Aruba Dynasty Returns to Prominence in Tolima Elections

The main story of Tolima's ongoing national elections might be the sweep of the Progressive Party of the traditional Centre Left and Centre Right coalition but one of the main side shows was the re-emergence of the Aruba political dynasty as a major force. Cristina Aruba, the exiled wife of former Dictator-President Horris Aruba, overcame a legal challenge and unseated Progressive Party leader Catherine Hernandez - it's now expected that deputy leader Isabel Melo will take over as President of Tolima - and three other Aruba family members either held or won seats.

The 22 year old grandson of Horris, Thomas Franck Aruba won a seat and two of his uncles - Richard Horris Aruba and Franklin Horris Aruba - held their own seats. The family and its allies now control all of San Miguel's 7 seats, making them the largest familial power bloc in the Parliament. Christina currently lives in nearby Cronaal and has been out of the country since her husband was overthrown more than two decades ago. She successfully challenged a law preventing members of the Toliman diaspora from standing for election and won the redrawn 77th Precinct in a surprise result. Previously Progressive Party leader Catherine Hernandez had a majority of several thousand, but the Precinct was redrawn by the Coalition to reduce the number of Precincts from 700 to 450.

Cristina won by just 114 votes - reduced even further to 77 after two recounts - and will seek to return to Tolima soon, according to her spokesman. The Aruba Dictatorship which ruled for 7 years was characterised by economic growth in tourism and gambling but also large scale repression and reversing of progressive laws passed under the short lived Government of Reform that Horris Aruba overthrew.

A National Tragedy

This morning at 9:34 AM his Royal Highness, King Jonas VII, passed away. He was surrounded by the other members of the Royal Family, excluding his son, Prince Lukas, who was next in line to the throne. Prince Lukas was on a flight to Darcania, and his coronation will occur when he returns. It's believed that he died from heart failure, after having a heart attack a week earlier. He reported chest pain, and a week later he was bound to his bed from the pain.

This morning, an hour before his death King Jonas called for the rest of the Royal Family, telling him that he didn't believe he would make it. The Royal Family came to his bedroom an hour later, and only had 10 minutes to say a tearful goodbye. His last words were "I die in peace, surrounded by the ones I love." Prince Lukas' daughter, and King Jonas' granddaughter, Princess Katherine Annabelle Kjellner, is now next in line to the throne, her father Prince Lukas to become the new king. His funeral will be held on the 24th of October, at 11:00 AM.

PROTESTS IN DEERBOURNE RESULT IN RESIGNATION OF GOVERNOR
By Joshua Lederman and Jill Stegink
Navaronian Press

DEERBOURNE (NP) -- The Governor of the Northeast Province has resigned following protests that scrutinized his campaign. Earlier today, Martin Q. Elk had issued a statement that decreed he will not be running for another term, and will resign next month handing the province down. The protests that accused the Governor was arranged by Juliane Assange who is the chairwoman of Alicandrians, a local political party which is semi-socialist. Misses Assange's protest took place in the Deerbourne Square, which has been home to many events in Navaronia such as the beheading of the King.

Earlier this month, Governor Elk had been a bystander to a major crisis going on in the Northeast, which was the devastating water crisis which brought thousands into a drought and desperate. And not so long before that, he allowed mining to continue in the mountains that contained vast amounts of coal but would require changes that would be unorthodox to the region.

Esplandia has adopted a new flag, overhauling the current flag which has been in use for the last 150 years. The Landesgraad unanimously approved the new flag, and the King is believed to give his consent later this week. The new flag will prominently feature the Esplandian Falcon, the heraldic symbol of House de Halcon and the symbol of Esplandian unity. The flag will continue to feature the red and white Gothel Cross, as well as the ring of twenty stars which represents the monarchy. Many vexillologists have criticized the previous flag for looking too cluttered and that the flag needed outlines around its stars to be able to stand out against the Gothel Cross. This new flag fixes those issues.

A New Flag for Darcania

In response to heavy criticism from local vexillologists over the complexity of the Darcanian flag, Kultur kul Luft held a small contest for the design of a new national flag. The following flag, designed by an anonymous Kroning dragon and one of the more vocal vexillologists, has been adopted in the most recent Zusammenkommen.

