Hexastalian Prime Minister Caught in Corruption Scandal

In a shock to the country, the Prime Minister of Hexastalia, Sebestyen Barta, has been implicated in a corruption scandal that has sent shockwaves throughout the country. According to sources close to the investigation, Barta is alleged to have accepted bribes from a foreign company in exchange for political favors.

The scandal first came to light when a whistleblower within the government revealed that Barta and other politicians had been receiving payments from a foreign company in exchange for favorable treatment in government contracts. The company in question has not been named, but sources say that it is a major player in the energy sector.

As the scandal began to snowball, Barta was forced to make a public statement denying any wrongdoing. "I categorically deny these allegations," he said in a televised address. "I have always acted in the best interests of the people of Hexastalia and have never accepted any bribes or engaged in any corrupt practices."

However, the evidence against Barta continued to mount, and calls for his resignation grow louder by the day. Several parties in the country's parliament have called for a vote of no confidence in the vastly unpopular Prime Minister, which could lead to his removal from office. Barta’s bloc of support continues to dwindle by the day.

Meanwhile, protests have erupted in the streets of Hexastalia's major cities, with demonstrators calling for Barta’s resignation and greater accountability from the government. The scandal has sparked a national conversation about corruption and the need for greater transparency in government.

The investigation into the scandal is ongoing, and more details are expected to emerge in the coming weeks. In the meantime, the people of Hexastalia are left grappling with the fallout from a scandal that has rocked their country to its core.

BREAKING: WAR IN AUROREA OFFICIALLY ENDS WITH AUROREAN FORCES UNCONDITIONAL SURRENDER

As of 8 pm on Sunday, the 21st of May the hostilities that have led to thousands of deaths and plunged the Ethian continent into chaos have officially ended, surviving elements of the Aurorean military agreeing to a complete and unconditional surrender. Signed in the Bas-Al-Asiya hotel, one of the only buildings to escape destruction by allied bombing, General Rasce Cala of the 11th Phalanx and his Scalvian counterpart Brigadier General Martin Riispõld have officially received the formal and immediate surrender of all remaining elements of the Aurorean military. The scenes on the streets of Al-Zahra are currently a mix of jubilation and utter despair, for the allied forces it is a day of celebration as the armies of Scalvia and Volsha meet in the center of their enemies' capital, for the local populace, uncertainty and privation are seemingly inevitable as they take in the ruin of their nation.

Victory is also a bittersweet taste for the allied forces, thousands of Scalvian and Volshan servicemen and women have perished over the course of a year of brutal combat, and civilian casualties have also been considerable with the initial Aurorean invasion of Tauroga being the scene of many atrocities. Though guns are now falling silent for many the trauma of the war will not simply fade in the past. For now, the victorious armies celebrate and thoughts turn to home and peace, tomorrow the reality of humanitarian aid, rebuilding of infrastructure, and the potential nightmare of disease and starvation await.

Patriarch Emellus and Matriarch Tarasce have delivered a formal offering to the gods and a rare televised address to the wider nation:

"Noble folk of Volsha, on this most blessed of occasions we have finally been delivered from the scourge of war into the serene fields of unity and peace, as we take to the streets in rapturous celebration however, we must not forget the cost of victory. over 3,000 Volshans died to bring this peace and an even greater number of Scalvian servicemen and citizens, we must never forget the sacrifices made to ensure the return of peace. Tomorrow we begin the long and arduous path to recovery as we rebuild and heal, tonight however let the whole nation be united in celebration and thanks, peace has returned and with the god's blessing we are delivered!"

Zilathe Arnthe was unable to comment on the victory, the head of government has been rushed to hospital following a potential cardiac arrest, this has prompted the Synod to convene in an emergency council and appoint his chief magister, Cel Sethlans to the position of emergency head of government. We pray for the safe recovery of Zilathe Sentina and that the gods will watch over and make strong Magister Cel as she steers our nation in his absence. As always local shrines and temples are accepting offerings and prayers for the safe recovery of the Zilathe.

Sorovia votes in favor of withdrawing UAS application
A2BMVOUG3ZIF7FS7THBMHNHIAU.png

The Sorovian Parliamentary overwhelmingly voted to withdraw Sorovia's application to the UAS earlier today, 136 Yes, 22 No, 42 Abstaining.

In a landmark decision by the Sorovian Parliament, which earlier today voted on the withdrawal of Sorovia's application towards the Union of Aurorian States (UAS). A historic parliamentary vote, held earlier today, witnessed the Sorovian parliament overwhelmingly voting to withdraw its application to join the regional bloc.

The Sorovian Parliament, after weeks of debate and deliberation, finalized the decision with an overwhelming majority. With a vote count of 136 in favor, 22 opposing withdrawal of Sorovia's application, and 42 abstaining from the vote. It has become clear that Sorovia's position on the UAS has become less open to membership, in both the chambers of parliament and the streets of Sorovia. In a recent poll conducted in late March, only 43.7% of Sorovians actually wished to join the organization, a sharp decrease from the 64.6% of Sorovians who wished to join the regional organization in Early August. The nation's position towards the Union comes as a shock to many, many did not see Sorovia withdrawing its application due to the amount of bureaucratic and diplomatic effort which had been put into allowing Sorovia to enter the Union. More shock comes from Sorovia's already existing ties to nations in the Union, Esthursia, who voted to remain in the UAS remains a valuable economic and political partner, a key supporter of Sorovia's application to enter the Union. Many anti-UAS figures called on Sorovia to vote for the withdrawal of its application to the union, stating possibilities that Sorovia may lose out on its own economic policies, possible pressure on Sorovian immigration laws, and the erosion of its own national identity. Meanwhile, those who supported Sorovian membership into the union brought up possible economic gain via trade, more markets, and the possibility that Sorovia's interests could be better served by actually participating in Union affairs and political issues, instead of standing on the sidelines.

Many Aurosceptics inside Sorovia have also pointed out the Union's weak response to the Aurorean invasion of Scalvia in July of 2022, the controversies surrounding the Union's handling of the war, along with several other economic and political issues have massively shifted public favor in Sorovia. One of the key supporters of Sorovian withdrawal of its application is the right-wing populist party 'Republic' which expressed strong support for the bill, pushing voters and other political parties to vote 'yes' to the withdrawal of Sorovia's application. In a recent interview with members of the Republic Party they stated the following "While we understand the need for regional security and stability, the UAS is not the way to do it. The UAS has failed on several matters in its own backyard, where was the UAS when Aurorea invaded Scalvia? It is clear that due to the silence in the halls of the UAS Headquarters towards us, they do not care. We have witnessed the failure of the union, and we do not plan for Sorovia to be a part of it. Instead, by withdrawing our application we regain Sorovian control over several of its own issues, not having to listen to the babbling of a regional organization and having to conform to its own rules and terms. We will be able to forge our own mutual relations with other nations with bilateral relations, which we believe will ultimately be more important to contribute to a more secure and stable Auroria, instead of joining the Union. Sorovia should be a wakeup call to the failures of the Union and it being unable to uphold the principles it stood for."

Many political analysts worried that Sorovia's withdrawal could possibly affect Sorovia's relationships with its neighboring nations in the union, bringing up the issues of Sorovia's sudden realignment from a hopeful UAS member-state to not wishing to join the Union. Jeremy Wilson, current deputy leader of the Esthursian Social Democrats stated upon finding out the news of Sorovia's withdrawal, his support for Sorovia's decision, "The Sorovian people have chosen to leave. Good for them, I think we can say, pretty definitively. They made the choice we probably should've made - after all, the grinding machinations of the neoliberal bloc meant they never got to join in the first place, never mind leave. The Sorovians' decision, quite resoundingly, to leave the UAS by the wayside not only highlights how deeply the Union has failed, but actually questioned whether there is a place for a Union so deeply embarrassed and scandal-hit, frozen in time, drifting meaninglessly as it fails to respond to each and every issue." Several Sorovian political parties, including more left-wing parties such as the Labour Party, have also begun to have a change of opinion toward possible Sorovian membership into the Union, with many of its members supporting the withdrawal of Sorovia's application.

Sorovia's decision to withdraw its application, according to several pro-withdrawal individuals shows the rationalization of Sorovia, who they say has listened to the will of the people, as the overwhelming vote to withdraw Sorovia's application reflects the will of the Sorovian people and their opinion on Sorovian membership in the regional organization. Many of those in Sorovia no longer see the need to join a regional organization, seeing Sorovia's membership as only detrimental to Sorovian politics and economics, worrying that UAS membership would result in Sorovia having major economic sectors like fishing being hit hard if legislation which affected the fishing industry were to take place in the Union. Sorovia's decision to withdraw its UAS application is a sign of Sorovia's commitment to active participation in regional, global, and local affairs, while also being able to secure its own national interests with cooperation with foreign partners.

Governmental statement on the Minimum Standard of Living Act

My Citizens,
The General Assembly is projected to pass the Minimum Standard of Living Act, in 9 hours at the time of this press release. Arawi is a fervent supporter of this legislation, as it reiterates the human rights to good living conditions and adequate access to services such as housing and hygiene. This law will provide incentives to nations that set a minimum standard of access to these services and living conditions, and also provide help to countries who do not have the financial ability to uphold this standard.

This act is an act that, unusually for Arawi, requires immediate action to comply with this legislation. Responsibility for this legislation and the new minimum standard of living is to be jointly held by the Department for Welfare, and the Department for Housing, Communities and Society. The Department for Social Policy may also provide services in this task.

In a meeting with my Cabinet this morning, we set out our action plan for compliance with this bill. Our aim is to ensure every household and business has the correct conditions to comply with the new regulations, which are that all households and businesses have clean running water, a flushable and hygienic toilet, a clean house, and most important a roof over their head. The latter means that we now pledge to completely end rough sleeping across Arawi by 2027. We also want all children to have a good education, and for all workers to be treated with a basic level of respect and dignity, with the correct pay.

In order to achieve these goals, local authorities are now required to inspect every household and business every 2 years, starting next week. The government will provide an extra 100 billion Mars Bars to local authorities to achieve this. Any place that does not comply with the new regulations will have its culpability determined, and may be eligible for financial support from the government.

I thank the Arawian people for complying with this legislation, which will make Arawi a better place than it already is.

Yours

The Office of the Prime Minister

Prime Minister Sebestyen Barta Ousted from Office as Parliament Passes Vote of No Confidence

In a historic move that has sent shockwaves through Hexastalia, Prime Minister Sebestyen Barta has been ousted from his position after a successful vote of no confidence by the country's parliament. The unpopular leader, who was recently embroiled in a corruption scandal, has been forced to step down, leaving the nation in a state of political upheaval.

The vote of no confidence, which took place in a special session of parliament, saw a significant majority of lawmakers expressing their lack of trust in the prime minister's ability to lead the country. Members from both the ruling party and the opposition joined forces to deliver a resounding blow to Barta's political career.

The decision to remove Barta from office comes after weeks of mounting pressure and public outcry surrounding the corruption scandal that tarnished his reputation and rocked the foundations of the government. The evidence against him was substantial, with multiple witnesses and incriminating documents presented during the parliamentary hearings.

Following the vote, Barta addressed the nation one final time, accepting the outcome and acknowledging the need for accountability. "I respect the decision of the parliament and take full responsibility for my actions. I will step down from my position as Prime Minister, effective immediately.," he declared. "It is essential that the country moves forward and rebuilds trust in its leadership." He declined to comment when we contacted him through the Office of the Prime Minister.

With Barta's departure, the nation now faces the challenge of selecting a new leader to guide Hexastalia through this period of uncertainty. The next election to determine the next prime minister will take place in 2024. Until then, a caretaker government led by President Ilona Istvan will be put in place to ensure continuity and stability.

The ousting of Barta has had immediate consequences on the political landscape, with his coalition now grappling with internal divisions and a loss of public support. Opposition parties, on the other hand, see this as an opportunity to present themselves as a viable alternative and push their own agendas.

As the country embarks on a new chapter, the people of Hexastalia are left hoping for a fresh start and a government that is transparent, accountable, and focused on the well-being of its citizens. The outcome of the vote of no confidence marks a turning point in the nation's political history, leaving behind a tainted legacy and an urgent need for change.

