The Nation States World Fair held earlier this month was attended by ParrrrTay, Almonaster and Matilda Love. We set up our own Canadian Booth where all visitors were able to pick up an NSC badge as a memento of their visit . We set up links to our off-site forum and provided a 'potted' history of Canada. A 'Guess Who' game thread allowed participants to earn themselves a variety of different Canadian themed badges.

January also saw the opening of an embassy for Yggdrasil, and a return to action in Wysteria. We are very pleased to welcome our wonderful new ambassador, CelestialMaple of Wysteria and the arrival of the marvellous Zybodia, visiting dignitary from Yggdrasil.

We also extend a warm welcome to four new and equally marvellous ambassadors from our established embassies. Please do make yourselves a little home away from home, Josh Sebastian of Europeia, TheUnitedSolarRepublic of The South Pacific, Sparaxis of The East Pacific, and last but certainly not least, sophistry of the British Isles

House of Commons

*Lively discussion has opened up over the addition of a 'Featured Nation' segment on the Regional Message Board. Everyone is keen but the fun is in the details!

Wysteria proposed a festival of Spring Games with Texas, Yggdrasil and Canada. We are looking forward to all the fun and are so very excited to have been invited to participate. Almonaster will be representing us on The Cross Regional Games Committee.

The initial enthusiasm over the new Regional Message Board poll feature has been 'taken over' lately by the 'Featured Nation' discussion. However judging by first responses, it looks like the occasional poll might be a fun idea. Alterrum has proposed an initial draft for a poll that will help us discover how many in Nation States Canada are also Canadian in real life.

A number of Regions with whom we hold Regional Message Board embassies have been inactive of late. A number of telegrams were sent requesting an update on interest in two regions.
Sadly our embassy with the Democrats has been closed due to inactivity on the part of this region. Happily however, relations with Wysteria are restored.
Relations with Global Right Alliance are still under investigation.
Alterrum noted that "it seems we have forum relations with the North Pacific and Europeia, but we don't have embassies with them in NS."
ParrrrTay responded by sending a request to each of these regions.

We welcome our new ambassadors, City 46 from Yggdrasil, South Boston Irishmen from British Isles and vac mikaelson from the United Kingdom.

We are also preparing the best of our nations athletes for the Wysterian Spring Games beginning March 12th.
So far we have entrants from Almonaster Nuevo, Devil Heart and the land.
If you are interested in gathering more particulars about each of these nations athletes, the link is here

And, External Affairs would like to invite all of you to participate in all the fun or our Fantasty F1

Would anyone be interested in playing a Fantasy Formula 1 game this year? It's very low commitment, just 2 names roughly once a fortnight.

The weather this month on planet earth has been extreme, according to the Weather Channel at Standing Around the Water Cooler
To the north of the planet Michigan has been freezing over, while to the south we have been watching Gippsland burn.

Also featuring at the 1000 page thread in Standing Around the Water Cooler is an on going discussion about real life Pensions, Scottish Independence, a poem about kilts, Canadian secession, Australian States, Swiss bunkers, more on Australian states, and last but definitely not least, education. And don't forget it was Polar Bear Day this month, we have have a few posts up featuring the white fluff in the Polar Bear Survey for you to take a look at. All this, peppered with the usual quips and friendly jibes common to our region.

We have a couple of new threads opened up.
The first is Artwork Challenge where our creative juices are challenged to produce images for us to share at regular intervals.

Billy the Kid has opened a 'Featured Nation' thread, where weekly entries featuring a Canadian nation are written and later posted on the WFE. Working through a few teething problems, but it will be up and running soon.

A couple of very classy events have been held at the Wysterian Embassy

A 'Featured Nation' will soon be included in the WFE, thanks to Billy the Kid for taking this one in hand, and to ParrrrTay for getting them posted.

We have received and invitation to participate with Wysteria in some sort of cross regional activity, still to be decided upon. Canadian citizens have been sharing their thoughts on what and how this might work, and be enjoyable for all.

Science has taken front seat at the 'Real Life' and 'Role Play' threads this month in Canada.

