Amid the dangers of unregulated shipping that persists in the body of water to the west of Cogoria, known to many nations as the Phoenix strait, the great First People's Empire has decided that such reckless abandonment of the brave seafarers who ply their trade upon the waves cannot continue. As one of the leading nations in maratime safety, the FPEC has taken it upon itself the burden of regulating sea traffic entering the strait. Within time the FPEC envisages a traffic regulation scheme spanning the region, even if it means taking the responsibility of the entire strait into our great nation's care. With this announcement the Cogorian Shipping Bureau has published the first of many shipping regulatory documents in the hopes of bringing the abysmal international shipping standard to our certified level of excellence. These documents and works are being named the Preservation Of Lives On the Sea, or POLOS. The first documents shall be the required navigational information with updated Mercator charts indicating the Traffic Separation Scheme established on the Northern mouth along with radiographical communication details for the reporting zone required for the usage of the TSS and penalties outlined for contravention of these regulations. The Cogorian transport ministry shall be hosting and event in the City of Lupagrad open to representatives of any nation wishing to learn and bring their shipping to an acceptable standard. it is our fervent wish that through such cooperation that intentional hegemony upon the waves in terms of standards may be achieved and greater safety for all vessels and those that crew them may come as a result.

The Calgarian Militiamen (Hockey) player, Gorben Orlan, has come out of the hospital, met with cheering fans. He said he did not know if he'd be well enough to play in the season for a while, but he was sure he'd be back before playoffs in some months.

Meanwhile, in Senneran, preparations are being finished for the Kanadian Oktoberfest! The event takes place from September 29th to October 15th, and many people are flocking to celebrate the alcohol and food fueled event. Queen Grace III believes she will be attending the early part of the celebration, but with her pregnancy coming to a close, she may need to leave the event halfway.

"God Naktmiddag, or Good Afternoon, to our non-Goyanean viewers, this is GTK Newshour. I am Jon Straffer, and here are today's top stories.

Transport and Communications Minister Levi Meyer will be travelling to Lupagrad, Cogoria next week to attend their POLOS program conference in the hopes to enhance the safety of maritime activities in the world's oceans.

Jon Norberg will be also traveling out of the country, going on a tour of southern Iteria, visiting Iraelia, Ascalon, and Skanda. In his visit to Iraelia he will sign several new agreements with the Iraelian and Ascalonian government to strengthen ties with the nation.

Oktoberfest starts this Friday, September 30th, in various cities and towns around Goyanes. It will run for two continuous weeks, and most larger celebrations will have beer and wine festivals, traveling funfairs, and general merchandise vendors. This staple of Goyanean culture has been around for over 200 years, and it seems like it isn't going to end.

5 Delinquent Teenagers Arrested After Faking a Sarin Attack on the Gojannesstad U-Baner
By: Sven Hanforten
October 11, 2017

yYvMX7W.jpg

Passengers wait at one of the platforms at Øst Toghass for a B-train that was delayed 3 hours due to Wednesday's incident.
Gojannesstad's rush hour came to a halt today as a group of 5 delinquents, aged 14-17, laid down several unattended bags at Øst Toghass station. Upon closer inspection of the bag by a police officer, he noted that the bags were filled with clear bags containing a clear liquid, and that they were labeled "sarin". The police ordered the busiest station on the U-baner network evacuated, as well as several other large stations on not just the U-baner network, but the S-baner and the GJ Mainline stations as well. As chemical response teams arrived to the scene on the northbound E-train platform at Øst Toghass, it was discovered that the liquid inside the pouches was actually water. As other main stations were found clear, and services returned to normal, the police began their search for the culprits.

Using CCTV cameras located in around the station, as well as in surrounding businesses, the police were able to track down the gang of 5 to a small, run down café only 3 stops down the line on the E-train route, at Stor Stadplats station. They were arrested on the spot, and are now facing severe criminal penalties for their actions.

A spokeswoman from the Gojannesstad Department of Transportation stated in a speech around lunchtime that "the U-baner may have to bring back the x-ray scanners and metal detectors used in the weeks immediately following the attacks that occurred on the Modergen line about 5 months ago." Such changes could cause major congestion in the concourses leading to the platforms at most stations in rush hour, and could seriously slow down commute times for most public transport users in Gojannesstad.

The GNP is continuing to remind everyone that if they spot suspicious activity or items, to report it. The commander for Gojannesstad GNP District 1 said "Without people calling in to report this we may have had a more pressing issue on hand." After the incident was handled and the stations opened up, there was an unprecedented passenger volume due to the service back up during the height of rush hour that lasted a whole 3 hours.

Today in the news, as the Oktoberfest celebration comes to a close, the future heir to the Kanadian and Malorian thrones is born! Queen Grace was rushed away from celebrations earlier today, taken to the Senneranian Central Hospital, where the birth was a clean success! The adorable boy was named Alexander, after the current monarch of Maloria. Him and his parents will be attending overnight at the hospital before returning to Kalgary.

Next in the news, after the uprising in Sundeon, all Sundeonian-born Parliament members have been removed and are to be investigated for any involvement in the revolt. For any that are removed, new people will be voted in from the other provinces.

Finally, one of the four Kanadian aircraft carriers has retired from service. The RKS Snowcapped, built in 1976, was the first Kanadian built aircraft carriers after the Fascist Wars. It has served us well, and will now remain in the Kalgary Harbor as a museum.

That's all the major news for today, thanks for watching.

Train Derailment Disaster In Levancourt
Anne Tessaix
October 15th, 2017

BREAKING: Disaster struck the small town of Levancourt in the province of Soult sometime around 12:30 local time last night. Reports from regional police indicate that a train carrying crude oil derailed for unknown reasons while passing through a largely residential part of the town. Authorities believe a resulting fire quickly caused at least several of the crude oil carrying train cars to explode. Severe destruction and large fires are reported in a nearly 1 kilometer radius from the site of the explosion.

Fire crews from Levancourt and neighbouring towns continue to fight the flames throughout a significant portion of the town this morning while the death toll stands at 36 while another 28 persons were considered missing. The Maire of Levancourt, Michel Devan, confirmed that this number is likely to rise as the fire is increasingly extinguished and damage analysis continues within his town. Gouverneur Phillippe Vaganay also announced that provincial resources were being deployed to assist in relief efforts.

This disaster has the potential to be one of the deadliest rail incidents in Lancerian history and certainly the worst since the 1934 Mont-Lac Express derailment that killed 41 people and injured 79 others.

This article will be updated with further information as it becomes available.

But things are starting to look up for the beleaguered Crown forces holding the tide.

"We're standing here just on the outskirts of Epiris behind me you can see the devastation from a distance. Fires and smoke billow skyward throughout the city, you can hear the sheer ferocity of the fighting within the city from here, this is the 8th night of the siege and the Red Laurel forces don't seem to be letting up on the tired hold outs. Not all is lost because in the sky we have found friends in the Royal Prydania Air force! The RPAF have already strafed the ground several times, on what we currently don't know, but it has to be a welcome sight for the troops in town."

Distant loud honks from trucks signal vehicles coming, a moment passes as NAF troop transports and tanks start rolling past in front of the camera towards Epiris in a massive convoy, the troops on the transports saluting; holding their guns in the air and waving the UKTN tri colors, some cheering and waving at the news casters.

Hello this is Georgy Pavlov and you are watching Maloria Today.

Today in Maloria after the PU meeting that occurred about the Cogorian and Dorsettian conflict in the strait Markos Sokolov, the lead representative to the PU had this to say about his being silenced at the end of the meeting about Arrandal.

“I find it revolting and appalling that the GPO of the PU is more concerned about bending over for Cogoria than helping the millions in need in the Kingdom Arrandal. I didn’t know that the the PU’s duty was to be appeasing foreign powers over their own members. Now Mrs. Allen has said that I am on a warpath, now tell me does being on a warpath mean that you want to help millions of people who are suffering after a brutal civil war that has killed millions of their own people and maimed everything to do with it. I think not. Now what is more important, leaving a nation alone that has had a very violent and aggressive past towards its neighbors or feeding the starving children of Arrandal who have lost fathers and many members of their family to their terrible civil war? I think the latter is but apparently Sil Dorsett and Mrs. Allen disagrees with this. Now I was selected for my position because of my understanding of diplomacy but the ways of breaking our backs for a nation that hates everything we stand for is foreign to me, almost as foreign as abandoning our allies in their times of need.

So I tell you Mrs. Allen that you can answer to the people of Arrandal when they find out the aid they desperately need was shut down so you could appease the hostile nation of Cogoria. So I ask you one thing, when will you stop being a tyrant who shuts down other people’s opinions whenever they don’t benefit Sil Dorsett and when will you stop being a weak willed appeaser to nations that are not relevant to our union?”

That was all Markos had to say and if any more news comes out on the matter we will be the first to let you know. Thank you for watching Maloria Today this has been Georgy Pavlov now signing off.