An Aurorian World Cup?

As of yesterday, the State Committee for Physical Culture and Sports Chairman, Artem Belov has announced that the People's Republic of Rayvostoka has put in its bid to be the next host of the 2023, Eras World Cup. In a speech to the assembled press, Committee Chairman Belov spoke passionately about the necessity for Rayvostoka to rebuild its image on the world stage and foster a sense of global neighbourliness with the nations of the world after decades of relative isolation.

Alongside this Belov, announced plans to provide for the tens to hundreds of thousands of foreign visitors who may come to Rayvostoka. Detailing the expansion of Special Economic Zones within the country to accommodate the needs of the tourists that visit for the games. This is alongside the expansion of current stadiums within key cities of Rayvostoka to fit the large crowd sizes drawn by the world cup. Hotels and other housing accommodations are being arranged as well, with a large emphasis being expanding the beachfront properties currently existing, in cities like Analovsk, Saragara, Sivsky and Mikhay which already contained some tourist zones before this announcement. Cities like Lebedevgrad which had previously been much less tourist available will have many parts of its beachfront properties and the surrounding areas accommodated for visitors as well.

Significance?

This announcement by the Rayvostokan Government is the first-ever request to host the cup in its entire 110-year history. A sets a massive precedent for the future of not only Rayvostoka but the entire region of Auroria as it begins to stabilize after an extended period of instability following the unrest of the Aurorean war. This bid openly displays Rayvostoka's growing confidence and stability within the region alongside its increasing standing within the international community which seemingly has begun to accept it into the global process. Going forward we can most likely expect to see something of a shift in the ongoing dynamics of the region as Rayvostoka grows its presence in both the region and the world diplomatically.

Prime Minister Ilona Istvan Unveils Ambitious 500-Day Plan to Transform Hexastalia
Hexastalia's newly-elected President, Ilona Istvan, a prominent member of the Democratic Socialist Party, has unveiled an ambitious 500-day plan aimed at bringing about substantial changes to the country before the next election. Istvan's plan includes the repeal of the long-standing neutrality policy, the renationalization of key industries, and an expansion of the welfare state, signaling a significant shift in Hexastalia's political landscape.

One of the most notable aspects of President Istvan's plan is the proposed repeal of the country's neutrality policy. Hexastalia has maintained a neutral stance since the 1962 Revolution, but Istvan believes that adopting a more assertive foreign policy will better serve the nation's interests. Many Hexastalians seem to share that belief, which is reflected in recent polling showing a sharp decrease in popularity of the policy. The President argues that active participation in global affairs will allow Hexastalia to have a greater impact on issues that align with its values, such as human rights and social justice.

In line with her Democratic Socialist principles, President Istvan aims to renationalize key industries that were previously privatized. The plan seeks to place strategic sectors, such as energy, transportation, and telecoms, back under state control. Proponents of this move argue that it will enable the government to prioritize the public's welfare and ensure equitable access to essential services, while critics raise concerns about the potential drawbacks and inefficiencies of state-owned enterprises. Istvan’s plan would renationalize many of the sectors denationalized by Prime Minister Illés in 1995.

Furthermore, Istvan's plan places a strong emphasis on expanding the welfare state. The President intends to implement comprehensive social programs, including improved healthcare coverage, affordable housing initiatives, and enhanced education opportunities. The goal is to reduce inequality, provide a safety net for vulnerable citizens, and create a more equitable society.
President Istvan, in a public address, stated, "Our 500-day plan represents a vision for a more progressive, inclusive, and compassionate Hexastalia. We must challenge the status quo and prioritize the needs of our citizens. By dismantling outdated policies, reimagining the role of the state, and fostering a stronger social safety net, we can build a fairer and more prosperous future."

However, Istvan's plan has already drawn both support and criticism from various quarters. Supporters applaud her commitment to addressing social and economic disparities, asserting that the proposed changes will benefit the majority of Hexastalians. On the other hand, critics express concerns about the potential costs and potential consequences of renationalization, arguing that it could stifle innovation and hinder economic growth.
The success of President Istvan's 500-day plan will depend on the support she can garner within the government and the broader society. Its implementation will require navigating complex political dynamics, addressing potential legal and economic challenges, and effectively communicating the benefits of the proposed reforms to the public.

As the new administration begins the process of enacting its transformative agenda, the eyes of Hexastalia and the international community will be closely watching the progress and impact of President Istvan's 500-day plan on the country's future.

Faursian referendum: Faursia votes ‘Yes’ to devolution
27th of March, 2023
14:56

Over the weekend of the 25th and 26th, Faursia has voted in favour of devolution, with voters decisively approving the idea.

Although the exact number of votes has not yet been released, it has been confirmed that 62.7% of Faursian voters voted ‘Yes’, whilst 37.3% voted ‘No’.

Chancellor Johannes van der Capellen has since called for unity, and has reassured his commitments to the Faursian people, saying their wishes will be enacted ‘in-full’. He has also acknowledged that Faursian people ‘must have a bigger say in their own affairs’.

A Faursian parliament is set to be opened next year, a date is yet to be confirmed. Cecilia Miedema, MP has praised the outcome of the referendum, and said it is the ‘first step in a walk to a new Faursia’.

The result became a mathematical certainty at 10:39 PM, Faursian time on the 26th - and at 10:44 PM, Faursian time - or 11:44 PM, Aubervijan time, Mr Van der Capellen made a statement, accepting the result and calling for nationwide and regional unity.

As part of the agreement between Aubervijr and Faursia, which saw the referendum took place - the Faursian Social and Political Federation must now dissolve into its own separate parties, as it was before the federation formed.

A general election will be held in Faursia prior to the opening of parliament to determine seat allocation and the ruling government.

Further talks are said to be held between the Aubervijan government and Cecilia Miedema, who is said to be Faursia’s ‘representative’, as the leader of Faursian MPs in Aubervijr. These talks will determine when exactly the Faursian parliament will be opened. Cecilia Miedema assured Faursians she will ‘push the issue to the very brim’ to ensure it is a hasty process.

Experts believe it could be open much sooner than expected, after recent negotiations advanced to a point where the Aubervijan government would be willing to issue a favourable date. The three main Aubervijan parties met with the three main Faursian parties, alongside many representatives from the High Court of Faursia and have reportedly negotiated for a month before the idea of devolution had even been proposed in Parliament. This is why negotiations are already at such an advanced stage.

There are questions as to why representatives of the High Court were present at these negotiations. Its believed that they were simply required to progress through negotiations quickly, and provide an unbiased voice to speak at the negotiating table.

In a recent interview, Miedema stated that a Faursian parliament could be open “in a matter of months”, and arrangements for said opening of parliament are already underway. The Aubervijan government are due to inform the public of their decision in terms of dates as soon as the decision has been made by the government internally. Considering preperations are already underway, its estimated that it will be sooner, rather than later.

Faursian parliament is offically opened
20th of June, 2023
12:37 PM

Chancellor Johannes van der Capellen was present as President Coenraad van Rijckevorsel officially opened the new Faursian parliament this morning. This follows months of preperations and an even longer buildup to several different referendums and passings of bills in the Aubervijan parliament.

Its claimed by the newly founded Faursian National Party (FNP), headed by Cecilia Miedema, that the Aubervijan government are responsible for deliberately delaying the opening, claims which representatives of the government were quick to reject. Not that it particularly matters, however - as the parliament is open now. However, the first meeting of parliament will not occur before the 22nd of June, instead after that date.

However, Faursia is now officially recognised by the Aubervijan government as a “political and territorial entity”. Not necessarily its own country, although it can be simplified as such - Faursia is still apart of the Commonwealth regardless.

Faursia’s general election is set to be held in two days, which is later than originally expected, but it was agreed by all parties during negotiations. The FNP are set to become the ruling party regardless, as all polls conducted recently in Faursia all indicate that the FNP will win by a landslide margin, and Cecilia Miedema will become Faursia’s first ever leader since King Meginbraht in 1544, who was killed by Aubervijr’s own Queen Eleonore, who had a reputation as a warrior queen, which she lived up to after killing Meginbraht in a duel.

Faursia’s general election date is the same as Aubervijr’s, but Faursia’s elections will occur exactly three years after that of the Commonwealth’s. Term limits for the Faursian Prime Minister, as the office will be known, will be 6 years, the same as the term limits in Aubervijr. One Faursian PM cannot serve more than 2 terms on their own, which is also the same in Aubervijr.

The Faursian Parliament will have 144 seats, and will use Aubervijr’s proportional representation system in order to elect its MPs. Faursia’s population, according to the latest census, is 14,399,913 - meaning one seat in the Faursian parliament will be worth around 99,999 votes exactly.

Faursia is still led by the Aubervijan government, however - and they will continue to lead until the very moment a Faursian PM is democratically elected. As soon as the Faursian general election concludes, Faursia will have its own leader, for the first time in 479 years - and better yet, this time around, Aubervijr will actually recognise the legitimacy of this leader, unlike King Meginbraht all those centuries ago, who was deemed to be a criminal by Queen Eleonore.

As Interest in Green Politics Rises, Federation of Callisean Greens Suffers Internal Division
By: Charles Gagnon
July 24, 2023

Jerome-Foster-Fire-Drill-Friday-2020.jpg

Théo Berlioz, Chairman of the Federation of Callisean Green Youth
Callisean Greens are struggling to capitalize on an interest in Green Politics because of internal political disputes within the Federation of Callisean Greens. The interest comes in the wake of a massive heat wave that has caused acute crop failure in large portions of Eastern Callise. Despite this swell of support, the Greens have not been able to capitalize on their momentum. The party is divided between an old and new guard, on issues such as the model of green transition, nuclear energy, and orientation towards the new socialist republic. Division has culminated in the expulsion of the Federation of Callisean Green Youth from the Federation of the Callisean Greens, which was followed by the disaffiliation of numerous locals from the federation.

The heat wave began in late June, with a week of record temperatures and heat which deeply affected Bergeluçon and Frerault. The crop failure was estimated to have cost $100 Million Devisousé, and deeply affected small growers and farmhands. The government has responded with payments to compensate the farmers and stipends for the workers, as well as the deployment of specialists to help rehabilitate as much of the crop as possible. Nonetheless, the heat wave has sparked a political change in Callise. Searches for "Green politics," "Greens," and "Green energy" rose sharply in the days following the heat wave, and green political positions have increased in popularity since. Moreover, there has been an increase in membership in the Federation of Callisean Greens, especially among it's youth wing.

However, the interest in the Federation of Callisean Greens has been tempered by its internal politics. Younger members, who have joined the party in recent years, have introduced a new political orientation to the organization. The old guard, who have historically collaborated with the Social Democratic Party, hold a more conservative form of green politics. While in support of the current PTC-led government, they favor a cooperative model for the development of a green economy, are opposed to nuclear energy, and have voiced concerns with the process of collectivization. It is this faction which currently holds leadership in the party. By contrast, the young guard, which was formerly organized in the Ecologist Pole and formed the leadership of the youth wing of the party, have been full throated supporters of the PTC-led government. Many of these activists support eco-socialist and eco-modernist positions, being friendlier to nuclear energy, and supportive of nationalizing large green energy firms.

The tensions came to a head in mid-June, when the Federation was supposed to have held its convention. The Ecologist Pole had won the election, according to ballot returns, but party-leadership, citing voting regularities, suspended the election and held an emergency convention at which they expelled the youth wing for subversive activity. The expelled youth wing leader, Théo Berlioz, promptly reorganized the Ecologist Pole as an independent political party: Ecologist Alternative. He likewise called on other sympathetic people to leave the federation and join the new org. All told, roughly two thirds of the federation have left to join the new organization.

Follow this story as it continues to unfold.

"Farrugia: Sorovia is not worth our vexation"
February 2, 2023

elyes-fakhfkah-tunisia-pm-afp.png

Prime Minister Farrugia assured the Senat that the impact of the Sorovian sanctions on the Iolantan economy will be "controlled." He claimed fears of economic recession are "unfounded" and part of "speculative hysteria." He suspected the Sorovian government has been involved in spreading "anti-Iolantan" propaganda to mislead other nations about the true situation.

