An effective Ambassador Report helps the Diplomatic Corps, the Minister and Deputy Minister, and the Delegate quickly gleam exactly what is happening in a region and how to respond. For the most part, the reports from TNP's ambassadors have been clear, concise, and well-written. But advice can always be given, and hopefully taken. Here are a few things to keep in mind as you write your reports:
Let's start with the simplest: formatting and grammar. We're not going to be grade-school grammarians here: the message is the important thing. When you write your report, read it over and ask "can anyone understand this?". If the answer is "yes", then great! If the answer is "maybe", or "no", then read it through and see what might be improved. In general, simple, plain speaking is better than grandiose words. The Diplomatic Corps doesn't seem to have many problems with plain speaking as a whole - but it's just something to always keep in mind.
Now let's get to content. As an Ambassador, you are an employee of the government of the North Pacific. You represent it abroad - and its views at home. If something is happening in your region that affects the North Pacific, like, for instance, a motion in your region's legislature to condemn the North Pacific for whatever reason, then report on it! That's something the Ministry, as well as the Delegate, would like to know ahead of time. That being said, try to keep your opinions neutral. If NationStates monarchies offend your democratic sensibilities, that's understandable. However, the North Pacific has formed relations with them knowing this. Do not color your reports with your personal feelings - only what is needed to get the job done.
Of course, your reports should contain more than just events that affect the North Pacific directly. Elections are always an important thing to report on. Activity is another - the government would like to know which of its allied regions, or embassied regions, are active and which are not. While we don't expect every Ambassador to be a gameplay/R/D guru, shifts in alignment - defender to raider, imperialist to independent, etc., are important for the Delegate and NPA to know. Above all, though, use your personal judgment - if something seems important, then include it in your report. We'd rather have an extra piece of knowledge than a missing one (to an extent, of course. Whether the delegate of your assigned region prefers Cheerios or Rice Krispies probably isn't that important).
A clear report is essential to the Ministry and government. The North Pacific wouldn't open an embassy or sign a treaty with a region it doesn't care about. Using these guidelines, I hope the Diplomatic Corps can improve their reports beyond the excellent level they are already at!
