Eras Society of Honorable Nations

To member states of the ESHN

We are glad to be accepted for observer status in the ESHN. Ninhundland has had many dark and violent parts of history but by joining more unions, we are able to show Eras that we have changed. For the past few decades we have been doing really well after fascist rule fell in 1981. However after former Prime Minister Dominik Huhrmann came in power 2016, our relations with many countries went negative. Under his government Ninhundland was responsible for contributing to war mongering as well as statements that regarded Shaddaists as less human. Even after his resignation due to domestic and international pressure, Ninhundland is still seen in a negative light. His resignation mainly due to support of terroist groups to work along with the Ninhundish military was back in June 2017, yet we still are called a pariah. Maybe it’s time for us to put more effort into changing and moving on. We think this is possible and it starts with us but it is helpful with cooperation as well.

Best Regardes,

Sebastian Sonnefeld
Director of Ninhundish Foriegn Affairs

The Mondic government welcomes Ninhundland into the ESHN, we hope that your government can redeem itself; however, due to the history of Ninhundland, we will be keeping a better eye on how the Ninhundish government manages itself.
We hope that Ninhundland can grow and move past its dark and stories past.

The Hightonian delegation stepped forward to make a proposal, somewhat in direct response to the admittance of Ninhündland.

“The Crowned Republic believes an amendment must be made to the founding document of this society. Article 1, Clause IV should be amended such that a state wishing to become an observer of the society would require a majority vote amongst member states.”

Code:
IV. Any nation may apply for observer status. This will allow nations to be a part of society
conversation without having the ability to be a part of the formal opinions of the society. A nation wishing
to become an observer would require a simple majority vote amongst member states to achieve observer
status.

The primary representative of the Vallish delegation briefly stepped forward. "Valland fully supports this amendment." he said, before sitting back down.

Sutherland also proposes and amendment to the ESHN constitution.

The Sutherland Amendment:
Membership
I. Any national leader seeking to enter their nation into this society must be approved by a majority of existing members.

II. The existing members are to take into account the military history, tenure of the nation's leader, and overall behavior of the nation in regard to other nations into account.

III. Once this society contains four fully confirmed members, all other candidates following the fourth admission must first be registered as an observer of the society for one week. This waiting period serves to give existing members time to research the candidate nation and also ensures that the candidate is committed to the cause of the society.

IV. Any nation may apply for observer status. This will allow nations to be a part of society conversation without having the ability to be a part of the formal opinions of the society. Two member nations can move for a vote for the purpose of removing observer status from a nation if the nation's actions or stances are considered irreconcilable with the purpose of this body. The vote requires a simple majority in favor of removing the observer status in order for them to be rejected.

V. Any national leader that is rejected membership must be given a reason to their rejection which must show concern for some aspect of the leader's governance and an existing conflict with the core values of the Society of Honorable Nations.

Both the amendment proposed by Highton and Sutherland are open for informal discussion as of now. A vote on each will be scheduled once discussion has concluded.

"Having now read and evaluated both amendments," the Vallish delegate concluded, "Valland supports the Sutherlander amendment. We believe it delivers what the Hightonian amendment delivers, along with added efficiency contained within the first sentence of the amendment."

Letter from the Office of the President of Cojedes

To the Members of the Eras Society of Honorable Nations,
Greetings from the Republic of Cojedes,

On behalf of the Republic of Cojedes, we would like to apply for observer status in the Society. It is the desire of the Cojedan people and government to do so and see it as valuable to our nation. It is our desire to be counted among the members of the Society and is our sincere hope that what Cojedes has added to the world, albeit not to all members, will be considered.

With all the best and the highest respect,
Irene Molina, President of the Republic of Cojedes

"Goyanes finds the Sutherland amendment the most expedient for the same reasons as the Vallish delegation. Thank you."

Informal discussion has concluded and now we shall vote on both amendments.

The Highton Amendment:
IV. Any nation may apply for observer status. This will allow nations to be a part of society
conversation without having the ability to be a part of the formal opinions of the society. A nation wishing
to become an observer would require a simple majority vote amongst member states to achieve observer
status.

The Sutherland Amendment:

The Highton Amendment: Aye / Nay / Abstain

The Sutherland Amendment: Aye / Nay / Abstain

Voting will last 1 week.

The Divine Dominion of Sundred would like to petition for admittance to the Eras Society of Honorable Nations as an Observer Nation.

