The Dominion of the Winter Sidhe
"Shall we, then, return to the beginning, mortal?" hissed Grimalkin.
In the beginning, God created the Heavens and the Earth.
"Aah yes, but even more than that...."
In the beginning there was the Nevernever, the spirit realm, born of the thoughts and imaginations of Man, connected to the Mortal Realm, which the White God had made.
Closest to Creation was Faerie, the land of the fey, which influenced the ebb and flow of the seasons as the power of the Seelie and Unseelie ebbed and flowed. In the beginning the Seelie were ruled by Mother Summer and the Unseelie by Mother Winter. There was once perfect harmony and balance as they each ruled exactly half of Faerie.
But then, the unthinkable happened. The creation of the White God disobeyed Him. The thoughts of Man became corrupted and so, too, the Nevernever. Violence erupted into the now thousands of milennia old feud between Summer and Winter. The balance was kept harshly. Mothers Winter and Summer grew old, their lives shortened, and relinquished the thrones to their daughters: Mab and Titania, who rule to this day.
Grimalkin purred over the photograph. "A portrait of my mistress, Her Majesty, Mab, the Queen of Air and Darkness, Monarch of the Unseelie."
Queen Mab rules the Winter Court from her fortress of Arctis Tor, located deep in the heart of Winter Faerie. She rules jointly with the current Winter Lady, Molly, and Mother Winter; however, Mab is the chiefest of the three queens.
The Land of Faerie is home to myriads of Wyldfey, the multitude of which are beholden to either Court. From trolls to ogres and nymphs and various forms of natural monstrosities, they serve at the beck and call of the Queens.
The Sidhe themselves are separate from the Wyldfey. The Sidhe serve as Lords and Ladies, as Knights and Guardians. They form the mainstay of the Court's armed forces.
"'But what do they want?' thou asketh, mortal?" Grimalkin grinned a wide, toothy smile. "Lest thou thinketh that thou couldst know the mind of Mab or the Sidhe..." the feline emissary of the Queen padded back and forth, "...thou couldst not. But the stories... Allow this, my retort... Is the blizzard itself evil? Nay, it is but cold. Is the hurricane capable of anything but that which it is? Nay, it is but wind and thunder and disaster. Likewise are the Sidhe. Just as thou couldst not blame nature for being anything but that which it is, so, too, are the Sidhe nothing but that which they are. My mistress is Cold and Darkness and Ruin and Reality. These things are Her Majesty's nature. She can be naught else."
The Sidhe interact little with the mortal realm except when it is in their interest to do so. Any of the Sidhe, including the Queen of Air and Darkness herself, may be summoned into the mortal realm with a proper summoning circle. But be warned, mortal, you invite the wrath of the Sidhe upon yourself if you have nothing of value to offer the Queen should you summon her. Her power extends over the elements and the seasons.
The Sidhe are generally unable to use their magic upon mortal kind, except when they come into the Sidhe's debt. If you owe three favors to the Sidhe, they own you completely.
Be wary of interaction. The Sidhe are incapable of lying, but do not trust the truth from their mouths.
