Nuclear Decommissioning Act
Category: Environmental | Industry Affected: All Businesses - Mild
Proposed by: Tinhampton, Co-authored by: Voopmont | Onsite Topic

Reaffirming the need to safely dispose of nuclear waste, in the interests of public and environmental health,

Underscoring the importance of decommissioning old nuclear facilities in ensuring that the nuclear waste contained therein becomes safe to dispose of, and

Believing that a newer, clearer resolution on nuclear decommissioning is necessary, now that Article 2c of GA#610 "Safe Disposal of Nuclear Waste" now has no effect...

The General Assembly hereby:
  • requires member states to decommission all nuclear facilities within their jurisdiction when they are no longer, or can no longer be, reasonably expected to safely and reliably perform their intended functions (hereinafter "Article a decommissioning"),
  • demands that members have plans in place for the Article a decommissioning of all nuclear facilities within their jurisdiction which have not yet been properly decommissioned,
  • encourages members to proceed with Article a decommissioning as rapidly as is sensible, and
  • authorises the Nuclear Energy Safety Commission to support members in performing Article a decommissioning, or decommissioning those nuclear facilities within their jurisdiction that face imminent disaster, should they request such support.
Note: Only votes from TNP WA nations, NPA personnel, and those on NPA deployments will be counted. If you do not meet these requirements, please add (non-WA) or something of that effect to your vote. If you are on an NPA deployment without being formally registered as an NPA member, name your deployed nation in your vote.
