For Speaker

Creativity. Order. Excellence.

Fellow members of the Regional Assembly,

It is with humble pride that I have held the office of Speaker for almost eight months, and I thank you all for giving me that privilege. For the benefit of those who are undecided about who they would like to be Speaker this coming term, I offer a brief overview of my accomplishments since the last election in May:
  • This term saw the publication of the RA Weekly Digest, which serves to keep RA members informed about the legislative business of the week. We have published the Digest every Friday for fifteen weeks (with the exception of two issues that were slightly late).
  • The Standing Procedures (maintained by the Speaker's Office) were revised to create separate procedures for Legislative and Non-Legislative votes. These revisions now allow members to maintain control over the bills they propose, and let them go to vote when they're ready, without creating any delay in Non-Legislative procedures such as recall motions.
  • For the benefit of newer members (or those who are unfamiliar with the new legislative procedures) I have created a pinned thread in the RA forum named "How a Bill Becomes A Law" which explains clearly and concisely how to turn an idea into legislation. It illustrates the procedures with a simple bill about making Eluvatar the regional turtle of TNP.
  • The Speaker's Office has done some cleaning up in the RA forum, moving ancient threads out and putting everything in order. Not to worry - all your beloved debates can be found in the RA Proposal and Discussion Archive .
I have a few goals for next term:
  • SillyString has done an outstanding job as my deputy this term. I would like to expand the Speaker's Office to include one or two more deputies, and train them in all the duties of Speaker. A certification of some kind may be earned by deputies who demonstrate competence in all the functions of the Speaker's Office.
  • I would like to continue publication of the Weekly Digest, and perhaps expand the content. I'm still brainstorming, but possible expansions include a profile on a different member each week, and a weekly spotlight on a piece of legislation that never moved to vote (encouraging people to fix it up and propose it again).
  • I would like to start presenting a monthly award to RA members who author or co-author proposals, or substantively add to legislative debates. It will be called the "Legislator of the Month" award, and recipients will be recognized in the Weekly Digest, and presented with a unique image to put in their signature, specific to the month that they received the award.
This campaign thread would not be complete without a heartfelt thank you to SillyString - the best Deputy Speaker this region has ever seen. She shouldered the responsibility of Acting Speaker for a month while I was away from my computer, and I cannot thank her enough for the outstanding job she did during that time, as well as throughout the term. She's the best decision I ever made as speaker, and I'm happy to say that she has agreed to continue serving as deputy if I am elected.

Anyone who knows me well has heard me say that the job of the Speaker is to turn the will of the Regional Assembly into reality. I have done my best these past two terms to faithfully and deliberately execute that responsibility. I ask for your vote to continue in that endeavor.

I like the weekly digest, and your ideas for improving it sound great! You have my wholehearted support.

Since you are by far the most qualified candidate for Speaker, and I am the creator of the term Constibillocode, I will naturally stand opposed to your campaign.

But I *like* the Constibillocode! I think that term is brilliant :P

As I nominated you it should be quite obvious that I fully support this re-election campaign.

You have done well in a position that can be difficult. I support your reelection campaign.
As someone who sometimes ( ) makes the position at least annoying, I wholeheartedly support COE for Speaker. He has done a remarkable job, and if more of our government were like him, then we would have a government that was the envy of nationstates.

I don't know if I can support this COE person for another term. I don't think he praises the hard work of his subordinates enough.
*fishfishfishfishfish* I LOVE compliments!

SillyString, if I praised you anymore I'd have to start a new religion.
