Do not Dream of the Future

a few hours later after the first letter in the noon another letter would be sent out, this time towards Andrenne

TO:Arno Koronsson, Andrennian Minister of Defense

SUBJECT: Assistance in Modernizing Norsian Armor

Dear Koronsson, I write to you in the hopes that the friends of our friends could help Norsia rebuild its defense force. Namely, Norsia has never been great in the prospects of armored vehicles quite frankly we are wretched at engineering vehicles and our only successful vehicle has been the Egide-6/49. A design we are now basing our newest attempts to bring our armor into the future upon.

I would like to ask you and Andrenne as a whole if you would be willing to help Norsia be able to defend itself and our mutual allies again and help us bring our armored vehicles to modern standard? I await your reply or lack thereof.

Sincerly,

Queen Alycia Severyn of Norsia

April 4th 2018
A New Norsia

Crowds gathered in ruined city squares and parks, trucks, APC's IFVs armored cars even tanks fitted with improvised loudspeakers patrolled up and down the streets of every city and town lacking actual infrastructure, what few Emergency alert speakers that remained in the cities that were still operational cued up before beginning their broadcast. Norsian radio and TV stations did what they could to spread their programs as far as they could, even using foreign satellites where possible.

the flag of Norsia flew free on every flagpole in sight and banners draped all along the Royal palace in Irras and city capital buildings, and banners hung off of some lamposts.
Today was the day that Norsia would truly be reborn and Patriotism could be felt in the air as all factions huddled around for the news, once enemies now comrades and families again.

the poll counting lasted for most of the day, the results from the west and east were pretty clear, the Central region of course would be the conflicting point, but soon the poll counts ended and the winners announced. a heavy mix of cheering, booing and other estatic and aggaravated noise came from crowds Statewide, many celebrated many showed their disapproval but one thing was for certain. Norsia after 500 years of dictator and tyrant one after another, wars and endless unrest. Norsia was finally free. its chains broken its people freed and they had their voice.

Norsia becomes a Semi-Constitutional Monarchy as Alycia is legitimized
The Constitution signed before the wars end is signed by the new ministry cabinet and is passed fully into National Law
The Conservative March takes dominant seating arrangement in the House with the Syndicalists following somewhat distantly in numbers
Abel Caillat (Unionist) becomes Prime Minister
Xavier Colart(Royalist/Unionist) Remains as minister of defense.
as part of the FairDeal compromise, Alycia appoints Gabriel Duboz(Syndicalist) as Minister of Internal Affairs
Julianne Solenn (Conservative) becomes Minister of Finance

All Hail the Commonwealth of Norsia!

To: Alycia Rochette, Queen of Norsia
Subject: Re: Assistance in Modernizing Norsian Armor

Your Majesty, Queen Alycia, thank you for writing directly to me. This will allow proceedings to occur much quicker and cleaner. Andrenne would be more than happy to assist Norsia in this project. As it is most likely already known since you sent the letter to us Andrenne has quite the past with armor. Since developing our first tanks in 1917 we've had many successes, but also many failures- However, we have learned from those mistakes. We're hoping to help Norsia do the same.

Andrenne will help Norsia, not just for itself but for the mutual benefit of it's neighbors as well. A well equipped armored force can be helpful to your allies as much as it can be helpful to yourself. We're glad you came to us to help Norsia. After a quick pass by the parliament and an approval from the Prime Minister, flights will be coordinated as soon as possible.

Yours Truly,

Arno Koronsson

The lights of Beaconsfield in the evening were inspiring, really. They spoke to a city that was growing after the trauma of civil war faded. It spoke to, well, a city with a nightlife.

It was not something that Tobias payed much mind though. He remained in his office in Absalon's Palace, the sound of cars and pedestrians merely white noise as he sat back in his chair, his television switched to the RÚV coverage of the Norsian elections. He twirled a pen in his left hand as his eyes were transfixed on the screen, the nerves in his stomach too much at times. He found himself scowling at the pundits who poured over every bit of data to micro-analyze every prescient, clearly filling airtime as they waited for returns.

Prydania's oncoming election weighed on his mind as he watched the Norsian proceedings, but that was different, wasn't it? The Syndicalist Party of Prydania was gone. Outlawed. Beaten into the dirt. What wasn't killed by guns and bombs was left to wither under the light of public opinion as a populace shocked by tyranny and war came to grips with what the Syndicalists had done. However Prydania voted in a few months? Everything that the Royalist cause had fought for remained secured.

Not so in Norsia. No, not so. And far from certain.
"Alycia..." Tobias found himself thinking. Not by design, it just happened. He smiled even as the knot in his stomach rotated and tightened.
He couldn't help but be drawn to her confidence and optimism. He had tried to cling to those for most of his life, but she seemed so naturally at peace with both. And yet...had they betrayed her? Tobias couldn't fathom putting the Prydanian monarchy up to a national vote. Too many people died to insure he was King. Too many people died so he could end up crowned. He wasn't going to dishonour their sacrifices by being careless with the crown his supporters had won for him.

He confessed. He didn't understand why Alycia would do just that. He'd wanted to say something. Place a call, send a message. Arrive in person even. He'd held the phone in his hand too many times. He never did any of those things because Alycia made this choice herself. It was not his place to tell her why he felt what she was doing was careless. Wrong. All he had done was wished her luck the night before, and he did all he could now. Watch as pundits spewed near-irrelevant nonsense over maps and poll numbers as they waited for returns to come in.

His eyes drifted to the phone occasionally. For different reasons. The General Staff. The Royal Prydanian Army still controlled the town of Renou in northern Central Nors, as well as the surrounding area. What if the Sydnicalists won? If Alycia were deposed by the mob? He'd do anything to protect her. He'd need to convene with his General Staff. Get word to General Sleswick in Renou. Advance deeper to force the Syndicalists' hands if he had to.
It was the only way to guarantee order if Syndicalist victory led to violence. Which it would. Syndicalism always led to violence, did it not?

He shook his head. He wasn't a warmonger, sighing as he forced himself to relax, pulling a folder marked "Plan A" on his desk over the one marked "Plan D." Folders of potential outcomes in Norsia and how the Prydanian government was to react. Prepared by his Cabinet. A was a best-case scenario. D? Well D was the one where he called the General Staff. It was silly, how pulling one folder over to obscure another felt proactive. When it ultimately meant nothing.

Suddenly returns! Votes pouring in. Only one or two percentage points in places, but it was something tangible! Tobias leaned forward, elbows on his desk as he watched the tv like a hawk. Slowly but surely substantial returns poured in, his grip on the pen tightening, until he heard the lead pundit make a call.

"We can assume now, based on the returns counted, that there will not be enough 'No' votes to deny Alycia Rochette the Crown of Norsia. The Lilly Queen has been legitimized, by the will of her people."

Tobias sat back in his chair, as relief and joy washed over him. He smiled, elated that she would be safe. And yet a growing unease in his stomach began to creep up on him. The fact that this made everything harder...but he set that aside. It was pointless to dwell on that. He picked up on the phone, dialing.

"Your Grace?" he said upon his call being answered.

"I can't even begin..." he laughed softly with a gasp of relief before composing himself.

"Congratulations Alycia" he said with a soft smile.

Sonny Kofoed toasted to the election results by his lonesome in his quarters as news came forward. He'd been sidelined, mostly by his own government. You don't negotiate with someone who might be deposed. Now though? Now things in Norsia were a bit more stable. And stability bred cooperation.

His phone rang....

"Sleswick" he muttered. The man was a bore at the best of times. Sonny wouldn't hesitate to put money on the notion that the Duke of Sleswick had never had a drink in his life.

"General" he replied happily enough....

"Yes, yes, good news all around" he continued, trying to put this conversation to rest as fast as he could, before Sleswick's droning sobered him up by sheer force of will.

"Yes, everything holds. Status quo retained. Goodnight General" he said, straining the last part of General as he made it clear he was hanging up.

He poured himself a fresh glass of Brennivin, taking a sip and relaxing once more before his phone rang again.
"Does he need me to say it in triplicate?" he grunted, his annoyance with the General growing. Only to evaporate when he saw the ID on his screen. It was the Prime Minister.

"Mr. Prime Minister" he said, doing his best to sound low key.

"Mr. Kofoed, I trust you're enjoying Irras?"

"Yes sir, I am. Though I'm eager to get back to work..."

"Good. You'll continue discussions on the Railway project as discussed?"

"Of course. Her Grace seems amicable. The finer details shouldn't be an issue really. It's the naval issue where things might get interesting. The Yukkirans are making a play for a base. Could complicate the situation."

"The Naval issue will be dealt with by His Majesty" the Prime Minister answered. "You're to ask Queen Alycia if His Majesty may visit Irras now that the Norsian elections are settled."

Kofoed winced. He'd had too much Brennivin for this.
"We're going down that route?" he asked.

"Yes, Sonny. We are. His Majesty has a certain...chemistry with the Queen. He'll have a better chance at making our case."

"And the issue of the pilot?"

"All yours, as always Sonny."

"Very well Mr. Prime Minister. Enjoy the evening."