The Sutherland Amendment passes with 5 ayes and 0 nays.

The Highton Amendment fails with 3 Nays, 1 Abstain, and 1 Aye.

The Sutherland Amendment is now enacted.

It is in the best interest of the Ninhundish Government to strengthen ties with fellow member states of the ESHN. As a nation that has had issues which has only strained relations causing instability, it is time we must show the world that we are ready to act on the world stage in a more peaceful and diplomatic way. We think that the Eras Society of Honourable Nations is a good organization where any nation can join as an observer to discuss issues and build diplomatic ties. It is our hope as an obverser member to show the good side of Ninhundland, the support for positive change and most of all the requests and wellbeing of the Ninhundish citizens. As a Government it is our job to support our citizens by fixing strained relations and learning from our past which betters both us and our citizens whom may be affected by our actions. We are glad to be part of the ESHN.

Societal Observation 002: On the Issue of Sutherland Independence and Self Determinism Versus McMasterdonia

The Question at Hand: Is the Sutherland Federation's act of separation valid and just as opposed to its union to the Kingdom of McMasterdonia? How can peace be achieved between the two entities and what role does the international community play in the assurance of that peace and resolution of tension and conflict?

Inquisitive Actions of the Society: None as of yet
The Sutherland Federation will not be writing an opinion for this observation given its involvement in the proceedings of these questions.

Clarissa Sabot, the Mondic embassador to the Eras Society of Honorable Nations, stood to address the question at hand. "The Mondic government supports the Sutherland Federation's right to self-determination as an independent nation, however, we would like to avoid war if at all possible. Therefore, it is of the opinion of the Mondic government that the Kingdom of McMasterdonia and the Sutherland Federation come to the table and agree to a peace settlement that will satisfy both sides. Despite this, Mondari is still a very close ally with the Kingdom of McMasterdonia, due to this, if the Sutherland Federation causes tensions to boil over into war due to either malice or inaction, the Mondic government will be forced into action to defend its Kianese ally. On the other hand, if the Kingdom of McMasterdonia declares war and invades the Sutherland Federation, the Mondic government will be forced into action as well. Due to these reasons, the only possible road ahead in the Mondic government's eyes is one of a mutual agreement of peace that can de-escalate tensions and possibly mend the wounds between the two nations. Thank you." Clarissa sat back in her chair and awaited the responses of the other representatives present.

Robert stood from his chair bracing himself on his cane. "I am quite concerned by this observation. I see every country in this society as already recognizing and supporting Sutherland by merely being in this organization. Every country has a bias in favor of Sutherland with maybe the exception of Midir, who has firmly stuck themselves between the two grinding wheels."

The old veteran took a second to drink some much needed water with a doddering hand.

"I am concerned for the credibility of this society, are we no longer neutral in this, much like me.. Doddering Conflict? Is this society becoming an inconsequential weapon but a weapon nonetheless?"

Robert sat back down.

Clarissa Sabot rose from her chair to address her fellow representatives present at the table. “I thank you for that observation, Robert. While Mondari is only an observer in the ESHN, its membership still signals a modicum of support for Sutherland, even if only slight, i hope we can agree on that. On that note, I will have to echo what my fellow representative has brought up, the seeming turn of this organization from a neutral party to one that seems to be used as a political tool to force the Sutherland government’s agenda. I will make it clear that while Mondari appreciates this society and the members therein, if it becomes a tool to force one nation’s political stances, we will not stay a member of this, as we will not be pushed around by an organization that is supposed to have no power over external nations. Now, while the direct opinion of the society may not seem to have any power in itself, with members that hold such political influence on the world stage, such as Goyanes and to a smaller extent, Norsia, if said members put their political pressure behind said opinions, they can influence actions of other nations even outside the society. However, I hope it does not come to this, but if it does then we have made our plan of action known. Thank you.”

Chancellor Burding rose to address the concerns.
"My fellow society members, I find it important to remind all present that this is not about who is right and who is wrong. This is about solving a conflict that keeps people from dying or unnecessary violence from breaking out. Sutherland has asked for support so that a peaceful solution may be found. We wish to seek avenues that are of the greatest benefit to all involved. As stated, Sutherland will not be posting an opinion regarding this Societal Observation. Rather it is our hope that a solution may be found that stops any more violence and unnecessary aggression from occurring regardless of what side a nation may be on. This society is about finding solutions, not widening divisions."