When Farrugia was asked whether people should be concerned about Sorovian actions against Iolanta, he laughed and replied, "Sorovia is not worth our vexation. We tried our best to work our differences before. We tried to pursue 'good-faith negotiations' to achieve a common ground on key issues. Within reason and within our interests. All of this was done immediately after we achieved our independence in 2003. It's 2023 and nothing has changed since. Why should we force ourselves to commit to what could be a complete and utter waste of time?"

Farrugia pointed out that no other nation in the world has taken political or economic action against Iolanta. "Why should we care about what Sorovia says?" He said, continuing, "When, clearly, the world does not agree with them. I say we continue like business as usual. It will blow over by the time the Sorovian government discovers another waste of time. Building a stronger border, for example."

Farrugia said Partit Nazzjonalista will continue its policy of "passive defensiveness." There will be no outright military action against non-violent actions. To deal with the minor economic setback caused by the Sorovian sanctions, the government will find alternative markets and investors. This also may involve the nationalization of the small number of Sorovian assets in the country. Farrugia reminded the Senat that the Imperium Suavidici is Iolanta's largest trade partner. But Partit tal-Ajkla Leader Aysel Cafaroğlu quickly reminded Farrugia that the Imperium is currently in a state of civil war.

Cafaroğlu proposed the Senat to consider renewing economic relations with Alveris, Scalvia, Aubervijr, Rayvostoka, Vyslkolaiva, Tuthia, Ba Feng, and Aria. She warned that if the government cannot find a solution, it is no longer fit to lead and Farrugia should dissolve the Senat for fresh elections.

2024 GENERAL ELECTION POLLS: SOCIALIST PARTY CRUMBLES!
After holding the government for almost 7 years today, the VSP seems to be on the decline. With the most recent scandal regarding a leak of public documents by which several members of the party agreed to deal with public land in exchange of personal favors, the public is punishing the government's party in the latest polls; from 45% to a 30% of the voter outcome. It is still a higher outcome than 1988, but the lowest that the party's had under the Gonzal presidency.

The lead opposition, United Vivanco, has risen to the spotlight with now a 56% of the votes, a shocking increase after the merge between "Vivanco, Forth" and the historic "Reagrupation Party", more keen on right wing policies. On the left of the government, the fractionalism between parties has done nothing but worsen, and with the unknown yet if more parties are to come, it is almost impossible to recover any useful data.

"Flavianis join Suavidici Ambassador protest against Rayvostoka state recognition"
February 8, 2023

6ITuqJL.jpg

In the university town of Claudianum, local residents gathered in the city square to protest against strengthening economic ties with Rayvostoka. This occurred after Suavidici ambassador Anthony Polopolus responded to the recent Senat counter-sanction talks. The Iolantan government is considering proposals to fill in the gaps left by Sorovian economic withdrawal and seek foreign investment and trade opportunities with new partners.

Polopolus demanded the Iolantan government to end diplomatic relations with Rayvostoka. He claimed the Suavidici government, despite the ongoing civil war, has not withdrawn its territorial claims over Rayvostoka and asserted it should be recognized by Iolanta as the "rebellious" province of Palmyra.

Particularly, what Polopolus and the Flavianis found controversial was when Partit tal-Ajkla Leader Aysel Cafaroğlu mentioned Rayvostoka as a potential market for Iolantan trade and investment.

"How dare she speak so callously?" A 23-year-old male protestor said. "Our homeland is suffering and she does not even spare our people from the indignity of ignorance."

He was joined by a 41-year-old man who claimed to be his father. "We must do everything we can to support the Imperium." The father said. "It is a difficult time for our brothers in the old country. We cannot let our people endure more suffering. They already suffered enough."

A 50-year-old female shopkeeper watching the demonstration said, "Most of these people are impressionable high school and college students led by unemployed old men. They are not residents in this town. They just want to create trouble."

In the Senat, Cafaroğlu commented the Flaviani reaction to her statement is an "overreaction." She refused to apologize and called on "patriotic Flavianis" to distance themselves from Imperium Suavidici and "embrace their Iolantan nationality." But Farrugia apologized to Polopolus on her behalf and reassured the ambassador that what Cafaroğlu said, as leader of the opposition, was not representative of Iolantan policy.

Hexastalian Parliament Engages in Heated Debate Over Neutrality Policy

The Hexastalian parliament is currently embroiled in a passionate debate surrounding the country's long standing policy of neutrality. Lawmakers from various political parties have taken the floor to voice their opinions on whether Hexastalia should continue to uphold its neutrality or pursue a more assertive stance in international affairs. The debate has ignited strong emotions and exposed a deep divide within the legislative body.

The policy of neutrality, which has been a cornerstone of Hexastalia's foreign policy for decades, has allowed the country to maintain impartiality in global conflicts and fostered a reputation as a mediator. Proponents argue that neutrality has safeguarded the nation's security, ensured stability, and preserved Hexastalia's sovereignty in an increasingly volatile world.

However, a growing number of parliamentarians are questioning the relevance and effectiveness of neutrality in the modern geopolitical landscape. They argue that maintaining strict neutrality limits Hexastalia's ability to actively engage in global issues and undermines its influence on matters that directly affect the country's interests. They contend that embracing a more proactive and assertive foreign policy could bolster the nation's standing and allow it to contribute to resolving global challenges.

Those in favor of a shift from neutrality, most notably the People’s Party and the Liberal Democratic Party, cite examples of other nations that have successfully pursued a more active foreign policy, playing an influential role in international diplomacy and gaining leverage in economic partnerships. They argue that Hexastalia should leverage its resources, expertise, and values to make a greater impact on global issues, such as human rights, climate change, and regional security.

Opponents of such a shift express concern about potential risks and the loss of Hexastalia's cherished neutrality. They emphasize the importance of maintaining a peaceful and non-aligned position, enabling the country to act as a neutral ground for negotiations and mediations. They warn against entanglement in conflicts and the potential negative consequences of taking sides, which could compromise the country's security and diplomatic relationships. Leading the charge on this side are the Progressive Alliance and Conservative Union, which rarely see eye to eye.

The debate has ignited strong emotions among parliamentarians and engaged citizens across the country. Protests and public demonstrations have erupted in major cities, with both sides passionately advocating for their positions. The media has also played a pivotal role in shaping public opinion, hosting panel discussions and publishing editorials that explore the benefits and drawbacks of both neutrality and a more assertive foreign policy.

Prime Minister Ilona Istvan, a vocal advocate for the repealing of neutrality, has gone on record stating, “It’s time for Hexastalia to take its spot among the great countries of Ethia. The only thing neutrality does is hold us back from attaining the greatness this country always strives to achieve.”
As the debate rages on, parliamentarians grapple with the weighty decision of whether to uphold Hexastalia's long-standing policy of neutrality or embrace a new path of greater involvement in global affairs. The outcome of the debate will not only shape the country's foreign policy but also influence its international standing and relationships with other nations.

The Hexastalian public eagerly awaits the resolution of this crucial debate, as it will shape the country's future role on the world stage and determine its approach to addressing global challenges in the years to come.

"Vaniri emigrants bused to the Iolantan-Sorovian border"
February 26, 2023

nvZOwtN.jpg

Charity organization Refugji Ħolmkom brought Vaniri emigrants to the Iolantan-Sorovian border yesterday. They claimed the emigrants wanted to leave Iolanta to seek shelter in their ancestral homeland.

"Our organization is dedicated to helping refugees," Dario Zammit, the transport coordinator said. "We understand that there are many people around the world who want to settle in a place where they could feel an attachment. A sense of belonging."

Refugji Ħolmkom has been transporting refugees from neighboring countries to safer, more accepting countries. Recently, they have transported 10,000 Aurorean refugees to various temples and charities that offered food and shelter until organizations like Refugji Ħolmkom resettled them in other countries.

But the emigrants themselves could not agree on whether they wanted to leave or go home to their actual residences.

"I'm tired of fighting for the impossible. I clearly don't belong in this country." An anonymous emigrant said. "I have decided to go back to the place of my ancestors. Thank you Refugji Ħolmkom for this opportunity."

A different anonymous emigrant said the opposite: "I don't want to live elsewhere. I know where my home is and it certainly isn't across that border."

"I'm confused," Aino Hakala, 33, pointed at the border fences. "What are we expected to do here? I don't think the Sorovians even want us."

An anonymous emigrant claimed he was only promised a job and was told to bring all of his belongings, which was not difficult because he did not have a lot of money to own many things.

Because of the confusion, many emigrants have opted to stay in place until the night came. Most of them would go to the nearest town and find a bus ride home. Families quickly left the border area to seek immediate shelter for their children. Those who stayed were mostly single and young. They were determined to cross the border. It has been estimated there are nearly 1,000 Vaniri emigrants in the border area. Many have created makeshift tent camps in adjacent parks, parking lots, and empty land.

Sorovia announces deployment of border troops on Iolantan border
350322155_221693443986540_1215996294840571626_n.png

Sorovian conscripts headed toward border stations. More than 900 reservists have been called up to support Sorovian border officials

In response to a sudden surge of migrants headed towards Sorovian borders, Sorovia has taken decisive action by deploying hundreds of its own troops to bolster the effectiveness of its current border security forces. The current situation has been escalating for several weeks as Iolanta has sent what estimates report that hundreds to even thousands of migrants towards the Sorovian border. Official reports from the Sorovian Defence Forces (SDF) and the Sorovian Minister of Defence Pyry Uotila, Sorovia has sent exactly 900 conscripts and border forces to support outnumbered and overwhelmed Sorovian border agents.

Publically released videos from both sides of the border have shown these migrants living in terrible living conditions, these shelters appear to be in tents, sleeping bags, or makeshift beds under branches. These shelters have been recorded as being on sidewalks, parking lots, forests, and empty land. The Sorovian government has yet to announce plans to aid these migrants and has only publically announced troop deployments after a 'calm' emergency meeting between government and military staff. The Sorovian government has stated that these troop deployments are to secure Sorovia's borders from external threats and to protect Sorovian sovereignty, those threats are the migrants who have been trying to cross the Sorovian-Iolantan border for the last few days. Sorovian Minister of Defence Asseri Kemppainen has stated in a public interview "We have witnessed a significant increase in migration flows, which poses challenges to our border officials and security forces. The deployment of troops is a proactive measure to strengthen our border control capabilities and effectively manage the situation. The deployment of our troops is not meant to be aggressive, but rather a show of strength to deter any potential threats. We are working closely with our border officials to ensure that individuals are treated with respect and that proper protocols are in place to address humanitarian needs." when asked about the topic of Sorovia's humanitarian issues on the border zone.

Videos from both Sorovian and Iolantan sources have shown Sorovian border forces and troops unloading barbed wire and other materials from trucks, the Sorovian government has yet to officially respond to these claims, but it is likely that the Sorovian military plans to dig in on its side of the border until Iolanta takes these migrants back home. In recent interviews with civilians who live near the border, they have stated that they are happy with the Sorovian military's involvement, with it being reported that Sorovian police activity has actually spiked in these regions, one of these citizens, Laimi Koivula, has stated that she feels safer and better with a stronger police and military present in her quiet border town. Sorovian border officials have been making the rounds in Sorovian border towns to ensure the safety of Sorovian officials from illegal migrants who may cross the border. It is believed that under current circumstances the SDF may be planning to send additional forces and police toward the border zone if needed.

"Comitianus: The Sorovian government is overreacting"
February 28, 2023

0yclVBE.jpg

In a press conference at Casa Gazzella, Foreign Minister Valent Comitianus dismissed concerns about the recent Sorovian military deployment to the border and called on the Sorovian government to "act responsibly."

"Let us be clear in this: First, the Iolantan government has nothing to do with the so-called 'illegal migration' at the border. Therefore, we have no responsibility to take them back. Second, we are working to prevent this from occurring. We have begun an investigation on Refugji Ħolmkom, the organization responsible for transporting the migrants to the border."

When he was asked about the Iolantan ambassador's meeting with Sorovian foreign minister Kanvera, he reassured the public that the meeting was "civil" and "points have been exchanged and considered." The Iolantan ambassador informed Kanvera about the Iolantan government's position on the illegal migrants. Kanvera refused to accept the Iolantan ambassador's explanation. In response, the Iolantan ambassador warned Kanvera that there can be no negotiation if the Sorovian government is unwilling to reach an agreement on the "basic facts of the situation."