We therefore present to the peoples of the world the new Darcanian flag:

Second suspect arrested in Llarin killing

A second County Novrith has been arrested in connection with what county police described for the first time Wednesday as a feud-related killing in Llarin, a small town in County Omaryseth.

Manolos Virvith, 28, of New Aldos was arrested in Novrith, County Novrith, on Thursday and charged with premeditated murder, aiding and abetting a feud, conspiracy to instigate familial violence, and being a fugitive from justice. He will face a further charge of racketeering when he is returned to County Omaryseth.

Manolos joins another man, Sendel Gorrith, who was arrested earlier in connection with the homicide of Llothras Darigovth, 45, of Llarin, whose body was found in what county police said Wednesday was a car deep in the woods on Brook Road on November 21 at around 11:30 AM. County police said the two men conspired with members of "Family A", of Llarin, to murder Llothras in revenge for the disappearance of an unnamed member of "Family A" in 2003. Charges have not yet been brought against these unnamed family members, but police say arrests are forthcoming.

The murder was Llorin's first in over five years. The town, population 403, voted to disincorporate in 2009 and be governed directly as an unincorporated township by County Omaryseth, but the county's Council on Land Use denied the application, claiming it was merely an attempt by the town's residents to pay lower land taxes and that the town still had the population necessary to govern itself.

No one living in Llorin could be reached for comment, but someone living in the adjacent township of Barren Plantation said that "feuds and murders aren't uncommon over there". He wished to remain anonymous.

Manolos will be transported to County Omaryseth for a bail hearing on Monday.

High Chancellor Phillip Montgomery announced his resignation today due to health concerns as he fights throat cancer. There has been much speculation about the severity of his cancer after announcing it earlier this year, but many thought that the High Chancellor and Duke of Brethaliacht would continue to serve well into the following year. His resignation came after deep contemplation and discussions with the King. Montgomery said that he felt it best to spend his time resting as he underwent treatment and that he would get to spend time with his family, especially his many grandchildren. His resignation will take affect after the the first Landesgrad meeting of the new year on February 1st. The King was unavailable for comment though a spokesperson from his office said that he had some prospects for a replacement but would not make a formal decision until after the holidays.

The Winter Bazaar has also opened up in the Gojannesstad Old Town, as is the yearly tradition. You can buy various Christmas goods, traditional foods, ornaments, and other traditional items for the winter festival. Empress Annelise opened up the festival in regular fashion. HISTORIC DISPENSATION GRANTED TO IMPERIAL OFFICE
Guru-Baba grants freedom of travel to office of the Emperor
SNN News | Posted: December 15, 2016

Maharishi-1024x488.jpg

His Celestial Holiness, Kanaji CLXVIII, following the Emperor's Special Anointing.

MERU CITY, SYRIXIA- Around 4 hours ago, His Celestial Holiness, Kanaji CLXVIII, on request of the Imperial office, has granted a special dispensation to His Magnificence, Emperor Rajesh III, to be able to leave the country.

A long-standing custom, one that has endured since the reign of Nabhanyu II, the Monk-Emperor, states that a reigning emperor is not under any circumstances allowed to leave the country or any of her territories, with the exception being whenever an emperor goes on a campaign to conquer a new territory. However, as the world has grown less violent in recent centuries and especially following the Empire's decolonization process, this law became more and more restrictive on the office of the Emperor. Many an emperor has tried to have this law repealed, and all Guru-Babas before Kanaji CLXVIII have denied such requests.

A barrage of public questions followed the Grand Celestial Archtemple's official announcement, such as what the nature of the Crown Prince's role in Imperial politics would be, as well as who would make decisions if the Emperor was out of the country, among other questions. The Emperor and the Guru-Baba in a joint statement affirmed that the Crown Prince's role would remain the same, and that the Emperor would be able to forward decisions to the Grand Parishad or the Crown Prince, and would also be able to call and attend Grand Parishad meetings by video conversation.

When asked what he would do with this new dispensation in an interview hosted by ITV (Imperial TV), the Emperor responded by saying that he would attend the August December Festival Ball with his wife and eldest son, the Crown Prince, so the family could be together for the international festivities.