"You as well."

Sonny felt an undeniable urge to toss himself onto the bed now. Norsia's future was secured, but that future brought its set of issues that cried out to be addressed.

Minutes before landing in Rodier, January 18th, 2018, 7:35PM

"Roger Bluesky 1 Actual, and thanks for the warm welcome. This is Mama Bird 0-1, over and out."

The pilots allowed the synchronized fly-by-wire system to guide their landings. And one by one, the military cargo jets floated into a line and began their descent to the runway of Rodier Airport, following the directions that were given.

Major Rebeca Williams had already headed down into the belly of the TCP command plane, where a lucky squad of 8 of her own Peace Helpers got to ride with the Major herself. They were in various states of rest, relaxation, and play, which Rebeca didn't mind - for it was a pretty long flight... But as soon as they felt the plane start to descend, the unarmed troopers dropped what they were doing and got themselves and the trucks ready for deployment. Two of them would be driving, Major Williams and three others would take the passenger seats, and the final three would sit in the back with the cargo.

Upon landing, the planes slowly crawled into their provided hangers. It was quite a change of provisions compared to their stay in Hadden, Prydania, where they simply stood out on the open airfield. With each of the craft being securely parked, the rear bay doors slowly dropped down and the trucks were unstrapped and their engines rumbled to life. Lights flipped on to shine the way in the winter evening as the aid soldiers climbed in. And with the cargo checked and secured, they rolled out onto Norsian soil for the first time. It was still lightly snowing in this northern land.

The drivers spoke to each other as they parked, making various comments about their new surroundings and personal experiences. They didn't know where they needed to be yet, but they wanted to be ready to head out in one accord when they do.

The Major herself was searching for her Norsian counterpart somewhere on this airport. She expected he would being doing the same as well, and so Rebeca got out and walked up to one of the welcoming parties as soon as her truck came to its place in the parking line.

She saluted one of the local soldiers as she spoke respectfully in Mercanti. "I am Major Rebeca Williams, Thenacan Special Forces, Peace Helper Company. I was told to expect a Major Baschet here?"

Alycia found herself sitting on the edge of her throne for the entirety of the returns acutely aware of every hour, every minute, every painful second news hasn't come if her gamble had failed or it succeeded.

A cart with a phone, food and drinks was off to her side, cold and untouched. Colart next to her watching nervously with his one eye. Muttering silently to himself.. "Come on... come on.. Recognize the woman who rallied and saved your sorry hides.."

What felt like another hour had passed and finally the returns had started to come in and soon the lead pundit made the call.

"We can assume now, based on the returns counted, that there will not be enough 'No' votes to deny Alycia Severyn the Crown of Norsia. The Lilly Queen has been legitimized, by the will of her people." As Alycia fell back into her throne relieved her hands brushing her hair back in almost disbelief, The halls and rooms throughout the palaces burst into uproarious cheering of her guards.

The phone rang and almost without even thinking Alycia picked it up "Queen Alycia speaking.." she paused as she heard Toby on the other end and smiled and even started to laugh a bit "Toby," she said with the tone of absolute disbelief and full of energy. "If you're going to congratulate why do it over a hotline? Why don't you come visit the New Commonwealth?" she smiled wide "Yes, I love that idea, come visit! I have no doubt you want to talk."

The soldier turned around from checking the supplies in the jeep and smiled at the Major and saluted her back momentarily "Good to meet you Ma'am, Private Serre. Major Baschet may be a bit delayed for a few minutes, you can wait here in front of the hangars and I can keep talking, but I need to get back to the supply count."

The private kept an ear for the major, but he still went back to his duties, no reason to delay the supply. Several minutes go by, then almost half an hour goes by before a ragged and beaten Norsian tank rolls to a stop in front of the logistics group filled with dents and scratches big and small the barrel itself is cracked halfway down the barrel. If the cannon were to fire it would explode undoubtedly.

Baschet rose out of the commanders Copula. Baschet looked like a man weathered by his job and by time itself his military cut that was somewhat visible under his bandages and his mustache were grayed and had lost its luster. Baschets skin wrinkling by any estimate he would be in his mid fifties. But despite his passage through time, he was fit and his blue eyes still look lively, even as they give their usual stern glare.
Major Baschet adjusted his badged beret as he climbed off the tank and walked over to Rebeca; giving her a salute. He couldn't be shorter than six feet three inches. "Forgive my tardiness Major, even the tanks are struggling with the roads right now. Major Baschet, and welcome to the front lines of the relief effort."

Rains once more fall over Lusovo and the Commonwealth House of Commons as the House finalizes its motions after long grueling hours they were ready for the announcements of their first series of resolutions and edicts. Alycia watching over the TV with Colart as had become kind of a tradition. As she watched her nations new government test itself out.

"This last motion, I would like to one last time push the formalization of workers unions to protect the worker from the relapse of poor working conditions and beleaguered rights." Detlev sat down.
"I second this motion!" a Unionist representative raised her hand. and Abel spoke with a nod "This last motion is recognized and put to vote with the last, and we will now begin. cast your votes. you have one hour, this session is in recess." Abel brought down the gavel three times and the house cleared. after an hour and twenty minutes they came back. and turned in their votes another twenty and they were all counted. the system was imperfect, and undoubtedly could be improved Alycia thought, but how?

Abel spoke again. "the votes are counted and the following resolutions are as follows."

"The Motion to attempt joining the Pan Gotic Union, Unanimous, Passed
The Motion to propose diplomatic missions to Cogoria and to invite Cogoria to send aid, and propose a joint air development agreement. 102 Yay 67 Nay. Passed
Resolution No.1 to further safeguard religious freedom and belief by recognizing faith within the government system, hereby turning the State from Atheist to Secular. 130 yay 37 Nay. Passed
Resolution No.2 to formally recognize worker and trade unions and properly empower them to represent members within the workplace, for better and fairer working conditions. 90 Yay 79 Nay. Passed
Resolution No.3 Commit effort to revive the lost city of Solenn. 32 Yay, 137 Nay Failed"

"these resolutions and motions are now passed, or rejected into or from law and effort. this concludes todays session, good evening."

The House shuffled out of the court slowly but surely and as they did so the boring and bland TV channel fades back to a news logo screen.

"Gods that was painful to watch.. gonna need to fix that I think." Alycia said through her hands as she rubbed her face.
"Could be worse.. they could have rioted.." Alycia audibly shudders as she gets up and leaves the room. "Well, its true.." Colart mused and chuckled to himself.

Message:

TO: Sabine Vidal; Minister of Foreign Affairs, Norsian Commonwealth
SUBJECT: Renewed Offer

Ms. Vidal:

Firstly, on behalf of the Syrixian Empire, I would like to congratulate the Norsian Commonwealth on its first free election. At last, the Norsian people, now finally with a voice, have chosen their own leaders, and have simultaneously affirmed Her Majesty, Queen Alycia's reign as monarch- both of these are truly historical and monumentous occasions for the Norsian people and nation.

In your reply to our earlier message, you noted, "We are in a similar state to Arrandal but I believe Arrandal needs the aid more than Norsia does. If you are willing to walk into Norsia then you are more than willing to have walked into Arrandal long ago." On the same day that our earlier message was sent, we also sent a message to Arrandal offering aid, as well as to Prydania. I am delighted to inform you that not only has Arrandal receiving aid packages since then, but Prydania has as well.

Due to this, and also in the spirit of a future enduring friendship with the Norsian Commonwealth, we wish to renew our offer of aid, both humanitarian and concerning supplies; and we eagerly await your response.

Best Regards,
Watana Patimapragorn
Ambassador of the Syrixian Empire to the Norsian Commonwealth

TO: Watana Patimapragorn
SUBJECT: Re, renewed offer

Mr. Patimapragorn, I am happy to inform you that with my Koinigin's main grievance dealt with and then some. Norsia is now with added stability of all of the factions working together in a democratic coalition of parties, can accept your aid, and I have been given permission to render the following. We can and will happily accept Syrixian aid.

HOWEVER,

We know Syrixia's personal relations and the relations of its alliance with Cogoria are pretty frigid. with the Commonwealths intent to invite Cogorian aid we need assurances that these two powers will not start conflict or grievance within our neutral borders. all aid groups within Norsia are expected to work together should their paths cross.

with that request of assurance given. If you have any requests for information, or otherwise please let me know at your earliest convenience.

Sincerly,
Sabine Vidal.
Minister of Foreign Affairs of the Commonwealth of Norsia

My Lord... Part III

Sidenote: I forgot the title in the last post... will edit later.

After several heats were fired, involving several different weapons at range, Arima drove a hard bargain. Long-term support from Norsia in return for ensured prosperity for both the Principality and the fledgling constitutional monarchy. Not to say that Norsia most definitely didn't have other avenues it could pursue; Alycia made it quite apparent that Yukkira was by far not its biggest benefactor. But as Veronica came around to drag her Guardian away to attend to other affairs of the state, a deal had been struck.

A few changes were to be amended however. The contract called for weapons, construction materials, a corvette, in addition to nuclear deterrence and the manpower to instruct the Norsian military on how to shipbuild, sail the corvette, and how to operate the weapons given.

