As the North Pacifican Socialist Party appears to be defunct, I am proposing creating a new party to push internationally socialist ideals within the North Pacific and the world at large.
Welcome to the first meeting of the Socialist Workers Party of the North Pacific (SWP).
Mission Statement
Poverty, exploitation, oppression, and war are direct products of the existing system of capitalism which we see throughout the world. Capitalism is a system in which a minority ruling class profits from the labor of the majority. The Socialist Workers Party strives for a more equitable society where wealth is redistributed and the people control the means of production through democratically elected means.
Platform
International Policies
  1. World Assembly - Support socialist or communist measures which will allow for greater redistribution of wealth, strengthening unions, or providing for the people of individual nations through direct actions in the World Assembly. Concurrently, the Socialist Workers Party will actively oppose measures which embrace or support the current capitalist systems. Party member states which are a part of the World Assembly will support these affairs and endorse candidates to represent the North Pacific who will embrace such measures.
  2. Military Affairs - The Socialist Workers Party generally believes in limited military action on behalf of the North Pacific. However, the Socialist Workers Party support aggressive liberation of workers in regions which have been subjected to the hawkish, undemocratic overthrow by capitalist raiders stealing that which should be for all peoples.
  3. Treaties - Peace is paramount for a safer world and the Socialist Workers Party will support treaties and the establishment of embassies which will encourage further improvement of world peace.
Domestic Policy
  1. Wealth Redistribution - The Socialist Workers Party believes in a redistribution of all wealth to the people; therefore, all Cards should be in common among the people.
  2. Card Farming - The Socialist Workers Party supports the aggressive establishment of communally managed colony NationStates for the North Pacific to generate Cards to be distributed through the North Pacific.
  3. Regional Assembly - Support socialist or communist measures which will allow for greater redistribution of wealth and support of working class peoples within the North Pacific.
OOC: This platform is a work in progress and when/if additional members join we will establish a committee to flesh this out further.

However, currently there is not a proposal that is able to fill in the gap that the removal of this legislation will fill. Therefore, at present the SWP is AGAINST this proposal. World Assembly Proposals to Watch
  • Repeal: "Nuclear Arms Possession Act
    • Summary: This proposal would overturn he "Nuclear Arms Possession Act" which gave member nations the right to own nuclear weapons.
    • SWP Comments: In theory, we agree that the original proposal does allow for the stockpiling of nuclear weapons and that a more modern approach to nuclear weapons legislation is needed. The SWP would not be opposed to complete prohibition on the ownership of nuclear weapons by member states and if this is a step in that direction, is more supportive of this measure.
  • Commercial Spaceflight Safety
    • Summary: Legislation requiring member nations to establish safety and licensing programs for commercial space flight.
    • SWP Comments: The SWP opposes private property on principal and are in strict opposition to the entire concept of commercial spaceflight. Commercial spaceflight is a tool of capitalism to lure the working class into support of capital. However, requiring safe regulations are established for member nations that do allow for commercial spaceflight is important to ensure that such activities are safe and that public records exist of commercial spaceflights to protect our own airspace.
  • [DRAFT] Recognition of Personal Property
    • Summary: The proposal attempts to protect the individual and their right to personal belongings as well as those owned by a family
    • SWP Comments: The legislation as written does not prohibit the use of this protection to use personal property for financial gain beyond basic material needs. The representative from the United Socialist States of Namwenia made the language recommendations which can be reviewed here.
  • [TEMPORARILY SHELVED] The Universal Child Care Act
    • Summary: Legislation intended to provide universal child care across all World Assembly member nations using funds from the World Assembly to pay for such child care
    • SWP Comments: Despite its noble goals, this legislation as written has widespread opposition amongst members of the World Assembly as currently written. There are numerous inconsistencies in the proposal and, in its current state, it does not require background checks as a part of licensing for child care workers. It is at times both too vague and too specific as written. The SWP supports the concept, but not this current legislation and would support a total rewrite to achieve this noble goal.

World Assembly Vote Watch (Main Post Updated)
  • Repeal: “Sexual Predator Registry Act”
    • Summary: Repeal General Assembly Resolution #619, which required member states to establish a sexual offender registry.
    • SWP Comments: There are compelling arguments which can be made both for and against this proposal. While the SWP does not see a compelling reason to overturn the Sexual Predator Registry Act at present as it was approved by an overwhelming majority of member states (~79% in favor). However, the SWP recognizes that people can and do change in a rehabilitative justice system. Therefore, the party is currently taking NO POSITION. An article in favor of the resolution from the North Pacific Ministry of World Assembly Affairs can be reviewed here.

Regional Assembly Vote Watch (Main Post Updated)
  • The Treaty Repeal Amendment
    • Summary: An amendment to the North Pacific code which will require a two thirds margin for approval or repeal of treaties.
    • SWP Comments: This is an update of a previous proposal which had required a two thirds margin for approval, but only a simple majority to repeal treaties. This updated version makes both approval and repeal of treaties use the same margin for passage. The Socialist Workers Party is IN FAVOR of this measure and believes it makes sense for important treaties to have higher vote margins than standard legislation.

