Train Derailment Kills 2 In Størmo

A train carrying approximately 340 passengers from the Råndemme to the Lange Street in Størmo, derailed on it's way, while trying to stop at the Helgen Johann station which stood in between of Råndemme , Ambassade and Lange Street. The derailment occurred after the train came in contact with debris causing one of the trains wheel to leave the track and scrape several columns that separate the north and southbound tracks, Mayor Sven Helensønn detailed in her statement. The incident occured in 8:30 AM during rush hours, according to the records. The incident sparked a significant power loss to all four tracks and held a second northbound train near Parliament Station, Helensønn said. Crews were immediately dispatched to help passengers disembark. Senior officials with Bryse Police and Størmo City Police Department (Størmo Politidepartement) reported on Daglig Avis that two suspects are in custody for allegedly placing an object onto the tracks knowingly, prior to trains entrance to the station. Said suspects' identities have been revealed shortly after, being two teenagers, Erna H. and Samuel E.. Two suspects are now waiting for their trials, which they will be facing with 10 years of prison for publicly sabotaging government property and manslaughter charges.

46 injuries and 2 deaths in total were reported by the Government of Størmo, 44 of the injuries and all deaths belonging to the passengers in the train at the moment, alongside of 2 injuries belonging to the passengers waiting for the train on the station. From what the security footage seen, the train also almost crashed into further, stopped by the sitting benches, which saved at least 40 people present in Helgen Johann station during the incident. Fortunately, the incident occurred near a hospital station, which consumed significantly less time and saved two patients with life threatening injuries. After an autopsy, family members confirmed that the corpses of two deaths belonged to mother Viktoria Helgasdatter (32) and son Edvard Viktoriasøn (8). Two days of mourning was declared in the city, with some people assembling to protest in front of Størmo Provincial Parliament, demanding immediate arresting of the said suspects.

Esse: A Growing Metropolis, What's Next?

Esse is a large city. Its rapidly growing population fuelled by immigration both foreign and domestic gave the city its cosmopolitan identity. Yet, bigger is not always better. Esse is dealing with many challenges other metropolises face frequently such as rising real estate prices, growing homelessness, rising unemployment and high expense of living.

We need to go back to when Esse first started showing signs of flourishing, which is the 1580's. Around that time, Esse was a small city located on the Northern shores with a population of merely 1,300 people. The order of the Queen to build a new palace in the city in 1586 was a major event for the city, which would draw many skilled inhabitants in the next couple of decades. Merchants, scholars, artisants, farmers and labourers showed interest in the city after hearing about the news, some influential merchants moved to the city for its resource rich nature and great potential as a port. Starting as a city of one thousand people, by the end of 17th century the city became the second largest in Brysen with 29,530 people. 18th and 19th centuries would mark a great continuation for Esse's growth as its population started outnumbering the then capital Dunhamn. Due to Dunhamn being prone to natural disasters, most notably tsunamis and earthquakes, Queen Viktoria III ordered to move the capital city to Esse, the largest city of Brysen. Starting from 1700's, the Great Enlightenment of Esse made the city not just the political, but also the artistic capital of the country. Bodhild Livsdatter, Anne Magnhildsdatter, Hildegunn Hildur Ainasdatter, Sylvia Marionsdatter and Oddbjørg Gunnhildsdatter being the lead artists of the enlightenment; poetry, drawing, music, sculpting and architecture would dramatically thrive in the metropolis for the next hundred years.

1900's was perhaps the most eventful year for Esse. While its skyline already started to change starting in 1860's, with its first skyscraper built in 1894, 20th century would be the start of the skyscraper boom of its financial district Nygard. While the city continued blooming until 1911, the Red Uprising organised by Frøydis Ingebjørgsdatter curbed its development for the next 15 years. Communist regime under an Ingebjørgist ideology affected the Essen architecture with the skyline being more occupied by brutalist buildings opposed to the generally Art Deco architecture of Nygard. These buildings, however, did not last for long. After the overthrowing of the Ingebjørgsdatter regime in 1926 many buildings from that era were renovated to assimilate them to Esse's usual style of buildings.

For the rest of the century the skyline continued to grow and change, but it seemed that many of the 'iconic' buildings were leaving their spots to more insignificant and visually unappealing structures. For this, Metropolitan Government of Esse introduced the Bill to Protect Landmarks (Regning for å Beskytte Landemerker r.35 pr.43), changing the construction industry of Nygard forever. Today, the city is the largest in the country offering a thriving entertainment industry, charming historical landmarks and overall a posh and lavish lifestyle. But as many would guess, handling a population of seventeen million is not easy. Poverty and homelessness is on all time high according to NYSDATA, with one in 104 Essens being homeless. Every night, nearly 7,460 people have to sleep on the street, in the subway system or in other public spaces. One in every 70 Essens are food insecure, with 5.5% of the population earning as low as ҝ375 per month (ҝ4,500 per year), which is equal to IBU187.5 monthly and IBU2,250 yearly. Average cost of a 40 square meter apartment can go as high as ҝ3,700 (IBU1,850) in rent, the said example flat also costs ҝ525,000 (IBU262,500) on the higher end. Without rent, a single persons estimated monthly costs are ҝ2,545 (IBU1,212.5) in Esse. The city is one of the most expensive to live in in Gothis.

While the city might attract many outside Esse in; high prices, huge costs of living added to other specific problems such as traffic and crowding draw native Essens out of the city to other cities where living is more affordable. It is unknown when the growth of the metropolis would stop, but its size already overwhelms many.