Through interrogation, 8 out of the 42 former Sundeonian Parliament members were found to be supportive through either funds or physical involvement. They've all recieved individual punishments for treason against the crown. Also, it has been decided that new Parliament members will not be voted in, and the current 72 members will be the new maximum amount.

Also, temporarily, Sundeonian people may no longer join the armed forces. It isn't known when they will be allowed again, but the Prime Minister claims they will be able to by New Year's Eve.

2,000 soldiers have been sent to patrol in major Sundeonian population centers to keep order and put down any other uprising quickly and efficiently.

Breaking news has happened tonight as statement from the Secretary of Defense has sent the nation into shock waves. You’re watching Georgy Pavlov on Maloria Today.

Tonight all of Maloria was stunned as the Secretary of Defense, Kirilov Makar has announced that a military intervention of 48,000 soldiers will take place in the Kingdom of Thedric Nors against the communist rebels that have been fighting the royalist government for several years now. Not only will we be sending soldiers to the bordering Kingdom, we will also be donating 800 million Draaks to the royalist government for their own use. Alongside all of this Maloria will be giving the royalists oil, equipment, and ammunition as well. Now you maybe asking when all of this will be happening, well the soldiers are said to be deployed on this coming Friday while the rest of the aid is said to start being delivered to Thedric Nors immediately.

That is all we have for you on the subject right now but we will keep all of you updated. Thank you for watching this has been Georgy Pavlov on Maloria Today.

A young man sits behind the news desk "Hello and welcome to People's Voice. Earlier today the minister for foreign affairs Barishnikov called a meeting of the press, we go now to the press office in the Lupagrad Temporary Governmental Offices"

The image transitions to a small room with a podium at the top, in the room are the representatives of the main Cogorian news agencies, behind the podium the minister himself. "People of Cogoria and the world. Time and again, in the last few months, we have seen the Phoenix Union claim no responsibility for the actions of their, at the time, member state Scallendovia. Saying they broke the rules of Article 4 of their own constitution. Scallendovia was then ejected as it became apparent that the world was against them. They claimed it was nothing but a failure of their vetting process and therefore not an indicator of the Union's attitude as a whole. As we have seen by recent events, these were blatant lies in an attempt to save pride in the face of the mounting international opposition to their unspoken policies. The Empire of Maloria has declared war on the sovereign state of the People's Republic of Nors, and seek to topple the legitimate government which is supported by the majority. They seek to prop up an unpopular imperialist family, a relic that has been denounced by their enslaved subjects, guilty of crimes against humanity and the basic principals of dignity. As such, in order to avoid another imperialist excursion by the Union, to preserve the stability and peace in the region, the First People's Empire of Cogoria hereby offer unlimited material support, along with military training personnel and advisers. I encourage all workers of the world to support the legitimate government and not bow before the imperialist machine that seeks to deprive the workers of Eras of their dignity and their voice. We plead with the workers of Eras to take up arms in this righteous cause, and to lead by example, Cogoria shall not restrict or punish any Cogorian citizen who wish to voluntarily travel and joint he armed forces of the People's republic of Nors. While we will not join the Nors in arms as a nation, we will not restrict our brave citizens from joining them as people. Thank you". As the minister walks away from the podium the image fades to the flag of the FPEC flying from the pole outside the venue

The Kalgarian Bulletin
Today in the news, 24 people in the Kalgarian parliament building have been killed, including 13 Parliament members, 10 guards, and 1 civilian. It has been discovered after short interrogations that the group who did it were 7 seniors of the College of Fort Sean. A few admitted to have been part of the revolt happening a short while ago.

What happened was this: The group forced their way in, not stealthily at all. Killing all the guards by the door, they entered and began to shoot wildly in the large room. Dozens were injured and a few were shot dead. Eventually the police and armed forces arrived on the scene, and managed to arrest and take down the culprits with no losses. They are to be put to court for their crimes, and we will report on what the aftermath is later.

Todays headline, Insurgents wage war from the underground throughout the broken city of Rodier in Central Nors.

This is Rachel Alarie reporting today for NAB News. Sparse fighting has broken out throughout the streets of Rodier as insurgents purportedly loyal to the crown fight to free their ravaged city from the Grips of the 'Peoples Republic' The fighting is reported to be fast, brutal, and ends just as quick as it starts. so far the death toll and damage to property is unknown we will bring it to you at the earliest opportunity! it is currently unknown just how the Red Laurel forces will respond to these attacks.

we here at NAB News got a particular treat when we received a recording for us to play, we've gone through it and deemed it to be okay for public viewing. We go now to this recording.

A tall man appears, wearing a mask to protect his identity, behind him is the UKTN flag and two other fighters he begins speaking.
"Because of this war the city of Rodier has suffered greatly, it is a husk of its former self. Since the Red Laurel Party seized control of the city it has only gotten worse. The people of Rodier have suffered long enough, the Peoples party promised us everything we wanted to hear, and we bought into it. We were foolish and desperate, only now when it was too late did we realize these promises were false.

The Peoples party is not for the people, it is a facade to take power for themselves, they are nothing new.. They simply seek to trade one Tyrant for a whole group of tyrants. We say NO! Under Queen Elli and her predecessors we have suffered. but in Queen Alycia we have yet to see the demon the party makes her out to be. We do not believe in the profiling of the Party. We will judge Queen Alycia by her actions, not by what she is. We will fight for true freedom and true change, and as far as we can see. That change comes with Queen Alycia and the reforms she has already pushed.

Under the party we have been left wanting, worrying when we may next see food.. In a nation where the countrysides are mostly agrarian.. The west starves while the east suffers not for want. Not even King Wilfrid II was this Negligent to the West. the Party must fall. and Those that would support the Party should be known as enablers of these crimes."

Celebrations have erupted across Iraelia as Lutherans of Skandan and Gojan descent celebrate the Reformation. On this day, 500 years ago, Markus Luthersson initiated the reformation of the Ceretian Rite Messianist Church. His bold actions have reverberated throughout history and have done much to expose the corrupt practices of the old Rite Church, prompting many of the forms that would make the modern day Ceretian Rite. For these Lutherans, it is both a religious and an ethnic celebration, celebrating their heritage and the life of the Great Reformer. And Lutherans weren't the only ones to celebrate, Shophet Yarom ben Isai, current leader of the Shaddaist religion, attended the festivities and making a speech in front of the crowd. In it, he extended a hand of friendship to his Lutheran brothers and invited all to join in the festivities. Celebrations are expected to cease around 3 AM tomorrow morning. We will keep you posted as this story develops.

The Riksdag watches on as Grand Emperor Anthony issues the imperial assent for the FY2018 Budget Resolution.

GOJANNESSTAD-- The Landesdag passed the FY2018 budget resolution today, maintaining mostly the same statistical figures from the FY2017 edition. The bill passed through the Stortinget 269-69, and the bill passed through the Riksdag as well 87-31. The bill passed both houses last night, and this morning the Landesdag was convened for Grand Emperor Anthony's imperial assent ceremony.

The budget remains largely the same, with Defense getting 17.5%, Education getting 15.3%, Environmental Protection and Maintenance getting 4.4%, Healthcare getting 9.9%, Industrial subsidies getting 3.3%, Law and Order getting 8.7%, Transportation and Infrastructure getting 12.9%, Welfare getting 19.9%, International Aid getting 1.1%, and Administration and Other getting 7%.

The largest group of opposition came from the Liberal Democratic Party, however around half of their Landesdag members voted yes on the bill along with the governing National Union Party.

Alstenbek
The Hastfradic League

Multiple arrests were made today in the Ulsteraernhalm province of Alstenbek today as part of a crackdown on antigovernment insurgency which has racked the region over the last few decades. A statement from the local police has put the number of arrests at forty five in total, thirteen of which were local government officials as evidence came to light that they'd been providing financial aid and legal protection to known members of the Sons of Caerwent terrorist organization. The Sons of Caerwent were responsible for the 2009 bombing of a hospital in Nalgorhaem which killed thirty four people. It is still unknown if any of the other arrests were linked to the organization or not, though there has been speculation that some were Aernish Seperatists, and may have been leaders of the Aernish Free State Resistance.

[OOC: Due to some technical problems Cogoria is suffering, this LNT post skips ahead to the end of the Solidarity thread, which I discussed with him over Discord DMs.]

This is a Lodestar News special report.

Good evening, this is Todd Ditzler from Lodestar News bringing breaking news out of Norvalle. Prime Minister Madeline Ellison has called a snap press conference to address the nation on recent international incidents and the protests that have swept the country. Let's go to the feed.

Press conference speech from Prime Minister Madeline Ellison:
Thank you. Fellow citizens, I wanted to take a moment to update the public on some of the issues the government has been handling recently, primarily related to international affairs.