      • Summary: Provide a commendation for member state and The North Pacific nation, Valentine Z
      • SWP Comments: Valentine Z is an upstanding member state in the North Pacific and world at large. The Socialist Workers Party is IN FAVOR of commending our fellow, socialist representative from the North Pacific. Please read the commendation in full as it calls out its own merits very well.

World Assembly Proposals to Watch
  • Biomedical Donation Omnibus Act
    • Summary: An omnibus act to prevent discrimination against peoples during biomedical donations (blood, organs, etc)
    • SWP Comments: This act is intent on expanding non-discrimination policies of the World Assembly beyond that already included in previous legislation such as "Biomedical Donor Rights" and "Blood Donation Safety and Equality Act." The Socialist Workers Party are in favor of expanded non-discrimination laws on an international level and applaud this proposal.
  • Right to Self Defence
    • Summary: An international law intended to provide universal support for the right of an individual to self-defense
    • SWP Comments: While the right of an individual to protect themselves or others is a noble thing to protect and the Socialist Workers Party appreciates that this legislation does not intend to allow for persons to use self-defense in order to protect their capital, the SWP has numerous concerns with this proposal. Firstly, Section (c) loosely prevents the use of self-defense when you are potentially under attack by law enforcement; as laws are not enforced fairly across all member nations and numerous instances exist where law enforcement abuse their authority in the name of "public defense," the SWP recommends striking this section altogether. Also, while we appreciate the efforts to show there are limits as to what should classify as self-defense, Section (d) still feels too vague to provide appropriate protections from individuals who claim to use self-defense. Further, Section (d)(iv) would allow a person to be denied the right to self-defense based on accusations with no definition of what constitutes such accusations included in this proposal. While the intent may have been good, this legislation has too many problems for the SWP to support in its present state.

World Assembly Proposals to Watch
  • Repeal: “Restrictions On Child Labor"
    • Summary: A proposal to overturn General Assembly Resolution #4, "Restrictions On Child Labor"
    • SWP Comments: The intention of this proposal is written in plain language in the proposal itself: abuse children through forced labor. This is a horrific proposal that reminds us of the dangers that exist for those who cannot defend themselves in a truly unrestricted capitalist society. This proposal is an outrageous affront to human rights that we hope disappears quickly due to lack of support from member states. The Socialist Workers Party would consider supporting a condemnation notice in the World Assembly for the Dominion of Earth Federation for even making this proposal.

2022 North Pacific Elections

The candidacy nominations have begun for the September 2022 North Pacific General Elections. The Socialist Workers Party is currently only one member who is ineligible to run for office due to their recent residency within the North Pacific. However, we encourage all socialists and communists within the North Pacific to actively participate in the election and support candidates who will encourage individual member states to continue advancing the cause of socialism.

When candidates have been nominated, the Socialist Workers Party will review the candidates and consider making endorsements.

World Assembly Proposals to Watch
  • Right to Self Defence
    • Summary: An international law intended to provide universal support for the right of an individual to self-defense. An update to a previous submission, "Right to Self Defence" which has subsequently been deleted.
    • SWP Comments: This is an updated version of a previous World Assembly proposal that has very similar language. Firstly, it only allows for self-defense of an individual and not the use of self-defense as an argument to defend capital, which the SWP appreciates. Section (c) has been strengthened since the previous iteration of this legislation to state that self-defense cannot be used as a legal defense against law enforcement when they are lawfully executing the law. However, as laws are not enforced fairly across all member nations and numerous instances exist where law enforcement abuse their authority in the name of "public defense," the SWP continues to recommend striking this section altogether. That said, the addition of Section (e) clarifies that a person who believes they are legitimately acting in self-defense may be entitled to use said defense despite the language included in Section (c). However, this also opens the doors to a lot of potential scenarios where a person can claim a legitimate belief in self-defense to bypass murder laws. Therefore, the SWP is OPPOSED to this legislation.

September 2022 North Pacific General Elections

The Socialist Workers Party would like to encourage all citizens of the North Pacific to vote in the September 2022 North Pacific General Election. Please vote here.

The Socialist Workers Party has chosen to NOT ENDORSE any candidate for office and encourages all voters to make their voice heard if they believe a new call for candidates is warranted for any position.

World Assembly Proposals to Watch
  • Weapons Safety and Regulations Act
    • Summary: An international law intended to require all member nations to establish certain weapons safety regulations and establish a Weapons Security Commission.
    • SWP Comments: Minimizing weapons and warfare is a noble goal; however, this entire proposal is riddled with holes. For example, the regulation does not define weapons of mass destruction, High Power weapons, or vacuum bombs; the legislation does not list the intent or powers of the Weapons Security Commission or how this commission is formed; the legislation says it will depend on other legislation that will come after it, but does not define what that may entail. This proposal reads more like an idea for legislation than an actual piece of legislation. Therefore, at present, the SWP is OPPOSED to this proposal.
  • Repeal: "Biological Warfare Convention"

World Assembly Vote Watch (Main Post Updated)
  • Minimum Payment Act
    • Summary: A proposal, according to its authors, "...to enact uniform standards that protect workers, consumers, and the general public."
    • SWP Comments: This legislation exists to prevent the predatory practice of certain lenders where they provide low minimum payment options coupled with high interest rates that basically keep the poor poorer as they pay these creditors in perpetuity. Anything to protect the people under problematic capitalist governments as well as point them in the direction of rising against the evils of capital is a step in the right direction. The Socialist Workers Party is IN FAVOR of this proposal.

