[Asheron] A Day of The Past and The Future

In the Islands around what used to be known as Papua New Guinea, a nation known as The New Oceanic Federation lay. It was a nation full of knowledge and wealth, of people and resources. It had developed from a point where it would be raided from islanders, to a point where they could defend themselves. They had Airships, naval trading routes, Medicine, Auto Doctors, Radio and Radar, they even had jets flying through the air. The nation was more isolationist and had decided not to explore the new world that lay around it. They had grown knowing that hostile islanders lived out there and sea monsters in the deep seas. This was all about to change by the chance of a Engineering Student, a Radio, a Rock, and a knowledgeable friend.

Nimue was a regular student at the Advanced School of Exploration and Discovery(ASED for short). She studies mathematics and geography, she excelled at English and was even better at Aerospace Engineering. She was no where near a honor role student, but she was highly respected throughout the school due to her kind personality and analytical mind. Although she was popular, she did not have many friends. She usually confided in her best friend Murphy, he was a brilliant student currently excelling in Geography. He was normally a quiet boy but she knew him well enough that he never would run out of things to say given the chance.

This day was no different than any other. Just another repetitive day in her repetitive society. She was walking to school one day when she stumbled upon a old radio on the ground, picking it up she could clearly see it was damaged and thrown away. She decided to take it to school with her and see if she could get it repaired when she got back home later. Radio's were common but cost quite a bit, the fact that someone had thrown one away was a little shocking to Nimue, and she pondered why they threw it away. She went to school telling Murphy about the radio and if he wanted to help her fix it. Other than that her day at school was completely normal.

Heading home that day she and Murphy decided to work on the radio right away. When they got to Nimue's house they went strait to the garage and got all the internals cleaned. Her original appraisal of the radio told her that it was broken, but he insides were completely unharmed and functional. The only thing that it would need was a new antenna and a new casing. Agreeing with Murphy to meet up again tomorrow to work on the radio and get it operational.

Later that night when Nimue was about to head to bed, the radio made a crackling noise. Going over to it she investigated the noise. It was defiantly coming from the radio, but it was sunset and that meant it was down time where the radio and all channels were turned off. She continued to ponder when she heard the crackling noise again, this time clearer. It sounded like nothing at first, but after hearing the crackling again she was able to make out words. It sounded like a person speaking. She could not determine who or where this person was speaking from and decided to bring it up with Murphy tomorrow to find out what it was. Out of the corner of her eye she saw a bolder in her backyard glow very softly but dismissed it. She went to bed.

After telling Murphy about the crackling and the garbled chatter he seemed to grow confused. In geography he was currently studying the map of 'New Earth' and 'Old Earth' and the differences between them. He knew through current maps of the 'New Earth' that there were no survivors after the events of the flash and so far there had been no contact from anyone outside The New Oceanic Federation's borders. Walking home that night Murphy seemed unusually quite but he would not tell her why, and only said that he wanted to fix that radio as soon as possible.

Arriving back at Nimues house Murphy decided that he would spend the night to work on the radio. She was a little disappointing that he was only staying for the radio and not her, but she shook her head and got that out of her mind and focused on repairing the radio.

When Murphy said that it was officially down hours and he had added a new antenna to the radio he went outside to the rock that stood just outside. It glowed blue under ultra violet waves which meant it was probably rare but it was a family secret and it only seemed to glow on day of the year. Murphy brought the radio and placed it on the rock, while a very confused Nimue watched. After a bit of fiddling and waiting the radio started crackling. The sound was louder than yesterday and she wondered if it had something to do with the rock. Murphy started to grow restless and fiddled with the antenna some more until... words! Words were coming from the radio! They spoke non-sense and she shook her head in disappointment. It was probably still messed up and she turned to go inside. Turning around she saw Murphy looking at the radio. Just sitting and listening. When asked he simply replied "That's not English Nimue." Nimue looked at the radio and listened some more. It seemed like the weird words she was hearing were actually more placed and sounded like someone talking. The voice was definitely male and it sounded like it had authority, she listened some more until she looked over and saw Murphy in tears.

"Were not the only ones." Murphy said silently. "Were not the only ones.". Nimue listened more closely, and suddenly it hit her. It was a male giving orders, the accent was not one of her nation. It was one of somewhere else. Her mind began to whirl as she turned and looked at the rock the radio was standing on. It was glowing, just like last night when the radio was crackling. This meant something. It was a huge discovery. Nimue and Murphy would later go to officials to report the radio, coming to her house they found that the rock was Tungsten and it was somehow attracting the radio waves. She and Murphy would later be given the 'medal of discovery' which is only given to people who find something truely important.

With the knowledge of other people, The New Oceanic Federation started exploring outside its borders. They would soon come across new allies and rivals. Bitter enemies and raiders. But nothing will stop this nation from exploring this new world. They thought they were alone in a sea of savages, but they found others. The New Oceanic Federation Enters the world stage as a recently discovered nation.