As you all know, an incident occurred in international waters near Xentherida and Cogoria where our flagship, the SDS Solidarity, was intercepted by two Cogorian aircraft. Additionally, there were reports that the Cogorian military was performing training exercises using Phoenix Union-flagged dummy targets. This lead to great concern amongst the public over whether our continued membership in the Phoenix Union was now yielding increased risk rather than security, which resulted in widespread protests across the nation. Our response was to exercise our position as GPO of the Phoenix Union to pressure it into issuing a statement condemning the attacks on Oktobergrad and seeking reconciliation with the FPEC. Once the statement was secured, our ambassador to the Phoenix Union, Miss Malorie Allen, along with Foreign Affairs Minister Will Bowers and Princess Alice herself, traveled to Cogoria as part of an outreach effort. Our team returned home safely and was recently debriefed, and I thank the Cogorian government for the hospitality that was given to our diplomats.

The mission was only a partial success. The FPEC has made it very clear that provocations by Phoenix Union members against it and its interests will not be tolerated, and that the military exercises will continue. However, we have reached the point where as long as we do not engage in any hostile acts against the FPEC, we have nothing to fear. In light of that, I will make it clear that we will not accept belligerence in either direction. If the other nations of the Phoenix Union commit acts of strongarming and imperialism, we will not hesitate to walk away from it, as we, a country of only 3.5 million, gain nothing from such actions.

Upon her return from Cogoria, Miss Allen notified the Regency Council of her intent to resign as Ambassador to the Phoenix Union, which we accepted. We have appointed former IAN ambassador Regis Giquel to replace her for the remainder of the GPO term, and we do intend to find a new position for Miss Allen. Upon consultation with Ambassador Giquel, we have decided to adjust our policy on interactions with the Phoenix Union at parliament sessions. From now on, we will not participate in debates regarding affairs outside of the union, and we will abstain from such votes. Our focus will be entirely on internal matters. Also, Mr. Giquel intends to act only to maintain procedural order during sessions until the conclusion of the term. Upon the term's end, we will not pursue the GPO position again.

Continuing on the topic of international relations, we have received notice of an invitation from the Trillium Compact to join as a Stella Signatory. This measure is currently being reviewed by the Regency Council, having passed in Parliament. It is likely we will accept the invitation, but we must first work out potentially conflicting collective defense agreements between the compact and the Phoenix Union, and decide on a representative. It may be that the aforementioned Miss Allen be given that responsibility if she desires it, though we certainly understand if international relations are too taxing for her at the moment.

Moving on... Also having returned from Cogoria, Princess Alice has submitted a notice of temporary incapacity. She mentioned that being witness to the death and destruction that Scallendovia's Kayus Emmanuel wreaked upon Oktobergrad was unsettling and emotionally distressing, and she feels mentally unfit to continue with her royal duties for the time being. Pursuant to regulations included in the Regency Council Decree of 2017, Alice's responsibilities are hereby transferred to Dowager Baroness Marianne Covington, being next in line to the crown and of majority age, for the duration of Princess Alice's disability, which will be reviewed every two weeks.

Finally, regarding the previously mentioned protests that have swept the streets of the nation, I want our people to know that your voices are heard, and you have every right to make your grievances known. So long as there is no outbreak of violence resulting in harm or death to your fellow countrymen and women, you will find that the forum is open to you. The police have been instructed only to intervene when peoples' lives are in imminent danger or if property is threatened.

That is all. Thank you, and good night.

OFFICIAL WORLDWIDE COMMUNICATIONS FROM THE MINISTRY OF FOREIGN AFFAIRS

Diplomatic Relations - Domestic and Abroad

After nearly seven-hundred years of colonial rule, the Most Glorious Principality dares to reach for the international stage once again! Diplomats from the Most Noble Houses of Yuki and Asukara, in conjunction with the Noble Houses of Yashimoto, Abunai, and Zetsu, have begun formal diplomatic relations with the following countries:

- Thederic Nors
- Prydania
- Ascalon
- Ceretis
- Kaandar

In addition to pursuing diplomatic relations with the above, the Crown Princess, Veronica Yuki, has recently begun meeting with officials of the nation of Iraelia. The purpose of the meeting was to discuss the pursuance of diplomatic relations both in pertinence to the Iterian League, and the country itself.

In relation to Ceretis, Kaandar, and Thederic Nors, under the new Committee of Foreign Unvetted Cultural Comingling (FUCC), Ministers and ministerial officials will begin the process extreme vetting. This vetting will analyze all aspects of their values in pertinence to civil, political, and cultural matters. Once the meta-data has been collected, this data will then be compared to our own, in order to ascertain how similar their cultural values are to our own. If the countries are within a certain degree of similarity, the Imperial Court will begin to consider the possibility of commercial traveling to and from these countries in pertinence to the Retainer-estate.

Militaristic Affairs

After over a decade of construction, the shipyards at Southern Nioki has finally finished the first IYGN Seta-class aircraft carrier. Christened The Helios Eternum, the aircraft carrier will begin its service testing and will become fully-operational by the year 2020. At the ceremony, Empress Kirin Yuki, accompanied by her Sister Regent, Orochi Aizo, said,

"Today marks the end of seven-hundred years of colonial rulership! Today, the Principality begins again to walk in solidarity with the rest of the world, towards fate manifest by its own hand! Today, we know no master but ourselves! Hail to the Principality! Hail to our Unity! All hail gloriously!"

In addition, the IYGN has dispatched a naval battlegroup lead by the helicopter carrier, The Imperial Fist, on a humanitarian mission to Thederic Nors. The battlegroup is composed of two destroyers, two frigates, a cruiser, and two support ships. A submarine is reportedly also shadowing the battlegroup.

The battlegroup will dock at the port of Haland, Prydania, where the troops and materials will be offloaded onto land transports and moved across the Prydanian-Thederic Nors border to the outskirts of the city of Edennes. In Edennes, the Imperial Yukkirian Guard will proceed to establish a Safe Zone, a demilitarized safehaven for native Thederic Norsian citizens to escape not only the constant fighting but also to recieve medical attention, food rations, and return to a semblance of law and order per Yukkirian Foreign Regulations and Guidelines.

A supply line will be established between Haland and the major port-Capitol of Seta.

Domestic Affairs

In other news, the Retainer-estate will be gaining a new but limited freedom; freedom of speech. The Office for Criticism by Retainer-Affiliated Persons (OCRAP) will hereby censor all published articles, digital and otherwise, for rightful criticism of the Imperial Court, the Regency, and the Megacorporations. Retainers estatically were seen talking about the new law.

This report has been sanctioned by the office of the High Minister of Foreign Affairs

Thank you for tuning into AHK1, I’m Mihoko Oponui, and today we have breaking news in Kul Nai Kosua. There’s been a shootout in a warehouse in Port Dan’yo, between the two rival Umaiha syndicates of Kosua, the Ge’moa Koa’ni and the Yahea. It’s one of the largest so far, and the police were unable to intervene until later in the shootout due to a diversion created by one of the Umaiha syndicates. 23 Yahea members were killed, 14 Ge’moa Koa’ni members were killed, and roughly 20 more from both sides were injured. 2 civilians were killed during the shootout and an additional 5 were injured. The police found pistols, automatic assault rifles, and submachine guns on the scene, but are currently baffled as to how they found themselves in the hands of the Umaiha. It is believed to have been an ambush set up by the Ge’moa Koa’ni to take out one of the Yahea “Ko’jei”, or lieutenant. The plan seems to have been a success for the Ge’moa Koa’ni as the known Yahea Ko’jei Rai Akuini was found dead at the crime scene. This is all we have on the situation at the moment, we’ll update you on any future discoveries. Thanks for watching AHK1, and alo'a na'me ke'ima! Politics: Knesset votes in favor of National School Voucher Act
By: Shabadras Akhtar

Members of the Knesset cast votes on the School Voucher Act

After two years of amendments, revisions, and committee hearings, Feldshuh's primary promise in regards to education, the National School Voucher Act, has passed the Knesset and amendments to the legal code have been made.

The act, which passed the Knesset 127-73, withdraws a portion of funding to the Iraelian National School System to be dedicated to a school voucher system. Within this system, economically disadvantaged students shall receive a stipend from the government with which they may seek and pay tuition for a private school system. This policy was a staple of the Feldshuh campaign in 2015 and was the first piece of legislation introduced to this session of the Knesset. The legislation underwent numerous amendments and was forestalled by Feldshuh's death, but was maintained by sitting Minister of Education, Sarit Lernar, who co-authored the legislation. The full effects of the act shall take effect upon the beginning of Fiscal Year 2020 and shall have a renewal date of Fiscal Year 2030. The Ministry of Education has already begun trial releases in the most impoverished communities of former Shaiva.

Yamesh praised the legislation, stating, "It is a wonderful method by which we can subsidize the consumer and bridge the class divide between the rich and poor. As a child, this program would have been a miracle for my community, and all impoverished communities throughout this nation." Even Leader of the Opposition Taneli Gadi has stated her support for the bill, applauding it as a bipartisan reform to our educational system that does seek to alleviate the problems that exist within Iraelia today.

Gadi's Labour and Worker's Party colleagues were not as welcoming. Member of the Knesset and Chairman of the Worker's Party, Arni Yeshir viciously attacked the act as a capitalist ploy. "This is nothing but a thinly veiled attempt to increase the class divide and turn the lower and middle class against itself. This is far from bipartisan reform, it's Conservatism 101." The Labor Party Chairman, while not as scathing, denounced the defunding of the existing public school system instead of seeking to solve it's problems and flaws.