President Nico Astanov announced today that there would be a Constitutional Amendment, adding the first one to the Constitution. The amendment, which was suppose to be put in at the start, states the official and recognized languages of Jacksonville. The Law states that the Official languages are Mercanti and Jacksonian, while the Recognized State Languages are Illi-Jacksonian and Byera-Jacksonian. The amendment passed all three houses with little opposition, due to it not being a major law that needed to be passed.

The Electoral Commission announced today that the deadline to enter the race for the National Assembly Election is January 2nd and that the election will take place on the 16th. They later went on to say that the deadline to enter for Governor and State Legislature is January 18th, due to that election taking place on the 1st of February. The Commission declared that they had received nearly 22,000 candidates for the National Assembly and that the number is growing. At the end of the address they declared that the Presidential election will take place on July 23rd and that the deadline to enter will be February 21st.

The City of Nichegrad is in the process of being built and today major strides in the planning of the city were made. So far, many apartment buildings have been constructed, as well as some houses. The Federal Government, in conjunction with the city government, announced that a new University, called the University of Nichegrad will be built in the city. As well, a community college, named Niche River Community College is to be built. Christmas is in the air in Jacksonville as people have been stringing up lights and Christmas parades have been going on for days. All of the parades and festivals will lead up to the Christmas Eve celebration on January 6th. Schools began being dismissed on Friday the 16th, making it the earliest known date schools were let out. Some colleges were let out at the start of December. Churches have also began putting on Christmas cantatas and some have even done candlelight services and have lit the advent candles. President Astanov told the nation today that the Parade and festival in East Jacksonville City will be something to see when it happens.

The President also told reporters today that preparations are also in place for Fatherland Day, which is on January the 8th. We asked some children what Fatherland day meant to them and they said that it was a day to recognize those who have came before them and to show national pride in the strides that our country has made.

Thank you for listening in. From us here in Jacksonville, we wish you and yours, a very Merry Christmas!

NewsHour: Jacksonville

Merry Christmas Eve everyone from Jacksonville! This is Tatiana Alexandrova bringing an important news update from Jacksonville.

Snow has began to fall in the Northern parts of the country and in the capital. According to the weather service in Nassau City, the State of East Jacksonville can expect up to 5 feet of snow for Christmas, while the State of Nassau can expect up to 7 or 8. The record snowfall for this time occurred in 2002 when nearly 10ft of snow fell on Christmas Eve and into Christmas Day.

The Jacksonville Christmas Parade takes place tonight in East Jacksonville City. Nearly 300,000 people are expected to be in attendance, making it the largest Christmas festival in the country. Most of the city is shut down right now so that the floats and people can get into position. The festival starts at 7pm tonight and can be watched on any station in Jacksonville and can be watched on GTN2 in Goyanes. The festival will conclude when President Astanov gives his Christmas speech and lights the Christmas tree, which will stay up until January 9th, the day after Fatherland Day and two days after Christmas.

The military began practicing yesterday for the Fatherland Day parade that takes place on January 8th, at the same place as the Christmas festival. The practice featured nearly 300,000 soldiers and 1,000 tanks. Over 500 planes flew overhead and the Navy could be heard firing their guns from the coast. President Astanov will give a speech and lay a wreath during the celebration to commemorate all those who have died for our country.

We thank you for joining us here and once more we wish you a Merry Christmas.

(OOC: I know my last post said that the Christmas Eve festival was January 6th, but that was a typo. Christmas Eve is January 6th for us, but we do the celebration festival on the 24th of December).

"I promise that I will be a man of the people and help fix the nation in the way that the people want it to be." A survey had been taken last week in which it showed that if President Astanov ran, he would win by a margin of 10%.

The city of Nichegrad has finally received its own air force base, a public airport, and even some of the Universities have neared completion in building. The University of Nichegrad has began accepting students to start on January 12th and it is expected to be one of the largest universities in the country. RUMOURS OF "WITCHCRAFT" RESONATING FROM CRONAAL WASTES

TSN Tolima Office | Posted: 31st December 2018

y0xQJ0q.jpg

Artistic depiction of rumoured 'cultists'

Ever since radio broadcasts from Laura Kray shook the region only a few months ago, all eyes have been on Cronaal and the state it's been reduced to over the years. This has also led to a sizeable increase in rumours stemming from the mysterious isles.