In the Canadian Science Faction thread Alterrum posted this link to an article printed in Scientific American written by Paul J. Steinhardt that asks questions about how the universe might first have looked all those years ago. The art work for this article in beautiful - go take a look.
Almonaster posted a link to an article about a design NASA has for a warp drive ship and another article about a funky new material from the Karlsruhe Intitute of Technology that will render touch invisible.

In Role Play Canada continues to consider what each nation might be able to bring to the on going construction of our Space Elevator
Most of us watch and learn fascinated and try to think up ways we might be able to contribute, given our limited technological capabilities and knowlege.
DPL and Almonaster have presented for us the possibility of two types of tether.
One is a lighter weight structure that is potentially more maneuverable/replicable - but easily taken out with just one rogue hit, or go for the more complex twin linked structures that would provide protection to the vital inner cargo should there be a hit, and can also be repaired in part due to its 'segmented' design.
Almonaster:
After debating the merits of friction and maglev transport, a compromise proposal of friction drives to a transfer station above the atmosphere, followed by maglev to orbital levels was reached.
What do you think?

Canada was invaded on August 3, 2014. The invasion was led by UIAF and The Black Hawks. In true NS Canadian spirit we thew a party. The UIAF member, Athabasca Sands, held the Delegate position for 5 days, and ejected/banned nine nations. Eleven embassies were closed.

Canada remained calm and nations with high influence stood strong to hold the fort.

After five days Canada was handed over to Billy Joel, a member of The Black Hawks. Billy Joel password protected the region and ejected more nations bringing the total up to 50 natives removed.

Canadian citizens were concerned they were in for the long haul, so we wrote a Liberation Proposal. On August 14, 2014 Billy Joel resigned from the World Assembly and the raiders began to leave Canada and the Liberation proposal was not needed.

Once Canada belonged to the rightful owners we threw another party!

Canada would also like to take this time to thank all the NS Regions and individuals that supported us during the invasion (there are too many to list).
t4624.gif

A special thanks to Yggdrasil for housing all the misplaced Canadians.

The House has been debating ways to celebrate and engage Citizens. The initial proposal was for a Citizens Day, provisionally 29th of March. Another suggestion was giving badges or other awards for various types of activity. Discussion is still ongoing.

In the wake of the recent raid, the House has understandably been mostly concerned with reviewing our security arrangements, and any regulatory changes which might be needed. In particular we have discussed the level of endorsement caps and procedures for enforcing these, along with ideas for formalizing the position of Senior Citizen (vizier). We also want to make better efforts to reach out to the long-term residents who do not use the forum and gain an understanding of what motivates them.

Getting to know Ainur
It has been a pleasure getting to know Jack Dawkins and Charlie Sheen from Ainur this month.
There has been discussion about an inter-regional festival between our two regions so we can get to know one another a little more.
So far we have discussed the possibility of a role play, and a 'treasure hunt' activity across the regions.

Preparations continue for the Islander's Beach Championship in XKI
Seven nations are entering the competition.

Applications were invited from across Canada for judges that might like to go to the games as the Canadian representative.
Almonaster tried to make contact with Mariko Santarosa to see if she wished to apply, but she remains currently indisposed.
Below are the shortlisted applicants.
JudgeapplicationXKIcrossregionalNov2014small_zps16094a39.png

After several days of intense deliberation and police checks, it was found there was only one applicant with a so far untainted record.
We are now proud to announce the judge representative from Canada to the Islander's Beach Championship will be Sandy McDougal.

Most Dead: we came in 99th with 236.24 billion dead

2014:

Most Survivors with no infected: 1oth with 1.01 trillion survivors
As pointed out by ParrrrTay, we will not make the most infected list:

Dead: 3,731 this year - last year 236.24 billion

Borders were closed earlier this year.
Regretfully a number of resident nations that were building Zombie Empires had to be ejected. Canada looks forward to welcoming the prodigal children back home now this is all over!

Postcards from Canada
Canada has lost a dear friend and citizen, Ess.
Her nation, The Funhouse of Esselldee can still be visited.
Her sense of fun and the affection she shared with each one of us according to our needs (she would tell you off if you needed it too, have no doubt!) brought such joy to our forum. Below is her signature, one she put together with disposablepuppetland. I think it tells her story well.
That happy twirling pink hippie chick serves also as her avatar by the way!

