on multiple occasions, earning the ire of both moderators and a few other mentors. From there I obviously committed one offence too many and was declared Delete-On-Sight.
Second, and contrary to Flemingovia's assertion that DoS players don't believe their DoS is justified, my Delete on Sight was most definitely justified. Under the rules and practices of NS and its mod team, I had committed enough to be made delete on sight. I had been warned I was close on numerous occasions. I have no regrets, beyond how it now impedes my ability to contribute here. I do not miss the NS site, especially with its forum with over-bearing moderation and odd rules (for example, one of my offences was trollnaming - literally, it is an offence to call a troll a troll).
Thirdly - and I am aware that others disagree - I do not believe the law requires me to be a citizen to be a deputy minister. Others have already expanded on this elsewhere and opponents of the view have replied. I do not believe a comment made in anger by a Justice outside of a written ruling annoyed by someone's questions changes the way the Constitution is written and in this instance it is clear. Whether that means the Regional Assembly should look at closing what could be considered a loophole is a matter for those with the rights to be involved in the discussion.
Finally, and I would like people to think about this more than anything else contained in this post, I pose to you a question. What is more valuable to TNP, a person who contributes to the community through their actions and roles on the forum, or someone who has a nation in the region and posts nothing on the forum, beyond voting in RA votes and in elections? It is obviously the latters right to do such that, but I would suggest that the former provides something the latter does not, dedication to the region and the community who inhabit. You might very well disagree, and I welcome the commentary and debate - if any - posting this might provide.