Furthermore, Comitianus denied accusations that the Iolantan government in its relationship with the Vaniri people and certain cultural groups has been "ineffective, corrupt, and needing reform." He said, "These baseless accusations spit on the dignity of the State of Iolanta. There is no need to change anything in our democracy, in our way of life." Comitianus went on to praise the efforts of his fellow ministers in the Farrugia government, his fellow senators, and the Supreme Court for ensuring that "the Iolantan system is always working."

Comitianus concluded that he will ask Governor-General Jasmine Caffari to summon the Sorovian ambassador at Palazz tal-Gvernatur to negotiate de-escalation, starting with a basic agreement on the withdrawal of Kanvera's remarks on the Iolantan political system and its policies on the Vaniri people.

SCALVIAN FEDERATION

Statement on the Sorovia-Iolanta Border Crisis

Following discussions with the Government of the Vaigan Republic, and following a discussion within cabinet, the Scalvian Federation is prepared to offer a solution to the present border crisis.
The Proposal consists of five main points:
1.) Scalvia will receive the refugees presently on the Sorovian Border.
2.) Scalvia will assist Sorovia in establishing a legal framework for immigration to Sorovia.
3.) Until such time as Sorovia has established such a framework, but not more than six months after this announcement, Scalvia is prepared to receive further refugees.
4.) Iolanta will cease its racist treatment of ethnic Vanniri peoples, including by passing legislation to legally make them equal to all Iolantans immediately.
5.) Iolanta will take responsible action to prevent significant waves of people overwhelming border security forces.

Scalvia is prepared to take measures to encourage both parties to accept:
Should Iolanta find these reasonable and responsible measures unacceptable, Scalvia will introduce economic and political sanctions against Iolanta. Should Iolanta accept, Scalvia will release 200mn IBU worth of development aid, that has been withheld until now.
Should Sorovia find these reasonable and responsible measures unacceptable, the Scalvian Defence Forces will withdraw from major planned joint exercises, and will not provide assistance in the present border crisis, should it become necessary. Should Sorovia accept, Scalvia will provide 430mn IBU worth of Defence Assistance for the purchase of ammunition, development of infrastructure, and the development of the Sorovian Navy's Offshore Patrol Capabilities.
We look forward to the responses, and hope that a quick, lasting, and responsible resolution may be found.

Sorovian parliament votes against Scalvian border proposal
7917aaf6b7a14c30aa8e51d2afad3548.jpg

Sorovian Military Police at the Sorovo-Iolantan border

In a recent development, the Sorovian Parliament has voted against a Scalvian proposal that would enable the legal framework for immigration to the migrants currently on the Sorovo-Iolantan border. The proposal, proposed by the Scalvian Federation, aimed at finding a humanitarian and diplomatic solution to the current border crisis, faced harsh resistance from Sorovian political parties and the Sorovian parliament. This led to a nearly unanimous decision to vote against the proposal. The proposal, which went through the chambers of parliament failed to pass with a nearly unanimous decision by all political parties, including the less likely parties like Labour.

Republic, Sorovia's largest right-wing populist political party voted against the proposal, citing concerns over security, and Sorovian control over its own borders. The National Coalition Party, Moderates, and Centre party also supported Republic in voting against the bill, the parties emphasizing the importance of Sorovia's sovereignty and democratic obligation to defend itself from authoritarian nations like Iolanta. Which, they viewed the proposal's acceptance as compromising Sorovia's borders and control over immigration policies. The National Coalition Party considered the proposal but voted against the proposal to focus on Sorovia's national interests and security concerns while recognizing the humanitarian concerns on the border region. In interviews with Ohto Nykänen, head of Republic, he stated "We prioritize Sorovia's sovereignty and national security above all else. While we appreciate the humanitarian aspect of the proposal, we cannot compromise the control we have over our borders and immigration policies."; these opinions are shared by many Sorovian citizens too, with many on the streets saying that they support their government's decision to reject the proposal.

As the situation evolves, it is believed that the Aurorian community is closely watching the crisis and Sorovia's response. While Sorovia's rejection of the Scalvian proposal comes as a shock to many and not a shock to many others, it is still believed that calls for diplomatic solutions still exist within the halls of parliament, just not under the Scalvian proposal. Many politicians have been praised for their response to the situation, calling for the safeguarding of the Sorovian people and its borders, and also bringing praise for Sorovia's determination to independently handle the current border crisis.

In a public statement given by the Sorovian Labour Party, they state: "Labour stands with the rest of the country in expressing our grave concerns over the escalating border crisis and its impact on those affected. As a party deeply committed to humanitarian principles, we believe that it is our duty to uphold Sorovia's values of compassion and support for those in need, while also safeguarding the country's national security and sovereignty. We stand with our government's decision to reject the recent Scalvian proposal, as Sorovia must assert control over its borders and immigration policies. However, we also firmly believe that diplomatic engagement and international cooperation are essential in finding a comprehensive and sustainable solution to the crisis. We urge the government to continue providing aid and support to migrants within our capacity while ensuring the well-being and safety of our citizens. The mistreatment of ethnic Vanniri in Iolanta is deeply concerning and has strained our bilateral relations. We call on Iolanta to take immediate action to end such discriminatory practices and pass legislation to legally ensure equal rights for all citizens, irrespective of their ethnicity. Labour is ready to work alongside other political parties, civil society, and the government to find a balanced and humane approach to the border crisis. Unity is key to overcoming these challenging times and demonstrating to the world that Sorovia remains committed to its humanitarian values and national security. In the meantime, Labour shall continue to support the wishes and actions of its government by supporting the deployment of additional border troops to deal with the Crisis. We have also received support in keeping diplomatic channels open in the event additional dialogue and cooperation is needed."

STATEMENT BY THE MINISTRY OF FOREIGN AFFAIRS OF THE PEOPLE’S REPUBLIC OF RAYVOSTOKA ON THE ONGOING BORDER CRISIS BETWEEN THE REPUBLIC OF SOROVIA AND THE STATE OF ETIYA
July, 24th 2023

The unfortunate circumstances surrounding the ongoing border crisis with Iolanta have required the People’s Republic of Rayvostoka to declare its full and unwavering support for the Sorovian Government and its decision to maintain its territorial sovereignty and border integrity. Alongside this, the People’s Republic must also recognize the need by Sorovia to resist the racist and discriminatory authoritarian State of Etiya and its vile attempts to use vulnerable and oppressed people as political tools against their neighbours.

Therefore the People’s Republic of Rayvostoka will also support any action taken by the Sorovians to preserve their sovereignty and national security from those that would seek to exploit them. And although compromise would by most accounts be the first course of action for any other nation in this situation. But the policy of appeasement is not something which Rayvostoka seeks to emulate, and for that reason must also one hundred per cent support the demands issued by the Sorovians.

Sorovia is a trusted state, one which the People’s Republic will always call a friend. So in that same vein, the People’s Republic of Rayvostoka will never back down when supporting a friend such as Rayvostoka and as such will also be increasing the shipments of arms which already have been sent to Sorovia. And will be providing financial aid to assist with the ongoing humanitarian crisis. Because we believe that in the end, Sorovia will prevail.

Solidarity Forever!

Foreign Minister, Vera Federova

SBC NEWS

Interview with Chair of Parliamentary Foreign Affairs Committee

The Chair of the Standing Committee on Foreign Affairs and International Development kindly agreed to give SBC News a short interview after Sorovia's rejection of Scalvia's proposed resolution to the border crisis.

What are your views on the Sorovian Decision?

In my opinion the Sorovians of course have the right to decline our proposal, but I believe it is extremely irresponsible and uncaring of human lives. Our proposal was a genuine good faith attempt to cool tensions in the region, and we of course will implement the measures we promised to do.

Why do you believe so?

I believe the Sorovians are not looking at the situation in an empathetic way that has any care for human life. This is a situation that could easily careen off to war. The Sorovians believe they could win such a war. Let's assume this is true, it would still nevertheless cost many lives. We here are a perfect example. We got the upper hand in the war against the Aurorea relatively quickly, but our Defence Forces paid a price in blood. The Sorovians seem ready to fight a war, which by the way, in my view, they have no guarantee of winning without major outside assistance. They failed to even consider our good faith, fair proposal and shot it down immediately. This is fully within their rights, but it is also within our rights to take measures in response, as a war would adversely affect Scalvia.

But did Scalvia not fight a war very recently?

As I mentioned, we did, but that was once all diplomatic options had been exhausted. We tried to negotiate for weeks, and only took measures in self-defence once we were left with no other option but to take action. It seems to me, that Sorovia is unwilling to move on diplomacy, and is instead looking for a fight. We all of course agree that the Iolantan regime is abhorrent, of course, there is no argument from us over that, but the Sorovians seem to see fighting as the only way forward, which I believe to be callous and immensely unreasonable. A war, even if Sorovian won, would bring significant hardship to Sorovia.

What actions will Scalvia take?

Well, we outlined that Scalvia would not be taking part in major planned joint military exercises. Additionally, we are considering levying tariffs as a pain measure, but we'll see once Parliament sits in September.

Why is Scalvia so adamant on a diplomatic solution to the conflict?

It is quite simple. War is a zero sum game, everyone loses, including countries around the fighting. We want to avoid the bloodshed that would most certainly be significant, even if Sorovia could win. They would lose thousands of troops, and it would cost the economy billions of IBU, certainly.

Why do you believe Sorovia declined Scalvia's proposal?

Well I will outline up front that this is speculation on my part. I believe that this is a two pronged issue for them: first their mistrust of Iolanta, which is, in fairness, warranted, and second, their distrust of the refugees, which is not. It is baffling to me that Sorovia is unwilling to accept people of its own ethnicity who are persecuted in Iolanta to bring them to a country that will accept them. The justification for this is laughable: they fear that they have been turned against Sorovia. So what? That can be undone. Just by how you treat them as equal citizens you are already destroying Iolantan propaganda. We even offered to take pressure off Sorovia by receiving these refugees for six months, while they created a framework to provide for legal immigration. The fact that they're ready to leave people of their own blood to suffer, while they have a chance to do something without spilling gallons of blood scream callousness to me. On the first point, of course they have reason to distrust Iolanta, but we provided guarantees that should Iolanta not follow through on its end of the deal, Scalvia would impose heavy sanctions on Iolanta, which I have been told, our diplomats in Iolanta were contacted for talks about the proposal.

Hexastalia Breaks Neutrality: Parliament Votes for an Engaged Diplomatic Future

In a pivotal moment for the nation, the Parliament of Hexastalia has voted to abolish the country’s long-standing policy of neutrality in world affairs. The intense debate over the last weeks culminated in a final vote, which resulted in a narrow but decisive victory for those who advocated for Hexastalia leaving behind the Neutrality Policy. This landmark decision marks a significant change in Hexastalia’s foreign policy and opens the door to a new era of diplomacy.

In an explosive and electrifying session, lawmakers from the various parties passionately expressed their arguments one last time before their colleagues. The chamber was charged as parliamentarians debated the potential consequences of the historic vote. Tensions ran high, reflecting the weight of the decision on the country’s future role in international affairs.

Ultimately, the motion to abolish the Neutrality Policy was passed through by a not-quite-close majority. Proponents of the success, including Prime Minister Istvan, celebrated the decision as a moment of courage and progress, asserting that Hexastalia’s voice, and the voice of its people’s will, would now finally be heard on the world stage. They emphasized the nation’s potential to promote peace, human rights, and global stability and change through active engagement and responsible diplomacy.

Prime Minister Ilona Istvan said in a speech after the vote, “Today, we have embraced our new position in the world. We have chosen to stand shoulder to shoulder with our fellow nations, to address the world’s challenges together. Hexastalia will no longer be a spectator. We will be a key player in shaping the future which we want to see. In this new age, we will seek closer ties with the great democracies of Auroria and the world, especially those of Scalvia, Sorovia, and Esthursia. We will seek a brighter future together.”

As Hexastalia navigates these murky waters, the government is expected to articulate its new foreign policy strategy and engage with various partners throughout Ethia, Auroria, and beyond. Many citizens are both hopeful and anxious about what lies ahead, understanding the opportunities and the responsibilities that come from this new decision.