The most prominent of these rumours includes the widespread sightings of similarly dressed people dubbed 'cultists' who've been sighted all across Cronaal by aid teams and natives. Their outfits differ between two main variants, either long black robes that cover their torso and legs entirely accompanied by a face mask, or a thick black robe covering their torso with a black hood shy of covering their face.

Their motives unknown, frivolous ideas of their purpose spiral out of control throughout popular media dubbing them as murderers, cannibals, spies, foreign infiltrators and other ridiculous claims. However, The Swansford Network has been privy to an interview with one who claims the be a part of this rumoured cult.

"When we, well. When we hear about your theories about what we may be doing we laugh, we laugh at your naivety. The assumption that a, 'gasp', organised group of people in Cronaal is likely a group of murderers or people who wish to prey on others? Utterly Pathetic. All I want to do- All we want to do is, through means incomprehensible to you, search for the next heir to the throne of our once-prosperous homeland. Surely this is a noble task? One that is in the best interests of all of us?"

The authenticity of the interviewees claims are unclear at best, however, the Swansford Network promotes these claims over the brash and evidence-less rumours of other media.

Major telecommunication companies have reported an increased usage of data during the New Year festive period, particularly data usage for social media.

The data traffic peaked at 10.5 terabytes in the period from Dec. 31, 2016 to Jan. 1, 2017, increasing the traffic ratio by 9.41% from typical figures.

The decrease of the voice services indicated a shift in mobile usage to increased dependency on data than on traditional voice calls.

The company increased its data capacity to 7 terabytes per day for the New Year period, said SSTel's head of corporate communications Nguyen Tanh Hung in a statement on Tuesday.

Meanwhile, SSTel's business rival Taiyo Telcom also started the year with a substantial increase to its data usage, with a payload traffic of 5 petabytes per day during the New Year transition, which is a 25 percent increase from Taiyo Telcom's average payload in 2016.

Its voice usage also rose but only by 0.2 percent compared to its daily average.

Taiyo Telcom's vice president for corporate communications Ahmad Sutiyana noted that the increase in data usage was caused by Taiyo Telcom customers using more data for video and music streaming, as well as online gaming.

Military spending increased from 2% to 7.5%, while rebuilding funding increased from 5% to 17.8%. Education also saw a 2% increase. The budget was immediately approved by the President and by the Cabinet of Ministers.

Yesterday was the last official day for citizens of Jacksonville to register as candidates for the National Assembly. A grand total of nearly 100,000 people registered to contest a seat but only 72,000 people were approved by the Electoral Commission. The commission declared that the majority of candidates came from the National Conservative Party and from the Jacksonville Democratic Party. The Electoral Commissioner said that 52% of the candidates came from these two parties and that the rest of the 48% came from the Modern Center Party, the New Jacksonville Party, the Christian Conservatives of Jacksonville, the Jacksonville Democratic Union, the Jacksonville Progressive Party, United Jacksonville, and the League of Social Democrats. All parties will be allowed to contest a total of 530 seats in the House and 225 seats in the Senate. The election is set to take place on January 16th with results being known by the end of the week.

The City of Nichegrad was just approved for a military base north of the city. The city already is home to two air force bases and one air defense base but now there will be an addition of an army base. The Government approved of such after finalizing an agreement with the Mayor of the city. The Mayor and the President of the State of Nichegrad said that half of the funding would come from Nichegrad while the other half would be paid for by the Federal Government.

Our final story for the hour, when the election takes place on January 16th, a referendum will also be held. Following debate by the Acting National Assembly, it has been decided to hold a referendum to decide whether or not the Council of the Republic should be appointed or elected. The National Assembly already struck the law that prevented member of the Council of the Republic to be in a political party. The referendum was approved by the members of the Senate and of the House due to many minor parties believing that Presidential appointment to the Council of the Republic could be biased in favor of the President. If the referendum passes, the election for the Council of the Republic will take place on February 1st, the same day as the election of Governors and State Legislatures.

That is all for now. Thank you for joining us here.

NewsHour: Jacksonville

Good evening North Pacific. This is Dima Volyonin bringing you the nightly news from Jacksonville.