Alycia, having just got off the phone with the Mouxordians, raises the Prince. Instead however, the secretary on the other end gives her over to...

"Veronica."

"Yes? I was looking for your brother Princess Veronica?" Says Alycia, fairly confused.

"He's occupied... what's up?"

"Are you open to amending the deal a little?"

"My deal? The one my brother proposed to you?"

"Your deal?"

"Yes... mine. Who else do you think told him to stop by your office?"

Alycia continued to become more befuddled, "Your mother? Maybe?"

Veronica laughs, "You're not the first to assume that."

"Well... I was wondering if you'd be willing to work with the Mouxordians on the corvette and-"

"Done."

Alycia pauses. What was this conversation?

"... Need anything else Your Grace?"

"Are you mocking me?" Alycia replies, a bit frustrated.

"No... you never told me what to call you, Your Grace."

Alycia was taken aback... and chuckles, then laughs. Yukkirians. Such a strange people indeed.

"I'm sorry Queen Alycia. Did I say something funny?"

"No," Alycia says shaking her head, "and it's just Alycia, Veronica."

"Ah. Much simplier," muses Veronica, "That's fine Alycia. We look forward to cooperating with the Mouxordians. Just send me the details okay?"

There's a quick pause.

"Apologies Alycia, but I need to go," in the background, "Arima you idiot! How can you fail to jump over a hurdle?! I told you to show the new recruits what to do! Not what to NOT do."

Alycia laughs again, saying, "It'll be my pleasure to work with you Veronica."

Yukkirians. Mercurial. Unexpected. Weirdly uptight but genuine... weird indeed, is Lord Princess Kirin's family. What a wonderful prospect indeed.

Almost 700 years. That amount of time was staggering. It didn't occur to Tobias reading the history books. There the lives of generations pass as quickly as reading a paragraph. An entire war fought or the reign of a king over just like that. In that context? The reign of Robert I of Prydania didn't seem so long ago. It was only when Tobias truly thought about it that the gulf of time between his ancestor who waged war on Norsia and himself seemed apparent. Tobias was about to be the first King of Prydania to set foot on Norsian soil since poor King Robert was driven back nearly 700 years ago.
Recent events had drawn Prydania and Norsia close, and old animosities had been set aside. And yet 700 years...it was a long time. Notable by its length alone. Maybe it would raise long-dead grudges from their graves. Who knew? It's not as if Tobias was entering Norsia with an army. That was halfway across the country in Renou.

The road from Haland to Lusovo was mostly peaceful. Armoured escort kept the King safe, but the truth was that the days of Syndicalists hiding behind the hills were a thing of the past. It was what hid behind the mountains that worried the King. Korova. And all that it had with it, including a Yeran fleet. He put it out of his mind. Now was not the time for that.

Robert I's primary mistake was invading a country he new nothing about. He did not understand the Norsians, and you cannot effectively fight what one does not understand. Despite Prydanian Knights and Raiders having free reign at first? A unified Norsia under Queen Anita had driven them back across the border, with Robert's Knights of the Holy Flame needing to make a valiant last stand in the face of certain defeat to give their king time to escape.

Tobias woke as his motorcade had begun to approach Lusovo. He was nervous. Excited to see Alycia above all, but somewhat nervous as Robert's story rattled in his mind. Robert did not understand Norsia. Of course he was not here with an army, but that wasn't here nor there in a strange sort of way. One can come in peace, and still make the mistake of not understanding the place they're going to.

He straightened his uniform before the door was opened, the cool air of the Norsian capital hitting him in the face, his own guards accompanying him to the entrance of the palace, preparing to be escorted to see the newly legitimized Queen of the Norsian Commonwealth.

Alycia sat in her throne in her dress slacks and her frilly blouse, for once wearing her crown. she had an old and weathered book opened in her lap, the guards had vacated the throne hall and only her and Colart remaining. Colart had abandoned his BDU and equipment for a well tailored and well pressed gray suit and red tie. Alycia had taken extra precaution to make Tobias feel at home in her hall as he had did her in his.
She had half of the royal banners taken down and replaced with Tobias own Coat of Arms-- something that had never been done in Norsia before, allowing foreign banners to fly free uncontested in Norsian halls.

"Can you believe how long its been since a Prydanian royal had set foot in Norsia Colart?"
"Barely your majesty, its been a long time.." he responded with a smile.

"Seven hundred years more or less, and the last time it was an invasion-- by Toby's ancestor no less.. and my ancestor Anita the first led the charge against him, looking back it feels kind of odd how we can get along even though its been centuries.."

"time goes, new things grow; old dies. The old grudges of the past have long since died with our ancestors and the events of these recent days have formed a strong brotherhood. they occupy Renou- but we let them do it gladly as friends."

Robert I made it all the way to the outskirts of Irras in his invasion and beyond. Roberts fortune started to end as he found himself staring down the mustered forces of Anita I her Knights Order of the Wolfs Scept, The Norsian foot soldiers and field archers and the feared and revered Trien heavy cavalry and horse archers. After several skirmishes in his favor Robert perhaps underestimated a united Norsian army scorned, and the Norsian brutality they brought in all engagements. the tide turned when Robert became outnumbered. The book describes the war in vivid, though probably inaccurate detail-- but Alycia loved this book all the same and she's always had it since she was little.

To the credit of the Prydanians it credited Roberts Knights for their last stand. holding off the combined Trien and Norsian army long enough for Robert to escape and then some, a last stand that is held in regard with honor and valor, a last stand even the scorned Norsians would praise for ages to come.

When Tobias reached the doors to the palace the guards on the outside gave a bow and opened the door, causing Alycia to side the book and stand with a smile as a herald called out.
"All hail His Majesty, Tobias Scylfing Lothbrok III, by the Grace of God, King of Prydania, Lord Protector of Austurland, Marshal of Beaconsfield, Lord Uniter of Prydania, Defender of the Faith."

Alycia leaned back in her chair for a moment rubbing her hands together nervously as she poured over reports from all of the rebuilding cities, the aid effort is hurting but the rebuild effort is fairing better than it was even two months ago, a few factories had been brought back online and have already sent out refined and finished goods in their run ups, providing much needed concrete, metals nails and other materials. Even five percent of those factories production potentials is a massive boon to Norsia in its second dark age.

Alycia sat forward and looked at her gel pen and letters-- she could call the Cogorians but it'd be way easier to make a diplomatic slight over the phone against a nation she had no idea how to approach.
Damn the House for forcing such a move so quickly, among giving the SSP more momentum, first time the House convenes and already she wants to overrule it..

But the aid the Cogorians can give, plus their technical expertise in certain fields cannot be denied, it was time to take up the pen once more.

TO: Chairman Zhukov
SUBJECT: Aid and development, and diplomatic ties.

Chairman Zhukov, first and foremost I would like to say that I know you do not recognize my titles or my seal, so I will not insult you or Cogoria by even having them on this letter.
With peace in Norsia now assured and in full gear to rebuild as fast as it feasibly can, Syndicalists and conservatives united to retake what was broken. I and my Democratic House would like to extend a hand to Cogoria in an effort to warm relations with each other. Our first encounter with each other was not the greatest or the friendliest and that should be rectified in this second attempt.

Norsia asks for your aid in the rebuild effort for the sake of bettering the lives affected by the war. on top of this I would like to extend the proposal to jointly develop the Airforces of Cogoria and Norsia.
with Norsia's military pride being in its Airforce I would be remiss not to rectify its currently dysfunctional condition. and we would both benefit greatly from a combined Think Tank.
I am willing and prepared to offer a currently unused and well developed airbase in Trien Norsia to base and house this thinktank.

I would also request to send a mostly unrestricted diplomatic team to Cogoria, to explore its culture and its systems. To see if the portrait; bias other nations paint of it is true or just libel. and I owe it to the Syndicalists in my nation to explore the final product of the revolution they so sought.
If such an affair goes well I may want to even visit myself perhaps.

Sincerly,
Alycia Severyn
Commonwealth of Norsia

Rebeca nodded in acknowledgement of the info provided by the Norsian private.

"How have the people around here been doing so far? I've heard this area has many needs that have stretched your fellow men thin." The Major began. Rebeca was hoping to gain at least a few details about recent conditions.

"Well Ma'm, between trying to be peacekeepers and handing out supplies it’s hard to keep order. The people need food, water and shelter-- shelter we can provide easily with our tents. We exhaust our current supplies of water and food faster than more can come from the east. The demand means more trucks, more supplies and more men, which we can't spare."

The Major nodded again calmly. It had seemed her people were in the right position to help.

"How about current morale and opinion among your brothers and sisters-in-arms? How have they been holding up while waiting for outsiders like us to help?" She also asked, trying to get an idea about the emotions of the locals. It seems they're very well worn, and ready to receive anything, but how quickly would they be willing to cooperate with soldiers of a different culture...?