In an interview, parliamentarian Zselyke Kóbor, a prominent member of the crumbling Progressive Alliance party, had this to say about the decision, “I understand that this is the future which has been voted for. However I remain uncertain if it is the right future for this country.”

The vote to abolish the Neutrality Policy marks a defining moment in Hexastalian history. The nation now stands at the precipice of a new chapter, a chapter that will shape its place in world affairs. The journey laid out before the country will undoubtedly be challenging, but it also holds the promise of a better future, if only we reach out and seize it.

State-of-the-Art Rayvostokan Submarine, to be deployed to the Crystal Sea

9gYD1Qj.jpg

A Revolyutsiya-class Submarine (Credit: Rayvostokan People's Navy)
As tensions begin to heighten in Auroria with the ongoing civil war in the Imperium and over the ongoing border crisis between the Sorovian Republic and the State of Etiya. The People's Republic of Rayvostoka has announced the rollout and deployment of yet another state-of-the-art Revolyutsiya class submarine into the Crystal Sea. This marks the fifth such deployment by the Rayvostokan navy into the region with the four previous deployments taking place sporadically from 2014-2022. With much public attention being garnered on the submarine's advanced overall stealth and combat capabilities.

First designed in the early 2000s, the Revolyutsiya class was scheduled to first be deployed in the latter half of 2006, but due to budget constraints alongside several shuffles in leadership, the project suffered delays lasting up until 2014 where an updated version of the original design was deployed to the Crystal Sea. With subsequent launches going off successfully, each improving on the design's technical capabilities.

The current ship model is the most advanced of the series, being equipped with both a new and more efficient nuclear reactor and a wholly new surface search radar system. This is alongside new and updated electronic surveillance instruments and to it nuclear cruise missile guidance systems and Vertical launch systems, those of which were not detailed in the statement given by the Rayvostokan government. With these upgrades making the newly deployed submarine one of the most formidable ever fielded by Rayvostoka.

Its mission in the Crystal Sea currently remains unknown with some experts claiming that it could be used to conduct surveillance on the ongoing conflict in the Imperium, with others saying it could venture out to patrol the nearby faraway or even the Boreas Straits. Though other experts have provided conflicting reports to as the validity of these claims.

Overall, much of the details surrounding the vessel's purpose remain unknown, with many still wondering whether or not the deployment of this ship marks the beginning of a new naval technological era for the Rayvostokans and if it does what that means for the wider region of Auroria's future.

OOC NOTICE: Months have passed to adjust to the date "July 24, 2023" written in Gap's post. I decided to accept that. It makes sense for time to have passed with reports of different parliaments passing resolutions or "thousands" coming into Scalvia as Art described in his post.

Iolanta Chamber of Commerce: "We are concerned about sanctions"
June 10, 2023

IShnMRX.jpg

Alessandro Farrugia, President of the Iolanta Chamber of Commerce, read a statement on behalf of the Chamber expressing their dismay at the government for its slow progress on resolving the issues surrounding the sanctions imposed by the governments of Sorovia and Esthursia.

Although there have been no further sanctions, Farrugia said that the official responses from the governments of Esthursia, Scalvia, Hexastalia, and Rayvostoka have "unsettled many businessmen." He admitted, speaking for the Chamber, "We are concerned about sanctions."

Farrugia explained that, for the longest time, governments have only been "diplomatic." It was small but progress was still made on the Vaniri people and the issue of Separate Development Laws. "But yes." Farrugia said, "There have been talks of sanctions since 2003. But this is the first time that governments actually acted on this concern."

In the statement he read, the Chamber called on the government to make "significant concessions." They fear, that if the government limited the concession, Scalvia might not accept and it would complicate the situation since the Sorovian government had already rejected the five-point proposal from Scalvian foreign minister Hardijs Baumanis. "This opportunity of negotiation should not be wasted." Farrugia read. "The Chamber would like to stress the importance of taking action now. Later on, we might have fewer options and only difficult choices."

The Chamber of Commerce, Farrugia claimed, is prepared to assist the government in reaching a compromise with concerned governments to ensure economic stability for Iolanta and Auroria.

But Farrugia clarified that the statement is not a message of support for "any side" of the Separate Development issue. The statement, he said, is only an "urgent message" aimed towards the government.

Senat accepts Scalvian proposals, Farrugia calls Sorovia "uncooperative"
July 25, 2023

bWDzqLR.jpg

After months of tense debate and unrest, the Senat narrowly voted to accept the Scalvian proposals in a vote of 53-47. But Prime Minister Farrugia explained that change cannot happen "overnight."

The new Scalvian Proposals Law only authorizes the government to begin negotiations, within the framework of the Scalvian proposals, with the governments of Scalvia and, despite their rejection, Sorovia. He said Scalvian foreign minister Hardijs Baumanis might have "aimed too high" when he made his proposals. "The Baumanis Five Points cannot be implemented immediately." Farrugia said. "There needs to be a comprehensive reform program. More importantly, Sorovian cooperation."

On the fourth point, to "cease [Iolanta's] racist treatment of ethnic Vaniri peoples, [...] make them equal to all Iolantans immediately." Farrugia said that a constitutional amendment is needed. In the current Constitution, the Vaniri people have separate citizenship from regular Iolantans.

Human rights activist Jaakoppi Cannataci was surprised by the concession made by the government on the fourth point. "Good Neighbor Laws such as separate citizenship allowed the government to control Vaniri access to public education and welfare services." Cannataci explained. "The use of different passports restricted Vaniri travel, residence, and employment in more developed areas of the country." This limited most Vaniri citizens to "cramped city ghettos" and "relocation sites far away from the cities."

But Farrugia refused to elaborate further on whether separate Vaniri citizenship will be abolished or not. Cannataci speculates that Farrugia might not need an amendment to achieve the "bare minimum." The government could just change existing laws to expand Vaniri access to services and places.

Farrugia was more enthusiastic with the fifth point. He said, "Iolanta is now prepared to prevent further illegal migration into Sorovia. The Iolantan Police Force is ready to cooperate with Sorovia authorities. We are ready to bring Iolantans back home."

Farrugia is "disappointed" that the Sorovian government did not even consider one or two points from Baumanis. "Unlike Sorovia, which has been uncooperative, the Iolantan government is prepared to reach a compromise to ensure peace and stability in the region."

Baumanis proposal sparks riots in Güney Antalya
July 29, 2023

d92aqh9.jpg

Thousands of demonstrators outside Il-Palazz tas-Senat have turned to mass violence and vandalism. Vulnerable areas of Güney Antalya have been overrun in the past three days.

The mass demonstration that began last Monday to protest their opposition against the Sorovian Proposals Bill was peaceful with few incidents. The entire event was organized by Partit tal-Ajkla, the leading opposition party. Their leader Aysel Cafaroğlu spoke for two days about the "threat of liberalism" and that the sanctions are proof of a "new age of cultural imperialism led by Saintonge." It was when the Senat voted to approve the bill that the situation escalated.

Police officers have constructed a temporary fenced perimeter around Il-Palazz tas-Senat to prevent unauthorized entry. But this only diverted demonstrators-turned-rioters to the nearby Old Harbor Cultural District. Outside the National Museum of Natural History, cars were overturned and benches were ripped off from the sidewalks. Rioters stormed a parking garage and attempted to break into Independence Commercial Center but were prevented by additional police reinforcements.

Commissioner of Police Jarad Degiorgio reminded residents in Old Harbor Cultural District, King's Gate, and Auberge de Etiya to observe the curfew between 10:00 PM - 4:00 AM and stay indoors. Degiorgio assured citizens that all emergency services are active and prepared to respond.

Predice Carrier Strike Group to deploy to Auroria

IMG_1563.jpg

OTRANTA, LAZ -- The Aircraft Carrier Predice, flagship of the Ember Sea Fleet and the entire Predicean Navy slipped anchor today from her base at Otranta to begin a voyage to Auroria.

Tensions
The Predice goes on its Aurorian voyage during a time of instability and crisis in Auroria. The Imperium is in civil war, while a flashpoint crisis in Ethia threatens to spill over into open conflict. The Sorovo-Iolantan border crisis has plunged the region to the brink of yet anther war. Iolanta, or more formally, Etiya, is a realm of the Predicean Crown, though Predice and Etiya have not enjoyed as close relations as that status may suggest since Etiya's independence in 2004. A particular sticking point has been Etiya's discriminatory policies towards local minorities.
This changed, however, with Etiya announcing their readiness to negotiate under the Scalvian settlement. Sorovia has thus far been unwilling to negotiate. Predice, still formally obligated to defend Etiya, has now finally taken action, following Etiya's decision to move towards an end to their discriminstory policies, which was met with civil unrest in Güney Antalya.

Predice responds

Predice has publicly announced its support for the end of the discriminatory policies in Etiya, and a peaceful solution to the Border crisis. Thus, to discourage "reckless action," Predice announced the deployment of a carrier strike group from Predice's Ember Sea Fleet, composed of the Aircraft Carrier Predice, [/I]Destroyers Luciano di Cozzolino, Giorgio Maria di Leandro, Francesco Geronimo Fazzina, Raimondo Montecuccoli, Frigates Antofagosta, Borghese, Trino, Chievento, and the LPD Santo Stefano, as well as a classified submarine escort. In addition, a composite marine battalion will accompany the group, and an airborne battalion has already been airlifted to Etiya to help the government deal with the civil unrest. This is a deep commitment to Etiya from Predice, and a statement to Sorovia to work to find a peaceful solution with Iolanta.
This deployment represents Predice's largest foreign deployment of force since the Five Day War.

Uncertain prospects
While Predice's show of force is significant, it is not certain what message it will send to countries in the region. Predice's backing of Etiya is certain to put the Government in a stronger negotiating position, and might force Sorovia to talk, however it could also antagonise Scalvia, Hexastalia, and Esthursia, who are against foreign intervention in Aurorian affaris. It is to be seen how they respond to this major move, however one thing is certain: war is now off the table.

Special Board of Administration Bans Zoos Within Mission Territory

By Zoey Patel

In a landmark decision, the Special Board of Administration (SBA) of the Jeltronian WA Mission passed a new law prohibiting the establishment of zoos within the Mission's territory. The SBA, acting as the legislature and judicial organ of the Jeltronian WA Mission, took this step to promote animal welfare and conservation efforts while providing exemptions for animal sanctuaries and independent shelters dedicated to endangered species.

The SBA, composed of nine members, including the ex officio seat occupied by the First Secretary-World Assembly Ambassador, holds significant responsibilities in shaping the governance and legal framework of the Jeltronian WA Mission. The recent legislation enacted by the SBA takes a progressive stance on animal welfare and conservation, with the explicit goal of protecting wildlife and their habitats. Under the new law, the establishment of traditional zoos within the Mission's territory is strictly prohibited. Instead, the focus is on fostering sanctuaries and independent shelters dedicated to endangered species, thereby ensuring the well-being and preservation of vulnerable animals.

The office of the First Secretary-WA Ambassador, expressed the significance of this decision, stating, "The prohibition of zoos reflects our commitment to safeguarding the lives and dignity of animals within the Mission's territory. We believe in providing a safe haven for endangered species, where they can thrive under ethical care and protection."

The law aligns with the Mission's commitment to environmental stewardship. By restricting the establishment of zoos, the Mission aims to encourage more sustainable practices in animal conservation, promote education on endangered species, and create awareness about the importance of preserving wildlife for future generations.

Animal rights activists and conservationists have lauded the SBA's decision, hailing it as a significant step forward in animal welfare policy. The Animal Rescue Fund, which signed an agreement with the Mission administration last week to open a veterinary hospital said that the progressive approach will set a positive example for other nations and entities within the World Assembly, encouraging them to offer a compassionate alternative to zoos that prioritizes animal welfare over profits.

The law, once enacted, will be subject to judicial scrutiny, and any appeals will be handled by the High Court of Jeltronia, although no significant opposition is expected.