Our first story is breaking news story now developing out of Nichegrad. We have just received word from the Minister of Defense that a train that was in route to Nichegrad was attacked by what is suspected as radical terrorist. They stated that the attack occurred from the inside of the train, meaning that they had already been on board before the train departed the East Jacksonville train station. The Jacksonville National Gendarmerie Intervention Group, which is the Army special forces, was reported to be en route to the train by helicopter. The first units of the force were spotted landing by helicopter outside the city. We do not have a motive at the current time, but the Chairman of the Council of the Republic believes that the attack could be occurring due to the upcoming National Assembly election. We will bring you news as soon as we can.

Christmas is just a few hours away now and people all across the country are ready for it and it even seems like it will be a white Christmas here in Jacksonville. While children are getting in bed, they will wake up to a surprise tomorrow as snow has been falling all day long and it started sticking around 5pm Jacksonville Standard Time. The temperature in East Jacksonville City is -15 and there are projections of nearly 5 feet of snow. In the North, the city of Nassau has been completely paralyzed as over 6 feet of snow has fallen. The army has equipped tanks with snow shoveling equipment so that they can clear out the snow in the city. A ski town up in the far north named Kranjska Gora is completely paralyzed and even the airfield is out of service, which will make it hard for any electoral commissioner to get there unless the temperature warms or snow plows can get there.

Our final story, the newly appointed Treasurer of Jacksonville, Aliaksandr Byerkov, approved of the sale of 20 Su-34's to the Imperial Republic of Goyanes and approved the buying of 20 A-10's from the Imperial Republic of Goyanes. The Minister told reporters during a press conference, "We believe in the fullest that the deal that we have reached will help us create better ties to our allies in Goyanes. We hope that they will get good use out of their new aircraft as we hope we will get good use out of theirs." The delivery to the Imperial Air Force of Goyanes is expected to begin on January 15th.

Prime Minister Ian Colby and his motorcade hit the decks in the capital of Navaronia, Abberary–this Sunday. Mister Colby had declared his visit to Navaronia on the intent of improving Aenara's foreign relations with a not-so foreign northern neighbor, whose mutual ties extend way back in time immemorial. Although Navaronia had split from the crown many many years ago, Prime Minister Colby stated in all honesty that there is no better friend Navaronia will have other than Aenara, and that the converse holds true. Today, Mister Colby gave his public speech to the Navaronian gathering in the capital while the media, journalists, and the citizens listened in. The capital of Abberary was modest in appearance, but boasted and roared the feel of modern architecture, with traces of Syrixian influence from Navaronia's colonial days.

Ian Colby: "I have come here today, with the suggestion that..."

Ian Colby: "A common currency would be in our best interest."

ELECTORAL COMMISSION RELEASES RESULTS OF EQUITARIAN ELECTION

Four days after Equitiar went to the polls, the electoral commission finally has a definitive answer as to who we have elected to lead our country. With more voters than ever before in Equitiar's history, it’s taken an unexpectedly short time to count the votes- a feat achieved with the help of implementation of electronic ballot scanners in the far north. As voters will know, this year’s election was for the Representative House, and will determine the country’s stance on both domestic and foreign policy.

All three ideologies have been adequately represented this election, although there is an especially strong presence from progressive parties – a distinct turn-around from their crushing defeat in the last election. Parties identifying as right-wing have won 31% of seats, centrist parties have claimed 32%, and left-wing 37%. The three largest parties from each are the Nationalist Party (Right), Moderate Party (Centrist), and Progressive Party (Left). The Progressive party is expected to draw the most in-parliament support for its policies and gain Prime Ministership of Equitiar.

The newly-elected representatives will vote on policy similarity tomorrow, and parties are currently discussing what their best courses of action will be. Results will be released tomorrow afternoon, and the official handover of governance is due take place next week.

Capital City Named!

By: Sydney Newells

In a recent declaration by Henry Milton, Zelgathon has officially named its capital city as Yaragar. Yaragar is a thriving city in Zelgathon, renown for its harmonious coexistence with nature, retail sector, culture, and beautiful ocean view. It is currently the largest city in Zelgathon with a population of around 7.2 million, only having recently eclipsed Zelgathon City (6.9 mil), the unofficial capital until now. While Yaragar was selected for these reasons it also was chosen for its strategic importance as well. Diplomats often entered through Yaragar and held embassies there. Its also one of the most popular locations in Zelgathon and lies in a location that is economically beneficial, lying alongside the Janu river while also being a port city. A massive festival is scheduled soon to celebrate this proclamation as Zelgathon marches into a prosperous age!