In spite of it's weight, the impacts of this bill will not be known until the trial programs are concluded by the end of this year.

News: Yamesh to attend conference at Saito

Yamesh addresses media about Saito conference

Upon the change in Skandan government after the actions of the newly chosen Premier, Misaka Tawanoa, Yamesh shall attend a conference in Saito to establish the new diplomatic relations between the two powers. At these talks, Yamesh and Tawanoa will discuss recent drama between the two nations, Skanda's new relations towards the Iterian League, and the creation of a diplomatic neutral ground between Skanda and Iraelia where they can meet to discuss relations between the two.

Skanda recently transitioned from a republican system to a communist state when then President Misaka Tawanoa dissolved the parliament, and, soon thereafter announced the creation of the Democratic People's Republic. The decision sent shock waves throughout the continent, hearkening back to the Socialist Republic of Skanda and the horrors of the Iterian War. Many nations, Iraelia and Kaandar in particular, are very loathe to see a communist power arise in Iteria due to the recent resurgence of communism led by Cogoria. This conference may very well shape the diplomatic landscape of the continent.

Yamesh was very clear in outlining his priorities for this conference, "The national security of Iraelia is my primary concern at this conference, and we as a nation must not let our guard down. That being said, Skanda is one of our largest trading partners and an essential pillar of the Iterian League. We must tow a fine line between ensuring continued economic and political cooperation and maintaining Iraelia's national security interests, and this will be the primary challenge of this meeting." His move was widely praised by the Opposition, specifically members of the Civic-Democratic Union, Liberal, and Labour parties.

Yamesh faced significant opposition from within his own Government, with Chairman of the National front Addai Abimelech stating that Yamesh is "weak" and "unfit to negotiate". An official statement released from the National Front condemned Yamesh's statement, calling for the severing of all diplomatic ties with the new governments and for sanctions to be put in place. Some Nationalist MKs have even suggested that Skanda be removed from the Iterian League, however these calls have been largely ignored by the governing Conservative Party.

Yamesh is set to arrive in Saito on this Sunday.

Tzufit Feldshuh in the Bari Desert whilst serving as a Marshal during the Iterian War alongside several Syrixian soldiers

My fellow countrymen, it has been several months since the former Iraelian Prime Minister and War Hero, Tzufit Feldshuh, has passed. His death rocked the world, his last words haunting all those in attendance of his fatal heart attack. So in honor of this profound man, we here at The Adonai-Jireh Times found it imperative to analyze his life and the contributions he made to this great state.

Feldshuh first entered the service of his nation following the conclusion of the Fascist Wars. Iraelia was a fledgling state with a small ally to the south in the newly formed Free Republic of the Bari, and so it was natural that national armament must occur. The Iraelian State rapidly began research into weapons development and sought to rapidly increase it's military size. This drew the attention of a wide eyed Yihuddian boy who, in 1961, joined the armed forces. He quickly rose through the ranks and achieved a post as a Marshal shortly before the outbreak of the Iterian War. During this conflict, Feldshuh tested his metal and served as the spiritual successor to Reuhen Adaret, who had since retired and served the nation as Minister of Defense. He was responsible for many a successful battle during the war and was party to the conference that would ratify the treaty closing the war. Feldshuh was crucial to all events transpiring during this period.

Following the war, Feldshuh sought a place in the Knesset. Here too, he easily excelled. He serve as Minister of Finance, Foreign Affairs, and Prime Minister starting in 1980. It is here he shaped Iraelia as we know today. He, with the advice of famed Iraelian economist Nator Avil, established the Iraelian Negative Income Tax system as an alternative for traditional welfare within the nation. This system has become so influential that it remains today as Iraelia's primary form of welfare. He also introduced fiscal reform, successfully passing a Balanced Budget Amendment to the constitution. However, his downfall came after a scandal involving several of his cabinet ministers and the abuse of Skandan prisoners. This caused the Liberal-Labour Coalition to win the 1985 election and Feldshuh to step down as Chairman of the Conservative Party in 1990.

In retirement, Feldshuh did not stand idle. He established his own legal practice and provided counsel to several court cases before the Iraelian Supreme Court. However, in 2015, Feldshuh decided to re-enter the political scene upon the request of his good friend Avrohom Kadish, Chairman of the Republican Party. Together, they were able to pull together a governing coalition led by Kadish as President and Feldshuh as Prime Minister. Even during his short two year term, he managed to lay the groundwork for the National School Voucher Act, a major overhaul to our nation's education system.

Be you a liberal, conservative, or a centrist, it is undeniable the effect he had on this nation and the place he held in many a heart.

Sports: Iraelian Rugby League pushes for international competition

The Iraelian National Rugby team poses for a photo after practice

Following the unprecedented success of the past season of the Iraelian National Rugby League, the League Commissioners have pushed for international competition. The League has reached out to Skanda, the Iterian League, and others in an attempt to spur the growth of international rugby matches.

This past season, the National Rugby League saw unprecedented profits and viewership this season as Iraelian love of rugby has grown. With such profits, the League has sought an aggressive national expansion by creating new stadiums, refurnishing team kits, and most prominently, seeking international competition. The League compiled, among it's players, an Iraelian National Rugby team, representing the best talent that Iraelia has to offer within the sport, with the express intent of engaging other nations in rugby.

The League has three major goals in mind when it comes to international competition. The first, a match against Skanda. Skanda and Iraelia have had a longstanding rivalry stemming from political disagreements and two major wars between the nations. League Commissioners have thus sought to pit the Iraelian team against the incredibly strong Skandan team and start a sports rivalry between the two. Next, an Iterian Rugby Union. Many nations throughout Iteria, including Kaandar, Iraelia, and Skanda, have some form of national level rugby within the nation. If this love of rugby continues, then it is very plausible that an Iterian Rugby Association may form in the coming years. Finally, an engagement between the Iraelian team and a team from another continent. If the League is able to stir popularity of the sport outside of Iraelia, they will be able to market games to an even larger audience for an even larger profit.

In spite of the daunting task, some of these goals are already becoming a reality. Upon being asked about the possibility of a match between Iraelia and Skanda, the coach of the Skandan National Rugby Team, Yoshio Iaukea, said, "It is definitely a possibility, my boys have been itching for a challenge for quite some time. Though I doubt you northerners would prove to be much of a threat." Nevertheless, nothing has been made official and any sporting competition between the to will most likely be put on hold until the Saito Conference concludes.

The National Rugby Team will most likely disband before the Rugby season starts this year to ensure the player may train with their respective teams.

Opinion: Stan Yera's actions against Thederic Nors are morally reprehensible
By: Batya bet Etiel
hSNaZDC.jpg

Grand General and Federal Premier of Stan Yera, Sfan Kter

Following a myriad of interventions within the nation of Thederic Nors, the Yeran government has taken the task of ensuring a level playing field into it's own hands and blockaded the nation. While it claims to do so to fight imperialism, the action does the opposite and only serves to show the moral bankruptcy of Sfan Kter.

The blockade began shortly after Maloria and Kanada marched into Thederic Nors to save the royal family, a line with direct familial ties to the ruling family of Maloria, the Severyns. In response, Cogoria announced it will be sending more troops within the nation to allow the syndicalists to hold out. In an attempt to stop this perceived imperialism, the Yeran government then began the blockade of the nation. This in and of itself reeks of moral bankruptcy and Yeran nihilism. By intervening, Sfan does nothing but uphold foreign influence and imperialism within the nation. Using it's military force to bully and strong arm weaker neighbors is textbook imperialism. The fact of the matter is that Stan Yera is no better then Cogoria, a communist imperialist nation. One that views every unstable government as a way to advance it's perverse ideology. I will not have it.

However, not only is it hypocritical, it is morally repugnant. The people of Thederic Nors are suffering and starving. They desperately need food to stay alive yet any shipment of food required to enter the nation has very little chance of making it past the blockade. If Stan Yera is really a government for the People, then why does it continue to cause suffering to the people of Thederic Nors? It makes no logical sense. If you want to punish the royals, then by all means punish the royals. But the peasants did not choose to become the playground of foreign influence, that was the monarchs.

Ultimately, if the Yerans really do stand for anything at all, they must withdraw their blockade. They must allow food to flow freely into Thederic Nors, they must remain neutral militarily so as to ensure no excess foreign influence is put on the nation, and they must rebuke all those nations that have gotten involved in the conflict, not the nation they claim to care about.

So Sfan, I beg and plead of you. End this blockade now for the greater good of Thederic Nors.

Politics: Suhail Soleyameni I disbands the Kaandari People's Government
By: Shabadras Akhtar

The House of Khasin convenes for a final time before being disbanded

Amid terrorist threats from around the nation, socialists gaining excessive power in the elected parliament, and insurgent groups taking hold within the nation, Shah Suhail Soleyameni II of Kaandar has disbanded the People's wing of the Kaandari Government.

