General Archives Organization Finished!

It has been a longstanding complaint of many that the general forum archives as currently "organized" were too unwieldy and the numerous subforums that many could view looked unseemly.

I've never disagreed with that, but straightening the mess up was not the first priority. Now that all of the currently used areas have been more properly archived in a way most would deem rational, its time to clean up the underbelly of these forums.

Because much of the material there were archived solely by moving the particular subforum to that area without adjusting any settings or cleaning up, it will take time as I will have to move threads into subject-area archived forums and then remove the empty subforums, unpin pinned threads. and edit the permissions into a consistent pattern. It will take time, and I cannot make an estimate of when it will be finished. But it is my goal to reduce the nearly 100 subforums (!) to about 20ish. (Some of them are quite specific as to a particular topic that can't be coherently combined.) And I do want to preserve some semblance of organization rather than dump all the threads into a big pile. Thus, all the NPA threads will be in one forum. each of the past Cabinet ministries will be kept by subject matter, and so forth.

At the current time, the permissions for these archived forums from 2005 to generally, late 2010 are an incoherent mess. They need to be adjusted as I get through an topical area. Emptied out sub-subforums in the general archives area will be removed once the threads have been relocated to their permanent locations. (It makes no sense to have 80-plus empty forums down there.) No threads will be deleted, just emptied out subforums. And if I find old spam that wasn't moved to the lock box, well, that'll get done too.

Generally (with very limited exceptions such as forum moderation discussions and material quoting PMs and such), those with regional assembly or citizen permissions, in addition to the admin and general mods, will eventually be able to see that material once this process is completed.

At the current time the following areas have been completed:

I haven't quite finished, but the bulk of the organizing of the general archives is done. I've set permissions so that the moderation team, and those with either R.A. ot Citizen masks or permission can see the area. The list should be a lot shorter now, as I've merged the three largest number of archived forums (the NPA, the old University into one or two a piece, and I've consolidated most of the Cabinet ministries and Cabinet into one coherent set of archived areas, merging the Cabinet discussion threads into one general and one confidential instead of a much larger number (two for each term while there was a functioning Cabinet. I've also collected the archived material of TNP's history, culture and economy into a single set of nested archived forums.

There are still a few more troublesome ones left to deal with, especially a "government" one that has threads from all three branches mixed together, and some that are odds and ends that I have to figure out how to handle.

It's taken a solid afternoon and night today, plus last night, folks; and its still not done. But a major portion of it is.

It's done. :pinch:

Those with RA and citizen masks in addition to the moderation team now should have access to all of governmental archived threads in the General Archives. I've tried to organize them in a sensible way but if you go looking and run into an issue, just let me know. Some of the threads (for elections and old RA stuff have been put in the local archives for those areas, so that should make it easier if you're researching a topic.

The process reduced over 100 subforums to about 30. I think that's a pretty good result.