MINISTRY OF FOREIGN AFFAIRS
MOST SERENE STATE OF PREDICE

Statement on the Etiyan-Sorovian Border Crisis

The Most Serene State of Predice in fulfilling her obligations to defend the State of Etiya has deployed a Carrier Strike Group to Auroria. This is in response to irresponsible and reckless Sorovian sabre rattling towards the State of Etiya. Predice has taken this action reluctantly, and only after intense discussions. Predice finally made the decision to deploy when Etiya indicated that it was willing to negotiate, including repealing institutionalised segregation.
Sorovia's actions, on the contrary have shown no willingness to negotiate. Instead, the Sorovians have moved to aggressively bend Etiya to its will. It is the opinion of the Most Serene State of Predice, that the only possible lasting solution includes Etiya. As such Predice's deployment of Naval Capabilities is purely to enhance the defence of Etiya and discourage Sorovia pursuing a military solution to the crisis. It is deeply regrettable and a sorrowful display of faux-humanitarianism, that other countries in the region back the warmongering position presently held by the Sorovian Government and not the diplomatic and peaceful position held by Etiya.

MINISTRY OF FOREIGN AFFAIRS
MOST SERENE STATE OF PREDICE

Statement on the inflammatory statements of The Esthursian Government

The Most Serene State of Predice most fervently condemns the characterisation of its actions in Auroria as an "intervention". Predice's measures were taken in order to defend a country receiving threats from another country. It is disgusting and shocking that the Government of Esthursia is claiming to back a peaceful solution, while at the same time backing a warmongering government that has shown no willingness to negotiate. To call a military solution as "addressing the situation" is a disgusting and sorrowful mischaracterisation of violent military action. To characterise Predice's responsible actions as "threatening peace" is a total and complete misrepresentation of the truth. The truth is the complete opposite. While Esthursia has carried out zero measures to discourage military action, Predice has taken action, honouring a bilateral agreement, and defending peace, has regrettably been more than Esthursia has done for peace in this conflict. It is also absolutely disgusting to hide behind people involved in a humanitarian crisis as a shield, when the Esthursian Government doesn't seem to have any real care about the welfare of those involved. To summarise: It is regrettable that Esthursia is unwilling to reconsider a position because of a country's past transgressions. They are unwilling to consider Etiya's good faith and legitimate attempts to negotiate, to the detriment of those under the racal segregation policies, while Sorovia has made no such attempts. Indeed, their entire position hinges on the understanding that Sorovia is willing to negotiate, an understanding that does not conform to the facts of the situation. Predice would like to assure countries in the region that Predice's Military support of Etiya is contingent on it following through, and indeed negotiating in good faith, which is likely they will do, should Sorovia finally accept negotiations.

RAYVOSTOKAN NAVY TO COME TO SOROVIA'S AID
1PLss7L.jpg

A Rayvostokan Carrier Group en-route to base (Credit: Rayvostokan People's Navy)
Earlier this evening, in response to the stunning announcement of the deployment of a Predicean Carrier Group to the Sorovian Sea. The Foreign Minister of the People's Republic of Rayvostoka, Vera Federova announced in a public statement a full condemnation of the Predicean government's actions in the region going as far to say during a press conference.

"It is the assertion that the actions of the Predicean naval forces in the region of the Sorovian sea are a clear act of Neo-Imperialist aggression. And although it may be cloaked under the guise of liberation or peacekeeping, it only serves as a silent warning to Sorovia. A threat in all but name to force them into a compromise they as a sovereign state do not wish to entertain."

These strong words were then reinforced with strong actions with the Foreign Minister declaring.

"To dissuade from any kind of neo-imperialist aggression, one of Rayvostoka's own carrier fleets alongside an escort of submarines will sail to the international waters of the Sorovian sea to observe and act as an observer in tandem with the Esthursians to prevent any kind of undue conflict."

After this, the Foreign Minister then began to declare Rayvostoka's position on foreign intervention into Auroria.

"At one point or another, almost every Aurorian nation has suffered under the yoke of foreign powers. Forced positions of subservience as their fundamental rights were trampled upon and violated. I know this, as this is the experience of our nation as well as being forced into giving away all the natural wealth of our native lands for the coffers of those who had never even visited.

The age of colonialism has come to an end, the age of empires is over and Imperialist actions as we have seen by the Prediceans by no means will be accepted by us or the peoples of our continent."

The Press conference ended there leaving many to wonder what will be next for the crisis in the Srovian Sea and whether or not the Predicean's will give in to the requests of Aurorian states on the matter of their intervention.

"Brave New Reign?"

The passage of Bill 1134, The Legalization of Marijuana Act, & its subsequent ascension via the new king's signature, was stunning for domestic nationalists in & of itself. Finding out that the final version contains an amendment to slowly began introducing electric cars into the economy, has become historic. 40 NCRA (Nationalist Center Right Alliance) senators of the majority conference voted NAY. The vast majority (40/56) of the aforementioned. This is an unprecedented rightist rebuke of a new king from the party that has always been both praised & criticized for its allegiance to the crown.

The minority NSDU (National Social Democratic Union) party has finally notched a legislative victory. Its first in nearly half a decade. This has sparked concern among NCRA hierarchy if their new sovereign in fact has a liberal streak. Every Justosian king, & queen, has been a nationalist. As obvious is obvious. If this trend continues for Carlos Francisco III, it would mark a rather dramatic turn for the Royal Administration. Though perhaps not totally unexpected as he is the youngest king in Justosian history. Voters 18-34 have started slowly but surely drifting towards the SDU in recent years. The new king is 28.

King Carlos says he's a nationalist. It's also been reported the § to be raked in from the hefty new Cannabis taxation will go mostly to R&D for an unnamed military defense project. A nationalist go to. Anxious nationalists & right leaning Independents of all schools of thought across the kingdom are sure to watch his fledgling reign more closely now.

The Predicean Navy's Ambitious Shipbuilding Program

1373620421.jpg

An Antofagosta-class frigate and Famosa-class high endurance cutter under construction at the San Giuseppe shipyard at Chievento

The Predicean Navy has undergone a major program of expansion, as it works to become a global force.

Submarine Force

1280px-HMS_Ambush_long.jpg

Sciabloa-class Fleet Submarine Stocco (SN 02)

The Predicean Government has determined that Predice's Nuclear Deterrence force will in future be based on four Aurora-class nuclear fueled ballistic missile submarines (SSBNs). Weighing in at 15,900 tonnes submerged, the boats will be capable of carrying sixteen submarine launched ballistic missiles (SLBMs). Predice is currently building two such boats, with a third on order and a fourth planned. The boats are to be named Aurora, Stella, Sole, and Costellazione. These boats are to form the backbone of Predice's strategic nuclear deterrent, with one planned to be on patrol with nuclear weapons at all times.
The Predicean Navy has additionally built five fleet submarines, Predice's official designation for nuclear attack submarines (SSNs). They are of the Sciabola-class, named Sciabola, Stocco, Spadone, Gladio, and Falcione, with another two planned. The Sciabola-class Fleet Submarines displace 7,800 tonnes submerged, and are capable of launching torpedoes, cruise missiles and anti ship missiles. They form the modern backbone of the Predicean Navy's attack submarine force.
The Predicean Navy has long planned a Nuclear Deterrence Force, but funding limitations have always stopped such planning. When Saintonge finally cut steel on its Pouilles-class nuclear ballistic missile submarines, however, Predice finally decided to go forward with its own class of ballistic missile submarines. An effective nuclear deterrent has been considered a key cornerstone of National Defence in Predicean Defence documentation, with nuclear submarines considered the most cost effective and survivable vehicles for the deterrent.
Predice's fleet of nine conventionally powered submarines is planned to eventually be reduced to six, with a long term plan of retiring the conventionally powered subs in favour of nuclear powered submarines.
The total planned fleet is eventually going to number four SSBNs of the Aurora-class, seven SSNs of the Sciabola-class, and five SSNs of a future class.

Carriers

Aircraft Carrier Predice underway

The Predicean Navy has built two Predice-class nuclear powered aircraft carriers, weighing in at 65,000 tonnes and capable of carrying up to seventy aircraft. Predice and Grandoge were built so that Predice would not be left without a carrier when one is in maintenance. The ships are meant to project long range naval aviation for fleet air defence and power projection. Capable of advancing and defending Predicean interests overseas, the carriers represent the largest and most capable such vessels in Northern Meterra. The standard fighter complement consists of 36 CC-18Ms, a redesign of the land-based CC-18, incorporating reinforced landing gear, an arrestor hook, and increased fuel stores, the fighters provide the primary fixed wing naval aviation capability of the Predicean Navy.
The Regioni-class LHDs are fitted with ski jumps, allowing for the launch of Short takeoff/vertical landing aircraft, with the Predicean Navy currently planning to acquire 36 such aircraft for its three Regioni-class LHDs.

Major Surface Combatants

1920px-HMS_Duncan_-_1.jpg

Luciano di Cozzolino-class Destroyer Vladimiro Zerbo entering Otranta Naval Base

The Predicean Navy has initiated three major Surface Combatant projects.
Firstly there is the Heavy Anti Air Warfare Destroyer (Cacciatorpediniere pesante da guerra antiaerea) project, now designated the Luciano di Cozzolino-class destroyer. The ships were designed as a more capable version of the Bonifacio Ulderico Mendicino (Saintes)-class ships, being heavier at 8,500 tonnes at full load, and with a heavier armament of 72 VLS cells as compared to the 48 cells of the Bonifacio Ulderico Mendicino-class destroyer. The destroyers were designed with Carrier escort in mind, with a longer range and more area air defence capability. The Predicean Navy has planned for a class of eight ships, with two in service, two under construction, two on order and two planned. The ships are named Luciano di Cozzolino (in service), Vladimiro Zerbo (in service), Francesco Giovenzio Sabino (under construction), Ludovico Ferroni (under construction), Alessandro Michele Alessio (on order), Andrea Carluccio (on order), and two as yet unnamed vessels that are planned.
Secondly there is the Airspace Control Vessel (Nave di controllo dello spazio aereo) project, eventually designated as the Fortuna-class Cruiser. The Airspace Control Vessel, equipped with a long range AESA radar, and armed with 128 VLS cells. Capable of long range air defence and providing targeting data to Predice's anti air warfare (AAW) destroyers, the cruisers are meant to act as airspace control vessels for carrier strike groups. The Fortuna-class Cruisers were designed on an enlarged Bonifacio Ulderico Mendicino (Saintes)-class hull, coming in at 180m long, and weighing in at 11,500 tonnes. Predice has planned up to eight of these international benchmark vessels, with one fitting out, two under construction, and one on order. The ships are Fortuna (fitting out), Gloria (under construction) Vendetta (under construction), Intrepido (on order, first steel to be cut in late August). The Airspace Control Vessel idea has also reportedly been adopted by Saintonge, who have decided to go with the general Fortuna design, though with allowances made for Santonian equipment. Saintonge is currently in the early phases of procurement and no final decision on numbers has yet been made.
Thirdly there is the least developed project, the Lightweight Frigate (Fregata leggera) project, planned to replace the heavy Antofagosta-class frigate (6,700 tonnes displacement) in some roles. The Lightweight Frigate is meant to weigh from 2,800 to 3,100 tonnes with major savings in crew over the Antofagosta-class frigate, internationally sometimes called a destroyer. The Lightweight Frigate's role is meant to be littoral combat, a role it will replace the Antofagosta-class frigate in. In addition, the defence of Predice's waters up to its EEZ, a role the Navy will collaborate with the Revenue Cutter Service in. It has been rumoured that an armed version of the Heavy Offshore Patrol Vessel currently being designed by Saintonge is being considered for this role.