"We are worn out, but overall I would consider our morale high. We're all in this together; brothers at arms and civilian." the man paused and looked at Rebeca in the eyes with a wide but tired smile. "I am working and cracking jokes with soldiers just a few weeks ago I was shooting at. We are whole again and I am working to keep it that way. Sure-- we have a few fights here and there but nothing of serious grievance yet." the soldier turned back to his work with the same smile.

Rebeca was a little surprised, but it was a pleasant surprise, given the conditions she had imagined. She smiled back lightly. "That is a great thing, in anyone's opinion." Then she wanted to get an idea of the man she's to meet soon... "And your commander, Major Baschet, I assume he's one of the bigger reasons you and your friends have kept the hope up for so long? What's he like, in your experience?"

"The Major? He's hard when it comes to the line of duty and he has no patience for screw ups, in his own words. 'Screw ups cost lives, so don't screw it.'" the Private looked up again. After he opened another crate to do his counting the crate filled with bottles of water. "He's one of the few officers of his rank that will fight with you in the frontlines. I fought with him in Mestovsky, where others started to flee he stayed in the church square trench, facing down armored vehicles. I don't know if he is ultimately suicidal or what, but he leads by sheer example and he is hard on you because he cares, but he'll rip your head off if you screw up."

The two conversed on and off for the next half hour before a Norsian tank approached them. Lumbering and nearly demolished, yet somehow still functioning, it matched the ruggedness and gruff of the one commanding it - Major Baschet.

Major Williams saluted back, not taken aback that she had to look up to such a towering figure, Williams being only five foot eight inches. She was actually more in awe of the tank, for back in native Thenaca, such tracked war machines were not adopted unlike most other nations of Eras... They simply were never needed in Thenaca's mainly pacifist and Air-Force centered strategy. Still, they looked powerful to her.

"Glad to finally meet you, Major. I'm Major Williams, and this is my Peace Helper Company." She introduced herself back, looking to and gesturing to the awaiting line trucks full of men and supplies. Then turning back to the Norsian Major. "I dare to assume you have a long list of destinations for us? Pardon my impatience, we would like to get to those places in need as soon as possible."

Ms. Vidal:

We understand your concerns fully about relations between the Empire and Cogoria and their relation to aid workers from both countries. You have the Empire's word that none of its personnel will engage in aggressive activities towards those of the First People's Empire of Cogoria.

What form of aid does the Commonwealth require?

Regards,
Watana Patimapragorn
Ambassador of the Syrixian Empire to the Norsian Commonwealth

Major Baschet smiled as he took in some of the cold valley air. "You're to the point, I like that. Yes, I have four destinations for you actually. my troops and workers are spread thinly throughout [note]Formerly Rodier[/note]Senheberg, [note]Formerly Plaiseau[/note]Nece [note]Formerly Freseau[/note]Lenefels and [note]Formerly Everlene, the Red Laurel Rebellion capital[/note]Henebruck like butter on bread, but we are holding okay enough in Senheberg and Nece to have those be low priorities on your list."

Baschet takes a quick breath as he takes out a map and extends it to Rebeca

"Lenefels and Henebruck are more desperate for aid than where we are standing right now. Twenty years of PRN oppression and the Malorian front push did a number on them and unlike Nece and Senheberg they weren't nearly as prepared for the front to come back on them, and we haven't gotten our aid settled in there yet. Think your group is up for the task?"

SUBJECT: RE: Renewed Offer

Ambassador. Primarily we need aid in the forms of clothing food and water. Field reports suggest that with what we have in the Central and Eastern regions well enough in hand now. we would ask for you to involve yourself in the western end of the country, in Henebruck and Lenefels and their surrounding countrysides. Henebruck has an airbase you can operate out of, however your people will be operating with Norsians and potentially others in the area.

The threat from the populace in the area is ultimately nil, there has been no resistance no agitators or anything of the such but there is still a special concern we have to contend with. western Norsia is pocked by old Norsi pagan temples, shrines and other various structures, old and new. and with the rise of popularity and membership among the old pagan faith it'd be wise not to damage or interfere with these structures whatsoever.

Best Regards and a warm thank you,

Sabine Vidal, Minister of Foreign Affairs

Norsia, 14th Century

"They call him Virici, my King. He's the father of the gods" Duke Marnix of Jórvík explained as Robert examined the pendant. It was golden, with intricate circles made out of gem stones. He angled it to the light, the sun catching it, causing it to gleam.
"It's rather pretty isn't it?" he said as he sat in the improvised throne in the war camp just north of the Norisan capital. "Not bad for heathens. Tell me brother. Where did you find them?"

"To the west, across the lake" Harald Lothbrok replied. The Duke of Hadden and second in line to the throne was a stark contrast to his elder brother.
Robert was refined. His beard was short and neatly trimmed. He read poetry and played music. His armour even reflected this, with silk woven into the chain-mail. His plate included intricate carvings of stags. It was exactly the sort of armour you'd never expect to actually see in battle.
Harald though? Harald was a true viking. His own beard was wild, his chain mail beaten. He'd actually fought Norsians, and found his brother's dismissal of them to be shortsighted. Robert knew nothing of the people he'd marshalled them all to fight. Harald was sure he could force him to listen, if only he could be pried away from Duke Marnix.

"I took a war band, and caught the enemy by surprise. They were moving east and we came up the coast from the rear. If you don't press the advantage now the Trien Nors will meet with Queen Anita's own knights and..."

"Brother, you sell yourself short" Robert said with a smile as he raised his hand. "Your men have done well. You're proof that we have nothing to fear the advances of western heathens. We'll crush them. Now please, what else did you find?"

"If I may say so your Majesty" Eduard Kvist, Lord General of the Knights of the Holy Flame, said.
"The Duke of Hadden has seen the enemy on the move, and it would be wise to head his advice."

"Lord General, your concern is noted" Duke Marnix replied.
"But His Majesty is well advised of the situation and is acting in the most prudent manner available to him."

Harald and Eduard merely exchanged glances. They both knew that Robert had many strengths. Waging war and keeping those who would prey on his ego at bay were not among them. Still, the Duke was the Chief Justiciar. Neither could challenge him so long as he had the King's favour.

"Ned, Harald" Robert said with a smile.
"I appreciate the council, I truly do. Yet I am confident that the western heathens will not be able to break our siege. We'll crush them with our vanguard. The Norsian Queen will be able to do nothing but watch from a city that will be mine before to long. Now brother. See to it that the trinkets you've raided are secured. And please. Try to enjoy yourself. Our victory is imminent."

Harald could only nod. "Of course my King" he said with a bow of his head, hiding the contempt he had for this shameless display of arrogance.

Norsia, 21st Century

The Norsian throne room itself was more open than the one in Beaconsfield. And yet he could not help but have his attention drawn to Alycia. He had underestimated how much he had missed her, and his heart leapt. Everything else was a blur as he approached her as quickly as he could while still walking.
His nerves, which had dominated him up until the herald had called out his titles, seemed to melt away. He bowed his head respectfully to the Queen of Norsia before he forced himself to do what every overly-cautious voice in his head told him not to do. He stood up and, aware that he was now alone with Alycia and Colart, hugged the Queen. He thought he saw Colart glaring at him out of the corner of his eye, but he pushed it out of his mind.

"I've missed you" he said as he released her, nervous as to what she was going to say. "I've been worried. Less so since the referendum and election but still..." he forced himself to calm down.
"I'm just very happy to see you" he added with a soft smile.

"They're all dead looks like a few hours ago.. may Sagila guide them.." Valis a heavily tattooed man, looked upon his fallen troops. "That is not all, their pendants of the Gods are all gone.. This man, I know he wore his God Father Pendant proudly.." the commander looked to the man and then back to the rest, all mounted on horse, carrying a variety of weapons wearing a variety of clothing or none at all.

"Raise your Pendants and sigils to the Gods! we no longer just fight for the queen! we fight for the Gods themselves! We will paint the fatherland with Heretic blood! we will slaughter the thieves who dare dishonor the divine, Burn the dead! we have no time to bury them!"
after half an hour the dead burned and pendants were fastened to the Pagan banners the cavalrymen had carried. The pendants glistened in the sun as they were raised high. Valis signaled the order to move forward, and the horns of war repeated his command. an army of horses and wagons moving forward at a driven pace. their march sounding like thunder as they shook the ground.

"Tell me, Lord Commander, how much longer do we have?" Anita asked as she looked over the battlements at the barbarians. as it started to drizzle rain. "A day, two at most, then we will start to starve, or mutiny first I don't know which will come first." the Lord commander replied. "our numbers are fewer than theirs at the moment, but I believe we are more well trained and regimented. its a damn shame they caught us during a bad harvest.." Anita looked to him and then around the battlements before she saw the catapult her eyes widening.
"Tell me Lord Commander, does that still work?" with a smile starting to crack on her face. "Yes it does Your Grace, but we haven't the stones to lo--" "Do we have a cow?" "yes we do it's part of our rations, I hardly doubt we need the cow ri--" the Lord Commander was cut off abruptly by the Queen her put her plate covered hand on his shoulder and looked him dead in the eyes.