The unpopular decision comes from the Shah after recent terrorist threats regarding the Crown Tower, headquarters of the Kaandari Crown Company. However, the decision has been months in the making. Armed rebels that call themselves Mehrabii's People's Army have taken hold of rural towns and villages in Kaandar and have actively been undermining the government. Their stated goal is the establish a Mehrabiist People's Republic in Kaandar, a far left ideology that combines tenets of socialism with fundamentalist Mehrabiist beliefs. The group was a splinter from the Popular Front, a socialist party within Kaandar and a third catalyst for the Shah's decision. After recent elections to the House of Khasin (commoners) the Liberal-Republican coaltions, an alliance of Republicans and Classical Liberals within Kaandar, have gained a super-majority large enough to overturn any overrule by the House of Nabal (nobles). However, they achieved this super-majority with a Supply and Confidence deal with the aforementioned Popular Front. With all of these factors threatening the traditional royal family of Kaandar, the Shah made his decision.

The group most outraged at this decision was the Liberal-Republican Coalition, whom have refused to cease their function. The Alrrayida of Kaandar, Saalih el-Alli, has recently returned to his city of Bagash and formed a Congress with the other members of the Liberal-Republican Coalition with the express purpose of petitioning the Shah to return power to the People of Kaandar. So far, the Shah has yet to recognize or even respond to the former Alrrayida. The Popular Front was disbanded upon the dissolution of the House of Khasin with many of it's members disappearing or returning to their constituencies. There are even unconfirmed reports that some have sought asylum in Skanda. Others are rumored to have joined the MPA. Several socialist MPs refused to leave the capital and sparked a protest that destroyed several blocks of public property within Kaandar, prompting the Shah to arrest and imprison them. They are currently awaiting trial in Madinat al-Muhrab.

The actions of the Shah have drawn the ire of the Iraelian government who are shocked and appalled by the suspension of democracy within Kaandar. Prime Minister Agastya Yamesh gave choice words to the Shah, stating, "The people of Kaandar cannot be ignored, regardless of national security. We implore you to call your House of Khasin immediately and work with the people to face the threat mounting in the countryside." In spite of his disapproval, Yamesh offered his support to the Kaandari government and offered to utilize Iraelian aerial strikes against the MPA. The Shah has yet to respond.

The ramifications of the Shah's decision are still unknown as this story unfolds.

News: Iterian League holds a Constitutional Convention

Iterian Directorate Chamber preparing for the Constitutional Convention

Upon a majority vote of the Iterian League Directorate, the representatives to the Iterian League shall convene for a Constitutional Convention to amend, improve upon, and replace the current Charter of the Iterian League.

The motion, which was sponsored and initiated by sitting Chairman to the Directorate Irad Yasur, was designed to solve what she perceived to be glaring issues that existed with the bare-bones system outlined in the 1980 Charter. The first was a body to coordinate efforts between League members. With the current system, the Iterian League does not have the ability to actually coordinate or carry out any decision of the Directorate because their simply isn't a body to do so. Another issue is the fact that there was no body to solve international disputes. The original charter didn't even outline a process to do so, meaning that no body within the League, not even the Directorate, could solve international disputes and rendering a key function of the Iterian League, maintaining the peace, unattainable in most instances. Finally, there was the issue of organization. Currently, all League legislation is a collection of directorate resolutions that all have very different outlines, goals, and organization. This has made the Iterian League very inefficient at evaluating past decisions. With this new constitution, it is hoped these issues will be fixed.

The only proposal that has been put forward thus far is a new constitution authored by Irad Yasur herself. It is designed to solve the three issues Yasur identified with the Charter by expanding the constitution to more articles. To deal with implementation, a Secretariat was created to ensure that policy coordination occurs between compliant League members in an orderly manner. To solve the issues of international disputes, there is now an Iterian Court which shall act as an unbiased organization for doing just that. Finally, the Yasur Proposal creates an organized system of Iterian laws called the Iterian Code, making it far easier to reference Iterian policy recommendations.

As of now, the only member to oppose any constitutional reform is Kazirstan as indicated by their nay vote on the motion for a constitutional convention. We have reached out the the Kazistani government but have yet to receive any word on their stance.

We will keep you posted as the constitutional convention unfolds.

Feature: The Kaandari Royal Family

Shah Suhail Soleyameni I of Kaandar holding court

Ever since the year 53 C.E., a Kaandari Shah bearing the name Soleyameni has ruled over our neighbor to the East. This man and his family live lives of extravagance, plenty, and tradition. But what exactly is it like to be a part of the Kaandari royal family? In this feature, we sought out to give a view to the average citizen about what the palace life of a Kaandari prince looks like.

First, we have the Shahanshah, that is the Shah. The Shah Suhail has numerous duties that he must fulfill during the day, so upon waking up he usually eats a quick breakfast alongside his family and immediately rushes to the House of Nabal. The upper house of Kaandar has historically been chaired primarily by the Shah himself, so it is of the utmost importance that the Shah attend all sessions to ensure parliamentary procedure is upheld. The sessions for the House of Nabal usually only last for the early part of a day, with the first major sessions beginning at 7 AM and the last major sessions closing at around 10 PM. The House of Nabal will convene only at the behest of the Shah, allowing him to have a little more flexibility to fulfill his other legal obligations. The next most important of which being the Crown Council. The Crown Council is the Shah's cabinet of ministers composed of certain members of the royal family and the House of Nabal and he is tasked with meeting with them to coordinate policy and receive advice. His third most important duty is running the state religion. Qadim Muhrabysm (literally translating to Grand/Old Mehrabiism) is led by the Shah and so he must routinely hold services at the Great Temple and communicate with his priests. The fourth and final job of the Shah is to make public appearances and conduct diplomacy. This is not a constant daily duty, but rather must occur intermittently depending on the Shah's schedule.

Next, we have the Shahbanu (his wife) and all of his children save for the Crown Prince. They have no formal obligations they must perform, but rather are expected to run charities and intermingle with the monarchs of other nations. Additionally, the Shahzadeh, sons of the Shah, are often expected to perform religious services intermittently at various temples throughout Kaandar. Finally, all those members of the royal family residing within the nation often serve on the Crown Council to help shape the policy of the Royal Government. Due to these limited duties, many members of the royal family often pursue hobbies in their free time.

Finally, we have the Crown Prince. As the heir apparent to the Shah, Hazhir VI has far more responsibilities then his siblings. He is required to serve as the Deputy Speaker of the House of Nabal and to serve as one of the most important advisers to the Shah. Additionally, they are required to be in attendance whenever the Shah hold court, officiates a religious ceremony, or is on an official diplomatic mission. Additionally, the Crown Prince is often assigned specific temporary responsibilities, such as leading a humanitarian aid mission, conducting business for the Kaandari Crown Company, or attending major events.

While the royal family may live within the lap of luxury, they do sacrifice at least a little to ensure the country runs in an orderly manner.

Sports: The Sarazed Agnistas trades star fullback to Adonai-Jireh Militiamen
By: Srijan Badikar

Ivrit Lehrer training during the previous season

This Friday, the Sarazed Agnistas traded their star fullback, Ivrit Lehrer, to the Adonai-Jireh Militiamen in exchange for their first round draft picks for the next two years.

After many deliberations between the two, the Adonai-Jireh Militiamen were able to acquire Ivrit Lehrer after promising the Sarazed Agnistas, whose new coach is looking to rebuild the team, two first round draft picks. The decisions was broken by the coaches of the respective teams who had just gotten out of lengthy negotiations within the headquarters of the Adonai-Jireh Militiamen in downtown Adonai-Jireh. The Militiamen, a team which is primed to win the National Championship this year, has lacked a decent fullback since 2007. As they have an aging team of stars including Fly-half Yonat ben Sheri and Centre Hamdaan al-Dar, it seemed only appropriate that they capitalize on the final two to five years of these stars by complimenting them with an amazing fullback.

The Militiamen were incredibly happy about the deal, with head coach Lehom Ter stating, "This deal will be amazing for all parties involved. We have a team of young back-ups itching to prove themselves on the benches, so we don't need those draft picks anymore then we need to replace our scrum half. The fact is that with Ivrit on the team, we will be unstoppable." The team also expressed their excitement to have Ivrit mentor rookie Scrumhalf Saacha Balhor, whom many analysts have called a sleeper who could take the League by storm in the coming years.

The Agnistas were equally as happy, with management releasing an online statement reading as follors: "We need to undergo massive restructuring, it is blatantly evident that the strategies of the past will no longer work in bringing us to the National Championship. Ivrit will always be loved as an honorary member of the Agnistas,
but we had to let him go in order to facilitate our internal changes. It is a new era here in Sarazed and with this new era shall come a myriad of rookie stars who will restore the glory of our Rugby team."

Ivrit shall begin practices with the Militiamen next Sunday, according to reports.