Revenue Cutter Service

IMG_1879.png

Famosa preparing to be launched, 2019

Though not part of the Predicean Navy legally in peacetime, His Serenity's Revenue Cutter Service is considered legally part of the Armed Forces of Predice, and is a mostly maritime force.
The Revenue Cutter Service has two major projects.
Firstly, the High Endurance Cutter (Cutter ad alta autonomia) project, now known as the Famosa-class cutter, meant to stay at sea for up to 90 days at a time. The Famosa-class cutters are just smaller than the Antofagosta-class frigates, coming in at 143m long, and weighing in at 5,830 tonnes in its peacetime full load configuration and 6,270 tonnes in its wartime full load configuration. the ships were designed with a dual role in mind; in peacetime they would act as the Revenue Cutter Service's largest offshore patrol assets, but in wartime, they could be rapidly converted to frigates for frontline combat duty. The vessels are thus fitted for but not with various armaments, such as 16 VLS cells and eight anti ship missile launchers. Already built with all the sensors and electronics required to accomodate these weapons, the Famosa-class cutters would only need a short refit in wartime to be slotted into their frigate role. The Revenue Cutter Service is planning 11 vessels of the Famosa-class, with two completed and in service, one undergoing sea trials, one fitting out, four on order, and three additional ships planned.
Secondly, there is the Future Medium Endurance Cutter (Future Cutter a media autonomia), planned to eventually replace the Capitani-class Medium Endurance Cutters. The vessels are planned to displace over double that of the Capitani-class at close to 4,000 tonnes at full load. With a planned endurance of up to 21 days, the ships are planned to act in conjunction with the Famosa-class cutters in offshore patrol missions. The Revenue Cutter Service is planning to acquire 16 such vessels, which would be a cut of two vessels as compared to the Capitani-class, but with each Future Medium Endurance Cutter being larger and more capable than a Capitani-class, the reality is that the Revenue Cutter Service will have to expand in personnel numbers to accommodate the smaller fleet.

Other Acquisitions

The Predicean Navy has also announced that it will be acquiring new fleet support vessels, including up to six new underway replenishment ships, and up to five new fleet oilers. Plans have also been announced for up to six multipurpose amphibious support vessels, capable of acting as amphibious landing ships, but also as hospital ships, and other roles. Notably, the Predicean Navy has decided against purpose built hospital ships, an idea that the Royal Santonian Navy has enthusiastically embraced. Justifying the decision, Admiral Vincenzo Prosperi stated "The Combat Capability of the Predicean Navy is our primary priority. Purpose built hospital ships are not needed for a combat fleet, and they also take away funds from combat units. That is why we have decided not to go forward with purpose built hospital ships."

Conclusion

The Predicean Navy's program of shipbuilding, in truth going on since the late 2000s, is well on its way to transforming the Predicean Navy from a backwater fleet to a Global Force with Regionally Superior capabilities. Though much is yet to be done, and challenges and hurdles are still on the path of the Predicean Navy's future expansion, it is clear that the Predicean Navy is already a capable offensive force, with only more capabilities on the way

Ukelect Covinn News

Greetings. You are currently perusing a distinguished Ukelect Covinn News article. "Covinn" translates to "World" in our native tongue. Our commitment is to furnish you with the most recent updates that will illuminate your understanding of global current affairs.

A Remarkable Achievement: Completion of One of the Tallest Hotel Skyscrapers

In a significant feat, a newly erected skyscraper has been successfully completed a mere few days ago. This architectural marvel stands as one of the loftiest skyscrapers within the Ukelect region and has commenced its official operation as a luxurious hotel establishment. Officially named "The Crystal Tower," this imposing edifice reaches an astounding height of 763 meters. The exterior façade predominantly features robust and opulent glass panels, imbuing the structure with a resplendent gleam, particularly on sunlit days.

Contrary to Speculation: Unveiling the Unexpected Location

Curiously, upon hearing the news, widespread speculation immediately pointed towards the central hub of New Care city as the chosen site for this grandiose creation. However, this conjecture has proven to be erroneous. The tower's location has been revealed to be nestled in the northeastern enclave of The City of New Care, situated in proximity to the verdant woodland expanse surrounding the township. Specifically positioned between Blobburg Town and Coastal Bloomford, this strategic placement lends a distinctive and picturesque vista when observed from an elevated standpoint.

IMG-20230816-WA0057.jpg
The Crystal Tower located in between Bloomford
and Blobburg

Katori Tower: A Symbol of Excellence by Katori Manufacturing

The tower is also eminently recognized as the "Katori Tower," this architectural masterpiece owes its name to the prominent inscription of "Katori" adorning the structure's right flank. "Katori" designates the esteemed manufacturing company responsible for its creation. This company has earned renown for crafting premium, five-star quality buildings, thereby establishing an impeccable reputation within the industry. Evidently, the company's stellar reputation has propelled its vision towards crafting another skyscraper hotel, purportedly in the vibrant urban expanse of Istin—an adjacency to the bustling heart of New Care.

Economic Endeavors: A Monetary Investment of 3.4 Million Majasaras

An endeavor of this magnitude entails substantial financial investment, amounting to a staggering 3.4 million Majasaras. The funding for this ambitious project was graciously endowed by both the municipal heads of Blobburg and Bloomford, manifesting a collaborative effort to materialize this architectural triumph. Further bolstering this financial backing is the altruistic contribution from the Ministry of Population Control and Family Administration, a testament to their commitment to the welfare of the populace. This undertaking serves the paramount purpose of providing enhanced living conditions without further encroachment on precious land resources.

An Ingenious Dual-Function Design: From Hospitality to Community Service

The architectural blueprint reflects an ingenious dual-function layout. A discerning glance at the building's area map reveals a symbiotic coexistence of roles. Predominantly, select floors have been meticulously crafted to accommodate the luxurious amenities and comforts characteristic of a grand hotel. Additionally, a segment of the tower is dedicated to the leasing of apartment units, thereby presenting a comprehensive living experience.

As news has surfaced, a fascinating revelation awaits within the stratums of this monumental creation—a "Justification Room." Positioned strategically, either at the zenith or nadir of the edifice, this enclave is envisaged as a miniature courtroom. A progressive initiative, this room will serve to expeditiously address and adjudicate minor offenses. The likes of thieves, notably those of the ilk of bank robbers, will undergo interrogation here, alleviating the rigorous demands on the primary court and law enforcement precincts.

With the Katori Tower, architecture not only ascends to unprecedented heights but also embraces a conscientious convergence of functionality and community well-being.

Elevating Excellence: Unveiling the Katori Tower's Journey to Perfection

While the Katori Tower has officially inaugurated under the auspices of President Herald Suavey, the culmination of its vision and design persists, necessitating some final flourishes to refine its splendor. These enhancements include the introduction of vibrant and effulgent neon lights to imbue the facade with a kaleidoscope of colors, bolstering the tower's nocturnal allure. Furthermore, meticulous attention is being channeled into equipping the open-roof park within both towers with state-of-the-art safety apparatus, ensuring a secure haven for those who seek respite amidst the heavens. These meticulous undertakings are harmonizing the tower's architectural magnificence with the imperative of providing an unrivaled experience.

A Prologue to Grandeur: Presidential Inspection

Preceding the monumental unveiling, President Herald Suavey, accompanied by the esteemed Minister of Infrastructure, undertook a comprehensive inspection of the towering edifice. This initiative, undertaken with sagacious prudence, encompassed meticulous check-ups to ascertain the building's structural integrity and operational safety. This exercise was an affirmation of their unwavering commitment to guaranteeing a secure environment for both present and future occupants.

A Nexus of Possibilities: A Glimpse into the Future

Yet, the Katori Tower's significance is poised to reverberate well beyond its architectural magnificence. It is strategically poised to metamorphose into a multi-faceted epicenter, accommodating an array of momentous occasions. As the pages of time turn, the tower is poised to assume the role of a dynamic hub for grand-scale events that will script the narratives of future generations. Inaugural Exploration: Unveiling the Katori Tower's Hidden Architectural Tale

Akin to a historical journey punctuated by revelations, the grand entrance of President Herald Suavey marked the opening chapter in the Katori Tower's unfolding narrative. An unanticipated revelation awaited, casting an enigmatic light on the tower's foundation—a subtle yet pivotal aspect of its structural essence. A meticulous exploration brought to the fore a striking revelation: the right and left towers stand not only united by purpose but divided by their foundational underpinnings. A bold design choice that alludes to efficiency in construction, the decision to implement separate foundations emerged as a pragmatic measure to expedite the construction timeline.

Unveiling Efficiency: A Pioneering Structural Approach

The architectural innovation of separate foundations serves as an embodiment of engineering foresight. Conceived as a strategic maneuver, this approach deftly sidesteps the logistical complexities that a singular foundation would present. Merging the foundations would have necessitated meticulous recalibration of the tower's intricate structural elements—a process forecasted to extend the construction timeline to a projected four years. The division of foundations shatters this timeline, propelling the tower's emergence within an impressively condensed span of three and a half years. This strategic decision exemplifies the fusion of innovation and efficiency that encapsulates the Katori Tower's very essence.

A Symphony of Convergence: Towers United in Purpose

Emanating from this foundational insight is a narrative that transcends the structural. The unity of purpose that underscores the Katori Tower is symbolically amplified by the parallel trajectory of both towers culminating in an open-roof park crowning each summit. This ambitious endeavor is now advancing towards fruition—a testament to the perseverance and dedication that the project embodies. Soon, these elevated sanctuaries will beckon as verdant havens amid the urban landscape, elevating the Katori Tower beyond architectural grandeur to realms of holistic experiences.

As the Katori Tower takes its initial steps into the annals of public consciousness, Ukelect Covinn News remains committed to weaving the intricate tapestry of its journey. Stay vigilant as we continue to navigate the landscape of this monumental creation, unraveling its myriad facets and immortalizing its imprint on the canvas of architectural marvels.

In closing, the unveiling of the Katori Tower marks a milestone that transcends its architectural significance. It stands as a testament to the convergence of innovation, efficiency, and community-centric vision. The tower's genesis has been marked by meticulous attention to detail, an unwavering commitment to safety, and a dedication to providing a harmonious urban oasis.
As the Katori Tower takes its place in the cityscape, it beckons not only as a beacon of architectural magnificence but as a canvas upon which a spectrum of human experiences will be painted. Prince Anatole Kuragin, Regent of Severoszlavia, has resigned after his return from Predice. He personally informed the Cesarz of his resignation. In a speech to the press, he claimed Putilovists have proven to be "too great an obstacle" for reforms. State Chancellor Kolya Anttonsyn described the resignation as a "blow to democratization." Moderate and reformist leaders in the Party demand the Cesarz to re-appoint Kuragin immediately. READ MORE

66-year-old Cardinal Mauno Cezaricz Łukasiewski, Archbishop of Ingwigard and Primate of Severoszlavia, has been elected as the new regent. The mighty lords in the Sejm have found in him a "fair mind." A supporter of Cardinal Tadeusz Skrzypczak's depoliticization of the Courantist Church, he has steered away from taking any side of the political arena, earning the trust of both the establishment and the opposition. While the Solidarist regime does control the media, preventing a Cesarz from speaking to the Severoszlavian people, the Cesarz reigns in Predice as doge. "ENOUGH IS ENOUGH!" VOLSHAN AUTOCRACY REVEALS NUCLEAR CAPABILITIES AMIDST RISING TENSIONS

v6kACgU.png

Tensions on the border of Sorovia and Iolanta have been rising for months now, arguably inflamed by the interference of outside powers, with the recent announcement by Ultramont that it is resuming its nuclear program the crisis appears to have entered a new and deeply uncertain period. Many hawkish elements within the Autocracies Synod have already expressed growing anger with the disruptive behaviors of the two neighboring states, not least because it threatens to escalate into yet another Ethian war at a time when the rest of the continent is still recovering from the Aurorean war. On Friday the Synod formally revealed the long-suspected presence of nuclear weapons, something the Autocracy has long been suspected to possess but never publicly disclosed. With the death of Zilath Arnthe Sentina, some political commentators fear that less diplomatic heads will now prevail within government, his successor and current interim Zilathe, Grand Magister Cel Sethlans is known to be a far more assertive figure in politics and this may well be one of the forces driving the announcement.

The Volshan navy conducted a nuclear drill off the coast of Port Messana this weekend, the long-range Titan ICBM lighting up the afternoon sky as it ascended toward the heavens, this was the first publicly visible demonstration of the Aurorian nation's arsenal. Rumours have abounded since the late 1970s that Volshan was engaged in a nuclear program, notably a delegation from Astragon arrived in early 1982 under the pretense of conducting "medical research" with enriched uranium, the infamous Lamprey Bay flash of 1987 was similarly regarded as proof of a weapons program, though this was denied by Volshan officials and blamed on a damaged satellite. Now that the curtain has finally fallen back and the facade at last dropped, many analysts are unsure what comes next.