"Slaughter it, taint it with bilge, load it onto the catapult and fire it. right into their camp, aim for that coward kings tent." Anita said quickly with a large mischievous grin, after a brief moment of staring at her dumbfounded he shouted the order down the battlements.

several moments later a loud sound of wood bending, wood and metal thunking against other wood and metals could be heard as a dead cow goes airborne sailing towards the Prydanian siege encampment. as bannermen on the walls waved the banners proudly in defiance.

Alycia's smile faded and turned to shock as Tobias practically raced up the steps after his bow and put her in a hug. Alycia stood there frozen in place.
Colart with a grim sneer on his face started to approach as the hug was broken, only stopping when Alycia quickly dragged Tobias back into the hug a second later. Colart stopped dead in his tracks and with some reluctance let out a slight sigh as he calmed himself. He even smiled slightly at her assent seeing no harm had been done to Her Grace and that is all that mattered to him.

"I missed you too, I'm not used to such sweetness or softness, I like it." Alycia pulled away from the hug after half a minute with a smile as she looked Toby into the eyes. "The referendum and elections was sloppier than I liked. But that is my own failing." Alycia stepped back and spread her arms out to her sides "Welcome to my home! still a bit too grandiose, but I can't really do anything to this old throne room. history is too important to tear down and we have lost enough of ours."
Alycia took a breath to calm herself a bit but it doesn't seem to have really had any effect. "I have cleared my calendar for you, nothing short of an emergency shall interrupt this visit." her small gentle smile widened.

"Jórvík will never let you be alone with your brother again, I can assure you that Harald" Lord General Eduard Kvist said as he spoke to Robert's younger brother. "Probably because you won't stand for his nonsense."

Harald just looked up, grunting as he sharpened his sword.
"You're the Royal Executor" the Prince replied. "You should be able to manage something."

"Yes, I am tasked with executing your brother's will, but so long as he's clearly keeping Marnix Jórvík's council? Well...I must abide by that."

"Yes" Harald replied, standing. Eduard was of average height, but the Prince towered over him at 6'3.
"But he made you Royal Executor. Not Jórvík. He listens to you. More than he ever did me. If he did we wouldn't be here. Or if I was stupid enough? We wouldn't be having a picnic in the Norsian highlands while the enemy gathers their strength" he angry grunted as tossed a dented helmet into the dirt.

Eduard nodded, staying quiet for a moment. The Harald was frustrated. It was hard not to be, he figured. His brother was so far out of his depth, and yet what could he do? Duty compelled him.

"Your warband will be ready though?" Eduard asked.

"Of course!" Harald replied, frustration seeping from every word he spoke. "We may have to abide by my brother's softness, but we won't succumb to it."

Eduard was about to reply when he felt a speck of water on his face. Harald must have felt it too as he looked up.
"Rain" Eduard said. "We better pray that your brother gets into his tent before his silks are ruined..."

Just then a thud could be heard, followed by commotion, causing the two to run off and investigate.

"A cow? A cow?! End the bitch!" Robert screamed, fists pounding on the map-covered table. "Drag her from her castle, and bring me her head on a pike!"

"You ought not to let this get to you, my King. We have the advantage. They must wait, we control the countryside. An attack now, it plays into the enemy's hands."

"Lord General Eduard is right" Harald replied. "Give me a day brother, and I promise you we can move on Anita's position..."

Robert, however, clenched his jaw before approaching his younger brother. Eyes wide, unafraid of his sibling's tall stature or reputation as a formidable warrior.
"First you say we should press the advantage. Now you tell me we need to wait."

"Prince Harald merely agreed with my assessment, You Majesty. Please..."

Robert held up his hand. "Lord General Eduard, this is between my brother and I. I am wondering if he's intending to frustrate every decision I make."

Harald wanted so badly to roll his eyes. Yet he didn't.
"You have sat us for days. We run through the Highlands, and then you sit. And you want to wait. Aye, I told you that was a mistake. And I'll still tell you that. We did it though. And now? Well men like to rest their feet. And remove their chain mail and their armour. And put down their swords, axes, and bows. They like to drink and sit by a fire. You let them do that. Give me a day and we can be ready to be whatever you need us to be."

"If I may say so, Your Majesty" Duke Jórvík said, trying not to get in between the King and his brother. "I do believe that the Prince and Lord General are speaking the truth. Maybe it..."

Robert raised his hand to cut Jórvík off.
"No. The bitch sent a cow into my war camp. My war camp!" he looked at Eduard.
"Ned?! Prepare the Knights of the Storm. Rally the men! March on that city! And keep my brother and his war band in line!"

Eduard just nodded. "Of course Your Majesty" he said, before placing a hand on Harald's shoulder. "Come. No use fuming here. If you're going to kill someone it might as well be a Norsian."

Harald just nodded, biting his tongue as he turned, storming from the King's tent.

Norsia, 21st Century

Tobias smiled as Alycia released the hug.
"I'm honoured" he replied at the news that the Queen had cleared her schedule. "I'm at your beck and call as long as I'm here" he added. "I've..." he paused for a moment before thinking through what he wanted to say. "I've been looking forward to visiting for some time now."

"And I've brought something!" he added, stepping halfway down the steps where Alycia stood. "We found them in the cellars of Tempest Holm after we retook it years ago!"

The doors opened, and two Prydanian soldiers carried in an old, large chest, setting it down before leaving. He motioned for Alycia to follow him to the chest. "Once we could verify they were what we thought they were well...I knew I had to bring them back."

He opened the old chest, which was filled with cases. Stacked plexiglas cases holding medieval pagan Norsian jewellery.
"This one honours Virici, I think" he held one of the cases in his hand, containing a golden pennant set in place in a display, the chain preserved along with the gem stones.
"I'm afraid I don't know much about the old Norsian faith" he said, blushing just a bit. "But I know that they've spent too much time in Prydania."

Norsia 14th Century

Anita and the Lord Commander continued to observe from the outer wall of the city watching the enemy camp intensely for any signs of Anita's provocation having succeeded. Konigin Anita was getting more and more impatient the longer she had to wait for something decisive to happen before she finally spoke up to the Lord commander next to her.

"Tell me Lord Commander, do you think they will attack in response to the cow?" the commander scoffed slightly "Undoubtedly, its a good way to tell them to go plow it. I don't see them as ones to let go of an insult. if their King or commanders are as much as a hedge-born as I think they are they will rally much sooner at the very least. Though I kind of doubt an imminent attack."

"I doubted an imminent attack when a rider brazenly rode a horse straight into my throne room shouting alarms. Now they are at my gates, proved me wrong right quick. Gods willing I will take a head for that."

the Lord Commander smiled and then jerked back to look past the Konigin as a horn blew in the distance from the west and a wall guardsmen called out. "Trien rider approaching from the forests! open the gate!"

Anita and the Lord Commander met the rider at the front of the gate Anita near snapping at him out of urgency "Rider report! You rode hard, so speak as fast!"
the rider nodded. "King Rotislav is approaching from the west through the forests, using them as cover, His combined warbands will be here in the next hours! One at least; three at most!"
Anita smiled "Good bringing this to me warrior, go take rest and get some food and drink you look like you need it."
Anita turned to her retainers and the Lord Commander. "Rally our troops everyone must be ready for battle in mere moments. I want hot oil ready along the walls, braziers of fire too. I want those catapults and balliste manned. I want a Balliste to provoke them further, launch a spear into their camp or as close as you can get."

the soldiers saluted her with their hearts and rushed off to go accomplish her orders, shouting in the distance and soon, the ringing of alarm bells could be heard throughout the city. Soon soldiers would come rushing and rallied into formation in the courtyard in front of Anita atop of the wall. other soldiers and archers manned the wall and helped with the final preparations. men women and even kids ran arrows and other equipment back and forth to soldiers from forges, leather-workers and [note]a type of craftsmen specialized in the service of creating arrows and crossbow bolts.[/note]fletchers.

thirty minutes later stood amassed the soldiers of Anita and Norsia. Amittedly still gathering or arming themselves. "The Enemy barbarians have pillaged and raped our homelands to the north, and now they stand at our gates attempting to take us by force! You hold this city and the highlands for the Queen of Wolves! Let their leaders be put to the sword! Here our enemies will know no weakness, no mercy, only the unbridled fury and unyielding strength of NORSIAN ARMIES!"

and eventually, finally. Anita turned to the Balliste crew "FIRE!" followed by the sounds of the Balliste firing sending its large spear towards the enemy camp. no telling where it will land.

Norsia 21st Century
Alycia followed Toby down the steps with a big smile as they approached the chest with Toby opening it.
Colart couldn't help but mutter quietly to himself. "shit, I can already hear wedding bells.." as he absentmindedly rubbed his ear trying to stop the ringing and then started to follow them down the steps, his stance adopting the passive happy feeling of the room.

Alycia took the cased pendant carefully in her hands her face of amazement. "These pendants haven't been seen in centuries.. You just brought back lost history, I love this!" Alycia set the pendant down carefully back in the trunk and gives Toby yet another elated hug. "The followers of the faith will be so happy to see this history.."