QUOTE <> UNQUOTE: Directly from Canada, the non-crappy Region!
Stormaen:
Goodbye The Funhouse of Esselldee, good friend, loving mother of NS Canada.

Many of you know of this devastating news. For those that don't, I'm sorry – heartbroken – to share.

The player behind Esselldee, one of the most wonderful people I – and many – have ever known, very sadly passed away on 27 December 2014. This is a deep loss for our community and one we will feel for a long time to come.

For as long as I have played this game, I have known "Ess". She was warm and welcoming beyond compare. A woman of unlimited compassion, kindness and with an unrelenting wit and a delightfully dark sense of humour. She was proud yet humble; noble yet grounded; half the world away yet always close, ready to be the shoulder to cry on, the friend to laugh with. Ess was a woman of profound conviction, unafraid – in life or in NS – to carve out new ideas and journey along them. Now she has embarked on a new journey, but one with tales and tracks she can not share with us. Not yet, at least.

Now, as is often said of legends, "she belongs to the ages", the newest and brightest constellation in our NS Canadian sky.

Ess, our Ess, you will be truly, deeply and sadly missed now and always. You beautiful woman.

Fin:
You may talk of dark and tears
When you're butts are safe out there
But when it comes to laughter
You will do you'll best with smiles
And you'll drain every happy face that's got it.
Now in an Island clime,
Where I use to speak my mind
A-messinging the great friend I once had
Of all the Canuacks crew
The finest one I knew
Was our shinin' lovin' Esselldee
She was Ess, Ess, Ess!
You awesome, rad of a Great Wall Esselldee
"Hello, I need a hug over here"
"Hugs get it! Like water beer."
You super fantastic doll, Esselldee

The lovin' she wore
Was everything she showed
Rather then leavin' us, her depressed friends bare
For a piece of lovin' care
And her grand heart that she shared
Was all the field-equipment she could give
When her sweatin' pals did miss
In a rainin' fog through day
Where the solemn loneliness made you wall-crawl
We shouted "Hurry by"!
Till our throats were bricky-dry
Then we pouted because she couldn't serve us all.
It was "Ess,Ess,Ess"!
You silly, where the devil have you been?
You put some kisses on us
Or I'll brood even more this second
If you don't fill up my heart-hole Esselldee

She would water and plant us
Till we thought we were special
And she didn't seem to know the use of fear
If we charged or broke or hurt
You could bet your bloomin' girt
She'd be within our lives, shes a dear
With her lovin' on her sleeve
She would tell us we were off
She would tell us what we gone did wrong
And hold our hands that shake
That everything will be okay
As we fire excuses, lies and slander
It was "Ess, Ess, Ess"!
With the bullets of life lickin' at our ass
When cartridges ran out
You could hear her friends a-shout
"Hi! Another whiskey and Esselldee"

I can't forget the night
When I dropped behind my fight
With a black-hole where my red heart should have been
I was chokin' mad with thirst
And the lass that spied me first
Was our good old grinnin', twirlin' Esselldee
She lifted up my head
And plugged me where I bled
And she gave me a-talking that I did needed
It was painful and it stunk
But of all the words I've drunk
I'm greatfullest to the one from Esselldee
It was "Ess,Ess,Ess"!
Heres a loser with a bullet through his chest
He's kickin' up the ground
And turnin' all around
For God's sake, get your kindness, Esselldee!

She carried me away
To where I dutifully lay
And a bullet come and drilled our Shiniest clean
She put myself at ease
And just before Death's dieses
"I hope I helped your soul" Say Esselldee
So I'll meet her later on
At the place where she has gone--
Where its always double hard and no retreat
She'll be squattin on the coals
An Angel helpin' poor damned souls
And I'll get a hand in hell from Esselldee
Yes, Ess,Ess,Ess!
You super lovin, kind hearted Esselldee.
Though I annoyed you and harmed you
By the livin God that made you .
You're a better friend than I am, my love Ess

The game has inspired Almonaster's creation for the current regional flag for Canada:

We already have one for JT, whom we still miss.....are forums are less without these two.
We are wondering about including days each year that mark their memory, a time for us to celebrate what was important about these two friends.

