The Delegate:
I note that @Prydania 's term as Election Commissioner expired on 7/21/22, and that the terms for @Peeps and @Fregerson expire on 8/27/22 and 8/28/22 respectively. As a result, I appoint @Kronos to the Election Commission and will announce subsequent appointment(s) shortly.

@Kronos has been appointed to serve as an Election Commissioner by Delegate @Pallaith. I now open the floor for debate and discussion on the nominations. I would welcome a statement in support of the nomination from @Pallaith.

Should the appointment go to a vote, I intend to put the following motion before the Regional Assembly:
Motion:
The Regional Assembly, acting on the nomination of the delegate, appoints Kronos to the Election Commission.

Kronos is someone who eagerly learns the rules and procedures of a job when he decides to undertake it, and has great deference and respect for those rules. I am confident that he would take to the EC like a fish to water, just as he did a a justice on our court. We need people who not only are apt in jobs like this, but who enjoy the work, which can often be tedious or boring to most. The EC is seen as a safe place for newer players or payers who want to step up and do more in TNP, and given he is more suited to this role in my view than the average player, and given he already has the patience to serve in a capacity where much of the time nothing of note happens, this seems like a good role for him. Kronos may not know all the answers to EC inquiries or have all the scenarios in mind right now, but between the questioning he receives here and the time setting up and getting used to the EC if he is appointed, he'll become if not an expert, then a well-read and confident source on EC matters, because that's just how he operates. Please give him your vote and allow him to take on this role.

I think that Kronos seems like an idea candidate for Elections Commissioner, although selling this as a safe place for newer players to start may be a stretch because Kronos is currently also serving as Chief Justice.

That was more to say, we consider it a good opportunity for new players to try out, so someone like Kronos becomes even more of a good candidate for the role given the experience he already has. That was not meant to call him a new player.

The clock is a bit tight considering how soon our ECs will lose the role. Since Kronos would be new to the EC, I figure you guys would want a little longer to discuss/ask questions - so please do so! I'll try to motion this tomorrow night.

Second, if needed. Support a vote.

Seeing a motion and a second, this will go to vote later today, after the Treaty Repeal Amendment vote finishes.

@Kronos what are the best and the worst things about TNP's private voting system?
I can’t think of a way private voting is bad morally or ethically, but a quick reason I thought of was if someone in the commission forgot to count them. The extra rules and regulations pile on to the electoral system but that is not even much of a problem seeing how elections are very cleanly handled. And, with the commission having multiple members watching, error in itself is a much lesser possibility.

Something I’d consider the best part of the private system is the anonymity. the anonymity the private system provides helps if you don’t want to find yourself in the middle of awkward arguments with someone you know over why you didn’t support either their candidacy in an election, bills, or nominations to a position. In the private system you can cast your votes confidently, in confidence.