Addressing the Synod in Antyrium the acting Zilathe had this to say in her first speech as head of government:

"We did not end one war simply to watch peace slip from our fingers due to the negligence and stupidity of our less enlightened neighbors! If Sorovia and Iolanta wish to drag Ethia into another war they will not do so without challenge! We Volshans are a peace-loving nation, we have long refrained from engaging in the petty squabbles that have defined so many decades of Ethian history but we can turn away no longer! I entreat Iolanta and Sorovia to end this petty conflict and work with us to usher in an age of peaceful cooperation and economic growth, but I also bear a warning Enough is Enough! this continent has borne the scars of tyrants and war for too long and ANY nation that tries to break the peace will find itself bearing a resolute challenge from the Autocracy!"

The Synod proceeded to erupt in cheers and applause, though a significant minority of speakers either refused to stand or left the chamber in protest. The Zilathes speech appeared to be a form of carrot and stick diplomacy, on the one hand declaring Volshan's desire to enforce peace on Ethia and on the other appearing to offer both Sorovia and Iolanta a place in the much-touted Ethian customs union* that has been a hotly debated piece of post-war legislation. It remains to be seen whether this carrot-and-stick diplomacy pays off or backfires.

*The Ethian Customs Union was proposed by Zilathe Arnthe in the closing days of the Aurorean war, the central idea being to allow the relaxing of trade tariffs and visa-free passports for all member states. Already Auorea and Harbi land have been proposed as likely participants alongside Volshan, the proposal is also likely to be passed to the Scalvian government when parliament resumes in September.

'I'm so sorry,' Federal Police release haunting bodycam footage

IMG_2087.jpg

Scalvian Federal Police Officer's Service Weapon (Photo is illustrative)

Aruküla, VA -- The Scalvian Federal Police concluded its investigation into the fatal shooting that took place on May 18th of this year, and released the bodycam footage of the officer involved.

The Incident

It was just before noon on May 18th, when an officer from the SFP's Aruküla Detachment noticed a station wagon parked on the road facing the wrong direction. Video shows him approach a forward facing vehicle asking "what's going on?"
The officer, Corporal Raivo Toots then approaches the parked vehicle. The woman inside, later identified as 33-year old Anna-Maria Teeväli initially refuses to roll down the window. Eventually, however, Teeväli gives in and rolls down the window, but refuses to answer the officer's questions. Toots can be heard asking the woman if she's okay and calling in the situation on his radio. Teeväli only responds when the officer asks if she needs an ambulance, but it is unclear what she says. When Toots asks her if she's been drinking, she reverts back to silence. It's then, that Teeväli reaches for something in her middle console. Toots can be heard asking her what it is, before realising it's a gun. Toots grabs her arm, before backing off and shooting at her. Immediately, Toots puts out a shots fired call, before yelling at Teeväli to stay still. When backup arrives, Toots removes the gun from the vehicle, where Teeväli is already unresponsive. Toots then approaches the vehicle parked nearby, asking if everyone inside is okay. Nobody inside is injured but a bullet hit the windshield. Toots can be heard apolagising to the people inside before breaking down. The person inside the vehicle then identifies themselves and Jaana, and Toots introduces himself, again apolagising. Another officer approaches Raivo asking if he's okay and Raivo introduces the officer to Jaana. Later, Toots can be seen holding hands with another officer who appears to be consoling him, and seconds later, a supervisor orders the bodycam turned off.

"Suicide by cop"

The incident was the sixth police shooting that year, and the first fatal shooting. CPL Toots was cleared of any wrongdoing in the incident. The Scalvian Federal Police released their investigation's results today, concluding that the incident was a suicide by cop, and commending Toots' conduct. The officer's restraint and conduct under pressure were especially praised.
"He did everything right in an extremely difficult and traumatic situation. All procedure was followed to the letter, and the officer's own conduct was excellent." said Chief Superintendent of the Federal Police, Karlis Ezergailis.
"He discharged his service weapon three times, as an absolute last resort. Two shots hit the subject. In such a high stress situation, he did everything he could." said Detachment Chief Toomas Kollamuru.
"It is so terribly unfortunate that some people decide to pull others into their suicide. Being the instrument in a suicide is incredibly difficult, and Corporal Toots has managed as best as he can." said SGT Karl Aasmaa, the Detachment's supervisor that day.
Toots was on leave until July and received fully paid for counselling sessions. He has since returned to duty.

Minister of Defense welcomes Predicean forces to Güney Antalya
August 1, 2023

15ncODO.jpg

This morning, Minister of Defense Chaim Montefiore greeted Col. Alessandro Federico Moschin at King Umberto National Airport. Col. Moschin is the commander of the 13th, 23rd, and 122nd Air Assault Battalions. They comprise the immediate response force from the Ember Sea Fleet to assist the Iolantan government in restoring order.

In a press conference, Montefiore commended the response of the Predicean government to the Sorovia-Iolanta border crisis. "With their understanding and willingness to cross the aisle, at the cost of their international reputation, nothing should keep the two sides apart. We have done our part, the Sorovian government should take the next step."

Montefiore called on the Sorovian government to "restore the status quo" by withdrawing its forces from the Sorovia-Iolanta border and lifting all sanctions. He also asked the governments of Esthursia, Hexastalia, and Rayvostoka to do the same "in the interest of regional peace and stability."

He thanked the Scalvian government and Minister of Foreign Affairs Hardijs Baumanis for "giving Iolanta a chance" to present its case to the world. He admits that there is more to be done, but the next course of action will depend on the collective responses of all parties involved, not just the foreign governments. He asked protesters representing Vaniri, pro-status quote, and anti-segregationist interests to "have patience" and consider the economic and political difficulties of their desired reforms.

Farrugia scolds Montefiore, moves into Governor-General's residence
August 4, 2023

1kJQVUx.png

Prime Minister Farrugia claimed Defense Minister Chaim Montefiore did not ask for any cabinet clearance to make the statements he made in the press conference yesterday at King Umberto National Airport. Particularly, Farrugia referred to the moment when Montefiore mentioned reforms.

In his own press conference at Palazz tal-Gvernatur, Farrugia reprimanded the defense minister: "Montefiore should not have said that. We do not understand why he did not come to us first. He should have followed protocol. Whatever he said does not represent official government position."

When asked about rumors alleging Montefiore is conspiring with the Predicean government, Farrugia said, "It would be misleading for me to speak about the available facts. Rest assured, the Government of Etiya will survive. With or without the support of certain ministers." He later clarified that conspiracy, while treated with the maximum legal prejudice, could not be the best term to describe Montefiore's opinions on official government policy. In any case, Farrugia insisted, the Senat could always nominate another defense minister if Montefiore could not reconcile his "passionate differences" with Farrugia and their cabinet colleagues.

Farrugia ended the press conference on a strange note. He announced that he and his family have moved into Palazz tal-Gvernatur. He explained he wanted to work closer with Governor-General Jasmine Caffari in the coming days.

The entire time, Farrugia only answered questions from Predicean broadcaster RAP World Service, RAP Iolanta, and In-Nazzjon.

Farrugia survives assassination attempt
August 5, 2023

24Ghnvb.png

Prime Minister Farrugia survived an assassination attempt in the streets of Güney Antalya. The failed assassin was arrested by the Royal Carabinieri. Their identity has not been released to the public.

In a show of strength yesterday afternoon, Farrugia and his wife Anastasia attempted a peaceful walkabout in Constitutional Boulevard at the Old Harbor Cultural District, a place of constant siege from the ongoing riots. In this district, the most vulnerable businesses, low-priority government offices, and anywhere that does not have a decent amount of police or private security, have been ransacked over the past two weeks.

When they reached the end, there was a sense of calm. Police officers started to move away from Farrugia as the press began their approach for an on-the-spot interview. This abruptly ended without a word from Farrugia or his wife as they were rushed into their car. Three gunshots were heard. This led to panic and people, both bystanders and protesters, tried to leave the boulevard all at once, causing an unfortunate stampede. 10 people are confirmed dead and 38 more are injured.

At first, they were greeted with cheers by onlookers, most of whom were not affiliated with the protests.

52-year-old shopkeeper clapped with the others as Farrugia and his wife passed by. He said, "Our enemies are watching us. We can't afford to look weak. Every opportunity to show strength is an effort to restore the dignity of Iolanta."

"I am not a protestor." A 36-year-old Vaniri worker said. "It was a refreshing scene to see the Prime Minister outside of the Senat. It was very reassuring to see him with us. People desire peace and order more than anything. Everything else should be done when peace is restored."

But as soon as the pro-status quo protesters noticed the Prime Minister, the jeering roared and reverberated in the area. The Special Police Unit started to surround Farrugia when a mass of people broke through the police perimeter that kept the boulevard clear. The prime-ministerial couple had to move quickly, otherwise, they would have been unable to get out of the boulevard.

One of them in a mask attempted to throw a water bottle, only to be held back by officers of the Special Police Unit.

"The Prime Minister no longer represents the will of the people." He said. "The government is acting outside its mandate. It is acting unconstitutionally. This nation was built on recognizing the differences between the three communities of Iolanta and the foreign workers. The Good Neighbor Policy is our way of life."

NRA claims responsibility for attempted hit on Prime Minister
August 6, 2023

CPqOyjG.png

A group of people claiming to be members of Sorovian terrorist organization, the National Republican Army, released a video online claiming responsibility for the attempted assassination of Prime Minister Farrugia. The video has been uploaded, shared, and spread all over social media.

No person appeared in the video. Instead, it was full of text serving as subtitles to the distorted voices heard in the video. They implied further attacks would occur, but were careful to not give any more specific details.

"Iolanta is a fake nation." An unidentified person in the video said. "A nation built on the foundation of colonialism should not exist. It has no place on this continent. It has no legitimate claim to its territories. We will finish the work of Karvonen. Greater Sorovia will be free."

Minister of Interior Barca Erentoz has promised to start an official investigation once public order has been restored. Royal Carabinieri is spread too thin, making resources for other police work, especially investigations concerning national security, nearly impossible.

Erentoz said, "Once the King's Peace is fully restored, the Royal Carabinieri will not rest until they find and arrest the creators of the offensive video. Whether they were really responsible or not, they will be held accountable for their actions."

Due to the dubious origins of the video, Erentoz explained there is no real reason to panic because of it. The Interior Ministry is still verifying if the video was actually made by NRA.

"The usual sources from NRA have been silent," Erentoz said. "We will never know unless one of them can confirm the video belongs to them."

Governor-General declares martial law
August 6, 2023

XcK8Ior.png

In a live address to the nation, martial law was declared by Governor-General Jasmine Caffari. She announced a national curfew was put in place. No citizens are allowed to leave their homes between 11:30 PM and 3:00 AM. Large gatherings, both recreational and religious, have been banned. News and media organizations suspected of "activities encouraging the ongoing riots" would be sued "at the full extent of the law" or commandeered by the government for "a short, temporary time."

Caffari said, "The government is prepared to take all the necessary and rational steps available to restore order in our country."

The Council of State joined her in a grand display of unity. Standing behind Caffari were Prime Minister Farrugia and Foreign Minister Valent Comitianus, among other cabinet members. Caffari claimed the entire cabinet was present in the broadcast, but Defense Minister Chaim Montefiore and Interior Minister Barca Erentoz were absent.

All major networks in all mediums of communication broadcasted Caffari's address.

Prime Minister's office has communication issues with barricaded Defense Ministry
August 8, 2023

Casa Gazzella reported that Casa Aquila, the main office of the Ministry of Defense, has been unresponsive to messages and calls from the Prime Minister's office. Last night, the Defense Ministry began preventing people from entering Casa Aquila. Neither officials in the Defense Ministry nor the PM's office have made an official announcement to explain this.

Instead, Cabinet Secretary Fonzu Sant'Angelo insisted in a street interview that "it is nothing to worry about." He said, "Sanctions and law and order remain to be the biggest priorities in the cabinet agenda. Nothing has changed."

Despite this, the Defense Ministry has been actively publishing on its social media. They shared photos of joint activities with the Predicean Armed Forces. Defense Minister Chaim Montefiore has appeared in most of them, wearing military fatigues and shaking hands with Col. Alessandro Federico Moschin and other Predicean officers.