Alycia pulled back away with a slight flush in her cheeks. "you must be hungry after the journey from Beaconsfield, why don't we catch up and discuss matters over dinner? should be close to that time."

Norsia, 14th Century

"Triens. Barbarians" Robert remarked with contempt, the cow being burnt by soldiers nearby to keep it from spreading disease.

"You underestimate them" Harald said, mounted on a horse and clad in leather and chain mail, peering at the castle through the spectacle face-guard of his helm.
"We've fought them up and down the coast of Kings' Lake. They earned worthy deaths."

"I don't feel as if His Majesty was speaking of their fighting abilities" Duke Marnix of Jórvík replied, shaking his head.

"You and my brother insisted on this attack, Justicar" Harald growled with barely restrained contempt.
"Now that it's upon us? Stay back and let us lead it."

"Regardless" Lord General Eduard Kvist injected, "the Trien could not be far from his band. We must attack now, least the enemy be bolstered by their arrival."

"Then go. And bring me Annita's head when it's all said and done" Robert ordered, turning back to his tent, to be followed by the Duke of Jórvík.

Eduard looked worriedly at Harald for a moment before nodding.
"What's one more foolhardy charge into the abyss?"

Harald just smirked. Battle was, at the very least, something he could understand.
"Wait for me. Either on Eras or on the other side" he said with a solemn nod before he drove his horse down to the front lines.

"Do you, sons of Hróarr, brothers of Christ stand upon these foreign lands as cowards? We've slaughtered and burnt the world! All in the name of faith! In the name of our King! Time to be brave! Let others fear, kin of Vortgyn! Their walls will fall, and we will know glory!"

The men cheered. Harald was not Robert. His warband, in the traditions of those that came with Hróarr from the west, was legendary. Even the Bayardian knights of Duke Marnix, armour gleaming and lion standards ablaze, saluted him as their prince. The Duke of Hadden let out a war cry, and led the first assaults on the gates of Lusovo.

Norsia, 21st Century

Tobias wasn't expecting the second hug, embracing Alycia back after a moment of shock. He couldn't help but look at Colart, knowing him well from Alycia's stay in Beaconsfield. He smiled nervously before breaking eye contact as Alycia let him go.

"I just..." he paused for the briefest of moments. He couldn't just say he wanted to bring these back for her. Or could he?
"I wanted the followers of the old Norsian faith to know that Prydania isn't their enemy. Not anymore. And I wanted to bring them back, for you" he said softly.

He couuldn't ignore his hunger though, having passed on the cold camembert and broken crackers in the motorcade.
"I would love to" he said, smiling from ear to ear.

Norsia, 14th Century

"Knock!" a captain called along the wall as archers along the wall knocked arrows and aimed in near unison as the Prydanians charged the gates. "Loose!" Commands similar echoed along the walls as arrows filled the sky, some even on fire.

Near the gates hot oil, barrels of even more oil and rock traps were being readied, braziers of hot coals burned all along the gates and torches stood ready to light the oil. They would no doubt the prydanians would make it to the gates, but when they do it will rain death of various flavors. down below the soldiers readied themselves to brace the gates. The gates could not be allowed to fall before the Triens arrived or all would be lost.

behind the gate the swords, spears and shields of Karl von Kirstein stood ready with gaps in their formation that the [note]Norsian soldiers that are trained in and use 'Hand Cannons' one of the earliest examples of handheld firearms from the Medieval era [/note]Handkanoneurs could retreat through at a seconds notice. the Handkanoneurs stood in a loose formation ready for the enemy to start beating at the gates, ready to light the fuses on their Handkanonen. The standardbearer of the unit held the Royal Coat of Arms high in one hand and held his sword in the other ready to do her part.

The city must not fall.

Norsia, 21st Century

Alycia returned the smile and turned to colart briefly. "Colart I'll be fine without you for the rest of the evening, there are at least two guardsmen on every door in this palace. Take the rest of the night off, enjoy yourself."
Colart simply nodded his head "Thank you, Your Grace, good night." Alycia turned back to Tobias as Colart made his leave and took his hand, leading him into the dining room a relatively modest dining room in comparison to the throne room, one of many examples where Alycia's lifestyle chafes against the extravagance of her home.

After a few minutes Tobias left to go get ready for dinner as Alycia helped her waitstaff set the table.

Norsia, 14th Century

Harald watched as the initial wave tossed up ladders, and attempted to get the stag-shaped battering ram into position. He turned his horse around, back to Lord General Kvis.

"We'll break through. We have men in reserve. And my war ban will visit devastation on them when we get over their walls."
He took off his helmet as he took in the sight of the beginning attack.

"I only wish I could fight alongside you" he Eduard mused.

"Oh come now. It hasn't been that long since my brother yanked you away to be his bodyguard, has it?"
Eduard laughed..."I still miss it. I miss you."

Harald smiled, looking down for a moment. It was impossible, regardless. He leaned over, and the lovers kissed.
"I have a city to take, Ned. Go make sure that, if things go wrong, my dullard brother doesn't die."

Harald tossed his helmet back on, driving his horse into a frenzy. He road back to camp only to ride back towards Lusovo, now leading a contingent of Bayardian knights, their gold banners blazing alongside black and white Lothbrok banners. Ned watched him pass before heading back to the Knights of the Storm, a pit forming in his stomach.

Norsian arrow whizzed past Harald's head, as he and the rest of his warband lead the Bayardians to the attack. There was still a sizable portion of the army left behind, in the event that Ned needed to rally defenders to the Royal camp. Still, the assault had begun. The battering ram was in position as an upturned wall of shields protected the soldiers underneath.

Harald grabbed a solider, a young man holding up the battering ram on the left side, in the middle.
"You're going to help me take this city?" he barked.

"Ye...yes m'Lord!" he proclaimed, earning a smile from Harald before helping another solder steady a ladder. The assault had begun.

Norsia, 21st Century

Tobias wore a black cotton shirt and khaki slacks along with matching loafers to dinner. He'd slowly started to embrace his willingness to forgo his formal Marshal uniform when not in public. He'd already incurred the wrath of William once already, but William wasn't here.

"I don't think I've ever had Norsian cuisine" he said with a smile, not at all seeming to notice the modest dining quarters. Instead, he took his seat, relaxing just a bit as he smiled at Alycia.

14th Century Norsia

"[note]Swords and Shields on the walls! Swords and Shields! [/note]Schwerter und Schilde auf tas stände! Schwerter und Schilde!" One of the archer commanders yelled down, and soon a handful of swordsmen broke off from the reserve and rushed up in their half plate as a signal bearer grabbed the sign for swordsmen and held it high on the top of the wall.

Some of the archers abandoned the formation and firing at the enemy to tip the ladders back over. others took their hatchets and tried to chop off the rungs that let the enemy climb in and over. one of them even going so far as to take a lit torch and try to set one of the ladders on fire. the prospect of coming into close contact with actual warriors had the younger archers scared enough to act out their fear.

above the gate the gate commander called "[note]Hot oil! Prepare fire![/note]Heißes Olej! P?ipreiten feuer!" in another moment as the ram would start to hit the gate, the oil cauldrons tilted and the steaming hot oil was dumped. one of the soldiers lit a torch, and was getting in position to throw it over, but the right time had to present itself.

21st century Norsia

Alycia had stayed in her dark navy blue button shirt and waist skirt and of black loafers. It was most certainly a dress, but it was more modest than formal.

"I think you'll love [note]Auntie's[/note]Tente's cooking. she loves doing it." Alycia smiled as she took one of the hot bread sticks in front of her.
"So how is your visit so far? Norsia is not too dissimilar in terms of sights is it?" she ended with taking a small bite.

Norsia, 14th Century
The battering ram slammed into the gates of Lusovo again and again, over and over. Harald thought he could feel each strike in the ground, but perhaps he was simply letting his imagination run away on him. Regardless he rallied the vikings of his war band up the ladders. He kept his gaze upward, even as the sounds of men screaming and the smell of burning flesh filled the air.
He picked up a circular shield from one of his fallen vikings, even as Prydanian Knights and archers joined the fray. The red and white shield, depicted prancing stags, was held up as he shoved a soldier aside to lead a charge up a ladder. He bat away arrows with the shield, even using it to protect himself from splashes of oil. Finally, he reached the top, wrestling with an archer, before pulling him over.

"Triens from the west" he thought. He needed the city before then. The urgency rattled in his head even as a Norsian solider slammed into his shield and he squared himself with another one, both of their swords drawn. That he was a Prydanian, and a Loðbrók prince at that, within the walls of Lusovo itself did not even enter his mind. One man atop a wall did not conquer a city.
Instead he just smiled. He was a viking. The last viking warband leader, some said. It was a way of life and combat for warriors that was nearing its end. Still, it was who he was. The Duke of Hadden let out a vicious cry as he locked swords with the poor Norsian who had the misfortune of being in his way, as more Prydanian infantry managed to eek up the walls.

"You ought to send your men and the rest of the army to the Landonsruh Pass" the Duke of Jórvík protested as Eduard Kvis tried to ignore him back at the Royal Camp.
"Lord General" the Duke and Justicar finally growled. "Will you take your men to the pass or not?"

