TSP Elections Season News

We're right in the middle of the summer elections in the South Pacific, having just elected our new cabinet. The incoming cabinet, who will share their roles with the incumbent cabinet during a one-week transition period, before going it alone, consists of first-time Prime Minister, Farengeto, first-time Minister of Regional Affairs, Nakari, first-time Minister of Foreign Affairs, Resentine and the returning Minister of Military Affairs, Somyrion. All of the races were contested by at least one other candidate and the campaigns were some of the strongest seen for a while, which bodes well for future activity.

Now the cabinet election is over the focus will shift to the gameside for the Local Council elections, followed by the Delegate election at the start of July. Expect more updates in this thread as events unfold!

TSP Elections Season News Update

Having recently elected and transitioned to our new cabinet, the South Pacific is now in the process of three separate elections: for the Local Council (a gameside-only position), a replacement Chair of Assembly since the former Chair, Nakari, is now Minister of Regional Affairs, and the summer delegate election.

The Local Council election has already been going for some time, with two preliminary polls required to narrow down the field of candidates to 12 or fewer first, owing to the large number of candidates who chose to run for the three seats on the Council. The first round of voting proper has all but concluded with The Solar System Scope looking most likely to claim the first Local Council seat. Voting for all three seats should have concluded by 8th July.

The Chair of the Assembly election was a closely fought race between four candidates: Rebeltopia, Amerion, Roavin and the Imperial Frost Federation. The only TSP election to use approval voting - with debate ongoing as to whether this or any of our voting systems is well-understood by the electorate - the Chair election has produced extremely close results and is looking likely to run-on to a tie-breaking final poll between Rebeltopia and Roavin.

The delegate election has only begun with nominations and candidacy declarations opening this morning, but it has already thrown a few surprises, with a number of fresh faces throwing their hats into the ring and incumbent delegate, Seraph, who many expected to try for a second term, choosing instead to step down at the end of this one.

With quite so much political activity, it is an exciting time to be a part of the South Pacific.

Thanks for the update! Close elections always keep things interesting :)

TSP Elections Season News Update

The Chair of the Assembly elections ended in a dramatic tie which sparked a great deal of debate about how best to resolve it. As it was, however, no tiebreaker was required as Rebeltopia conceded to Roavin so that he might accept his nomination in the Delegate election. This means that Roavin, who has wanted to be Chair of the Assembly since he started in the region, has finally run for the position and been elected to it for the first time in over two years.

The Local Council elections, which started mid-June, have finally concluded with the new Local Council consisting of veteran LC and CRS member Pencil Sharpeners 2 and newcomer Si-topia, with a former LC from over two years ago, The Solar System Scope, retaking his seat. They have already begun the process of reforming our RMB moderation standards, which have been the subject of heated debate for the last few months.

Voting has concluded in the first round of the Delegate election. The results are yet to be announced, but it looks clear that former delegate and South Pacifican legend Tsunamy will be one of the two names in the second round gameside poll, with the other position likely to be taken by one of four possible candidates: familiar faces, Tim Stark and Rebeltopia, and relative newcomers Islands of Unity and Beepee. Whatever the outcome it has been a very close and fascinating first round and the second round, voted on by native WA members, is likely to follow suit.

Exceedingly quick update - so quick there's no time for a logo!

The two candidates going through to the second round of the Delegate election have been announced and are Tsunamy and Tim Stark. Round two of voting has begun via gameside poll and will close in seven days.