Opinion: Years of Avil-inspired Policy have failed
By: Semrajit al-Matan
OgtatRg.jpg

Picture of Nator Avil, former Chairman of Feldshuh's Economic Policy Comission

Despite what the Conservatives and Republicans would have you believe, years of limited government spending, deregulation, and the NIT program have done nothing but cut employment and left more and more citizens starving on city streets.

Firstly, we must evaluate Feldshuh Era deregulation. Nator Avil, in 1981, proposed a massive overhaul of environmental regulations on Iraelia businesses as a way to jump start economic growth. He claimed that they were only cutting non essential red tape, but this is far from the truth. Along the recommended cut regulations that were approved by the Knesset were a ban on the use of deforestation on mountainsides for the extraction of valuable metals, protections against the dumping of industrial substances into several Caanitic River Valley rivers, and the emission of deadly substances like Nitric Acid, a key component in acid rain. The consequences were evident immediately, as the Great Northern Forest was almost immediately bulldozed by Sarazed Atomics to help build a series of uranium mines.

Next, we may look at the Feldshuh tax cuts. In spite of what fanatic Avil sipporters may claim, the man was most definitely a corporatist. Evaluating the Feldshuh Era corporate tax reform, you will easily find that corporations were given generous deductions as they were able to easily write off improvements to corporate headquarters as local expenses, giving them massive tax breaks from the governmnet.

Finally, we need to address the NIT system. Believe it or not, you cannot overturn 60 different departments that perform 60 varied tasks overnight without expecting consequences, that is just ludicrous. In the first two years of the NIT system, we saw an increase in mortality among welfare recipients as the crippling bureaucratic weight of shifting the responsibilities of the entire Ministry of Welfare and Social Services destroyed any effective vessel by which we may have provided care to any of our nations citizens.

So, when discussing Nator Avil, we must remember that the policies he implemented only served to benefit the 1% of Iraelia while introducing mountains and mountains of strain upon our lower class who depend on our government for assistance.

Good evening! I'm Julia Rossmoyne, and thanks for joining us for tonight's edition of Norvalle News.

After two weeks away, Princess Alice announced the end of her measure of temporary incapacity, citing that the time away allowed her to reflect on the state of the world and the principality's place in it. This afternoon, she held a press conference with reporters who asked her various questions on her positions and whether they changed during the two weeks she was off. One reporter asked about her position on the Phoenix Union, in which she responded...
Alice Dorsett:
The matter of our membership I now believe should be up to the voters. Regarding the various measures seeking to remove us from the union, I will vote however the people of this nation want me to vote. In the past, I disregarded the opinions of the people in favor of my own agenda. That will no longer be the case.
Alice's remarks have led to speculation that a People's Referendum may be pursued to finally resolve the matter. Another reporter asked about the signing of the Trillium Compact that was done while her aunt Marianne Covington held her seat, and she responded that she was pleased with the council's decision, that the Trillium Compact represents the strongest assurance of peace and protection in the region, that she would have voted in the affirmative herself, and that she regretted not signing her own name on the bill.

In national news, Norvalle city police are investigating a case of money laundering from the royal account that took allegedly took place over several years during Prince Stéphane's reign. While no suspect has been publicly disclosed, police believe a minister or former minister has been siphoning tax settis away from their ministry and into personal accounts, with a transaction in 2012 being linked back to then-Lady Claidie during her time away from the Royal Court. Though she remains immune to prosecution, Claidie is reportedly cooperating with law enforcement in the investigation.

In motorsports news...
2017 Premier Series constructors champions Coweta Motorsport conducted testing with the new Hypersoft tyre to be introduced for the 2018 season, with driver's champion Lucas Grainger setting a new lap record at Chassion of 1:22.182, down nine tenths from the previous record, and with teammate Harmonie Herissida also breaking the old record but three tenths behind Grainger. The pace of Coweta in testing has brought concerns amongst rivals Maxima Motors over whether 2018 will be a competitive season.

In the second round of the SRS Electric Series, Millenium Motors driver Miles Barnett scored a victory, moving him to the top of the driver's championship, ten points ahead of round one winner Nicholas Odgers of Harper-Valera who barely missed the points this time out.

That's all the news for today. This is Julia Rossmoyne for Norvalle News, signing off.

Feature: The Time a City Waged War Over Beer
By: Ely Jon Brendan
December 1, 2017

Monk_t560.jpg
A medieval illustration in The Jorttensberg Tales of a Courantist monk drinking beer from the monastery's brewery.

If you have ever been to a lacrosse game or hockey match in Goyanes, or anywhere really, it is obvious that beer and fighting go hand in hand for the most part. If you would have asked the residents of medieval Nimstad, in eastern Kongsland, they maybe would have responded "Beer and War".

In 1187, the city of Nimstad fought a small war with a monastery on Nimøy Island over beer. Yes, beer. To understand the context of this however, we must delve deeper into the history of beer in medieval Goyanes. Beer was a central component of life in those days. People would drink beer at social gatherings, parties, guild meetings, and other public occasions. Not to mention, the beers of yore were certainly more nutritious than their modern counterparts.

"It was very common for Goyanean municipalities to own and operate breweries in the medieval times," says Raymond Hollenstein, a historian and professor of Medieval Nordic History at Kongsland A&M University. "This was exceptionally common in the more rural regions of the nation, where a lack of capital made it difficult for the average person to start their own brewery." In Nimstad, the local city council, or Stadsdag, ran a lucrative beer racket from the basement level of the city hall.

The Stadsdag had exclusive rights to sell the beer and tax the beer in the town and the farms surrounding the town. Selling and taxing the beer was vital to maintaining the smooth financial operation of the Stadsdag, explains Hollenstein. However, the city noticed a dip in revenue after the local monastery on Nimøy Island started selling beer from their own brewery. The Monastery, which was the seat of the local Archdiocese, had ample land rights, and a generous income stemming from tithe payments, donated contributions, and regular payments from the Via, the center of Erasian Courantism.

The monastery was an active financial center, with loads of people moving near to them seeking farming or craftsman jobs. As such, when the monastery began beer production for the general public, there was a steady base to sell the beer to. Beer was a crucial part of the monastic lifestyle in Goyanes, with 9th and 10th century records indicating that some monks consumed up to 3 liters of beer per day. Most monasteries contained their own breweries, however they did not always allow their beers to be sold to the public, as was the case with the Nimøy monastery.

In order to make beer, you needed a surplus of barley, and in rural Goyanes, most peasants would rather keep their grains for themselves to make breads. On the other hand, the monastery had ample farmland and time, thus were able to produce more beer, and better quality beer.

Despite the proximity of Nimøy to the Stadsdag's jurisdiction, the Monastery had no obligation to obey Nimstad's strict "Town Hall Beer Only" laws, and as such the monastery began to sell beer to the public. When the monastery began to sell beer, and disrupted the Stadsdag's monopoly, they had only one choice. A declaration of war.

The layout of Nimstad and the surrounding area made it so supplies to the monastery had to go through the city, and as a result a blockade of the island began. The city sent representatives to the island to attempt to discuss solutions, but to no avail. The island, which housed the local Archdiocese, placed the city under interdict, which basically meant that there would be no church services in the town until further notice. The archdiocese separated the town from god to continue selling beer.

The people of Nimstad were visibly displeased, and when the mayor called for the invasion, a lackluster force unhappily vandalized the monastery. The military invasion did not change the Archbisop's mind, and in the end it took the Archbishop of Naderfjord to issue a decree to end the blockade, and restore the Stadsdag's monopoly.

Revenge, like some beers, is best served cold. In 1447, the aldermen of Nimstad stormed the mayors residence, complaining about excessively high taxes, and killed him and his family, and the new Archbishop got his last word in on behalf of the island, by pre-absolving the aldermen's sins...

Queen Grace walks to a podium in the grass gardens of the Royal Palace, towered by her guards, and speaks to the surrounding reporters.

"Good evening, ladies and gentlemen. I have very important news. Due to future ideas for the future of Kanada and Maloria, I have decided to make my partner, Marten Severyn, my co-monarch of the Monarchy of Kanada. He will have the same abilities as me, being able to veto laws put through parliament, and make laws without a parliament vote. I'm sure this will cause some worry, but I assure that he will not make any major changes so early on, especially without my permission. I trust he will address the public about this soon."

Today, in front of the Royal Palace, Her Majesty Queen Grace Severyn-Kanad III announced that her husband, Marten Severyn, will become her co-leader of Kanada. He will become the official King of Kanada, and will have the same power as the Queen in the government. There has been much uproar over a foreign royal having significant power in the government, but it has been ignored by the queen.

King Marten Severyn is expected to make a speech soon.

Earlier this morning at the Läscher border crossing just 10km north of Gränzeburg a Cojedian 12 year old girl has been detained for trying to bring heroine into Ninhundland. The girl’s name is Dora Marquez and was traveling alone. While she had a legit passport, she seemed suspicious due to the fact that she was walking across alone as a 12 year old in the snow of December. As she refused to get checked it was found that she was carrying 10kg of heroine in her backpack that she claimed could talk and that she was on LSD.

Good evening! I'm Julia Rossmoyne, and thanks for joining us for tonight's edition of Norvalle News.