There has been a revival of the RV Road Trip around NS Canada role play.

Carbanousa's nation CTE'd. Carbanousa is a long standing Canadian who has held office over the years, and done a great deal for Canada. We wish Carb well, wherever he may be.

Writing sadly shows up less often in Canada, it is a shame because we have so many excellent writers.
Here is a piece that presented this month, written and introduced below by Almonaster:

Written as a introduction for a stone wight (troll) character...

Let me tell you of my people.

We were of the first kindred. The Undines, Salamanders and Zephyrs we have known since the beginning, but we are the oldest of that generation. Our history is a long and troubled one, as with most families. In particular, the Undines have often sought to lay us low, while accusing us of barring their way. Yet from that struggle have come many wonders, and at heart we know we are kin.

Before the great beasts, and the lesser beasts; the soaring drakes, and the mighty Forestals; the singing Elves, and the burrowing Dwarves; the chatter and the urgency of Men, we shaped the land, we loved the land and we love it still. And though we are a people in decline, yet will we outlive you all, for we are of the rock, and the rock endures.

The world was not made for you, nor for us. It is a place of wonders, a never-ending symphony of growth and change. You Men seek to tame it: to chain and to conquer. That will be your downfall, and you will drag many others with you. Some may choose to fight you, and that is their right. We will not take sides, we will not join in this madness. We will wait, and your walls will fall. Rocks do not fight. We are of the rock, and the rock endures.

And, we have a new flag for Canada to celebrate spring:
canada__340143.png

And a very mini debate about the butterfly to go with it.

We are not used to Canada sans Almonaster,
so Fin resorted to verse to express how much he (we) all missed him
Fin:
An Al and Fin Song

Fin: Gosh it disturbs me to see you, Al
Looking so down in the dumps
Every guy here'd love to be you, Al
Even when taking your lumps
There's no man in town as admired as you
You're everyone's favorite guy
Everyone's awed and inspired by you
And it's not very hard to see why!

No one's slick as Al
No one's quick as Al
No one's neck's as incredibly thick as Al's
For there's no man in town half as manly!
Perfect, a pure paragon!
You can ask any Tom, Dick or Stanley
And they'll tell you whose team they prefer to be on!

Canada Chorus: No one's been like Al
A king pin like Al
Fin: No one's got a swell cleft in his chin like Al
Al: As a specimen, yes, I'm intimidating!
Canada Chorus: My what a guy, that AL!
Give five "hurrahs!" Give twelve "hip-hips!"
Fin: Al is the best and the rest is all drips!

Canada Chorus: No one fights like Al
Douses lights like Al
In a wrestling match nobody bites like Al!
Lady Canucks: For there's no one as burly and brawny
Al: As you see, I've got biceps to spare
Fin: Not a bit of him's scraggly or scrawny.
Al: That's right!
And every last inch of me's covered with hair!

Canada Chorus: No one hits like Al
Matches wits like Al
Fin: In a spitting match nobody spits like Al
Al: I'm especially good at expectorating! Ptoooie!
Canada Chorus: Ten points for Al!

Al: When I was a lad I ate four dozen eggs
Ev'ry morning to help me get large
And now that I'm grown I eat five dozen eggs
So I'm roughly the size of a barge!

Canada Chorus: No one shoots like Gaston
Makes those beauts like Al
Fin: Then goes tromping around
Wearing boots like Al!
Al: I use antlers in all of my decorating!

Canada Chorus: My what a guy!
Almonaster!

Not SInging:
Al:Fin this never happened :/
Fin: It did not Al ol'buddy :)

AGHAST!
I figured my meaning was pretty blatant but apparently it was not.

I was the night one scan and spoke with Almonaster via PM. I mentioned my suspicions of Barry and suggested making him the night 2 scan. Al seemed to agree, though I have no way of knowing if he was going to actually do that.

You can lynch me if you want, but you'd be four villagers down with four remaining and two kills away from a wolf victory. The village really can't afford to lose another villager at this point.
