This election is exciting. Pre-election polls show the Nationals with a slight lead over the Coalition. Will Mme. Courseaux’s Nationals win enough seats to govern outright? Or will PM Hauteclocque de Champtoceaux’s Coalition gain the few seats needed to remain in power? #leChoix2019

Preliminary data released by the Royal Elections Commission show a high turnout for this years’ election. Extrapolation of the data will mean a turnout of about 90%.

NB: In Santonian parlance, turnout is the number of voters who had made a choice, because everyone is supposed to vote. #leChoix2019

To clarify @KyleMdeFlesselles’ statement, Cenise-6 is the first one declared to be won outright at the first round. One seat (Saine-et-Loine-18) had issued its official result within the past hour, but that seat was not won on the first round.#leChoix2019

@nm_delerestraint It’s too early to speculate. This is just one seat with a highly popular star candidate. What I’ll be watching out for are the seats in the central plains. If Gaucelin’s agrarian revolt against the National purge happens, we’d see Nationals lose central Saintonge. #leChoix2019

The Nationals retain control of Chalaronne-2 despite deselecting its incumbent deputy, former National Party leader Marc Gaucelin, after a bitter district party nomination battle. Gaucelin’s renomination bid failed due to his abstention in the Caruhel II & no-confidence votes. #leChoix2019

To be fair, Saintonge has a high hurdle for Independent candidates – a prospective Independent candidate must have the support of 10% of the electorate in the district. You can’t get the almost 20K signatures needed within the short timetable set by the IRE. #leChoix2019

Maybe. Chalaronne-2 swung against the Nationals by 15.4%. Much of that is probably Gaucelin’s personal vote. But I’d like to see the vote in the neighbouring districts to see if the “agrarian revolt” Gaucelin was threatening really did occur. #leChoix2019

@BGKermadec @nm_delerestraint Chalaronne-3 has now released its result. Chalaronne-3 is retained by the Nationals with 64% of the vote. In addition, Chalaronne-3 is an open seat, its incumbent retired, so personal votes isn’t much of a factor here. #leChoix2019

Thanks for the info @KyleMdeFlesselles. Chalaronne-3’s swing is 5.5% towards the Nationals. So, a move by the rural agrarian central departments away from the Nationals is probably unfounded. Much of the swing against the Nationals in Chalaronne-2 is probably Gaucelin’s personal vote. #leChoix2019

The Côle-9 race is amusing. Letelier-Congard’s low vote tally is because the Radical voters were urged to “lend” their votes to Poutou in an attempt to force a runoff. The Radical Mayor of Courbevoie, Jean-Pierre Congard (husband of the Radical candidate), spearheaded that campaign.

In what was arguably one of the weirdest races this election, the sibling rivalry in Basses-Alpes-1 is settled as the incumbent Justin-Thibault Beauvisage (National) wins over his younger brother Jean-Thaddée Beauvisage (Liberal) and the unrelated Anne-Caroline Beauvisage (Radical). #leChoix2019