Today the Regency, by unanimous consent and decree, instituted sanctions against Alpha Verum Bibractia Caldonensis, a.k.a. ABC, in response to leftist sanctions levied all capitalist nations. The sanctions implement a total ban on trade with ABC in an effort to set an example to other nations to isolate the leftist regime. Princess Claidie's spokesperson indicated that she said "if ABC wants to attain self-sufficiency, we'll help them achieve it by not doing business with them. They can make up for the losses themselves." While the sanctions may have a larger impact in the principality, the government's hope is that in the long term with other nations isolating the regime, the impact to the ABC economy would be disastrous and plunge the nation into a significant recession, encouraging them to reverse course.

Norvalle Police told NNN today that the numbers involved in daily protests against the Phoenix Union have dropped into the single digits. Palace staff have relieved the police of their support role effective tomorrow, stating that available palace guards are more than enough to handle future disruptions should they become violent. Opposition Leader Isaac Castellan called it a victory for the international community, while Parliament Speaker Cicelia Blatherwick referred to the drop in protests a travesty against national sovereignty. The Regency had no comment on the matter.

Rounds three and four of SRS Electric took place over the weekend which saw Cordelia Fisher of Harper-Valera and Pierre Harston of Green Lightning picking up wins, with Harston lapping the entire field in race two.

The first race had only the podium winners finishing on the lead lap. Claidie Dorsett's car shut down unexpectedly while battling Miles Barnett on the final lap and could not be restarted. The rest of the field was a lap down. Dorsett's car failure was later attributed to the electric motor overheating and the car's software shutting the motor down to prevent a catastrophic loss of the motor. Coweta Motorsport promised it would review the data and make corrections to the motor and the electronics to ensure the overheating problem does not reoccur under normal racing conditions.

A safety car for Lillian Warren's stoppage on lap 19 in race two just before the halfway mark saw Pierre Harston changing cars early in a risky bid for the win, requiring him to run a slower pace in the second car to make it to the end without running out of available energy, while the rest of the field still had to make their pit stop for a car change. With the minimum pitstop time set so high, Pierre was able to get around the entire field. A full course yellow for Annabella Harston on lap 46 all but guaranteed Harston's victory. Lillian Warren retains the championship lead by one win, being tied with Cordelia Fisher in points. Pierre Harston's win moves him up to fifth in the championship.

That's all the news for today. This is Julia Rossmoyne for Norvalle News, signing off.

[OOC: This is the annual Christmas message from the Grand Emperor, and would be broadcast on television]

OFFICIAL MESSAGE FROM HIS IMPERIAL MAJESTY, THE GRAND EMPEROR OF GOYANES

"Good Evening and Merry Christmas. It is with great thankfulness and gratitude that I accept the offer to broadcast to you, my subjects, directly once again this Christmas season. In this time, few sights, sounds, or smells evoke such feelings as as a Christmas tree, or the smell of pine tar, or simply watching the snow fall outside. These symbols instill hope in our hearts, but also offer us a chance for reflection on the year that has passed.

2017 has been a tough year for many of us. The loss of loved ones is particularly painful, however, this Christmas we should take time not just to remember them, but to be thankful for all the things we have. Do not sorrow over death fanatically, as yes, you have lost a loved one, but they are now with God. One must never lose hope, even in the face of extreme sadness. A particular favorite quote of mine from the Bible is what we should be thinking in the passing of loved ones, and we should derive hope from it. John 14:1 states, "Do not let your hearts be troubled. You believe in God; believe also in me."

This quote was comforting in light of the May assault on the Gojannesstad U-Baner. Thousands injured and hundreds perished. However it is critical that the message of terror does not reach us, and that we stand strong together with hope, resilience, and fortitude.

This summer we marked the 70th anniversary of the start of the Fascist Wars, and we took time to commemorate not just the valiant fighters who returned home, but also the countless others who did not.

Christmas, however, is not just about remembrance, but also about giving. We as a community should strive to give more to the world than we take out of it. We see this in action at this very moment. The Goyanean military is engaged in a large scale aid operation, helping the Prydanian people recover from one of the nastiest civil wars the world has seen to this date.

We must be reminded though, that not all giving must be on such a grand scale. Any giving back to the community, not only makes you a better subject and a better messianist, but a better person. It is important though to give not to improve your self worth, but to have that giving truly come from the heart. Matthew 6:3-4 states, "but when you give to the poor, do not let your left hand know what your right hand is doing, so that your giving will be in secret; and your Father who sees what is done in secret will reward you." Give with truth and honesty, and you will be rewarded.

With these messages of hope, remembrance, and giving I leave you, but may the Lord remain with us and within our hearts this holiday season.

Merry Christmas, and a Blessed New Year.

-Anthony I Kjellse-Tages

From the Office of Emperor Stephan Durnstein

Dear Citizens of the Empire,

We've fought through many wars. Enemies like the Kee have subsumed our Empire through their oppressive means, pitting brother and sister against each other. Not only that, we have survived many revolutions. Through it all we had kept to our traditions and kept ourselves to our old standards, but in the modern world we must adapt. I am hereby disbanding the Hesskin Imperial Security Bureau also known as the Hesskin Secret Police. All investigations by the Secret Police have either been dropped or handed to the federal Police, or the local police of where they are needed. Agents of the Secret Police will either be moved to our Federal Police and Investigations League or to their local police stations and retrained in proper etiquette. Finally, on a personal note, thank you all for giving me such an amazing time as your Emperor and having fought with me and my father before his abdication. And a thank you to my wife, Empress Eva Durnstein, for her commitment to me and to our glorious Empire!

Signed,
Emperor Stephan Drunstein of the Hesskin Empire

Tobias smiled warmly into the camera. It was his first Christmas address since becoming King, and he wished to leave the right sort of impression.

"To my countrymen and countrywomen and our friends, both within and beyond our borders, thank you for joining me this Christmas. This Christmas...it means so many things here in Prydania. So many of us still go without power, heat, or food. So many of us stare down winter not knowing what spring will bring. I cannot hold it against you if you feel dread this Christmas. It's hard not to, given the state we find the world in."

"Christmas though, should be a time of joy" he smiled softly, trying to work out what he wanted to say, even as the words had already been written and typed...
"...a time when hardships melt away because each of us supports the other. Messianist, Shaddaist, Mehrabiist, atheist, rich, poor...it shouldn't matter. On this day we should all remember that each of us can help the other. Each of us will help the other."

"We've been a blessed nation despite our hardships. Friends have helped us in our time of need. Our people have shown remarkable strength rising from the dirt to say 'no, we will not be beaten, we will not be subjugated by despair.' As the Bible says, 'the righteous person may have many troubles, but the Lord delivers him from them all.' We have had many troubles, but righteous compassion will deliver each and every Prydanian, regardless of creed."

"I ask each of you with me tonight to let this Christmas fill you with joy. Help your neighbour, your brother, your countryman. Help the soliders and construction workers, foreign or not. Help the men, women, and children who lack shelter or food. Bring us all together through an act of kindness...."

"...because I promise you all. This Christmas is the end of the past year and the start of a new one. As we approach the new year we have to take stock. Tyrants who would do us and our friends harm in Prydania and in Norsia have been shattered. The future is not one of conflict, but of rebirth and cooperation. Even as would-be tyrants park their ships off the coast of our friends, and threaten the very peace we've all bled for. We must all recognize the year to come, and every year after, brings us one step further from the hardships we have all suffered. If only we truly believe in the power behind an act of kindness."

Thank you Prydania, for joining me. God bless every one of us, and those who stand with us."

Tobias stood after the directors informed him the feed was over. He was finally getting used to the pressure that came with addressing the nation. To say he was used to it would be incorrect. His heart still raced and his nerves were still shot. Still, it had become easier to handle. He turned to look out the window of his office as the tv crews began to dismantle the set that had been constructed.
A light but consistent snowfall fell over Beaconsfield. The capital, being the capital, had already seen most of the damage sustained during the final months of the Civil War repaired. Still, there were the cold and hungry and homeless of Beaconsfield. He looked down, at the street level from his office and smiled.

Absalon's Palace was being turned into something of a shelter from Christmas Eve through the New Year. Much of it was still empty, not yet having been reconstituted since the Syndicalists ransacked it. What was restored, where Tobias lived and worked, was a relatively small part of the massive structure. What was livable but unused should be put to use.

He continued to smile. Admittedly the good news from the Norsian front had put him in a better mood. He looked out beyond the city, towards the harbour.
"I'm glad I could help, Alycia" he whispered to himself before retiring to his quarters for the evening.

Who's Winning This War Anyway?

Welcome back to Boeki Minato News Networks. On today's special edition broadcast, we'll be covering the broad strokes on which side we predict will win this war. I am Hanae Harigae, and let's begin.

Now, the first issue in figuring out this dilemma is what side to believe. You see, not everyone is as lucky as us in Boeki Minato. We don't all have the option to listen to multiple networks and act freely based upon that information. Some areas only get coverage from one source of information, and every side tells a different story.