"No" Eduard remarked with a cheerful demeanour as he bit into an apple from the King's tent.
"And why not? The Triens are coming! You could cut them off!"
"The city isn't taken Justicar. Have you not noticed? If, God forbid, we don't carry the day at Lusovo and the rest of our army is engaged at the Pass, then who, pray tell, would defend His Majesty? Who would protect him, and you, from Anita's vengeful counter-attack? Neverless defend the Austurland March. No. The Knights of the Storm will guard the King. As is our charge. And I'm conscripting the rest of this army into that effort."

"The King will hear of this" the Justicar responded, sounding more insulted than anything else.
"Please do, and I'll explain how I, and his brother, are doing the best to win a war you goaded him into starting."
Eduard stared daggers into the Duke of Jórvík before walking off to more pleasant things. Like preparing an army to either storm a breached castle or defend a King. And finish his apple, of course.

Norsia, 21st Century

Tobias grinned as he took his first bite, nodding. It didn't taste all that different from Prydanian food really. Though was that so surprising? Lusovo was relatively close to the Prydanian border.
"You Tente..." he paused for a moment as he remembered Norsian vocabulary. He was afraid he may have hit the "nt" a bit too hard though.
"...she's quite good at it." He took another bite, hoping to savour the taste. "I don't think I've had cooking this good in a long while."

He looked around a bit. The dinner area was modest all things considered. It certainly seemed spartan by Goyanean standards. Hell, it seemed spartan even by Prydanian standards. Still? It barely registered. Eating one's dinner in a bunker made anything else seem suitable by comparison.
"It's nicer. I wish I could see mountains from Beaconsviði" he relaxed in his chair. The first time he'd had since coming here that he'd been able to do so. Nothing to present. No pretence.
"And of course I get to see you" he said with a grin. "I've missed you. And I've heard..." he paused, for a moment. A voice in his head telling him not to say anything. After all it wasn't his concern. Not technically. Still, it wasn't enough to dissuade him.

"I've heard of the political upheaval that's happened recently. I've been worried" he said nervously.

The battering ram slammed into the wooden gate heavily, and soon the would began to crack and break, the other side started to break through and the order was given for the Kanoneurs to light their fuses and aim.
the line behind them ready to surge forward in a counter charge. even as tehy could faintly hear teh sound of burning men scream and the smell of burning flesh wafted into the street. The smell did not ease their nerves.

The Norsi soldier tried to break the lock in his favor with a swift jab to Haralds gut as he freed one of his hands. but it only served to weaken the hold on his own blade. from behind the soldier Anita and her guards watched the sight before more Prydanians managed to set foot on the wall. Anita called out "Knights of the Wolfzept to your Queen! our enemies want to die! Send them to [note]The Norsi Pagan Goddess of Light, Life, and Death[/note]Sagila! Kill the [note]Prydanians[/note]Prydän!

Anita’s fully plated knights formed a line of shields swords and spears in front of her as she melded into the back of the formation, as they started to slowly and systematically creep forward in short paces.

The haunting sounds of Trien warhorns filled the air from the distance, quickly followed by the ever increasing rumbling of horses and the warcries of men and women from within the forest Soon two hundred Triens charged out from the Landonsruh Forest Pass in full gallop, weapons drawn and at the ready A small group of knights in regalia bearing Anita’s coat of arms leading the charge.

Alycia smiled "I haven't gotten her to try, but I think Tente could make tack into some kind of treat given enough time, and maybe a miracle."

Alycia almost laughed a bit as Tobias admired the view of the mountains. “You wish you had Norsian mountains, I can’t say I blame you.. I think our mountains are to you what your forests are to us, A beautiful and a rare sight. And flattery will get you everywhere. You are too good at it.”

Alycia’s smile faded as Toby brought the political upheaval into the conversation, remembering the stresses she was hoping to stay away from for at least a few more hours. But you can’t just ignore the reasons for a state visit. The smile faintly returned in a more subdued manner as she began to speak again.
“I can understand your concern Toby, it is a big bump in the road, but I am working to make it not be a mountain. If you’re worried I am turning into my mother, please don’t be. I have made mistakes I know, but I have no intention of letting the current state of affairs keep going.” she said with a slightly nervous tone

She set down her fork and knife, focusing on Tobias more than her food now. “I have no intention of becoming a tyrant. The loopholes in the constitution are being addressed, and when I am confident the senate can truly function as it should it will be reconvened, and its vacant seats will be voted for.” she finished off, with an even more nervous tone.

Harald tossed the dead man aside. His eyes were wide, as the rush of battle coursed through him. He pointed his sword at Anita. He'd heard bards sing of her. And he wasn't his idiot older brother. He wasn't going to underestimate her because she was a woman. He'd match her with all his might and if she fell? She fell.

The Wolfzept knights were looking to fight as much as he was, as Prydanian soliders gathered around him on the wall. The moment was so close. Die here, meet his ancestors in the grace of God or win a glorious victory. His hand gripped his sword, heart racing. He was ready to charge...and then the Trien horns echoed. He looked up, over Anita's shoulders, the banners of the Trien knights visible.

It was too late! He moved to charger the Queen, only for one of his men to grab him from behind.
"We need to go! We're needed on the ground! We need to meet the Triens in battle, or we're all dead anyway!"

Harald glared at Anita.
"Við hittumst í Valhalla, náð ykkar!"[note]"we'll meet in Valhalla, Your Grace"[/note] he yelled before he turned, to retreat down the wall.

Tobias smiled. Good at flattery! That couldn't be a bad sign.
He nodded as he listened to Alycia. He wanted so badly to say more, if nothing else then to warn her of what she was doing. Of who she was trusting. Already he felt uneasy being in Lusovo with Syndicalist ministers out and about. It's not that he didn't trust Alycia. Just that some people she had put her trust in were...well it was hard for him to be objective about certain political factions.
He was able to set aside those worries to trust that he was safe, though. Trust in Alycia, and trust in the norms of international diplomacy.

"I know you're not your mother" he said softly. "And I wouldn't worry about her. She's Marten's problem now" he added with a chuckle.
"I don't think you're a tyrant either, regardless of what some say. I know you had your reasons" he said before eating some more.

"Uncertainty is nerve-wrecking, isn't it?" he said, feeling nervous himself. "Even an election is terrifying if for most of your life you didn't know if you were going survive for another day..."
He sipped some wine.

"I'm sorry Alycia' he said with a smile. "Things will be fine, if you trust good people. And trust in the good of people" he added with a grin.

Anita broke from the formation and peered down the walls to see the Triens horde cavalry, with King Valis and Valis the younger leading the charge. she grabbed the end of the horn mounted directly onto the wall and gave it a long blow before turning back to the troops inside the wall.

"We will not let them escape! Knights mount your horses, Soldiers steel yourselves! we take the field! suffer none to live! Open the gate!"

Anita rushed down and got on to her own horse, covered head to toe in chain and plate, and draped in her regalia. she took position in front of her own retainer retinue of knights as the splintered gates were slowly pulled open. anyone who was still on the opposite side was in for a rude surprise.

The Triens raised their weapons into a position ready to attack as they rapidly grew ever closer to the Prydanian lines King Valis shouted as he readied to strike down an older Prydanian he had his sights on his first kill. "GLORY TO THE FIRST MAN TO DIE!" he shouted. he was quickly followed by the unified warcries of the Triens.

Alycia took another bite of her food and seemed to savor it more as her face seemed to light back up.
"Well, I should not have to be so.. Brazen or bold in my plays anymore, I can take a step back and consolidate. from here on out it should all be a matter of soft power, and rebuilding what was lost. but beyond that, despite setbacks I think this all came out okay. I trust Gabriel not to betray me, he's a politician but he is honest; Ironically. He knows one of us cannot work without the other. and so long as I have Colart and my guard I trust no one to ever lay a hand on me or my guests." she paused for a moment taking another bite and washing it down with water.

"I even get to eat with great company, its been too long since I had a meal with someone else. Fruits of all the labor." she smiled.

Harald looked up the castle wall angrily. He had been there! Right there! He grabbed his horse, looking to rally his men.
"Do not die for me, or your king. Die for your ancestors, your God, your homeland!" He charged. With the Trien cavalry approaching he would need to...to hold them off. There was no other option. So long as his forced were here, they were a threat to Lusovo. The Triens wouldn't dare leave him to breach the walls. Which meant his brother, the King, and his host were safe for the time being.
He glanced once more in the direction of Eduard. He could only think one word. "Sorry" before he steeled himself. His horse shook as he made contact with the Trien lines, scanning the mass of humanity for the Trien King and his son, Valis and Valis the Younger.

Eduard clenched his jaw for a moment as the battle unfolded before him. Part of him wanted to cry out, seeing the move for what it was. A sacrifice. And yet, through tears, he commanded one of his Knights of the Storm to head back to the Royal camp.

"The rest of the army must flee. Protect the King, and make haste for the Austurland March as fast as possible. Go!"
The knight nodded and turned, his horse galloping as fast as it could manage to Robert I's camp as Eduard surveyed the battle before the gates of Lusovo.