World Assembly Vote Watch (Main Post Updated)
  • Repeal: “Whistleblower Protection Act”
    • Summary: A proposal to repeal General Assembly Resolution #539 “Whistleblower Protection Act”
    • SWP Comments: There are numerous flaws pointed out in the original legislation both by The North Pacific's own Vice Delegate as well as the original author of the piece. TNP has put out a formal dispatch in favor of this resolution. The Socialist Workers Party takes NO POSITION on the repeal as an alternate to replace this legislation has not yet been proposed. When an adequate submission is proposed, the SWP will be in support of repeal for the same reasons mentioned in TNP's dispatch.

Redistribution of Cards Program

Believing that we should have all things in common, the Socialist Workers Party is beginning a redistribution of Cards. The Cards of the Nation of Byzanewmium, a secondary nation operated by Namwenia, are free to be redistributed to those who are in need of Cards.

Please feel free to reply below and we will work toward equitable, free distribution of the cards for Byzanewmium.

Other Socialist States which wish to contribute and donate cards to this program, please let us know.

Regional Assembly Upcoming Vote: Kastonvia's Security Council Application
Former Vice Delegate Kastonvia has been nominated to join The North Pacific Security Council by a 10-1-0 vote of the current members of the Security Council. They released the following statement:
Kasto recently completed a historic year of service as Vice Delegate. The SC has worked closely with him and we are confident he will fit right in as he already knows everything he needs to know to serve the region in this capacity. He has also given exemplary service in the executive and continues to do so, and would be another important connection between the SC and the gameside community. His humor and his positive energy are also a great addition to the team, and something we can always use more of. We feel he has more than earned our trust and that of the region, and would be happy to welcome him back.

The Socialist Workers Party sees no reason to dismiss the nomination of Kastonvia to the Security Council. They served well as Vice Delegate in support of The North Pacific and have been encouraging of our efforts to form this party. Therefore, the SWP supports a vote IN FAVOR of Kastonvia to the Security Council when such a vote is taken.

World Assembly Proposals to Watch
  • Sex Workers Protection Act - (Note: Currently in queue)
    • Summary: A comprehensive proposal to provide legislation for member nations to protect sex workers.
    • SWP Comments: This is an update to a previous submission on the same topic by the same group which addresses some of the concerns others pointed out in the original. It provides protections in capitalist nations for those who perform sex work, it has protections to prevent coercion or human trafficking for sex work, and requires sex work institutions to provide free distribution of medical supplies to their employees workers. Overall, the package is relatively comprehensive to protect workers. The Socialist Workers Party supports additional efforts to protect workers, especially forcing more protections and increasing the rights of the working class in capitalist nations. Therefore, the SWP is IN FAVOR of this proposal as written. Discussion within The North Pacific can be found here.
  • Deposit Insurance Fund - (Note: Currently in queue)
    • Summary: A proposal to regulate banks and provide an insurance fund promoted by the World Assembly.
    • SWP Comments: This piece of legislation is an attempt to provide protections to citizens from poor decisions or management of banks. An insurance fund to protect savers from bank failure is an important step in the right direction and the SWP is IN FAVOR of this proposal as written.   • Free Trade and Business Freedom Act
    • Summary: A proposal to "...promote business freedom and foster opportunities throughout the world."
    • SWP Comments: This is an anti-socialism bill masked as an attempt to promote freedom as would be expected from explicitly capitalist nations. This proposal would explicitly prevent government intervention in any "market mechanisms" and prevents the use of subsidies for businesses except for a very explicit list of industries. This is nothing more than an attempt to attack and strip away the rights of socialist and communist nations in the world, therefore the SWP is vehemently AGAINST this proposal.

  • Motion to Overturn the Rejection of Jedinsto's Citizenship Application
    • Summary: A motion to repeal the rejection of a citizenship application from The North Pacific Resident Jedinsto.
    • SWP Comments: Jedinsto was asked a number of questions about the reasons behind why they failed the citizenship process. They provided general answers to the questions; however, not all of them were detailed in helping understand why they had failed the initial citizenship check. Therefore, the SWP takes NO POSITION on this motion as there is not sufficient information.

I have absolutely no idea why TinyPic keeps deleting the pic, but going forward we will not use the logo temporarily as we keep pushing for socialist causes.​

  • International Art Gallery (In the Queue)
    • Summary: A proposal to establish two international art galleries (one physical, one virtual) maintained and supported by World Assembly member nations.
    • SWP Comments: The SWP supports the arts and believes that support of the arts go hand in hand with a true free society. When all is distributed evenly, people are free to enjoy the arts. The establishment of both a virtual and physical international art gallery supported by the people will provide widespread access to the arts for more and, therefore, expanding the horizons of generations yet to come. The goals are lofty and may be difficult, but we SUPPORT the proposal as written.