If you believe the current government, than the enemy are traitors of the highest degree who will soon crumble before the Chudokuren military. If you believe the democratic government, then the righteous light of liberty has been stolen away by a tyrant who has committed atrocities across the nation. If you believe the monarchists, then democracy is to blame to all this chaos, but the military deserves to be punished for its treason too, and both democratic and government forces are committing vile acts. If you believe the Nakusikans, everyone is in the wrong and they want their own country back.

Naturally, none of these sides want to admit to their own atrocities. But it's not as if we don't know about some of them. The chemical attacks on Idaina Nojo stand out as a horrendous example of government conduct, but the democrats weren't much better when they committed the massacre in Heiwana when the people refused to give them free supplies. The monarchists aren't free of charges either, but theirs are more spread out.

There's something else important to note. As divided as the nation seems already, it's actually far more so than most seem to realise. Each side has its own internal fractures. In the government, it's between those who support the Supreme Overlady and those who support the military itself over her, since they both want different things. In the democratic rebels and their supporters, each political party wants to be the one voted into power at the end of all this. With the monarchists, the noble families are busy trying to secretly and not-very-subtly take over the throne for themselves. The Nakusikans are the most unified group, all of them wanting effectively the same thing at the moment,

Now, in terms of manpower, the military has more military people than anyone else, but they've got to secure everywhere they walk because of their tyranny. That means they can't concentrate their forces. The democratic side has the issue that they're surrounded by everyone else. The monarchists are pushed to the mountains, and they will struggle to advance. In the end, I doubt the democratics or the Nakusikans will win. I think it will end up being the current government. But I doubt it'll stay stable for long.

There is one other factor, of course, to consider. Foreign support. There's a reason the government recently greatly lessened their restrictions on foreign imports and media. If anyone sends aid over here, the side that gets it will have a massive advantage. That could definitely turn the ride, but it's impossible to predict whether anyone will do anything at all.

I just hope this war ends soon. Even being oppressed might be less horrible that all the death that's going on, and it's only getting worse with rumours this open chemical warfare will be adopted by each side, that the destruction of civilians may be used to further their ends. That's depressing, really.

If the government does well, I'll probably be hunted down and killed. But I'm not scared. There's a reason they haven't marched on this city yet, and they won't enforce their laws here until they can overcome both the militia and everyone here with a gun. That time will only arise after every rebel group is defeated and they have soldiers to spare.

Goodnight to you all. We're all tired.

Dimitro Iliopoulos : Nia Nova Gvidanto
Dimitro Iliopoulos : Our New Leader
197882_5_.jpg
Image of Dimitro Iliopoulos, Demescian Domestics Premier

The audience roared as the new-elected domestic premier spoke in the portico of the ?iutagejo on October 2nd. The Sunsbirano had garnered over 30% of primary (and 37% of alternative) votes after a vigorous campaign of whistle-stop tours.

“Gesinjoroj (ladies and gentlemen),” Iliopoulos said, the meaning of his words carrying heavy reverb, “my predecessor’s motto has always been ‘keep the status quo—’ well frankly, and though he may rest in peace, the status quo is utter bullshit. We’ve barely rallied since the last recession; the feds act as if they’re gods over us; our military can’t even thwart monks.

“Where do we go from here? Just because I’m standing at this podium in this portico today, I can feel a certain passion—a beating heart that all Demescians, whether residents or expats, share. We all want to get better, and with the potential of markets and the merriness of our patriots, and me as your guardian, we can!”
Iliopoulos was the intendant of Terre d'aisselle for two years and, before then, a candid journalist stirring contention. Though, his approval ratings as intendant neared sixty percent after two years of dismantling egalitarian and proletarian legislation, such as detaxation of residents and cutting the domain’s minimum wage in half. He’ll likely do the same as domestics premier.

Apparently his first target will be nationwide statutes on business discrimination. “The federal branches have always been the parents of our society when they shouldn’t, because we’re adults. So why are they the ones to decide when discrimination is okay, hm? The rules have got to go. Devolution is on the rise.” Few in the audience applauded. What he referred to were rules that uphold net neutrality and prohibited discrimination against certain customers. Iliopoulos is pushing to make it a local ordeal rather than a federal one. He claimed he’s already written the executive forms.

Spending on authority is also a change. Iliopoulos indicated this with an anecdote “I went down the street in Aqsan and I saw a man getting bludgeoned by bullets in an alleyway; the man who did it, grizzled with bloodshot eyes, said to me ‘it was self-defense.’ I couldn’t know for sure because I didn’t see shit and there was no surveillance because the Egalitarians cry ‘privacy.’ Egalitarians, can you know for sure if that grizzled Lithonian was innocent?”

“This guy rambles without focus,” Independent candidate of Ansono Ansono, who was just behind Iliopoulos with a total 54%, told me in an interview. “In his speech he's just bouncing from thing to thing they’re easy fixes. well they're not easy fixes they are in depth choices that have defects in every direction. And dare I say, thank Prajapati he’s not the Premier of Diplomacy.”

That duty went to Beehiver Ito Okeke, who believes in freeing Demescia even more to foreign markets (to the dismay of Iliopoulos). He managed to get 63% from primary votes alone. “All in; nothing out” was his campaign motto. Iliopoulos, about him, said “he may be unwilling today, but I’ll make him my bitch in time.”

“I honestly don’t know what’s happening to this country,” Asono commented. “I guess every year brings new and odd political weather. I use weather because climate is too consistent. From what I’ve seen Iliopoulos will stop at nothing to screw over personal lives and rule out everything unpatriotic. But I guess that’s what people wanted: less privacy.”

Though it’s difficult to analytically predict the future; Demescia, as Asono said, is an odd paradoxical battlefield of ideas and power. Though one thing is certain: Iliopoulos will be premier for two years, if impeachment or otherwise doesn’t happen.

Landesdag passes bipartisan bill appropriating aid funding to Arrandal
By: Henry Kvallstrøm
December 26, 2017

Lawspeaker Kristof Vranning reads aloud the final results from the Stortinget vote this morning.

Coming back quickly after the Christmas holiday, the Stortinget passed the modified Aid to Arrandal bill which had been sent back down from the 2nd reading at the Riksdag on the 23rd. It passed with broad support, 318-20 (yea-nay). It passed the 3rd reading in the Riksdag just before lunchtime, and the Grand Emperor signed it into law in the afternoon.

The bill appropriates 100 billion taxpayer drams (NSD$10,000,000,000) to infrastructure reconstruction efforts in Arrandal as part of the international aid distribution fund of the Imperial Government. The Goyanean government will meet with members of the Waiczyn once elections take place to discuss rate of transfer and other financial minutiae.

Backlash to the bill has already begun, with prominent members of the Socialist Front party actively speaking out and organizing protests. Socialist Front party leader Janet Forsythmann said to GRK News, "We believe the funds appropriation bill is just a front for Gotic neo-imperialism. The Nords should apologize for their wrongdoings towards the affected peoples of the earth." Shortly after Janet gave this message to live GRK News, a petition was started in her constituency for Madam Forsythmann to step down.

The public reaction however, from the rest of the general public, has been extremely positive. Initial public polling has shown a 85% approval rating for the bill. GRK24 Political Analyst Sven Benson said, "After the Pheonix Union has failed to expediently provide aid and relief to one of their members after a devastating internal conflict, it almost seemed necessary that someone step up to it."

GRK News will continue to update this story as more information arrives.

December 27th 2017

Earlier today Gaeton Sadoul once admiral of the Norsian Merchant Navy, now commissioner of Norsian Naval affairs officially announced that the United Kingdoms of Norsia will be forming a proper Navy, in the hopes of securing and protecting Norsian National waters and interests. A navy, an Idea never taken seriously in the history of Nors until a few months ago, when the threats of naval invasion became very real very quickly.

Commissioner Sadoul stated that bids had occurred between a few of Norsia's designers and dryworks to secure contracts into the designing and construction of new corvettes and frigates for the new Royal Norsian Navy. The winners of such bids were Haillet Dryworks and Pichard Doullier Shipwrights. Who have been tasked with the designing and construction of suitable multi role Screening vessels. and the designing and potential construction of a capital ship.

Commissioner Sadoul also went on to say the United Kingdoms of Norsia would be reaching out, looking to acquire ships of various kinds from foreign powers such as Goyanes, Kanada and more and to potentially learn from foreign advisors in the arts of proper warship construction and operation; Tactics and formations as well as Crew and Command training for the new Seaborne Defenders of Norsia.
Sadoul had this sobering statement at the end of his conference.

"The Stan Yeran fleet wading into our waters and anchoring their ships in our waters letting none close, and the threat of Cogorian Volunteers landing on our shores was a rude wake up call. our Predecessors and our ancestors never considered a navy, back then we never really needed one. We have had enough shame with the Civil War, now we have been delivered another shame. Allowing our waters to be violated and our local sea industries curtailed. it makes us face the facts. A modern Norsia needs a Modern Navy, or Norsia will never be safe."