"Every tale needs its stars and knaves" Eduard remarked, his lip trembling. "Let the bards decide which role we're playing today."
And with his men, the remaining Knights of the Storm, he led a charge into the Trien host, intending to give them too much to even consider chasing down the remaining army retreating with the King.

Tobias nodded, though he felt uncomfortable...he fidgeted a bit.
"I just worry. I've seen Syndicalism take too many people I care about. I don't want it to claim another" he smiled, and leaned in a bit, reaching out for Alycia's hand. His heart raced. He was taking a risk. What if she didn't reciprocate? The very act of showing affection seemed to dwarf the very business he had come to Lusovo to conduct. He didn't care though.

"This Gabriel Dubov...I hope he's as honourable as you, and everyone else, seems to say he is" he said smiling.

Norsia 14th century

The Trien host slammed into the Prydanian invaders as the sounds of combat came to an abrupt uproar. men and women cutting into each other. some being dehorsed crushed or trampled.
the bright red heraldry of King Valis' horse in his peripheral was the only warning Harald would've gotten as Valis' saber barely put a nick into Haralds helmet with its point. Valis' horse shied away bringing Valis out of reach of delivering what could have been a maiming blow.

"Looking for me northerner?! Looks like my host get to kill the last of the vikings! a dead people with dead traditions! What trophies!"

From the city gates the royal Knights Guard sallied out their horses glinting head to hoof in shiny plate and chain armor, and draped in the heraldry of their houses and their deeds Anita leading them into battle her long sword held high and pointed forward signalling their charge. Hosts of armored infantry following after them in brisk pace with swords spears and shields.

Alycia upturned her hand and let Tobias take it as she smiled warmly "You needn't worry so much. But I am glad you do; I'm happy you care."

An hour passed as Alycia and Tobias finished their meals and continued in pleasantries. but an official visit had to see a breakage in the pleasantries for at least a little bit.
Alycia sat up in her chair a little bit more formally as she was the first one to break the pleasantries.

"As much as I love spending time with you and not having to worry about work, we should conduct the business we need to do. this is still an official visit with goals after all.. Kofoed and I already talked a bit about joining our nations railways and putting them in line with a shared standard, your thoughts on the matter?"

Norsia, 14th Century

Harald was dazed, but managed to shake it off, grinning under his helmet, his green eyes piercing through the faceguard. The smell of battle had consumed the field...no one battle had the same smell, but they all felt as if they did, in some way. Today? It smelt ominous. The dirt, the blood...it was a bit more overwhelming than usual. He gripped his sword....

"Many have tried" he called out, "but I'm still here! You and your Horde finally joined us!" he charged on his own horse, his shield adorned with stylized stags ready as he stared down the Trien king.

Norsia, 21st Century

Tobias smiled wide, his heart lifting as he gently squeezed Alycia's hand for a moment. It was simple, Alycia's confidence that she was not in danger. Part of Tobias' mind, perhaps the most insistent part, rationalized it as her knowing the situation in Norsia more than he did. She was also a soldier. She knew how to survive. If things were fine? If she trusted these Norsian Syndicalists? Her approval was enough to calm him...for the time being. So much so that in due time he was able to forget his worries as he enjoyed Alycia's company. The apprehension and worry was pushed to the back of his mind, kept at bay with pleasant conversation and a bit of wine.

It returned, however, stirring from the back of his mind as Alycia brought up the need to get to business. Stirring in the back of his head, but then moving to his stomach. Still he kept his pleasant demeanour, adjusting in his seat. Recalling enough of the details of the railway project.

"Everyone says that it'll be good for trade..." he thought for a moment, to the days before the Civil War had ended in Prydania. Seeing men, women, children, suffering thanks to the then-ongoing conflict. Cities flooded thanks to Syndicalist-destroyed levies.
"I know a lot of the communities along the proposed Prydanian routes are still hurting in a lot of ways. I'm in favour of anything that will help them recover. This railway would do that, I think. These places need a new lease on life."

He paused for a moment.
"I don't know much about Norisa, but surely there are places like that, that were also affected by your own war?" he asked with a smile.
"I just think it's a smart thing to give people a new lease on life. And if the trade comes? The trade comes" he said softly.

"Oh!" he added. "I do know one city. Dornnitz. General Eiderwig and his army are still there, keeping the peace. Ambassador Kofoed informs me that their purpose has mostly been served. I can have them withdraw back to Prydania if you no longer have use for them."

Norsia, 14th Century

Valis turned his horse and goaded it into a charge to meet the Prydanian Lord. His shield braced and his sword ready to slice him down as the battle continued around them. "When we are done with your army we'll burn your homes, see how you like it!"

Anita's small host of Royal Guard slammed into the massive melee, their full suits of plate armor and chainmail a stark contrast to the Triens scale and lamellar armor. and Anita's armor distinguished herself from all others as she made contact with a Prydanian soldier.

Norsia 21st Century

The smile on Alycia's face stayed even as their matters turned to business. "Yes, better and expanded infrastructure can only be a good thing. First we will neatly connect our two networks, and then from there we can expand the rails to where they need to be, for the betterment of all." She took a moment to collect her thoughts and drank the last sip of her wine before she continued.
Alycia after a few seconds nodded. "General Eiderwig serves Prydania well, he's a good General and he has done Norsia a great honor protecting and helping the people of Dornnitz." Alycia shifted in her seat to be more comfortable. "Dornitz should be in a decent enough state that my own forces can take over without strain." she paused again for a second as her smile wore away.

"One thing I can't help but do is read the casualty reports, the old ones and the new ones over and over again. And I have read the after action reports. RLA, and Royal Army. and I have a concern." she took a second to take a breath.
"In the reports it says that over Dornnitz you lost two Harriers, and recovered neither. but you have only rescued one pilot.. to your knowledge have you ever found your missing man or what may remain?" a look of concern was growing on her face.

To the Norsian Government,

After hearing that several countries have send aid and rebuilding efforts to Norsia, we the Ninhundish Government have decided that we’re ready to do the same. As being a country that has had a relatively rough history full of wars and civil instability, we understand the state that Norsia is in right now. Not that long ago we were in a similar situation. The 1970s were a tough decade for us after our leader, Gerhardt Himdach died, the military took over the Greater Ninhundish Reich. The Fascist Military Government was unstable as it couldn’t govern and defend at the same time. During years of civil unrest the Fascists fell in 1981 and the Federal Republic of Ninhundland was formed. We then had to rebuild our economy and government from scratch. While we had decent architecture, the years of unstablity created high unemployment and left many with no hope for the future. It took effort but by the end of the 80s we recovered by ourselves. We already have plans for Ninhundish investment in Prydania and any possible work done in Norsia would be part of a larger mission to develop relations with both countries. We are looking forward to starting relations with Norsia and trying to act more diplomatically on the world stage if you’re up for it.

Sincerely,
The Government of the Federal Republic of Ninhundland

To whom it may concern within the Federal Government of Ninhundland,

We are grateful that you wish to assist Norsia in rebuilding its former glory; and glad to see that you are pursuing more diplomatic pursuits on the world stage. We are, however, aware that Ninhundland has had incidents with the Prydanian government, incidents we strongly urge not to be repeated if Ninhundland wishes to have any sort of humanitarian presence within our borders. It must also be noted that when you are writing a formal diplomatic letter and treatise and you discuss Ninhundland's past, it is highly recommended that you try not to sound like a fascist sympathizer, and/or insinuate that Gerhardt Himdach was a good man. Our country has had its share of fascist oppressors, and we have declared our last one persona non grata. We will not jump out of our chairs, spilling our drinks, to make nice with a fascist government or one that sympathizes with an ideology responsible for oppressing our country and people and murdering millions of Norsians and others. Do not paint yourselves as one. Due to recent events or events in motion, we can no longer accept manpower even though we have need of it. It is becoming hard to ensure the safety of everyone when our military has to do so much. As well, we are not willing to accept foreign security forces into the country who are not Bergum Pact members. However, we are still fully willing to accept capital, supplies and resources, and we are thankful for anything within these departments that can be provided.

Regards,
Gregori Knacke, Norsian Director of Foreign Affairs.

In response to message from the Norsian Foreign Affairs Ministry,

Thank you for your response to our letter regarding aid and financial support. We understand that the Norsian Government is worried about us, as our Government has had a few issues in the past regarding foreign missions. However we’d like to stress that the current leadership of the Ninhundish Government under Prime Minister, Brent Fauchern is not nor supports any form of Fascist ideology. Yes, Ninhundland has had a history of Fascism and there are of course political parties and groups that sympathize with the alt right like in all countries. However, the ideology caused oppression and the largest war across Eras. Our goal is for Ninhundland to remain stable and not to go down any extremist path. We aren’t saying you’re accusing us of being fascist sympathizes as it’s a common misunderstanding. We just wanted to make that clear. Hopefully this clears up any misunderstanding.

In regards to financial support, we are happy to consider sending modern tech exports such as vehicles.

Sebastian Sonnefeld, Vice Director of the Ninhundish Foreign Affairs Ministry
